brycekeescook: there's only one issue left before I will be comfortable turning bulletproof-x mode on.  There is a bug in gdm where it doesn't recognize after it starts FailsafeXServer, that it's in a failsafe mode, and it keeps attempting to restart X every minute01:40
brycekeescook: I created a trivial demo of the bug and sent it to the gdm devel list, so am hoping to get a solution to that within a few days.  Guess we'll see.01:41
keescookbryce: ah, does that need to be taught to gdm or upstart?01:41

bryceI dug through the gdm source code and followed how it handles the FailsafeXServer option.  I don't grok all the forks and display detection logic goo, but it feels like it's missing a couple checks for d->failsafe_server...  I'm just not certain where those checks fit01:42
bryceI get the impression this is a gdm option that hasn't been much used01:42

Mulderwhat's the rationale behind not creating /dev/parport0 by default in feisty and possibly gusty and above?04:47
ion_mulder: Do you have a parallel port? :-)04:48
Mulderion_, yes.04:48
LaserJockion_: what kind of question is that? ;-)04:49
LaserJocklots of people have parallel ports04:49
Mulderi cant think of many machines that dont04:49
ion_laserjock: There are PCs with no parallel ports.04:49
LaserJockion_: sure some don't04:49
LaserJockah, I misunderstood your question04:49
ion_mulder: Anything interesting about parport in the dmesg output?04:50
LaserJockI was thinking you were saying that parallel ports where obsolete and nobody uses them04:50
Muldernothing interesting, just the usual detected parport thing04:50
Mulderi mean it's not a big deal, i can just mknod a parport0 character device file myself04:50
ion_mulder: Ok, so the parport module is loaded automatically on startup, right?04:51
Mulderbut it just seems odd to me it doesnt get created by default04:51

plopixI am trying to backport python-qt4 from gutsy to feisty using pbuilder. python-qt4 has an unmet dependency to libqt4. Is it possible to include a successfully backported libqt4 package in a pbuilder run to satify the dependcy for python-qt4?08:46
nixternalplopix: what is the unmet dependency version? does it have something like (>= 4.3)?08:56
nixternallibqt4 in feisty is 4.2.1 I believe08:56
plopixnixternal: yes.08:58
nixternalchange the >= 4.3 to 4.2 and it should fix your problems...err, actually no it probably won't08:58
plopixand it tells me that it has unsatified depdencies08:58
nixternalI think the python-qt4 is also 4.3 in gutsy, so you would have to backport all of the libqt4 packages as well08:59
plopixthats what I wrote, I think ;)08:59
nixternalya you did :)09:01
nixternalmaybe if I learned how to read :)09:01
plopixwhat I do not know is, how to tell pbuilder to use some local packages09:01
beunoplopix: maybe just install the backported library and save the pbuilder enviroment?09:01
beunoopen it up with --save-after-login09:02
nixternalplopix: pbuilder allows you to use an alternate repo (ie. locally) and build hooks09:02
