derjohnhi, as I still miss linux-image-2.6.22-.*-xen in the amd64 repo of gutsy, I want to build the kernel myself. Usually I use make-kpkg for the job, but i read severa times about the "new building infrastructure" - do we now build kernel debs differntly (i.e. dpkg-buildpackage or such) ? ( zul ? )01:30

bullgard4When has been the 2.6.20 kernel, and when has been released the 2.6.22 kernel?06:22
BenC2.6.22 was released about 2 months ago06:27
BenC2.6.20 about 6 months prior06:27
derjohnBenC, EHLO! I have a question about ipw3945. I suxx to use that for notebooks that suspend and resume. I saw iwl3945 already in 2.6.22 which does not need the regulatory daemon. But iwl.* is quite buggy in 2.6.22, there were lots of changes in 2.6.23. Is there any change that ubuntu backports it or includes the driver from intel's website (which should be very close to what 2.6.23 has ...)06:50

BenCderjohn: we're looking into the newer iwlwifi driver, but it requires some tricky things because of dependency on newer mac80211 stack07:09
derjohnBenC, fine that there is already progress, so I dont have to file a buglet. Maybe you should take 2.6.23 and rename the versionstring to 2.6.22-ubusuperbackport and save lots of work? *g* </Just Kidding> thanks for you effort ....07:12
derjohnBenC, btw, about notebooks: Is there a plan to bring queueprotect out of the box? I think several notebooks and hdds support thinks similar to hdaps. It would be sad if users like me would have to recompile only for that feature. how to you guys solve that on your notebooks?07:14

bdmurrayBenC: So some 2.6.22 bugs for Wednesday?07:50
BenCbdmurray: yeah08:03
zulthe netboot installer is neat08:04
paranBenC: what is problems with pulling in a new mac80211 subsystem together with iwlwifi? lots of other modules that use it and so might break, or something else?08:08
BenCparan: exactly that08:10
BenCthe in-kernel mac80211 is used by a few other drivers, and too big of a risk to just up it to a completely new API08:11
paranBenC: as I suspected. but it sounds like you have some plan, the "tricky things" you mentioned? having a new iwlwifi-driver would be good as basicly all new laptops seem to have intel 4965agn wifi :)08:21
BenCparan: were aware of this, but current 4965 works and we don't want to risk degrading that, or other things in order to update it :)08:22
BenCespecially just a little more than a month before release08:22
ivoksplease don't :) ipw3945 untill yesterday didn't work :)08:23
paranBenC: off course, I am only curious :)08:24
BenCwe wont be switching 3945 support to iwl08:25
BenCgutsy will support 3945 through ipw394508:25
