Cris987hi all08:33
Cris987i have a bug here with kontact08:33
Cris987when i run it, th icon flashes a few times, an empty system tray icon appears, and then nothing happens08:34
DaSkreechCris987: Can you run it from the command line to see if you get any errors?08:36
Cris987sure08:36
Cris987http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/27306/plain/08:36
ScottKThe first two X errors are normal and expected in a default Kubuntu config.08:37
Cris987what about the last 3 lines?08:38
ArbyCris987: is this feisty or Gutsy?08:38
Cris987dapper...08:38
Arbyoh OK08:38
ArbyI can reproduce the 'call to deprecated action' messages on gutsy08:39
Arbybut kontact does open in my case08:39
Cris987hmm =\08:40
Cris987i thought about uninstalling it completely and then reinstalling it08:40
ArbyCris987: if you click on the systray icon does it do anything?08:40
Cris987nope08:40
Arbyhmm08:40
alleeCris987: which KDE version on dapper.  I've don't remember kontact startup problems?08:41
allees/?/!/08:41
Cris9873.5.208:42
ScottKCris987: I ran dapper with KDE 3.5.2 for some time without problems (I have dapper with kde 3.5.5 now).08:44
alleeCris987: uhm, I've never used 3.5.2 it AFAIR :)08:44
Cris987kontact worked fine b408:44
Cris987it just started crashing like this last night08:44
ScottKallee: Dapper was originally released with 3.5.1, so if you ran it through all the iterations, you probably ran 3.5.2 at some point.08:44
ScottKCris987: Did you install anything new?08:45
DaSkreechDid you install anything?08:45
Cris987nope08:45
Cris987the only thing i've been doing differently for the past few days08:45
Cris987i08:45
Cris987is that i've been working with multiple desktops08:45
Cris987so i mite have tried running kontact more than once08:45
ScottKCris987: My magic remote diagnostics predict it's corrupted index files in kmail.08:45
ScottKRunning kontact more than once will cause that.08:46
DaSkreechit's magik :)08:46
Cris987but kmail runs fine on its own08:46
=== ScottK will have a solution in a moment.
=== Cris987 trusts ScottK magic
ScottKCris987: Make sure kmail/kontact is not running.08:48
ScottKGo to ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail and remove (copy elsehwere just in case) all of the files that have index in the name.08:48
ScottKStart kontact and see what happens (it should rengenerate the index files).08:48
Cris987same thing happens =\08:50
ScottKOK. It's been a very long time since I had this problem.08:51
DaSkreechUpdate to gutsy and it will work fine :)08:52
=== DaSkreech ducks
ScottKI'd suggest (just to be sure) creating a new test user.  Log in as that user, and see what happens.  If the problem happens with a fresh user, then it's not a config corruption problem.08:52
Cris987okay, brb08:53

comosicusfor what is this channel?09:00
comosicusi'm off topic09:01
comosicus?09:01
ScottKCris987: That would tend to mean it's a config issue of some kind.09:01
ScottKcomosicus: This is a development channel.  Help is in #kubuntu09:01
comosicusohhhhhhhhhhh09:01
Cris987anyway i can reset all the config files then?09:01
ScottKCris987: I'm not sure what.  If you need more help figuring it out, someone in #kubuntu might be better suited.09:01
comosicusyep.........whatever09:02
ScottKCris987: All is pretty broad.09:02
Cris987hmm... okay09:02
=== ScottK is reluctant to say yes to that.
Cris987thanks anyways09:02
Cris987i'll try asking #kubuntu then09:02
