gerroknow how to completely erase a hard drive including grub and mbr etc?09:09
gerroI got some distro goob on my pc that need wiping :(09:09
cellofellowgerro: try dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/hda09:10
vidd_laptopif you are doing a clean install.....gparted should do it all for you09:10
cellofellowyou may have to set some sort of repeat so it wipes the whole disk.09:10
gerrothanks cellofellow09:10
gerrowhat you mean by that?09:10
cellofellowwell, /dev/null is only so big. actually, use /dev/zero09:11
cellofellowyou can set something in dd that makes /dev/zero look bigger.09:11
gerroso dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda09:11
cellofellowor smaller.09:11
cellofellowyeah, try it from livecd and see what it does.09:11
gerrookay thanks09:11
cellofellowit will at least erase the partition table and part of the MBR.09:12
gerrothx a lot, I was confused kept getting grub error 1709:13
vidd_laptopcellofellow, did you look at that link to gentoo? and did it help you any?09:14
cellofellowI'm still working on it, but it looks like it'll work09:14
cellofellowwhat's the opposite of modprobe? I need to start over and remove a module.09:14

Chadariusyeah for xubuntu.org09:22
anderodriguexi can't mount an audio cd :S09:22
anderodriguexcan you help me?09:22
TheSheepChadarius: great09:22
gerroChadarius: is drupal a xubuntu version?09:22
gerroanderodriguex: it should appear on your desktop then you just click it, are you having trouble with a specific application?09:23
Chadariusgerro: not sure what you mean exactly... is there a drupal package? Yeah there is one in the repos09:23
TheSheepChadarius: you can get the thing I checked out from the ubuntu repos and recolored at http://atos.wmid.amu.edu.pl/~sheep/website2007.tar.gz09:23
ChadariusTheSheep: Yep... Jim sent me an email with all the details09:23
ubotuSorry, I don't know anything about drupal - try searching on http://bots.ubuntulinux.nl/factoids.cgi09:23
TheSheepanderodriguex: you can't mount an audio cd, it doesn't have any filesystem on it09:23
ChadariusTheSheep: I just wanted to ping you before I ssh'd in or anthing to let you know I was going to start messing around tonight09:24
gerroohhh its an audio cd...09:24
anderodriguexTheSheep: so, i can't play it09:24
TheSheepChadarius: ah, gread, the host is vidd's though :)09:24
gerroanderodriguex: use a media player to play it09:24
TheSheepanderodriguex: you can play it with an audio player09:24
anderodriguexgerro: no, don't plays because an mounting error09:24
TheSheepanderodriguex: they have a separate option to play a cd, you don't mount it for playing09:24
ChadariusTheSheep: OK... are you also going to work on it, or are you just supplying the graphics?09:24
anderodriguexok, so how can i reproduce an audio cd?09:25
gerroChadarius: it has graphics too?09:25
Chadariusanderodriguex: cdrecord would work09:25
gerroI would just use k3b09:25
TheSheepChadarius: this is something I started doing for feisty, but never had time to finish -- I'm even shorter on time now, but I will gladly answer any questions and help with anything hard09:25
cellofellowvidd_laptop: those gentoo instructions aren't working.09:26
anderodriguexChadarius: sudo apt-get install cdrecord?09:26
gerroanderodriguex: or open synaptic and search for it :)09:26
Chadariusanderodriguex: if it isn't already there yeah09:26
TheSheepanderodriguex: k3b is for recording cds09:26
Chadariusanderodriguex: I've never had to install cdrecord directly09:26
TheSheepanderodriguex: same with cdrecord09:27
Chadariuscrap its not cdrecord09:27
TheSheepanderodriguex: I use audacious for playing cds, but you can use mostly anything09:27
TheSheepanderodriguex: xmms, bmp and audacious look like winamp and can even use its skins09:28
cellofellowaudacious > bmp > xmms09:28
TheSheepcellofellow: if you're comparing age...09:29
cellofellowBut I like Audacious the best.09:29
TheSheepcellofellow: only reverse the signs09:29
Chadariusanderodriguex: Its cdparanoia that is the command line ripper09:30
TheSheepChadarius: but he only wants to *play* it :)09:30
cellofellowuse abcde to rip and encode and tag in one command.09:30
Chadariusoh well heck why play it when you can rip it :)09:30

Chadariusvidd_laptop: TheSheep: I can start up a project for it. OK... as long as its just me working on it I'll hold off. If we get more interest than I setup up09:38
