[03:16] yes i realise this now.. but what im _hoping_ is that gutsy will have a good go of being able to do the effects with compiz fusion [03:16] Hmm, one issue I one ran into: [03:16] no matter if you have nvidia or ati.. and in the case of ati, if you're using fglrx or radeon [03:17] A system would stall at the BIOS drive-detect screen for roughly 30 seconds, and once I tried booting the livecd, it died with some unexpected status on one IDE port. [03:17] It turned out that the single drive was set to Master With Slave, not Master (Single Drive). [03:17] If it's an IDE drive, that may be good to check; otherwise, it won't apply, of course. [03:18] that's more appropriately a bios issue. [03:18] it's very difficult if not highly improbable to work around every one of those. [03:18] sure, you could munge it into libata, but that would be insane. [03:20] is anyone using compiz with fglrx and xgl? is the xgl obsoleted? i have had trouble finding this out .. esp before i try gutsy [03:20] it'd be REALLY nice if ati added the composite extension to their driver.. they have been paying lip service to this for ages :/ === wfarr_ [n=wfarr@adsl-224-111-233.asm.bellsouth.net] has joined #ubuntu+1 === kjm [n=kjmacken@CPE00134648f6ff-CM00159a6420e4.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has joined #ubuntu+1 === hggdh [n=hggdh@pool-71-170-39-244.dllstx.fios.verizon.net] has left #ubuntu+1 [] === matysek [n=matysek@96.Red-88-14-185.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has joined #ubuntu+1 === matysek [n=matysek@96.Red-88-14-185.dynamicIP.rima-tde.net] has joined #ubuntu+1 === Agrajag` [n=Agrajag@c-67-163-214-103.hsd1.pa.comcast.net] has joined #Ubuntu+1 === kjm [n=kjmacken@CPE00134648f6ff-CM00159a6420e4.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has left #ubuntu+1 [] [03:31] Oh yeah, the one thing that might possibly make sense: If you find a master and stall on finding a slave, with the same sort of return value, print a message like "Can't find slave; Perhaps check jumper settings?". [08:07] wow, I want a magic want that can do that :p [08:07] ebay? ;) [08:07] yes I know it is hard for me to expian thing [08:07] I will try [08:07] ok [08:08] stdin: good luck :P [08:09] I really don't know what I did to my I reconfigered my xorg and now can't get anything to work on my desktop [08:10] like I can't run off compix [08:10] you have nvidia/ati? [08:10] ati [08:11] my friend is going to take mr to get a new card satruday [08:11] do you have the binary driver too? [08:11] nvidia [08:12] no I've not grab it from them [08:12] masterloki: who's "them" ? [08:12] I have the Ati 9200 vid card [08:13] them :) {ati} [08:13] you don't download the driver from ati, you use the packages in ubuntu [08:14] do you mean the figlrx [08:14] yes [08:14] You also don't use the fglrx driver at all, it's crap and you don't need to. [08:14] in my xorg I 'm use the Ati driver [08:15] masterloki: you say it stopped working _after_ you reconfigured your xorg? [08:16] yes [08:17] i hope you made a backup.. [08:17] masterloki: when you do that there is always a backup made in /etc/X11/ , it'll be called something like xorg.conf.20070726213259 (the number has the date and time in it) [08:18] I had dusl going but with the card I have beryl and compix would not work well on my 2nd monitor [08:18] I made the backup it was for duals [08:18] yes you're limited to 2048x2048, it's a hardware limitation [08:19] I see [08:20] so i should reinstall the xorg file back [08:21] yes, restore the backup [08:21] ok [08:23] aslo my friend said than beryl is pretty much broken in gusty [08:24] masterloki: That's because beryl is dead, and Compiz fusion (the beryl plugins ported to compiz) is installed & enabled by default in Gutsy [08:28] dose that mean I don't have to use the beryl manager [08:31] Indeed it does. [08:32] you use compiz now, you'll need to remove beryl first [08:32] Well, no. [08:32] Not actually.
