LaserJock | moquist: ok, so if you install from the upstream tarball it's limited to localhost by default? | 05:20 |
moquist | I have high hopes that the Debian maintainer will take in the change away from wwwconfig, but a change that modifies security-relevant stuff would definitely not be as easy to sell. | 05:20 |
moquist | LaserJock: Yeah, and Moodle is configured to link to itself as http://localhost/moodle/ | 05:20 |

moquist | ogra: Exactly. not a big deal; I haven't carefully looked at the apache part of the configuration to see if config.php is all that would need to change. | 05:21 |

ogra | for round robin setups etc you will need that | 05:23 |
moquist | what does "configurable" mean? anything different than what the package already does? | 05:23 |
ogra | being able top specify a different server than localhost for the backend | 05:23 |

moquist | ogra: ah, yes. that is supported. | 05:24 |

ogra | *format | 05:39 |
matte_ | ogra, already do that so much time | 05:39 |
matte_ | times* | 05:39 |
ogra | matte_, /dev/sdb is *no* partition | 05:39 |
menoz | (menoz and matte_ work together ) | 05:39 |
ogra | i guessed so :) | 05:40 |
sbalneav | Well, try that and see. | 05:40 |
sbalneav | copy off you're data | 05:40 |
sbalneav | fdisk /dev/sdb | 05:40 |

sbalneav | see if that works | 05:41 |

matte_ | that? | 05:41 |
ogra | (do all that on the server ;) ) | 05:41 |
sbalneav | yeah, on the server | 05:41 |
ogra | and use cfdisk, its a bit more userfriendly | 05:41 |
sbalneav | heh, never tried that one, I always use the old, unfriendly one. | 05:42 |
moquist | cfdisk is good. | 05:42 |
menoz | so is it possible to have working non-partitioned usb pens? | 05:43 |
moquist | I haven't used it for years, but it is more careful than fdisk in ways that I remember being good. | 05:43 |
ogra | menoz, obvoisly not ... | 05:43 |
ogra | lets call that a bug :) | 05:43 |
cliebow_ | hmmm:ltsp-build-client is borking | 05:43 |
menoz | ok, one thing: this pen is mounted as SDA on th server, and sdb on the client | 05:43 |
ogra | menoz, that doesnt matter | 05:44 |
LaserJock | menoz: that's why you don't want a static line in fstab | 05:44 |
ogra | cliebow_, with an openpty() error ? | 05:44 |
sbalneav | cliebow_: Welcome to my weekend :) | 05:44 |
cliebow_ | no..on unpacking libxdmcp..tried it twice | 05:44 |
cliebow_ | heh!! | 05:44 |
LaserJock | ogra: human-theme is going to install the human gtk theme and icons as well, is that an issue? | 05:45 |
sbalneav | cliebow_: Look up about 10 lines: | 05:45 |
sbalneav | You'll see a: | 05:45 |
cliebow_ | yeah openpty failed is above | 05:45 |
ogra | icons might become a size issue | 05:45 |
menoz | yeah, you wizards! | 05:45 |
sbalneav | Extracting templates from packages: 100% | 05:45 |

cliebow_ | yep.. | 05:45 |
ogra | cliebow_, so wait until new apt is in | 05:46 |
cliebow_ | k | 05:46 |
cliebow_ | hour or two then.. | 05:46 |
ogra | rigth | 05:46 |
cliebow_ | 8~) | 05:46 |
=== sbalneav bounces up and down on his hands. Anxiously awaiting new apt. | ||
cliebow_ | careful there.. | 05:47 |
sbalneav | brb | 05:47 |
menoz | cliebow_: ok, one other question: is it possible that someone, let's say a pupil, has a non-partitioned pen? I mean: what pens are non-partitioned? | 05:47 |
cliebow_ | i am unsure which are.. | 05:48 |
cliebow_ | without doing an fdisk | 05:48 |
menoz | cliebow_: maybe only older one are non-partitioned? | 05:49 |
cliebow_ | i am unsure which are.. | 05:49 |
menoz | how many pens, let's say over 100, are non-partitioned? A few one? Most of them? | 05:50 |
LaserJock | I'm guessing they can "become" unpartitioned too | 05:50 |
LaserJock | if kids mess around with them | 05:50 |
menoz | is there any plan to support even non-partitioned pens? | 05:51 |
cliebow_ | i assume there is a technical reason they are not | 05:51 |
cliebow_ | if Scottie cant do it.... | 05:52 |
LaserJock | I think it's kinda hard to support a disk that is not partitioned | 05:53 |
menoz | ok but the main ltsp server read that pen, even before it was partitioned... | 05:54 |
LaserJock | I guess the best thing that could be done is to offer to wipe it out and partition it for you, but I think it's a bit of a corner case | 05:54 |
menoz | yep.. | 05:54 |

cliebow_ | thanks | 06:15 |
menoz | ok! | 06:16 |
menoz | is its integration planned? | 06:16 |

sbalneav | We have to deal with a lot of low end clients, and we constantly have to straddle the line between performance and functionality. | 06:17 |
menoz | ok; anyway, I think usb sticks (nowadays) are fare more important than, say, cdroms or floppies... So happy coding! But remember that this work you already done is fantastic, especially here in edubuntu where everything is well-integrated! | 06:20 |
menoz | Thank you very much :) | 06:21 |
LaserJock | ogra: ok, edubuntu-artwork uploaded. I'm guessing it'll take up a bit more space as it adds in the human icons | 06:22 |

JonNoob | hi guys. Need a little assistance... I have a Edubuntu Feisty Server AMD64. I am using thin client in a mixed 100Mbit/Gigabit environment. The problem is my client only will boot sometimes. It seems the problem is NFS which uses UDP protocol. I found a solution to change it to use TCP protocol, but they want me to chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 /bin/bash --login and then cd /etc/mkinitramfs/.... The problem is that there is no directory called thath(mkinitramfs) | 09:22 |
JonNoob | The solution is described here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/TroubleShooting | 09:23 |

thedman | hello everyone | 11:00 |
thedman | I just installed edubuntu in a small private school / 10 clients | 11:00 |
sbalneav | Nice to hear | 11:00 |
thedman | They still need to have the pc's to be able to boot into Windows occasionally, is there an easy way to setup the network so it can get it's dhcp address from the internet router without the edubuntu server trying to answer the dhcp request? | 11:00 |
thedman | Or even better can a Windows client use the dhcp server on the edubuntu server for Internet access? | 11:00 |
sbalneav | Sure | 11:00 |
sbalneav | The windows box will use an edubuntu supplied dhcp address just fine. | 11:05 |
thedman | Okay, I must have something configured wrong then. | 11:05 |

thedman | Just to be clear, the Windows client can get an address from the Edubunu server as well as have internet access through the Edubuntu server as well? | 11:07 |
sbalneav | Well, it depends on your network. | 11:15 |
sbalneav | How many network cards does the server have? | 11:15 |
sbalneav | 2? | 11:15 |

thedman | It has two nics | 11:15 |
thedman | I thought I had everything working at home before I installed, but now it seems even the clients running edubuntu don't have internet access either, some config must have changed. | 11:15 |
thedman | Is it safe to say that if internet access works for the edubuntu clients, it will work for Windows clients as well? I just need to figure what changed. | 11:17 |
stgraber | thedman: you'll need to set a FORWARD rule in iptables so routing will work for windows clients | 11:17 |
stgraber | by default edubuntu doesn't route traffic from LAN to WAN | 11:18 |
thedman | I see. | 11:18 |
thedman | Is there an easy command for that? I did not change any ip addresses from the default server install. | 11:18 |
stgraber | Ihave a quick script doing that, just let me paste it somewhere | 11:19 |
stgraber | http://paste.stgraber.org/2376 | 11:19 |
stgraber | ^^ assuming that your LAN is 192.168.0.X (I don't recall what the default one is) | 11:20 |
thedman | Thank you, yeah that is the default config | 11:20 |
