ubotu | Sorry, I don't know anything about pci=routeirq - try searching on http://bots.ubuntulinux.nl/factoids.cgi | 07:57 |
ruks | eh? | 07:58 |
test3r | ha. well, i think that might b how i get this older-than-dirt 3COM wifi card going. | 07:58 |
test3r | anyone ever pass that option to kernel yet? | 07:58 |
test3r | do we still NEED to? anyone know? | 07:58 |
test3r | see - | 07:59 |
predaeus_ | ruks, paste the error to a pastebin and the link here | 07:59 |
test3r | dmesg tells m that my PCI 3:00.0 is being ghosted by my 2:00:00 or something | 07:59 |
test3r | maybe it will set it str8 i guess ill give it a shot | 08:00 |
ruks | whats a pastebin? | 08:00 |
predaeus_ | !paste | 08:01 |
ubotu | pastebin is a service to post large texts so you don't flood the channel. The Ubuntu pastebin is at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org (make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the #ubuntu channel topic) | 08:01 |
test3r | yeah we dont even have to use a 3rd party site anymore for our pastes | 08:03 |
ruks | http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/26705/ | 08:03 |
test3r | woot! | 08:03 |
ruks | i think i did it right? | 08:03 |
ruks | can u see ut? | 08:05 |
ruks | it* | 08:05 |
predaeus_ | ruks, hm it says "operation not permitted". Did you try running azureus with sudo just to see if it works? You should not run azureus with sudo rights else. | 08:05 |
test3r | =D | 08:05 |
test3r | either that or set the config to 777 | 08:05 |
test3r | or somethign similar that WILL work | 08:05 |
ruks | ok i used sudo and it opened with the config wizard | 08:06 |
ruks | thats odd | 08:06 |
ruks | but its up | 08:06 |
ruks | am i going to have to do this everytime? | 08:06 |
test3r | hey now dmesg reports it is routing all IRQ for all PCI device - the card still lights on but im not connecting to my wifi =( | 08:07 |
predaeus_ | ruks, you should not run azureus with sudo rights. Try to figure out what is wrong then run it without sudo rights. | 08:07 |
test3r | wow i typed that to air. | 08:07 |
test3r | ruks > either use sudo or CHMOD | 08:07 |
predaeus_ | ruks, did you install azureus from the repositories? | 08:07 |
ruks | ok its up,but my torrents are gone....and the error said something about java but i have the latest version | 08:08 |
ruks | i used synaptics | 08:08 |
predaeus_ | hm weird | 08:08 |
ruks | yea | 08:08 |
ruks | should i uninstall and reinstall? | 08:08 |
test3r | wait u shouldt have to use torrent as root | 08:08 |
test3r | do Not use torrent as root | 08:08 |
test3r | i also hope you have PG setup properly and is in CRON | 08:09 |

predaeus_ | PG? | 08:09 |
test3r | peer guardian | 08:09 |
test3r | have it fully up and getting Auto-Updates b4 u use torrent. | 08:09 |
test3r | (you enable the automatic part using CRON) | 08:10 |
ruks | i dont know what that is,im kinda new to linux and all this | 08:10 |
test3r | it is not a linux thing peer guardian is what it is | 08:10 |
test3r | however to set it up on linux u will have to teach yourself a little linux | 08:10 |
test3r | naturally | 08:10 |
ruks | i know some | 08:11 |
test3r | then ur part way there! You can do it. | 08:11 |
ruks | ok i will try | 08:11 |
ruks | thanks for the help | 08:11 |
test3r | np =) stay safe with that tool, now. | 08:11 |
ruks | lol | 08:11 |
test3r | just google "peer guardian" youll see | 08:12 |
predaeus_ | ruks, still this will not fix your java or whatever problem | 08:12 |
test3r | no is no fix for JAVA but do not run torrent as root | 08:12 |
test3r | that is insane | 08:12 |
test3r | the one that comes with Xubuntu worked Fine for torrents for me | 08:13 |
test3r | and does no req a root password everytime it launches | 08:13 |
test3r | which means it is properly configd | 08:13 |
ruks | azureus didnt either until today | 08:13 |
ruks | and i didnt do anything to the system to change anything | 08:13 |
ruks | so maybe i should uninstall azureus and just use bittornado as default | 08:14 |
test3r | im not sure but when i think of peer-2-peer torrent thing having priv to write Anything to disk it makes me edgy | 08:14 |
test3r | is it possible to force a torrent on a client siting running in root mode? | 08:15 |
test3r | like - i could force a torrent to u that , you running as root, could overwrite sys files | 08:15 |
test3r | or worse | 08:16 |

test3r | OK. lets switch one of those files. i know where that ady sits. | 09:21 |

case__ | archangelpetro, if you look closely, inside the /usr/include/gtk-2.0/ there is a gtk/ directory, so your gtk/gtk.h will always works since it's pkg-config job to include the right folder (i.e. /usr/include/gtk-2.0 ) | 03:47 |
asmith42a | I thought Update Manager was supposed to automatically install Important Security Updates, or at least alert me. Am I misunderstanding? | 03:48 |
kalikiana_ | asmith42a, You can configure it in synaptic. | 03:48 |

asmith42a | kalikiana_: I thought so too. It is set to "Smart Upgrade". | 03:49 |
asmith42a | Which should it be? | 03:50 |
kalikiana_ | asmith42a, Hm... I'm not sure what 'Smart Upgrade' is. You can just tell it to download and install automatically, can't you? | 03:50 |

swhalen | asmith42a: No, it asks for the port and USB isn't listed | 03:51 |

asmith42a | case__: Oh, that could be, but still, wouldn't the package manager to it? | 03:52 |
asmith42a | er, do it | 03:52 |

case__ | kalikiana_, yes right, i was talking about the gnome applet that warns you. | 03:53 |

asmith42a | Or at least attempts to. | 03:54 |

I copied over the alternate cdrom iso to the stick, renamed isolinux folder and .bin and .cfg to syslinux. Booted up, started the install. I get to the point where it tries to detect cdrom, cant. I go to a shell and try to mount the usb as cdrom, but I am stuck at this step | 09:39 |
_peerless | If I check the syslog when plugging in the drive, it puts it on sdb, but it also says unknown partition table, and I dont think it ever mounts to sdb1 so that could be why I cant mount it to the /cdrom | 09:39 |
