superm1laga, you here?04:59
lagayup04:59
lagasuperm1: yes05:00
superm1laga, i think that there is still an issue in the mythweb packages even the -fixes ones05:01
lagagreat :(05:01
superm1because i added the fixes to the mythbuntu builds05:01
superm1and some people on -users said they were getting dpkg hanging05:01
lagawhat kind of issue?05:01
lagaawesome.05:01

laga"uh-oh".05:03
superm1i responded to that thread this morning05:03
superm1asking if frsh install05:03
superm1or upgrade05:03
superm1but the thing is, i didn't encounter this on any of my test runs05:03
superm1either fresh install from a purge05:03
superm1or from an older package05:03
lagai still do. i assumed it was a problem with my merge.05:03

lagayep05:04
superm1well what to do then?05:04
superm1what else about the packaging can be causing it05:04

superm1well in an effort to save time (i've gotta leave in a few min, and won't be back for most the weekend), can you just add it to the postinst after partially configuring05:07
superm1and then try to dpkg --configure -a05:07

=== tgm4883 needs to kill things
superm1tgm4883, i looked around for a setting but didn't find it on a glance05:13
superm1let me look again05:13
lagasuperm1: hum. again, i get "exit 0"05:13
superm1laga, so you fixed it?05:13
superm1:)05:13
lagait's hanging.05:14
lagayeah05:14
lagai fixed it05:14
lagaheh05:14
superm1wait i dont get it, so it exit 0's and hangs05:14
lagaadd "db_stop" to the end of the file05:14

lagait did an exit 0 and hung05:14
lagawith db_stop, it's OK now i guess05:14
superm1well if that's all05:14

superm1tgm4883, you should be able to now05:15
superm1tgm4883, i changed it, i told the channel :)05:15
superm1you like?05:15
chukwhat is the default password for the myth user that gets created in mythbuntu?05:15
superm1chuk, that isn't defined05:16
tgm4883looks awesome05:16
chukmeaning no password?05:16
superm1chuk, meaning you can't login as the mythtv user05:16
superm1its not intended for that05:16
chukah, ok05:16
chukI am having a problem with lirc on the latest mythbuntu05:17
chukI have an ATI USB RF remote05:17
superm1chuk, what sort of problem?05:17
chukand I tried both userspace, and non, and I can't get it to recognize the remote05:17
chuki.e nothing happens when I push any buttons05:17
superm1chuk, if you dpkg-reconfiugre lirc05:17
superm1choose the ATI usb remote option05:17
chukuserspace one?05:19
lagasuperm1: db_stop seems to fix it. at least it shouldn't brek anything :)05:19
chukalso, it seems the server in the sources.list is down05:20
=== pteague_work [n=xx10727@ip72-213-145-156.ok.ok.cox.net] has joined #ubuntu-mythtv
chukany reason it is usign the cs.umn.edu ones over the archive.ubuntu ones?05:21
superm1chuk, those are closer to the build server, so they are used during the build05:23
superm1didn't realize they stuck afterward too :)05:23
chukah05:23
superm1chuk, when you dpkg-reconfigure lirc it asks you for a remote type05:23
superm1it handles the driver05:23
superm1it needs05:23
superm1and such05:23
chukright, which one should I select for the ati usb?  the userspace one or non?05:24
chukI think the non uses the kernel module?05:24
superm1oh non userspace05:24
superm1def05:24
chukoh, interesting05:24
superm1it loads a kernel module yes05:24
superm1laga, where did you put the db_stop?05:24
chukI had read some other stuff saying that userspace was the better to use, because the kernel module didn't recognize a bunch of the keys05:24
superm1chuk, i had bad luck with userspace a year or so ago with my old atiusb remote, but kernel module worked as expected05:25
chukthats good enough for me05:26
superm1you'll see how things work out for you though :)05:26
lagasuperm1: http://www.pastebin.ca/64441105:26
lagasuperm1: in the postinst05:26
superm1interesting05:26
superm1okay i'll commit that to the weekly05:26
superm1and we'll see if that helps05:26
chukI did the dpkg-reconfigure and I still don't get anything05:27
chukany other steps I'm missing?05:27
superm1chuk, "sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc"05:27
chukI had selected the non userspace remote during the install05:27
superm1oh right05:27
chukyes, I did that05:27
superm1okay05:27
superm1so type irw05:27
superm1and try pressing buttons05:27
chuknothing happens05:28
chukirw looks like it just hangs05:28
superm1well you can hit ctrl c05:28
superm1to get out of it05:28
superm1well take a look at /etc/lirc/lircd.conf05:28
superm1and make sure that it looks right05:29
superm1and /etc/lirc/hardware.conf05:29
chukdevice=""05:29
chukmodules="lirc_dev lirc_atiusb"05:30
superm1right looks good05:30
superm1and dmesg05:30
chukdriver=""05:30
superm1make sure that the atiusb module loaded05:30
chukI get "/build/buildd/linux-source-2.6.22-2.6.22/drivers/input/misc/ati_remote.c: Registered USB driver ATI/X10 RF USB Remote Control v. 2.2.1"05:32
chukwhen grepping for ATI05:32
superm1yea looks right05:32
superm1so it loaded05:32
superm1okay so you have a /dev/lirc0 then for the remote i'm assuming?05:33
chukwell, I have a /dev/lirc005:33
lagaati_remote.c is the in-kernel driver, isn't id?05:33
lagas/id/it/05:33
superm1yes05:33
chukbtw, I realize this is outside the scope of mythbuntu, feel free to tell me to look elsewhere if you like05:33
superm1the onyl other thing i can think is that the lircd.conf you have doesn't match the remote05:34
chukit looked ok05:34
chukhad all the usual atiusb nonsense in it05:34
superm1well i've actually gotta be running right now, i've got to move stuff ot another appt and then have a busy day ahead of me05:34
chukwhere do I need the conf files?05:34
lagawhat does the lirc driver "lirc_dev" do?05:34
superm1i'll be able to touch bases again some point probably sunday05:34
chukwasn't one needed under the home directory, etc?05:34
lagais it for the dev/input stuff?05:34
superm1its a dependency for lirc_atiusb05:34
superm1irw tries to capture keys describe in lircd.conf05:35
lagai'd assume that ati_remote.ko shouldn't be loaded05:35
lagabuit that-'s just a guess05:35
superm1oh wait laga your right05:35
superm1i just looked at what you meant by that05:35
chukbecause that takes over the remote?05:35
chukand doesn't allow lirc to use it?05:36
superm1you may need to rmmod ati_remote05:36
superm1and then restart lirc so it loads the right lirc_atiusb05:36
superm1and try then05:36
superm1if that works, then something needs to be blacklisted for ati_remote05:36
chukwhats the proper way to re-start lirc?05:36
chukyeah, I know in feisty, you need to blacklist the ati remote05:36
chukin order to use lirc05:36
superm1so if it works, file a bug on launchpad against lirc, saying it needs to blacklist ati_remote when kernel driver is selected05:36
superm1sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart05:37
chukno go, but thanks for getting me started, I'll mess with it some more05:38
superm1okay, good luck, and oonce you get it figured out (if you do) file a bug, and we can have this fixed automatically for people05:38
chuksure thing05:38
superm1tgm4883, send me a mail if you still can't change blue prints05:38

seabagi've got a really interesting question if anyone's around09:10
DaveMorrisshoot09:11
DaveMorrisI'm guessing its about suspending your PC and tuner cards not working again09:14
seabagok, so i've got an asus motherboard with an integrated sis video card, and a wintv-pvr150mce09:14
seabag:D yes and no09:14
seabagsuperm1 showed me how to insert the "ivtv ivtv2" modules in the acpi-support09:15
seabagi thought that didn't work, because after that, the tuner would wake up and just display a blue screen. however, it does still record shows properly. you just have to restart in order to watch them. so my next guess is this- is it a video card issue?09:16

nnnnnnnnhi all09:18
seabagafter restarting the x server all is well with the card09:18
DaveMorrisout of interest whats wrong with doing a shutdown instead of a suspend09:19
seabaghi nn09:19
seabagwell, mythtv should be able to suspend itself to save power, then wake up when it needs to record something09:19
DaveMorrisI might not understand suspend correctly, but dosen't it turn it's self off then09:20
seabagit does, but suspend stays awake enough for mythtv to wake it up when it needs it... at least in theory09:20
DaveMorriscool (learns stuff everyday)09:21
DaveMorrisI'm guessing you have a combined fe/be install which is whats causing the problem09:22
tgm4883_laptophi nnnnnnnn09:24
tgm4883_laptopI was under the impression that mythtv set the wakeup function in the bios, and thought that it wasn't necessary for a suspend09:24
nnnnnnnnanyone knowledgeable about mythbuntu-alpha3 ?09:41
nnnnnnnnif so, a question -- booting from the installer cd fails to start xorg correctly;09:41
nnnnnnnnI can reconfigure it, but how do I resume the installation process?09:42
seabagDaveMorris, sorry i had to do some work there. anyway, what's a fe/be install?09:42
seabagnnnnnnnn, you'll have to find the program that resumes the install process... i'm not sure what that is off the top of my head09:43
nnnnnnnnyeah, that's what I need to find all right09:43
nnnnnnnnno guesses though?09:44
seabagread the console output when it starts up properly on another pc to find out09:44

seabagah yes it is both my fe and be. i tried another video card this morning but it was too old. i may just run out to a random store and get a better pci video card today09:45
DaveMorrisI'm just wondering if it'll play back fine if you ran the frontend software on another PC09:49
DaveMorrisin which case you've narrorowed down the problem to been the video card on the front end09:49
seabagwell i know it's a video card problem on the frontend. :) because after waking up from suspend, it'll show the blue screen instead of the live tv signal. so, i set it to manually record a channel for 5 minutes. it recorded fine, but playback was blue screen (although strangely enough the little mini preview window was fine). i restarted, and it played back fine. so recording is perfect :D09:51
DaveMorrisyeah, but it could be mythtv frontend which is causing the problem09:54
DaveMorrisyou tried restarting mythtv frontend09:54
seabagyes. also mplayer does it, without mythtvfrontend09:55
seabagi even tried it in my brother's computer w/o mythtv even installed. same thing09:55
