aaroncampbell_I just installed Gutsy on a second computer for a quick test.  I use Kubuntu every day, so I had a pretty good idea what I needed/wanted.  I opened the Adept installer, and chose about 250M of programs to download/install.  I got an error, that not everything could be installed.  Now some of it doesn't work.  Is there a way to clear up partially installed or broken packages?01:31
MTecknologysudo apt-get isntall -f\01:32
MTecknology-f **01:32
MTecknologytime to try to boot into gutsy for the first time01:33
aaroncampbell_sudo apt-get install -f does nothing...01:34
penguin42aaroncampbell_: When you say some stuff doesn't work can you give us some examples?01:34
aaroncampbell_0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.01:34
aaroncampbell_penguin42, Eclipse can't find Java, Thunderbird showed as installed, but wasn't there.01:35
penguin42is this a fresh install or an upgrade?01:35
aaroncampbell_I removed and then re-added thunderbird, and not it's there.01:35
aaroncampbell_now* it's there01:35
aaroncampbell_Also, adept throws that error that I got quite often now.01:36
penguin42what was the error again?01:36
aaroncampbell_I said that it couldn't finish, and that some of the packages might be messed up.  Let me see if I can make it do it again, and quote it.01:37

jscinoz_Jkirk_ have you got nvidia-settings installed?06:28
JKirk_not sure...probably not if it wasn't automatice06:28
JKirk_oh yea...it's there06:28
jscinoz_JKirk_, i'd recommend you download the binary package for the drivers from nvidia's website and then install nvidia-settings through synaptic06:28
MTecknologycan somebody please help me get this? it's my last major issue in getting 7.10 working06:29
MTecknologythe restricted driver manager tells me the ipw3945 drive in enabled but ot in use06:29
JKirk_ah...there we go06:29
jscinoz_once you have both the binary drivers + nvidia settings, open nvidia settings go to "X display configuration"06:29
jscinoz_click detect displays, and you should be good from there06:29
JKirk_I can't recall now...is twinview better or separate? (for cube rotation)06:29
jscinoz_Not sure, never tried dual displays with compiz, compiz causes my system to hang if i run it + anything else 3d at the same time06:30
jscinoz_I'd go with twinview06:30
jscinoz_the you have a choice of having the screen an extension of the main screen a certain direction from it, a clone of the main screen, or an independant screen.06:31

lucasvosn0: no, I wasn't09:10
sn0xgl is not started by default henke ?09:10
henkesn0: it is, but it shouldn't :)09:11
lucasvosn0: it's an ATI card09:11
lucasvoI know that it's a problem with XGL because I had the same problem on another gutsy install on the same machine09:11
sn0lucasvo then you should be using the opensource ati drivers, try removing compiz to try09:12
sn0i don't see how xgl would be installed with the opensource drivers, asthey support aiglx09:12
lucasvosn0: ok I will09:13
lucasvosn0: It is a 100% clean install09:13
lucasvoI didn't add any package09:13
henkesn0: it doesn't honor keyboard language settings, and it's terribly slow on my radeon r300 card which runs much better with AIGLX. I disabled the automatic start by adding the driver to the blacklist in the Xsession startup files, however that doesn't seem to hep anymore :-)09:13
sn0lucasvo so its not an upgrade oh, i apologise i thought you said you upgraded to gutsy09:13
lucasvosn0: it is an upgrade from a clean install09:14
sn0henke xserver-xgl is the package, since when has this been installed by default in gutsy?09:14
lucasvoI installed feisty and immediatly upgraded to gutsy09:14

lucasvobtw, anyone knows how to configure a wlan interface on the command line?09:14
penguin42arooni: Try getting the powertop package - it gives you tips on what you can do to help09:15
sn0henke thats a bit interesting, i haven't used ati in a while but remembering having to set up xgl manually, i thought in gutsy you only had to install it, and on a new session opened it would start automatically. hmm09:15

sn0benanz1 im not sure where such a thing would be logged, if at all09:25

DanaGIf I do savagefb->usplash->xorg, X gets all screwed up and corrupt.12:12
DanaGHowever, if I do usplash->savagefb->xorg, it works fine.12:12
DanaGI hope the new ATI stuff will have accelerated framebuffer drivers...12:13

DanaGI wish the base usplash wouldn't use blue text.12:14
DanaGIt should use brown-orange, like the vga=anything mode.12:14

aaroncampbell_I tried to enable compiz (from the command line...I didn't see a link anywhere), but my windows lot their decorations...12:27
aaroncampbell_In Beryl, I'd right click on the icon in my status bar, and choose a different decorator, or reload it...but I don't know how to do that with compiz...12:27
zirodayaaroncampbell: you need fusion-icon. I dont think its in the repos tho12:28

Amaranthdispraekailo: the firewall doesn't have any rule set by default (it doesn't do anything)01:08
AmaranthAnd you can't disable it, it's a part of the kernel01:09
dispraekailoI already took care of it.01:09

nemikit's not as bad as i expected, even 1 month ago when i first got it01:16
jml(is it actually a known thing that the fonts are bigger? or is it only local weirdness?)01:16
