[High,Confirmed] [06:30] this is never going to be fixed for me [06:30] nobody is never going to ask me more information [06:31] and this is a *regression* [06:31] I wasted hours trying to report bugs as best as I could [06:31] but nobody is ever going to care about my bug [06:31] because it was marked as fixed and I have to reopen [06:31] but if I reopen [06:32] given the lifecycle of a bug [06:32] I will not see it even considered before gutsy+1 [06:32] and I have been waiting since feisty rc [06:32] and that's all [06:32] thank you === Le-Chuck_ITA [06:45] well, they said they'd fix it in -updates [06:45] but havent yet [06:46] But there's a prospective kernel asking for testing. [06:46] true [06:46] and they're finding that some people's are working, and some still arent. [06:46] Indeed. That seemed to be the story of the bug. [06:47] "works for me", "broke for me", rinse and repeat. [06:47] yep [06:48] ah yes, he is the complaining one on the bug. [06:51] bah. he left. === predius_ [n=predius@190.8.154.185] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === jimmacdonald [n=jim@138-212-223-66.gci.net] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === Le-Chuck_ITA [n=Le-Chuck@host251-171-dynamic.17-87-r.retail.telecomitalia.it] has joined #ubuntu-bugs [07:24] ok my complaint was not for the bug cycle being long, which is normal given the few people working at that [07:25] my complaint was about bugs being marked as fixed after months of discussion with people for who the bug is not fixed [07:25] and so [07:25] this was the wrong place to complain [07:25] Yes. [07:26] So, things I see from that bug: [07:26] 1) The feisty bug is still "Confirmed, high". [07:26] the only reason why I mentioned the lifecycle, to be clearer, is that who asks me to report has to know that it is long, sorry for confusion [07:26] RAOF: [07:26] I reopened taht [07:26] 2) There's a test-update available, which fixes the problem for some, but apparently not all. [07:26] it was marked as fixed [07:27] *Is* it fixed in feisty? [07:28] for some people [07:28] and in gutsy too [07:28] for other people [07:28] including me [07:28] Ok, so that particular bug is probably fixed in feisty, and this is another bug. [07:28] this is not fixed in feisty nor in gutsy [07:28] yes I don't want to bore everybody here since I already said this privately to one of you :) [07:29] but the point is it's not clear at all that these are two different bugs [07:29] they are perfectly similar, the fix looks just incomplete [07:29] and that's the reason to do testing [07:29] if you wished to fix bugs as soon as it worked for some reporter then you'd not do testing at all IMHO [07:29] The fix was to unrevert a newer version of the drivers. [07:29] yes [07:29] *That* has been done, and thus *thah [07:29] and that didnt' work for me but the old version [07:30] *that* bug has been fixed. [07:30] worked for me in edgy [07:30] so there must be something unreverted [07:30] Or maybe the new drivers don't work for you. [07:30] oh sorry I read "the fix was to revert" [07:31] ok that's a possibility [07:31] Either way, it seems that the bug, as reported, has been fixed. [07:31] again: if switching to a new version of a driver to fix bugs of some breaks things for other, isn't it the case to keep discussing the problem in the same bug report and mark as fixed only when it does not introduce new problems? [07:31] Basically, for the already released feisty, the mistaken unrevert has been fixed. [07:32] I had feisty pre-releases where it worked out of the box on the live cd [07:32] and that was a great improvement from edgy === asisak [n=conp@ubuntu/member/coNP] has joined #ubuntu-bugs [07:32] so this is why I still claim the bug is not fixed [07:32] Not when the head of the kernel team says "please file another bug against the gutsy kernel, with all appropriate info' :) [07:32] I see [07:33] and [07:33] I also see [07:33] the kernel team, which is the right place to complain [07:33] will not reply to me on IRC [07:33] you did [07:33] so I appreciate this [07:33] I will try to write an e-mail to ben [07:34] but I am ready to bet that I will not get any reply - and believe it or not usually I am not angry when I e-mail or chat :) [07:34] It seems like there's a bit of frustraiton on both ends, really. === ec4 [n=ec4@137.132.208.3] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === Hobbsee suspects ben is very busy, and has a very big inbox. [07:36] switching to a more abstract level, this seems to be turning into a problem [07:36] yes, and that's really turning into a problem [07:36] because when we approach the BTS [07:37] we think that joint forces will improve things [07:37] instead [07:37] things get worse everyday because there are too many forces :) [07:38] being ignored when you take your time to report a bug, install relevant dbg packages, reproduce, maybe reboot two or three times, and then see that the bug assignee don't read you is frustrating [07:38] otoh [07:38] I know why I am not solving bugs [07:38] and am not a bug contact for any ubuntu package [07:39] anyway I suppose that talking again and again about it won't change things [07:39] Le-Chuck_ITA: You're not really being ignored. [07:40] Rather, there are a _lot_ of bugs, and people will glance at a lot, and try to fix those they think they can fix. [07:40] I agree with this, and that's the reason why I don't complain for those bugs that I opened 12 months ago with all the relevant information [07:41] New bug: #137683 in kde-guidance (main) "[PATCH] xorgconfig.py crashes on "disable" in Modules section" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137683 [07:41] problems arise when you know that information is not enough [07:41] and want to know how to provide more, only a developer can tell you in that case [07:41] and if the developer does not reply you get frustrated [07:41] however [07:41] that's none of your business :) [07:41] so I have to stop it here [07:43] and I am seriously thinking about debugging the driver with some printk === coNP [n=conp@ubuntu/member/coNP] has joined #ubuntu-bugs [07:46] thank you both and have a nice day [07:46] or night [07:46] Good afternoon :) === Le-Chuck_ITA [n=Le-Chuck@host251-171-dynamic.17-87-r.retail.telecomitalia.it] has left #ubuntu-bugs ["Leaving."] === kagou [n=Patrice@77.193.180.204] has joined #ubuntu-bugs [07:56] that was fun [08:10] New bug: #137686 in linux-source-2.6.22 (main) "[gutsy] [regression] (regression from edgy to feisty and to gutsy) tifm_sd module not working and not producing any message in logs" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137686 === Lure [n=lure@external-1.hermes.si] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === kagou_ [n=Patrice@86.69.136.184] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === Gasten [n=Gasten@h52n9c1o1095.bredband.skanova.com] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === XtremeBain [n=xtremeba@CPE0080c81df4ba-CM00159a427730.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === dholbach [n=daniel@i59F77511.versanet.de] has joined #ubuntu-bugs [08:51] good morning [08:55] New bug: #137688 in xchat (universe) "xchat doesn't remember "minimize to tray" setting" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137688 [09:00] New bug: #137689 in empathy (universe) "empathy should depend on telepathy-gnome" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137689 === thekorn [n=thekorn@a89-182-25-231.net-htp.de] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === mvo [n=egon@p54A675A7.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #ubuntu-bugs === thekorn [n=thekorn@a89-182-25-231.net-htp.de] has joined #ubuntu-bugs [09:08] good morning [09:08] hey thekorn === dholbach hugs thekorn === thekorn hugs dholbach [09:10] New bug: #137690 in ubuntu "[gutsy] Xorg hangs randomly when compiz enabled intel/i810" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137690 [09:10] New bug: #137691 in ubuntu "error setting up inter-process communications for kde in Gusty Kubuntu Cd Tribe 5" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137691 [09:21] New bug: #137692 in openoffice.org (main) "wrong symbols on paper in place of right ones on screen" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137692 === kagou_ is now known as kagou === kagou hugs dholbach and thekorn :) === thekorn hugs kagou ! === dholbach hugs kagou back [09:27] dholbach: "fix" in bug 137554 really breaks apport, [09:27] Launchpad bug 137554 in python-launchpad-bugs "Bug.subscribtions should probably be Bug.subscribers" [Undecided,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/137554 [09:27] thanks thekorn for working so hard on pylpbugs [09:27] so should I add a double alsias 137554 [09:27] subscriptions = subscribtions = subscribers [09:27] will that be a lot of work?
