hansin321Where does one make a package request/change for Gutsy?  I see Gutsy still uses 'centericq', but I think the good work going forward will be with the fork 'centerim'.  At least that is my interpretation.06:13
kylemrjek, please keep me posted on the touchscreen.06:13
kylemi know someone who'd be interested in the progress with that.06:14
rjekIs centerim not packaged in addition to centericq?06:14
rjekkylem: I'm at a bit of a dead end.  I know it's a WACOM, but that's it.  There seems to be several different ways that WACOM touchscreens connect.06:14
rjekSome are serial, some are serial over USB, and others are freaky thing over USB.06:14
rjekI can't get any life out of it at all06:15

hansin321BTW, I made a sort of negative comment on the boot splash screen for Ubuntu a little while back.  On closer look, the current version looks pretty sharp.  I suppose I was thinking back to the older version.  Anyway, it looks pretty good, and current boot time in Gutsy seems pretty fast.06:16
hansin321Is Gutsy moving more and more stuff into Upstart (and hence the faster boot times)?06:16

hwilderjek, aside from flash what would you recommend for a mobile application that cannot use a harddrive?06:57
eagles0513875what u trying to do thats mobile06:57
hwildethe flashcard drives a mobile robot.  harddrives with moving parts don't last very long with all the vibration and movement06:57
hwildewe have seen some of the silicon systems compact flashcards last over 8 months and counting06:57
eagles0513875ur actually entering solid state06:57
eagles0513875have u tried ubuntu server which is just a cli06:57

=== hwilde looks at rjek then scrolls up
hwildethe harddrives die.  the robot moves around06:57
eagles0513875lol06:57
rjekI'd use flash if you really couldn't, just not using a hard drive file system.  Look at something like JFFS2 or YAFS.06:57
hwildewhat is wrong with ext3 on a flashcard ?06:57
eagles0513875hwilde: try ubuntu server its just a cli and its more light weight06:57
rjekThe journal will burn a hole in the flash.06:57
rjekflash has comparitively few rewrite cycles compared to a hard disc.06:58
eagles0513875lol and u know u can by 4gb and 8gb cf06:58
rjek(measured in the thousands rather than millions)06:58
hwildeubuntu server does not include all of the necessary drivers and libraries.06:58
rjekhwilde: Ubuntu Server is just Ubuntu without ubuntu-desktop installed.  Identical packages are available.06:58
rjekThe server install just lets you have finer control over what's installed by default.06:58
hwildewell the point is I have what I want installed, so why can't I just upgrade that only without all the bloat06:59
hwildeI have it down to 1.5G with no problems06:59
hwildebut when I do the dist-upgrade it bloats to 2.7G06:59
hwildethen I can pare it down to 1.5G again06:59
hwildebut why does it install so much unnecessary additional packages06:59
nysosymi can take the master volume to zero, but when i switch pcm to max, i hear sound O.o?06:59
rjek1.5GB still quite a lot if you're using it for something embedded.06:59
rjekRemember, when upgrading it needs to download all the packages, so you need space for the.07:00
rjekhwilde: You're trying to install a modern desktop OS into the space PCs had 10 years ago.07:00
rjekhwilde: Use the server install, and only install what you need.07:00
