kousotukousotu@kousotu-laptop:/usr/local/bin$ '/usr/local/bin/aim'08:31

pwnguinor rather, you'll get support, in the form of people asking you to try out new software and upload log files08:31

pwnguinand if apt-get breaks, you'll be expected to dig yourself out ;)08:32

pwnguinTsukasa: beware08:34
paradizelosthey all, i've got a Geforce 8800GTX superoverclocked from EVGA, and i'm having a hell of a time getting it to display. it works crappily with the open source drivers, and not at all with nvidia's drivers08:35
pwnguinTsukasa: kernel updates don't share08:35
pwnguinparadizelost: check launchpad, there's a fairly public bug about libwsomething08:35
kousotuparadizelost: you cold try envy08:35
kousotuparadizelost: but I hear that it messs somthing up08:36
paradizelostpwnguin: i had that, but booted to recovery and did an apt-get dist-upgrade and it fixed it08:36
paradizelostat least i don't get that error anymore08:36
pwnguinwhat's superoverclocked mean?08:36
paradizelostit's the model08:36
pwnguinsounds dangerous08:36
kousotulol08:36
paradizelostit came that way from EVGA08:37
paradizelost:D08:37
kousotupwnguin: it probably is08:37
paradizelostit's the 768MB model08:37
pwnguinhahahaha08:37
paradizelostbut they pre-overclock it08:37
kousotuyea, bu nvidia's cards suck08:37

kousotuI have;t had much love from them08:38

ubotuTo install the Ati/NVidia drivers for your video card, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto08:38
pwnguinim guessing you've already hit up xorg.conf08:39
kousotuMicrosoft made the FX 5200 driver I used on vista08:39
pwnguinwith the correct value08:39
paradizelostpwnguin: i started off trying to have my 19" LCD, and my 32" HDTV on it, both DVI08:39

paradizelostand when i run nvidia-xconfig and restart gdm, i have to ssh in from another machine and edit xorg.conf and reboot08:40

=== bigon [n=bigon@69.219-201-80.adsl-dyn.isp.belgacom.be] has joined #ubuntu+1
paradizelostwell, nv is the only one that semi-works. if i change to nvidia, i ahve to ssh in from another machine and change xorg.conf and reboot08:44
paradizelosthmm here's a site that says i need to add nv to the disabled modules08:44
Jordan_Uparadizelost, I guess bulletproof X is not in Gutsy  yet :)08:44

MTecknologydpkg: error processing tzdata (--configure):     subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1012:17
penguin42A few lines before the actual error from the script should have appeared12:17
MTecknologytzdata already newest...12:18

MTecknologyi think i'm going to need to go from scratch12:28
PiciI'm backup up now to do just that12:28
penguin42MTecknology: Now you do see why the /topic warns to make sure you can fight your way through deb problems before trying an upgrade!12:29
MTecknologypenguin42: don't worry - i'm not coomplaining12:29
penguin42you can probably fix it12:30
MTecknologyi'm perfectly willing to do a clean install of either version if i can't get it fixed12:30
MTecknologyeither way though - i need to fix somebodies computer. They're claiming it's incredibly slow and they're running windows12:30
MTecknologyi offered to fix it under one condition12:31
Sergeminepenguin42, no12:31
penguin42Sergemine: ?12:32
Sergeminepenguin42, but it is in Gusy's repo12:32
MTecknologyi figure if i'm going to install ubuntu on it then i may as well grab 7.1012:32
penguin42Sergemine: What's the package?12:32
MTecknologyanybody willing to give me the link again?12:32
SergemineIt is http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/text/foo2zjs12:33
Sergeminepenguin42, it is the updated driver that is supposed to have some kind of compression XQX protocol that is specific for my printer only. I need to know if it is there12:34
penguin42Sergemine: You can try filing a bug on the feisty-backports and it often try a rebuild for the packport quickly; or you could try building it from source pacakges for feisty12:37
MTecknologyhere's my errors: http://pastebin.ca/68768512:38
=== regis_ [n=regis@host-85-27-16-225.brutele.be] has joined #ubuntu+1
scizzo-MTecknology: seems like a package error12:43
scizzo-when doing --configure12:43
MTecknologyya12:43
MTecknologyi tried doing dpkg-reconfigure tzdata but it complains about tzdata being broken\12:44
penguin42hmm that is odd - no errors from the actual script printed12:45
penguin42MTecknology: You should find the package in your /var/cache/apt/archives - try installing it with dpkg -i ?12:45
MTecknologythat returns the same error code, just as helpful12:47
=== PriceChild [n=pricechi@ubuntu/member/pdpc.supporter.student.PriceChild] has joined #ubuntu+1
SergemineDear penguin42: ...or you could try building it from source pacakges for feisty. I am not aprogrammer and I do not know how to compile software. I would love to learn to do it, but there is no one to teach me that. How do people usually solve these situation? Do I pay someone to do it for me? How much does it cost? Is there a service on internet that do these compilations? Does everyone here know how to ocmpile software?12:49
penguin42Sergemine: Hmm I suggest the easiest thing is to post a bug on launchpad against feisty-backports asking for the package; last time I did that they had it built in a few days but it depends whether it is just a mattter of automatically building it or someone has to fix something12:50
penguin42Sergemine: Or wait a few weeks and Gutsy will be here12:51
