chadeldridgeDoes anyone know what version of Gnome is included in the next version of Ubuntu ?03:03
Pumpernickel2.20, the next stable release.03:05
PumpernickelThe Ubuntu and Gnome 6-month release cycles aren't so closely matched by coincidence.03:06
chadeldridgeI wasnt sure if gnome was on the same release cycle as ubuntu ... so 2.20 will be in the 7.10 release ... thanks03:06
chadeldridgebasically i need the new gnome to fix a bunch of issues .. and the fixes are supposedly in 2.20 ... so i will just have to wait around i suppose :-D03:07

lamalexberyl works fine05:05
pimp31415as you can see my hardware is kinda crappy lol but i get more wiggles with beryl than the desktop effects themselves05:05
RAOFDanaG: Guess what?  dpkg triggers are exactly what you are after.  A google should get you the thread on the debian ML discussing it.05:05
lamalexbut i'm trying to figure out desktop-effects as that's what most new users are going to try, so I want to get them working so I can help fglrx/xgl users05:05
pimp31415ok turned those on05:06
pimp31415btw if you use alltray i recommend kdocker - does the same thing and works while beryl is running05:06
pimp31415ok yeah differences:05:07
pimp314151. beryl when you have a window maximized you can drag the top part as far as you want and let go and it snaps back, whereas desktop effects acts like the normal desktop where the window detatches and reattaches only if you drag it back up05:07

pimp314152. double click titlebar maximize/unmaximize in desktop effects // rolls up window in beryl05:08

haysto update to gutsy, I changed my apt.sources to say s/gutsy/fiesty then ran apt-get dist-upgrade.  Then this morning I ran the ubuntu package manager and it installed a few more updates.  Anything else I need to do?02:02
billy_howdy.  how can I rescue my Gutsy install, which died at about 6% packages installed.  I've been able to install ubuntu-standard and ubuntu-desktop.02:03
sn0billy_ did you dist-upgrade? or is it from the tribe 2 image02:06
sn0hays you should be good to go :)02:06
hayssweet.02:06
sn0billy_ if you dist-upgraded then maybe boot from the livecd , mount your root / partition then chroot into it, and try dist-upgrading aggain02:07
billy_sn0: tribe 2 yes.  a few packages to dist-upgrade for, but not many.  i don't have restricted-drivers-manager, for instance.  and I had to create a user manually, which means root account isn't "locked" (or whatever).  So my install is a bit off.  :|02:07
sn0billy_ hmm sounds strange, maybe grab the latest daily image and try that02:08
sn0i used the one from yesterday and it seemed to work ok so far02:08
sn0http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/02:08
billy_sn0: well, it's a buffer under-run or something, I think.02:08
billy_keep getting them.02:09
sn0maybe double check the md5sums02:09
sn0to verify the cd image is intact02:09
sn0though buffer under run may be the media/cd itself02:09
billy_that's what I'm thinking. this thing's been giving me troubles.02:09
sn0maybe try a usb boot if you have a pen drive, or if you have a spare cdrom drive to rule that out02:10
billy_sn0: so, you're advice is to try the install again, instead of attempting to fix this one?  I have a second CD drive, which I think I can boot from.  I'll give that a shot.02:10
sn0billy_ i would possibly try both :)02:11

haysI think I am noticing a pattern with linux distros.  They start out very unconservative, with very fresh and new packages in every release, and slowly they become more conservative and have things up to a year behind.  I hope Ubuntu stays fresh.03:09
lamalexwhat about debian? testing always has new packages03:09
lamalexand stable only really gets old because of how long it's stable03:10
haysI've not used them in a while, but last I tried testing, it was tolerable, but not as shiny new as, say, Ubuntu.03:10
lamalexwell Ubuntu is /based/ on Debian testing03:11
lamalexor is it unstable03:11

h3sp4wnkaba: it has mac8021105:10
kabaI have Atheros AR5007EG which so far only works with Ndiswrapper in sidux05:10
h3sp4wnIt will not have those - you need madwifi trunk05:11
h3sp4wnIs it the pre n one right or pci-e ?05:11
kabah3sp4wn: yeah, but with 7.04 Madwifi didnt support this hardware05:11
h3sp4wnkaba: It needs the new hal (that was only added after madwifi 0.9.3)05:12
sn0kaba ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 is the same version in debian unstable at the moment as it is in gutsy gibbon05:12

sn0kaba im not sure, i use ethernet :)05:15
h3sp4wnath_hal: 0.9.30.13 (that is the version you need) - kaba: Did kelmo say it could only possibly work with ndiswrapper ? (Might still be true if he said that)05:16

ConstyI'm having a problem with NetworkManager.  It seems it doesn't show multiple wireless networks with the same ESSID.  It only attempts to join the first one that is detected and fails to even show the other one even though iwlist scanning displays it.09:51
