StevenHarperUKCan anyone help?12:59
kiko-fudStevenHarperUK, if the packages differ, then the versions need to be different.01:02
kiko-fudthe problem is that the binaries will be different because they need to be recompiled against different chroots01:02
StevenHarperUKRight so should I make a 0.1.6 for feisty then a 0.1.7 for gutsy?01:03
StevenHarperUKor just packaging version chnages?01:03
StevenHarperUK0.1.5-0 -> 0.1.5-101:03

gnomefreakwith email atleast02:45
pooliei just typed that in02:45
gnomefreakthan it wouldnt have showed it if you didnt add it?02:45
poolieuh, yes02:46
pooliehowever, the intended behaviour is iirc that it should not show it even if i did add it02:46
Rinchenemail addresses should be obscured from anonymous access. 02:47
poolieRinchen, it seems to work for comments but not for the original description02:47
gnomefreakRinchen: but he added it to the bug report himself02:47
gnomefreakanything i type ina  report will show up02:47
gnomefreaksomeone would have to monitor it and pull it no?02:47
pooliegnomefreak, the intended behaviour is that even if someone explicitly enters an email address, it will not be shown to anonymous users02:48
poolieas an antispam measure02:48
gnomefreakwhen was this put into effect? i thought tha twas only for replying by email02:48
pooliegnomefreak, this has always been the policy, but it was only implemented for bug comments a couple of months ago02:49
Rinchenwell, in this case, if I understand correctly, gnomefreak is correct.02:49
gnomefreaki thought it was just done for replies or reports sent by email02:50
gnomefreaknot for reporting it on LP02:50
RinchenI can view tickets with email addresses in their text fields 02:50
pooliei'm pretty sure that's a bug02:50
gnomefreakthat would be nice if while it was held in security to be removed than but not all bugs go through that02:50
RinchenI cannot view email from the person page though 02:50
pooliethere's a firm principle, confirmed by steve on the list a while ago, that 'we do not show email addresses to anonymous users'02:51
gnomefreakRinchen: i like the idea alot but i havent seen anything in place for it or heard of it being done for random reports in LP just emails02:51
Rinchenpoolie, yes. I'll check with Steve to see if this falls within that. 02:52

mrevellcharles: I can't imagine there'd be a problem. As you write it yourself, do you definitely need to host it on Launchpad though? Or are you planning to invite contributions from others?02:45
charlesmrevell: I certainly would like others to participate. I'm a physics teacher and I would like other physics teachers to get involved. The tools that others option provide are not a easy to use as those on launchpad. The simplicity of Launchpad would best serve those who might participate.02:49
mrevellcharles: That's fantastic, I'm glad you feel Launchpad is the best option for you. Do you know how to register your project in Launchpad?02:50

Ceefour666do Ubuntu and Debian fights everyday? LOL11:42
ddaamh... well, some people did not find that hilarious at all11:42
ddaathe sysadmin was cooperative and the issue was promptly resolved11:42
ddaabut the fact IS we were spamming their svn server senseless11:43
lifelessCeefour666: we downloaded gb's of data 11:43
lifelessCeefour666: because svn tags are not semantic11:43
Ceefour666Yeah indeed11:44
Ceefour666I see the problem11:45
Ceefour666I imagine checking out a whole project hundreds of times :P11:45
Ceefour666It'd probably much better simply giving a complete, gzipped SVN dump :P11:45
ddaathe related problem is that we do not WANT to import full repositories11:45
ddaabut only trunk branches11:46
ddaathe issue is that "trunk" is only a convention in Subversion11:46
LaserJockman, I made the mistake of doing a full checkout of the Debian TeX svn repo one time11:46
LaserJock20GB11:46
LaserJocktook forever11:46
ddaaCeefour666: some repositories, such as yours, have a trunk branch that does not actually have "trunk" in its name.11:46
LaserJocklifeless: is there any bzr plugin/app that will do CVS like bzr-svn?11:48
ddaaand subversion gives us know way to know that a URL is actually a branch root (safe to checkout) or something else (that may potentially causes 100x more traffic than this repository normally generates).11:48
lifelessLaserJock: no, but the bzr-cvsps-import plugin will convert11:48
ddaaLaserJock: I promised I would physically harm whoever did that.11:48
ddaabzr-cvps-import does this the right way11:48
lifelessLaserJock: cvs is substantially harder than svn to do just-in-time conversions on11:49
ddaacvs is not consistent enough to support transparent interoperation like bzr-svn does11:49
lifelessddaa: I have some ideas actually.11:49
LaserJockok11:49
LaserJockdarn11:49
LaserJockI was hoping to get away with not using CVS anymore11:49
lifelessddaa: about how to make it work, with repo fuckage and all. But it would be a little slow.11:49
ddaalifeless: I have no faith in anything that tries to do that without content-addressed revision-ids11:50

=== beuno runs the smart server from apache
ddaaso the protocol must avoid excessive use of http headers12:03
Ceefour666I think it's much easier to simply reverse proxy from apache?12:03
Ceefour666oh so that's the problem12:04
ddaaCeefour666: just guessing12:04
Ceefour666is it possible to track down the specific revision.. and then recreate (synth?) the problem?12:05
Ceefour666Probably helpful for SVN guys if this is really an SVN/apache bug... and not simply a misconfigured repo12:05
ddaawhat do you "specific revision"?12:05
Ceefour666I'll try David's advice of traversing the log in reverse12:05
ddaahere we have the failure on the very first revision, that is the first revision for this path in the repository12:06
ddaa(cscvs does not traverse branch copies and renames)12:06
ubotuNew bug: #140810 in malone "'this bug is a duplicate' mails are very confusing" [Undecided,New]  https://launchpad.net/bugs/14081012:06
Ceefour666ddaa: really? is it because 'trunk' didn't exist yet on revision 1 ?12:07
Ceefour666ceefour> svn log -v http://svn.rubyonrails.org/rails/ --limit 1 -r 112:07

ddaasvn log -v --stop-on-copy --limit 2 -r 1:HEAD http://svn.rubyonrails.org/rails/trunk12:10
ddaajelmer: this command works12:10
=== ddaa looks closer at the code
lifelessddaa: hpss is already integrated with apache12:11
lifelessddaa: we don't use http headers at all12:11
ddaagreat12:11
Ceefour666I'll try going to #subversion to see if somebody knows about this12:11
Ceefour666Google search didn't seem to come up with anything meaningful :(12:11
ddaamh12:12
ddaabc7513...12:12
ddaagot it12:14
ddaasvn log -v --stop-on-copy -r 1:HEAD http://svn.rubyonrails.org/rails/trunk > rail.log12:14
ddaathat reproduces it12:14
Ceefour666jelmer: do you know the exact HTTP command that resulted on it?12:14
Ceefour666This is interesting:  One more... I turned off deflate in Apache's config:  #Include /opt/csw/apache2/etc/includes/deflate.conf  and SVNX is happy again. Clearly SVNX doesn't like the compression. Anyone know how to turn it off just for the SVNX client?  Jamie     12:14
jelmerCeefour666: I mentioned it to you when we discussed it earlier12:14
Ceefour666From : http://forum.textdrive.com/viewtopic.php?id=1482212:14
Ceefour666Does bzr-svn accepts compressed responses ?12:15
jelmerCeefour666: Yes - bzr-svn uses the standard svn client library12:15
jelmerCeefour666, I was able to reproduce the error with standard "svn log"12:15
ddaaCeefour666: so was I12:16
ddaasvn log -v --stop-on-copy -r 1:HEAD http://svn.rubyonrails.org/rails/trunk12:16
Ceefour666http://forum.textdrive.com/viewtopic.php?id=14822 <-- this is a pretty recent forum, and still no resolution yet.12:16
Ceefour666jelmer: is it possible to make bzr-svn/svn to 'refuse' compressed responses?12:16
Ceefour666An old thread that says this from the server-side log:12:17
Ceefour666 [Tue Nov 15 17:26:59 2005]  [error]  [client xxxx]  Provider encountered an error while streaming a REPORT response.  [500, #0]  [Tue Nov 15 17:26:59 2005]  [error]  [client xxxx]  A failure occurred while driving the update report editor  [500, #190004] 12:17
Ceefour666http://lists.ez.no/pipermail/sdk-public/2005-November/001752.html12:17
jelmerCeefour666, that's all in the subversion client library12:17
Ceefour666this means the "bug" is not fixed for almost two years already12:18
jelmerCeefour666: try running "svn log -v http://svn.rubyonrails.org/rails/trunk"12:18
Ceefour666jelmer: yes I did12:18
=== Rinchen [n=joey@canonical/launchpad/pdpc.supporter.professional.rinchen] has joined #launchpad
ddaajelmer: presumably, the application could catch this specific error and then try retrieving the log in smaller and smaller chunks12:18
jelmerddaa: that should be handled by libsvn / libneon in that case then where bzr-svn is concerned12:19
jelmerddaa: same goes for launchpad I guess ?12:19
ddaayes12:20
ddaait's the first time I see this problem, so unless the powers that be decide it's important and urgent, we are not going to bend over backwards in Launchpad to work around this bug.12:20
Ceefour666jelmer: it seems related to MacOS X 10.4 servers: http://subversion.tigris.org/faq.html12:21
Ceefour666See: Why do I get occasional, seemingly inconsistent errors when checking     out over http:// from a repository running on MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger)?12:21
