[06:34] in edubuntu? [06:35] what is your issue? [06:35] I have 2 NIC's eth0 goes from the router (static ip) and eth1 is supposed to go to the thin clients [06:35] am I supposed to make eth1 static or dhcp? [06:37] I have really been struggling to get my edubuntu server going [06:38] static [06:38] set it to the .1 address of the range your dhcp addy is serving out [06:38] Athanasius: what version of Edubuntu [06:38] feisty [06:39] when I installed it, it set up the 2 nics automatically [06:39] so if the dhcpd.config file says 192.168.0.1? [06:39] it didn't do it for me [06:41] eth0 is set static for 192.168.0.101 [06:41] I think they need to be on different networks, right? [06:41] yes, they do [06:41] otherwise the routing tables will be seriously messed up [06:43] this is the standard config that edubuntu has: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/28036/ [06:44] my router is set for 192.168.0.1 but that is the same as edubuntu's default dhcp for the clients [06:45] do I need to change it to 192.168.1.1? [06:46] the two nics need to be on different networks is the bottom line [06:46] so you could change the dhcp for the clients [06:46] or change the network for eth0 [06:48] ok, so if I am going to change the ip for the client dhcp to .1.0, what am I to set as the default gateway? [06:48] I mean the gateway address for eth1? [06:50] I think the gateway would the the Edubuntu server [06:50] but I'm not positive [06:50] for instance, the subnet would be changed to 192.168.1.0 instead of 0.0 [06:52] so the server would be 192.168.1.1 [06:53] I will try it, it might kill my internet connection though, it has done it before... [06:53] well, wait [06:53] ok [06:53] eth0 should hook you to the internet [06:53] eth1 will be 192.168.1.1 [06:54] yes, it does, you are right [06:54] it won't restart the dhcp server [06:55] Athanasius: did you go through the LTSP server setup when you installed Edubuntu? [06:55] yes [06:56] is should have asked you for which nic you wanted to use for your main one then set up the 2nd for the dhcp/clients [06:56] yes it did, I used eth0 for internet and eth1 for the clients [06:57] under "option routers 192.168.1.1" do I need to make that the ip for the router (192.168.0.1)? [06:59] I guess I would just substitute 192.168.0 with 192.168.1 everywhere === jsgotangco [n=jsg123@ubuntu/member/jsgotangco] has joined #edubuntu [06:59] I am doing that now [07:00] I think I have to restart === jbrefort [n=jean@pot44-1-88-172-65-1.fbx.proxad.net] has joined #edubuntu === JohanSalim [i=G3b0ys@ip84-223.cbn.net.id] has joined #edubuntu === t94xr_ [n=gfd@60-234-134-174.bitstream.orcon.net.nz] has joined #edubuntu === ubuntulog [i=ubuntulo@trider-g7.fabbione.net] has joined #edubuntu === Topic for #edubuntu: Order: http://shipit.edubuntu.org || Edubuntu - the education version of Ubuntu || http://www.edubuntu.org | Wiki: http://wiki.edubuntu.org/EdubuntuWiki | MEETING: every Wednesday see http://wiki.edubuntu.org/EdubuntuMeetingAgenda | feisty (7.04) is released, see http://www.edubuntu.org/Download | Upgraders see: https://wiki.edubuntu.org/EdubuntuLTSPUpgradeNotes | Use https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EdubuntuFAQ as starting point for questions === Topic (#edubuntu): set by ogra at Thu Jun 28 18:33:29 2007 === #edubuntu [freenode-info] if you need to send private messages, please register: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#privmsg === pauljw [n=paul@pool176.dial1-clec.newalb.win.net] has joined #edubuntu === pauljw [n=paul@pool141.dial1-clec.newalb.win.net] has joined #edubuntu === ogra [n=ogra@ubuntu/member/ogra] has joined #edubuntu
