nrayeverhi to everyone03:37
nrayeveri'm having some problems with edubuntu03:37
nrayeverdhcp server is not working and always says "fail"03:38
nrayevercan anyone help me?03:38
nrayeversomebody??03:40
Burgundavianrayever: your dhcp server is not starting?03:42
nrayeverthat's right burgundavia03:42
nrayeverit doesn't start03:42
nrayeverthe server has a fresh edubuntu server install03:43
Burgundaviayou need to make certain you have one of your NICs set to a static address and the dhcp lease information needs to be on the same subnet03:43
nrayeveri just modified the /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf03:44
nrayevermmmmm, ok maybe that's the problem03:44
nrayeveri haven't set a static ip for the nic03:44

nrayeverthanks burgundavia!!04:42
nrayeverit worked!04:42
nrayeveri just need to restart, but the hole server! xD04:42
Burgundaviahmm04:43
nrayevernow i just need to copy what i have in the floppy to a small cf card that i'm using as a boot hd04:43
nrayeveri read somewhere on the web that i can do it, i just need a live cd and make a cat to the hd04:45
nrayeverso burgundavia what do you think?? can it be possible??04:49
Burgundaviayour thin clients cannot network boot?04:50
nrayeverthe problem is that i had disable the mobo's nic and installed a pci 1 gb nic04:55
nrayeverchipset realteck 816904:56
nrayeveris there any way that the bios could boot that nic??04:56
nrayeveri did that because mobo's onboard nic was just 10/100 mb05:01
nrayeverso i prefered to buy some 1gb nic's for this specific use05:02
nrayeverthe network would be less loaded than using 10/100 nic05:03
nrayeverdon't you think?05:03

stgraberogra: I sent a mail to Pete yesterday about the work I'm currently doing on TCM (well on a fork locally but the goal is to merge my work with TCM), you can have a look here if you want : http://www.stgraber.org/tcm1.png11:07
stgraberargh, http://www.stgraber.org/download/tcm1.png11:07
ograsweet11:08
ograare you really running this many clients ?11:08
ograor is that a mockup11:08
stgrabernope, I've done a simulation function giving a similar array as the one provided by the tcm functions11:08
ograah11:09
stgraberit's using screenshots instead of resized VNC to avoid the crash, memory problem, ... we currently have with TCM11:09
stgraberbut I'll need to find a way to generate the screenshots on the thin clients themselves and then push them to the server (so we don't use server CPU to take them)11:10
stgraberVNC is only used when you want to take the control (double-click on the client) or switch to demo mode11:11
stgraberalso an advantage of the iconview is that you can select multiple clients at once and then launch a software or send a message on that selection of client11:11
ogratried xwd ?11:15
=== jinty [n=jinty@vc-196-207-32-232.3g.vodacom.co.za] has joined #edubuntu
stgrabernope, currently using "scrot" but having 10 computers doing screenshots every 5s is taking a lot of CPU on the server (only 1.5Ghz ...)11:17
ograwhy is that ?11:19
ograthe load should be on the client11:19
stgraberyes, it should but I don't have a way to retrieve the screenshots from the client yet11:21
stgraber(nfs seems overkill for that ...)11:21
ograyou could add a TCM user :) and scp11:23
stgraberhmm, I'm not sure having 7 ssh connections every 5s is that better than scrot running every 5s :)11:24
ograwell, why do you need 5 second updates anywa11:26
ogray11:26
ogra20second wuld suffice /me thinks11:26
ograand you need a way to suppress clients .....11:27
ograthats mainly why vnc isnt on by default in TCM atm11:27
ograwhat happens in a netwrok with 200 thin clients (i.e. with  cluster as wever)11:27
ogra*server11:27
=== encompas1 [n=encompas@dsl-hvkgw1-fe6ffa00-119.dhcp.inet.fi] has joined #edubuntu
stgraberwhat do you mean by "suppress clients" ?11:29
ograwell, if oyu have 200 clients you surely dont want to pull them all11:32
ograyou need grouping for them or something like that ....11:33
ograso the porggy only polls n of them at once11:33
ograelse you will make your network die11:33
stgrabermy goal is to have 128x128 screenshot generated on thin clients, then pushed to a dir on the server11:35
ograwell11:35
stgraberand then the GUI simply shows them (if you filter you'll only see the one corresponding to the filter)11:35
ogratry it :)11:36
stgraberthe only load problem would be the upload of the screenshots from the clients to the server (but shouldn't be that BW expensive with a 128x128 png file)11:37
stgraberthen I can refresh 32 icons every 2s with only a cpu load of 1% (ok I'm using a core2duo)11:37
ograright that could work11:38
stgrabersomething that'd also be a good idea to implement for Gutsy+1 is to have some kind of daemon running on the thin clients themselves so we can remotely run commands on them (shutdown, start a VNCviewer on another X server, ...)11:39
ograldm2 should solve that11:39
ograwe can just poll stuff on the server11:40
ograi.e. a socket11:40
ograits a tiny script we need for the client side ...11:40
ograand only some hacks to hal to make i.e. shutdown from the logout dialog availabe11:41
stgraberwould be great11:41
stgraberldm2 is really a big improvment11:41
ograldm2 brings a ton of opportunities11:42
ograhaving the static tunnel opens up a great communication layer11:42
juliuxstgraber, how is your experinces with the core2duo as a ltsp server?11:50
stgraberjuliux: the core2duo is my personal laptop I use for coding, I don't have the ltsp server on it11:52
juliuxstgraber, ah ok11:53
juliuxbecause my core2duo ltsp server was very slow11:57
juliuxthe pentium D was much better11:57

mindjujuanybody here know how to get past "BIOS age (1999) cutoff (2000)," error?  I've tried half a dozen strings when trying to install edubuntu, but can't seem to get anywhere.  the strings that I googled and found were acpi=force | noapic acpi=off.  the second one doesn't throw an error, and it flashes an edubuntu splash for a minute then goes to blinking cursor for at least 10 minutes.  I have updated my BIOS to the latest that lenovo12:10
