paranHi. I just installed gutsy using the latest kubuntu daily (20070819) installed. it failed to find any installable kernels01:40
paranin the log console on tty4 it said "base-installer: info: Found kernels ''"01:41
paranthis was on i38601:42
parancan't really write a good bug report as I didn't have time to collect more information, I simply installed the kernel-image deb using dpkg :)01:43

superm1evand, before you release today, i've got a few minor changes that'd i'd like if you could merge in at the mythbuntu branch.  none of them should be detrimental to the mainline binaries prior to tribe-508:02

fnetoHi all! Can anyone help me with a problem in the debian installer?05:54
fnetoIt is my first time on this channel.05:54
evandfneto: feel free to ask any questions and if someone can answer them, they will reply when they can05:58
fnetoThanks. I'm customizing Ubuntu to add some programs that we developed for internal use in our company ok!06:00
fnetoI have created an extras dir and add all of my software to it. I've re-signed the packages and created a pressed file. My installation is working perfectly for now!06:01
fnetoMy problem is that my iso file is using 798Mb of space, and my company's PC's only have CD-ROM drives. So I'like to break my installation in 2 cd's.06:02
fnetoHow can I do that?06:02
evandfneto: I'm checking on that for you.  I don't know the answer myself, but there's another developer who definitely does.06:16
glledowhat about using those (more expensive) 800MB cd-rs?06:20
fnetomy problem is that I'not finding these 800Mb CD for buy in my country. I can't use a netboot installation image because some pcs are on places that have only dial-up access06:23
btmperhaps there are other packages on the cd that could be removed?06:24
fnetoand probably I will need to put 20Mb of data  inside the cd06:24
evandfneto: Support for that in Ubuntu has always been disabled to make using a single CD as easy as possible, and it's probably too big a change to easily unwind.  cjwatson, the lead developer on the installer, suggested that you have people insert the second CD after installation, which will result in the desktop prompting them to add the CD to their sources.06:24
fnetoI try to remove some packages, but even packages that I will not need like gimp are dependecies of anothers that I want to use06:25
fnetoYeah this idea of the second CD is probably the most useful thing to do!06:26
fnetoBut let me ask you something if I use a second CD should I use an specific structure on this CD or only copy all the deb packages on the root is enough?06:27
evandfneto: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageCDs06:33
fnetook I'm reading it now! I will follow the instructions and test it again!06:36
fnetoAnd let me ask you another thing? I customize the desktop menus and appearance. How can I distribute these customizations in the install CD?? Do I need to repackge ?06:38
fnetowhat packages should I change?06:38
btmfneto: you may want to look into change management like cfengine or popper.06:49

xivulonevand, did you try preseeding with the live cd?10:41
evandseveral times in the past, but it's been a while since I've tried it10:41
evandit should work everywhere except possibly in migration-assistant10:41
xivuloncan you please remind me what the kernel argument is?10:44
evandurl= or file=10:44
evandI use url=http://evalicious.com/evan.seed to test.  You're welcome to use it.10:44
xivulonhm I tried that, but it just booted into  the desktop10:45
evandit will.  We still need to wire everything up so that ubiquity automatically starts in automatic mode10:45
evandso for the time being you'll need to call ubiquity with --automatic10:45
xivulonah that what I forgot10:46
=== tepsipakki [n=tjaalton@replicant.hut.fi] has joined #ubuntu-installer
xivulonevand, it freezes, looks like there are segfault issues as well.10:57
evandarghh kernel oops10:57
=== evand throws a brick at VMWare Server
evandxivulon: what freezes?10:57
xivulonI guess when X has to start, my VM does not accept any input, have to shut it down. Not sure if that is when the autoinstaller is starting, possibly the same mount -o move issue?10:58
xivulontrying to boot without quiet splash11:02
evandyikes, that one is new to me11:02
xivulonThere are segmentation faults after and before init-bottom11:02
xivulonbut it's going on11:03
evandoh yeah, I should point out that there's no way you'll get a working install in the livecd currently11:04
evandas those segfaults you're seeing are the result of the mount bug11:04
evandwhich means /rofs doesn't get properly mounted11:04
evandand thus cannot be copied into the new filesystem11:04
evandthe installer should work fine up until you hit the install button though11:04
xivulonit loaded the desktop, is it ignoring url=... --automatic?11:05
evandxivulon: if you have answered questions in the debconf database (less /var/cache/debconf/config.dat or debconf-communicate), then you know url= worked.  If you run ubiquity in --debug mode (in addition to --automatic) you should see lines like 30 question skipped11:08
evandor something along those lines11:08
xivulonahh so you still have to click on "install", I thought the installer would be launched during the boot process without reaching the desktop11:09
evandnot yet11:10
evandthat's on the todo list11:10
xivulonnot sure all preseed options went in, US English is set as seen, but I do not see things like hostname and username.11:14
xivulonevand, did you tell colin about the "HD preseed scanner"? I mentioned it on my email but had no comment on it11:15
evandxivulon: indeed, I believe he will reply to your email tomorrow or within the week.  It came up on a call with him and I believe his response was that he will need to give it some thought.11:17

CIA-20ubiquity: * Repeat changes to page handling code to kdeui.11:27
xivulonevand, I may scrap together a script to add to local-top from the reminder of lupin11:27
evandok11:28
xivulonevand, on a separate topic, are windows line ending in preseed supported?11:28
evandxivulon: good question, I'm not really sure11:28
xivulonthey did not use to be supported but did not test11:28
xivulonsince the preseed is in windows, some users will probably want to edit it manually before using it11:28
xivulonso supporting windows line endings is the safest option11:29
xivulonin lupin I used to convert them (in a poor fashion), but it would be better to support them directly11:29
evandI'll bring it up with cjwatson and make the change if he agrees.11:31
xivulonthanks11:31

superm1evand, will you be able to get our changes for mythbuntu's frontend merged into 1.5.11, or is it too late for that?12:04
