[03:33] sommer, yeah, if you delete the user, you lose your website. [03:33] heh...I'm trying to run a command over ssh using PHP, but the command runs as www-data. [03:34] just wondering if there's any problems in changing the home from /var/www to /home/something. [03:34] that way I can setup ssh keys outside the web space. [03:34] that is not because of the directory, that is because of the user apache runs as. [03:34] sommer: thanks for the lighttpd testing [03:35] oh your not using apache. [03:35] coNP: no problem. anytime you need some testing ping me and I'll see if I can help. [03:35] thanks sommer [03:35] will do :D [03:35] dendrobates: yeah I'm using apache for this project. [03:35] more of a hack really. [03:36] I'm thinking as long as the www-data user exists and it has rights to /var/www it shouldn't be an issue if it's the Home directory or not. [03:37] just wondering if anyone has experience in changing that. [03:37] sommer: you can change it, as long as the permissions are all still correct. [03:38] cool, thanks for the input. === kupesoft [n=dave@red-gw.cs.toronto.edu] has joined #ubuntu-server [03:42] sweet, home directory changed home directory and no issues so far. === gamble6x [i=bbg@gateway/tor/x-1b8377cb34022c47] has joined #ubuntu-server === juliux [n=juliux@ubuntu/member/juliux] has joined #ubuntu-server === juliux [n=juliux@ubuntu/member/juliux] has joined #ubuntu-server === tsurc_ [n=tsurc@tsurc.force9.co.uk] has joined #ubuntu-server === dendrobates [n=rclark@adsl-065-005-186-012.sip.asm.bellsouth.net] has joined #ubuntu-server === Janet32766 [n=chatzill@177.148.121.70.cfl.res.rr.com] has joined #ubuntu-server === ewook [n=ewook@5.234.216.81.static.han.vf.siwnet.net] has joined #ubuntu-server === Styles [n=Styles@67.138.244.194] has joined #ubuntu-server [05:18] Any opinions on running a 'packaged' firewall or iptables? server sits behind a ipcop dist, but I wish to be on the safer side, and log traffic. [05:21] on feisty ubuntu-xen-server is built with 2.6.19.4 but the headers for that kernel are not available in the repos. I would like to be able to get xen and drbd on the same host os [05:25] Package xen-headers-2.6.19-4-server [05:25] * feisty (devel): Common header files for Linux 2.6.19 [universe] [05:25] 2.6.19-2ubuntu7: i386 [05:26] http://packages.ubuntu.com | was that the package you were looking for? [05:27] now why didn't i find that when I searched. Thanks should do nicley.... I hope [05:28] dunno how you searched :) [05:28] hope it helps. [05:29] I was a little slower, but went to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu and searched on xen-server and found the same. [05:38] bugger.... /usr/src/modules/drbd/drbd/drbd_fs.c:31:26: error: linux/config.h: No such file or directory [05:39] *_* [05:43] installed feisty server ok, followed docs on getting ubuntu-xen-server installed ok, now I'm trying to get drbd to work but to do that (now I have the kernel headers for the running kernel) I need to compile the drbd module. when I try using "sudo m-a a-i drbd0.7-module-source" it fails with that error [05:44] you're way out of my leage now *_* [05:44] sorry [05:49] my idea is that I work in a grammar school and we have just got two identical dell servers. I want to have mega redundancy. so I install ubuntu-server, then ubuntu-xen-server so I can run a number of servers on the same machine then use drbd to replicate the running virtual servers to the other box. Then use heartbeat to monitor them, If one machine goes down the second should auto start the virtual servers again [05:50] I have seen it done on CentOS but not ubuntu [05:50] sounds like a good idea. [05:50] should be doable. [05:51] "should" thats a nice word [05:51] never worked with xen tho. [05:51] ya... it is.
