[12:36] I'm sure somebody is [12:36] somewhere [12:37] hello LaserJock [12:37] lies. We're all dead. [12:37] i've got a problem with edubuntu 7.04 and ltsp 5 [12:38] Comete: ok, what's the problem, I'm not sure I can help but I can take a stab at it [12:38] i use X_MODE_0 = 800x600 by default but the resolution stays too high on the clients, something like 1200x... [12:38] i don't understand why, it worked perfectly with ltsp 4.2 [12:40] the problem is the same with all my clients, they are all different [12:40] not the same graphic card [12:40] hmm [12:40] sbalneav: around? [12:41] i've tested with ati or vesa drivers... same problem... [12:41] even the intel ones [12:42] Comete: I'm really not good with LTSP troubleshooting, have you tried #ltsp ? [12:42] I'm not sure if anybody else in here is paying attention ;-) [12:42] LaserJock: i'm on it but nobody answers [12:43] it's the weekend :/ [12:43] LaserJock: yep [12:43] ah [12:44] X_MODE doesn't work anymore [12:44] Have a look at the edubuntu handbook [12:44] You'll need to lower the X_HORZSYNC ad X_VERTREFRESH I beleive [12:44] Comete: ^^ [12:44] brb, off to cook din din [12:46] LaserJock: am now [12:46] sbalneav: really ? [12:47] sbalneav: ok i'll look at it thanks :) [12:47] moquist: any progress on moodle [12:47] LaserJock: I am working on it today, as a matter of fact. === moquist checks his latest test [12:47] hmm. an apt-get remove --purge moodle hung around after restarting apache [12:48] anyhow, now I'll apt-get install my newest test. [12:48] LaserJock: I just bumped the version from ubuntu1 to ubuntu2 to test. That seems like it was the right way to do it... [12:48] LaserJock: good ot hear from you [12:49] moquist: yeah, you can do that (ubuntu1 to ubuntu2), you could also for test purposes add something on the end [12:49] like ubuntu1~test1 [12:49] LaserJock: it was changing the package name that brought up those errors with removing the license files. before I changed the version to ubuntu2 I tried renaming my package moodle-alt, and right when I did the rename my pbuilder builds started failing with those old errors. when I leave the package named "moodle" and just change the version, it builds fine. [12:54] hmmm [12:54] it must be checking the directory name [12:55] LaserJock: I can upload the source package if you want to take a gander. The installation isn't working yet, though. (Or, it might be working, but I've sufficiently hosed my test system that I need to get a fresh one.) [12:56] hah [12:56] if you want to put it on REVU that'd be fine [12:57] is it considered good netiquitte to put half-baked stuff on there? [12:58] sure [12:59] people do it all the time ;-) === moquist looks up elgamal [01:02] Um, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/REVU tells me I want an Elgamal key, but there aren't any links or other help. I have no idea what to do, and google hasn't been immediately helpful. [01:03] a what? === LaserJock looks [01:03] sbalneav: X_HORZSYNC and X_VERTREFRESH don't let me choose the resolution ? [01:04] moquist: hmm, I've never heard of that [01:05] i'm more and more convinced that ltsp5 is not a good idea... [01:06] LTSP5 has got a lot of advancements I think [01:06] but enough has changed that I think sometimes takes some getting used to [01:07] moquist: I don't think I'd worry about that. If you use gpg or seahorse to create your key I think you'll be fine [01:13] LaserJock: my key is all set. i'm installing dput now. [01:13] but I have to go eat, so I'll get back to this later. [01:14] Comete: No, but if you lower the horizsync and vert refresh, it will pop down into 800x600 [01:16] hmm, I would think raising the refresh rates would do that === LaserJock thinks about it [01:17] Nope, lowering the refresh rates. [01:18] Comete: The other way to do it is to specify a custom xorg.conf file. [01:20] sbalneav: so i should know the vertical and horizontal refresh rate of all the screens ? [01:20] LaserJock: thanks [01:21] Well, by default, xorg queries the screen, and asks it what it's best refresh rate is. [01:21] ltsp has done a jump in the past... [01:21] So unless you've got a REALLY old monitor there, it "just works" by default. [01:22] sbalneav: i don't consider 1200x1024 to be a good resolution for a 15" monitor [01:22] So, you've got an old 15 inch monitor that doesn't report correctly. [01:22] So, xorg just "guesses" a bad resolution. [01:22] no i've got 20 old monitors... [01:23] ok, so like I say: [01:23] adjust X_VERTREFRESH and X_HORZSYNC, or, come up with a default xorg.conf file for those monitors, and use the XF86CONFIG_FILE = /path/to/file to set it. [01:24] Either will work. [01:24] sbalneav: ok, do you know why the X_MODE_ option was removed ? [01:25] We use the debian xorg packages now, and use the preseeding mechanism to configure them.... [01:25] ... [01:26] the debian packages allow you to preseed the xhorizsync and vertrefresh, but DONT allow you to preseed the resolution. [01:27] sbalneav: is there a mean to detect the range for xhorizsync and vertrefresh on a monitor, because i have no manuals for those monitors ? [01:28] You could just EXPERIMENT with some values. [01:28] Google, also, will have answers [01:29] X_VERTREFRESH of 30-65, and X_HORIZSYNC of 45-65 would be good places to start. [01:29] Or, like I say: [01:29] cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/X11/xorg.oldmonitor.conf [01:30] edit, and set the video driver, and X_MODE to 800x600 [01:30] XF86CONFIG_FILE = /etc/X11/xorg.oldmonitor.conf in your lts.conf [01:30] sbalneav: thanks a lot :) === merriam__ [n=merriam@82-133-115-120.dyn.gotadsl.co.uk] has joined #edubuntu === jack_wyt [n=jack@124.64.110.244] has joined #edubuntu === Amaranth [n=travis@ubuntu/member/Amaranth] has joined #edubuntu === crosvera [i=crosvera@193-57-20-190.adsl.terra.cl] has joined #edubuntu [04:01] hi people [04:02] I have a question, the thinclients can use owns cd-readers/writers and usb ports to use pendrives?
