I want the GUI which is why I am using the Desktop version instead of the Server version. I am following this tutorial. http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu_lamp_for_newbies I know that using the server edition not only can preinstall LAMP but it also takes a lot of security steps (i.e. closing certain ports). This tutorial only installs LAMP and does n [06:05] ot cove [06:05] r any additional steps that might be needed for security. Is there anything you can suggest that I do? [06:09] maestroJed, A firewall app would be good. I'd suggest Firestarter if your using a gui. [06:10] maestroJed, http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/serverguide/C/index.html should be helpful to. And not everyone thinks firewalls are that useful for servers that are properly upgraded and maintained.
