solarbabyI'd like to hear the answer to that myself00:33
KillerKiwi2005lol00:34
solarbabyIf I were running a full Ubuntu Desktop theres a program called Sessions in the start menu and I'd use that.. but since Im not running Ubuntu Desktop I have no idea00:34
DaveMorrishttp://www.xfce.org/documentation/4.2/manuals/xfce4-session might do the job00:36
DaveMorrismight need installing as well00:36
solarbabyThanks Dave00:36
KillerKiwi2005.... dont think that does it.... i need to run a custom command00:38
solarbabyYeah it seems kinda up in the air there..  Im not sure if it just remembers stuff you have already loaded up or not00:40
solarbabyI wouldn't trust it00:40
KillerKiwi2005auch a common thing...00:41

solarbabyIm currently running in xfce and it is nice and fast, Im considering downloading gnome, but lets say I wanna switch back and forth.. can I do that in a matter of seconds?  would mythtv be effected by switching back and forth?01:25
tgm4883_laptopwell you could if you had different user names01:29

Suggleyi am not specificly sure - i am a bit of a linux noob02:28
tgm4883_laptopthats the point02:28
tgm4883_laptopwhere did you go wrong?02:28

Suggleyi tried so many times and i got to where to add capture devices - and it wouldnt add a thing02:28
Suggleyit could see teh 2 capture cards (sometimes - other times it renamed them) and i t just wouldnt add them to the list02:29
Suggleyi would be interested to try again on another hdd now i know a little more02:29
Suggleyi think it could have been the fireware - but i only really learnt about it after i installed mythbuntu02:29
KillerKiwi2005ARGGG nvtv in gutsy segfaults02:30
Suggleyi like the gnome desktop - but now once i log into the gnome desktop in Mythbuntu - and go to play a video - i get no responce from the keyboard02:30

KillerKiwi2005which script calls mythfrontend ?02:40
KillerKiwi2005actully nvtv needs root so I think I need it in the xsession...02:41
gibHow are is on screen color correction supposed to work with Xv controls enabled.  I can bring them up and toggle through the settings, but when I try to adjust the adjustment bars that pop up by using either the forward or back arrows it just changes to color/hue/ect.  -1% in place of the bar.02:43
gibThe adjustment boxes pop up fine with the F key, they just don't adjust--except for volume.02:47
KillerKiwi2005hmmm /usr/share/myhtbuntu/xsession.sh looks like a good place02:50
solarbabypacketgod: I love UbuntuMyth is much it exhausts me02:51

solarbabygib: agreed02:53
gibSo, do on-screen color adjustments work for you guys?02:53
solarbabyI've never tried them..  sounded like something I didn't want to tweak02:54
gibToggling F-Key to bring up different color adjustments, and <- -> to adjust bars?02:54
KillerKiwi2005ok so how do I add a module option at boot time?02:54
gibWell, my recordings are coming out too dark.02:55
gibIs there another way to adjust the recordings?02:55
solarbabyKillerKiwi: your out of my league pal02:55

gibAlso, I have another server for other things that's idle much of the time.  What's the best way to go about helping with transcoding, but not doing anything else--neither playing, nor recording, nor storing--not lending it's cpu to help with the transcode job log?02:57
gibOh, and are there other kind of filters other than noise and deinterlace filters, such as color-correction filters.  I having found anything like that googling.02:59
gibSomehow or another, I need to adjust the color of my recordings.02:59

Varkahi08:17
Varkaim trying to access mythweb with my configured username and password but i get "database access denied" all the time. what or where do i have to do additional configuration?08:19
gibfrank_, did you try applying a noise filter?08:19
Varkaim using mythbuntu 7.10 rc and configured it only with its configurationtools and setuproutines by now08:20
gibI haven't tried mythweb yet, but I assume it wants the backends sqlserver password, not you mybuntu login password.  Is that what you're giving it?08:22
Varkagib: i gave the same username and pw to both08:23
Varkagib: maybe i did something wrong configuring those logins, how can change them?08:23
gibOh, so you aren't using the autogenerated one, or using mythtv as you sqlserver login?08:24
gibMy guess would be that your regular name is not in the sql server.08:24
gibYou can always run backend setup again.08:25
gibOr run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-common."08:26
Varkagib: hm, and the mysqldatabaselogin is done in the backend setup?08:26
gibThe backend setup is where it takes the values to use for setting up a sql db.08:27
Varkagib: the strange thing is, if im using another user/pw combination than the one i configured i get a new empty logindialog but if i use the one i configured i get that "database access denied" page08:29
Varkagib: could it be that im login in but have not the rights to use mythweb by now?08:30
Varkagib: You are most likely receiving this message because you08:31
Varkahave failed to configure mythweb's database login info.08:31
VarkaPlease see .htaccess for instructions.08:31
gibCan you access that backend from other workstations using the regular front end interface?08:33
Varkagib: what would be the URL for the regular frontend?08:33
Varkagib: sry, now i know what you mean08:34
Varkagib: well i dont know as i dont have frontends installed on my other workstations by now08:34
gibThe regular front end assesses that backend sql-sever directly, not via the backend webserver, but it will tell you if the problem is with your sql-server login in general, or a problem with the web server accessing the sql-database08:35
Varkawell, using gutsy fresh install here, what would i have to install to have a working frontend to test that?08:36
gibJust the mythtv frontend package.08:36
Varkaok, installing..08:37
gibWhen you install it just replace localhost with the ip of your backend server and the username with your backend servers sql username, and password.08:37
gibAnd make sure you don't have sql-server access firewalled off on the backend.08:38
Varka If you are adding this machine to an existing mythtv-network, you will want to update this password to the one in use by the network after completing installation.08:39
Varkashould i change the pw already to the on i gave the backend?08:40
gibYes08:40
giband the username, and change localhost to the other machines IP08:40
Varkaall that by running: sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-common    right?08:41
gibThat's one way.08:42
Varkalol, it says, mythtv-common ist not installed oO08:42
gibYou can also go into util/setup general and change it.08:43
gibDid you launch myth front end?08:44
Varkanot yet, i have to relogin, brb08:44
gibIf so, just go into setup/general and make the changes there.08:44
gibYou installed mythtv-frontend and it didn't automatically pull mythtv-common in as a dep?08:47
Varkagib: well it did, but the dpkg-reconfigure command says its not installed08:47
Varkai started the frontend for testing an was prompted to fill in the login and host, did it but could not connect to my backend08:48
gibOh.  Just run mythtv-frontend, go to util/setup -> general and make the changes there.08:48
Varkaso i think the problem lies still at the backend08:49
gibSeem like the username your using really wasn't added as a sql-server user.08:49
gibyou're08:49
Varkaok, now, what command to use to configure that at the backend again please?08:50
gibJust run the backend setup program08:51
Varkagib: did that already, 3 times, and changed user and pw, but no success08:51
gibWhy not try sticking with the defaults then.08:52
gibIf you use mythtv you won't have to wonder if it got added right.08:53
giband use the default password too.08:53
Varkafirst i dont know the defaults, second im sure i changed them, third the backend is exposed to the www08:54
gibIt says it generates the password randomly, but it doesn't say if you change it it will change it on the backend, only that if you already have another server you want to access you should use it's password.08:55
Varkasure, sure, but what use would the randomly on the frontend of another workstation generated pw have accessing my backend on the server08:56
gibI assume you don't have to use port 80, nor have the port you choose open to the Internet.08:56
Varkawell, im pretty sure now, that username and pw are correct, at backend and frontend. at least for the mythweb, but it seems the problem lies beneath08:58
gibI think just entering a different password into front-end setup doesn't change you pw in sql server.08:58
gibIt's asking you what it IS, not what you'd like to change it too.08:59
gibto08:59
Varkasure it doesnt, but i changed the pw with the settings-gui form mythbuntu again and now also a Xth time with sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythweb09:00
Varkaon the backend09:01
gibThen again, I'm sleepy, and no expert in this area.  I'm just pretty sure that it would be a whole lot easier to go with the default and verify that everything is working, and then change them later if you like.09:01
Varkamaybe, but thats too late, as i changed the defaults already...09:02
Varkabut thank you anyway for your patience09:02
gibThe default password is randomly generated, so I'm not sure why it would be less secure they one you choose yourself.09:03
Varkathe installationprocedure of mythbuntu doesnt tell me anything about a randomly generated pw, how could i know09:04
gibThat's OK.  I'm sure there are a lot of people more qualified to help you out, but I seem to be the only one up at the moment.  :)09:04
gibGood luck.09:04
Varkain fact it forces me to type in a personal logindata09:04
Varkayeah, well, its saturday morning .. ;)09:05

gibWow, that 's good.  It's cable?09:09
Varkadsl2+09:09
gibWhat do you pay a month for that?09:09
Varkawith phoneflat and lower mobile call prices 49,- euro per month09:10
gibSounds like a great deal.  What country?09:10
Varkawell, there are cheaper ones, but less reliable and with p2p-ports shaped09:11
Varkagermany09:11
Varkaand you?09:11
gibUS09:12
Varkaand there are no cheaper providers in the us? cant believe that09:12
gibThe dollars been dropping like a rock.  Good thing I moved money into euro-based bonds.09:13
Varkain fact i heard that there are regions where you get your highspeed internet with you flat or house at a time for almost nothing09:14
gibWell, monopoly and no-regulation are the names of the game here now, so consumers get screwed.09:14
Varkaso aol is the monopolist?09:14
gibWell, most people have cable tv, but you pretty much are stuck with the cable provider who services your area, so they just keep jacking up the price.09:15
Varkaand phonebased internet?09:15
Varkanot available? to slow? to expensive?09:16
Varkatoo09:16
gibYou can get dsl, but I don't think tv over the phone is too common, so you still have to deal with that.09:16
Varkahm, sad09:17
Varkafor about 70 euro you can get 25mbit here in most bigger towns09:17
gibIf you get PO'd at your cable provider you have to get sat tv.09:17
gibThe dollar is dropping so fast against the euro that American won't be able to afford to travel to europe.09:18
Varkawell, i prefer sat-tv as you have now additional costs per month and more channels and the signal bandwith is much higher with 4 to 8 mbit compared to 2 mbit on cable as it is here09:18
Varkanow=no09:19
gibWe have a raving lunitic borrowing money like mad from China to flush down the Iraq toliet.09:19
gibIt's little wonder the dollar is dropping.09:19
Varkahehe, i wont continue the discussion in that direction as i would take ages to tell you what i think about us politics ^^09:20
gibIt'd pretty f'd up, that's for sure.09:20
gibI guess being from Germany, you know a thing or two about fascism.  The so-called neo-cons is charge are pretty much neo-fascists.09:21
Varkasure, but germans are the one to be blamed all the time, as if we are the only ones that killed other people to get more land, money, slaves or whatever in the past...09:23
Varkano word about the black people, the native americans...09:23
Varkaand the are opressing them on to the present day09:24
Varkabut we are the bad ones for eternity09:25
gibWell, GW's Grandpa was a nazi.  No one ever talks about that.  There are about 30% of people in every country that are just strongly drawn to authoritrianism, it's certainly not unique to Germany.09:25
gibThe US is one of the most right-wing countries in the world at this time.09:26
Varkathats right, in fact, a lot of nacism went to other countrys as the second ww ended09:26
gibOr at least the current "leadership."09:26
gibHe wasn't a nazi proper, but a good bubby trading partner sympathizer.09:27
gibAnd his family are still strong believers in athoritarianism.09:28
Varkaas the majority of them is, and thats the more dangerous group as they are intelligent and not only blind followers that want to take part in a strong group09:29
tritiumPlease stay on topic.09:29

Varkatritium: i used username and pw all the same at every point the setup asked me to fill in any09:32
tritiumI'm not sure how mythbuntu goes about setting it up.  I've always installed the mythweb package manually.09:32
Varkatritium: it does09:32
gibGoodnight, and good luck.  I should have gone to bed a long time ago.09:32
Varkatritium: trying to access mythweb with http://localhost/mythweb or remotely from another host i get "database access denied" if i fill in the username and pw i configured09:33
Varkatritium: but if i fill in another one i get another empty login dialog09:33
Varkaso i think the username and pw for mythweb is right but i dont have the right to access the database with it09:34
Varkaany ideas?09:34
tritiumVarka: not sure what mythbuntu is doing there.  I had to restrict access, as it was open to the world after installing the package.09:34
Varkai did "sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythweb" already and reentered the username and pw09:34
Varkatritium: where could i have a look now? what could be restricted?09:35
Varkatritium: i think its the mysql-database beneath that doesnt let me connect09:35
tritiumVarka: not sure.  I've not tried mythbuntu yet.  I'm waiting for it to be released.09:36
Varkatritium: but it uses the same backendprograms like you installed manually09:36
tritiumVarka: I had to create a .htdigest file to restrict access.09:36
tritiumVarka: yes, but it's setting up access differently09:36
Varkatritium: where do i find that file if it exists? and if it doesnt, what other file could restrict access?09:37
tritiumVarka: it doesn't exist.  I had to create it in /var/www/mythweb09:37
Varkalet me see if it exists on my setup09:37
tritiumVarka: also, check your /var/www/mythweb/.htaccess (symlink to /etc/mythtv/mythweb-htaccess)09:38
Varkayes, there is no .htdigest but the .htaccess and .htaccess.dist09:39
tritiumVarka: correct.  I created the .htdigest09:40
Varkatritium: ok, there was another randonly generated login in the .htaccess. i filled in the one i gave mythbuntu while installing it. restarting now. maybe thats all09:43
tritiumVarka: hopefully so09:43
Varkano, no success09:44
tritiumNot sure, then.09:44
Varkacould it be something with the userrights or so?09:45

tgm4883zerodamage, looks like you can only watch live TV, but no recording.  This is as of march this year16:43
tgm4883err may16:44

tgm4883i'm not sure if any progress has been made in gutsy16:45
zerodamagetgm4883:  I am new to mythtv; how do I go about watching tv?  I do not see anything that says "watch tv" or anything similar to that.16:45
tgm4883or if it's any better due to the better ati drivers16:45
tgm4883zerodamage, see both links i provided you16:46
zerodamagethx, that's all I needed to know.  I will hit up bestbuy later for a pvr 15016:48
stothhey folks16:48
tgm4883zerodamage, good call, great card16:48
tgm4883$ask16:49
mythbotAlthough I didn't know, ubotu says: Don't ask to ask a question. Just ask your question :)16:49
stothI'm a linuxtv dev, who's only recently tried to bring up mythtv on a spare box. I have some issues with the guide/channel association. Is anyone free to discuss?16:49
zerodamagethe pvr 150 is hardware encoding right?  my system here isn't a dual core beast which is common place these days. lol16:50
tgm4883yes16:50
zerodamagecool.  thx fellas.  peace16:50
tgm4883stoth, i have a little bit16:50
tgm4883then it's release party time :)16:50
stothtgm4883: Thanks. I'm running it in the US with  QAM source. All the channels are channel (and are playing), and I've downloaded a guide from datadirect. But the guide shows 'Unknown' for all guide content..... Kinda like I need to associate my digital QAM channels to the specific DD schedule channels.16:51
tgm4883you mean SchedulesDirect?16:52
stothy16:52
tgm4883did you scan for channels, or download them from SD?16:52
stothscan16:52
tgm4883what tuner16:52
stothnew tuner... but for discussion sake assume a dvico QAM fusion 3.16:52
tgm4883k16:53
stothall channels play correctly.16:53
stothbut the guide downloads, but doesn;t seem to be 'connected' internally to the channels.16:53
tgm4883so the channels play right, they just dont have the data?16:53
stothy16:53
tgm4883k16:53
tgm4883couple things it could be16:53
stothI expected to see a channel mapping screen in mythtv-setup, but I don't see anything obvious that connects local digital channel X to schedulesdirect channel X.16:54
tgm48831)  the wrong lineup was selected in SD16:54
tgm48832)  Digital channels aren't being broadcast with the correct info16:54
tgm4883theres a way to fix this, but it's not exactly fun if you have lots of channels16:55
stoth1 is correct, 2 - possible, I would not expect SD to understand the proprietary digital format - hence I assumed I can manually map them.16:55
stothtgm4883: I'm all ears.16:55
tgm4883k16:55
tgm4883it's a pita, but you only have to do it once, you also will need a keyboard16:55
stothk16:56
tgm4883you'll have to manually enter the channelid for each channel16:56
tgm4883this is done in mythweb16:56
stothok. Is that the native web service built into the app? or an addon?16:56
tgm4883it's built into mythweb, which i believe is installed by default with the backend16:57
tgm4883you have to click on the key&wrench at the top16:57
tgm4883then mythtv channel info16:57
stothone sec16:57
tgm4883sec, i haven't done this in a long time16:58
stothI don't see the port listened in the myth-setup tool (frontend and backon on single machine btw)16:59
tgm4883are you going to17:01
tgm4883http://mythbackendip/mythweb17:01
stoth(hmm, wasn't installed by default on gutsy)17:01
tgm4883ok17:02
tgm4883can you go into MCC and install it?17:02
stothdoing apot-get now.17:02
tgm4883that works too17:02
stothbingo17:03
pike__wow 900 kB on torrent nice17:03
stothtgm4883: I can see the web page, a giant list of channels. Where do I get the xmltvid from?17:04
tgm4883sec17:05
superm1the xmltvid is found when you run mythfilldatabas17:06
superm1e17:06
stothI have the data loaded via mythfilldatabase, I mean is their an easy access mechanism to get the xml channel name and id?17:07
Davieysuperm1: what country are you in?17:07
superm1stoth, if the call sign for the channel and the channel number don't match up to what SD expects, it won't populate right17:10
superm1so you need to update those17:10
williammanda__http://pastebin.ca/74359117:10
williammanda__this is what i get in terminal17:10
stothsuperm1: That's what I'm trying to do, but I don't understand where I get the callsign from (or even whether that's technicall known as the xmltvid)17:11
superm1stoth, ah17:11
superm1stoth, when you log into schedules direct17:11
superm1its what the network is called17:11
superm1like KDSM17:12
superm1or something like that17:12
stothIn the channels listings table you mean?17:12
stoth(via sd)17:12
superm1yeah17:12
superm1alternatively, if that doesn't work for you tgm4883  has another solution17:12
stothahh, I see it.17:13
tgm4883right now it's being slow, but if you go to the zap2it.com website, and go into listings (picking your type of cable and everything)17:13
stothI have the new value associated, will I need to re-run mythfilldatabase?17:13
tgm4883then click on the channel (not a program on the channel17:13
tgm4883you'll get a link like this17:14
tgm4883http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCSGrid.do?stnNum=10424&lineupId=OR36517%3a-&zipcode=97304&channel=3&channelCnt=317:14
tgm4883stnNum= is the xmltvid17:14
tgm4883in this case17:14
tgm48831042417:14
tgm4883which is the portland CW17:14
stothI think I have that number from SD, it's showing me channel #, xmltvid then channel name17:14
stothOK. I have three xmltvid's (11331, 11705, 11259) mapped via mythweb for the right channels and saved.17:16
stothDo I need to re-run mythfilldtabase?17:16
stoth(ok, runnit it anyway)17:17
stoths/runnit/running/17:17
pike__so with myth the videos cannot be stored as flat files is that right?17:17
stothTADA! listings, cool. Thanks tgm4883, superm117:18
superm1stoth, which solution ended up working for you?17:18
superm1mine or tgm4883's17:18
stothI got the xmltvid from SD listings page, the keyed it manually via mythweb.17:19
superm1ok cool17:22
tgm4883ok, im out, release party time17:22
superm1cu17:23
Varkahi, i have mythbuntu 7.10 rc up and running and aktivated lan-access. i am able to connect to mythweb from other workstations but not to the backend with another frontend running on those other workstations17:25
stoththat's maybe a mysql security issue.17:28
stothcheck the hostnames and port numbers in mythtvsetup, may sure you're not using localhost.17:28
williammanda_what is the mythtv user password?17:32
superm1williammanda_, it's generated randomly17:47
superm1williammanda_, you dont run things as the mythtv user in mythbuntu though17:47
superm1its all done as normal user17:47
williammanda_well...i understand....but i couldn't get mythbuntu to work earlier....17:48
williammanda_control center wouldn't start17:49
williammanda_so i loaded myth the old way17:49
williammanda_and still couldn't get mythtv-setup to work17:49
williammanda_i'm a member of mythtv group.....haven't ever had this problem17:50
williammanda_so i thought i would try to logon as mythtv and run mythtv-setup17:50
williammanda_tgm said there was a problem with the 64 bit17:52
superm1williammanda_, yeah its a 64 bit problem.  there is a new deb on the ubuntu forums17:53
superm1for mythbuntu17:53
superm1that resolves the 64 bit issue17:53
williammanda_is that installed after mythbuntu?17:54
superm1williammanda_, it will be for monday's release17:55
superm1and i'm pushing it to the archives -proposed section right now17:55
superm1williammanda_, see this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=58055317:57
williammanda_got it17:58
williammanda_i'm getting the same result18:16
williammanda_with mythbuntu....18:16
williammanda_kicks me out of mythtv setup18:16
superm1kicks you out?18:17
superm1what do you mean?18:17
williammanda_do i need to re-install mysql?18:17
williammanda_upon starting mythtv setup....18:18
superm1where are you starting it from?18:18
williammanda_i only get through the 3 blue screens18:18
superm1oh mysql user issue.....18:18
williammanda_whether using mythbuntu or regular myth install18:18
superm1do you have ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt ?18:18
superm1if so - get rid of it...18:18
williammanda_nope18:19
superm1okay did you change the mysql password for the mythtv user?18:19
williammanda_nope18:19
superm1okay is mysqld running?18:20
superm1can you check?18:20
williammanda_not sure18:20
superm1ps aux | grep mysql will show you18:20
williammanda__http://pastebin.ca/74366118:23
williammanda_i haven't used this before....not sure what it is telling me18:24
superm1yeah its running18:24
superm1okay hm.18:26
superm1wait so your doing this as root18:27
williammanda__should i do this?18:27
williammanda__UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('mythtv') WHERE user='mythtv';18:27
superm1check for a /root/.mythtv/mysql.txt then18:27
superm1well that is an alternate way to go about things18:27
superm1should we not be able to figure out why the random password isn't working, reseting it is a soltuion18:28
williammanda__nothing in root18:28
superm1can you launch it as your normal user?18:29
williammanda__ok i'll try18:30
williammanda__i'm confused...running ps aux | grep mysql as a normal user?18:32
superm1no i mean mythtv-setup18:34
sorenWhat do I need to do to make xmltv configuration show up in mythtv-setup in the sources setup?18:34
superm1soren, the RC had a bug that xmltv didn't install via ubiquity18:34
superm1soren, so after installation, install it via apt18:34
sorensuperm1: Ah, so just install xmltv and it will show up?18:34
superm1soren, and then it will show up18:34
superm1yeah18:34
williammanda__i did run mythtv setup as a normal user18:34
superm1williammanda_, then it is sounding more like you'll want to reset that password.  i'm not sure how you got to this situation.  be sure to update the password in /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt after you reset it18:35
williammanda__i just used a superuser terminal for grep18:35
superm1o18:35
sorensuperm1: Ok, thanks.18:35
williammanda__mythtv setup was lanuched through control center18:35
superm1williammanda_, ook18:36
superm1soren, no prob.18:37
reclusivemonke2has anyone heard of any successes with the soungraph iMON pad remote?18:38
williammanda__?18:52
williammanda__william@C2D:~$ UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('mythtv') WHERE user='mythtv';18:52
williammanda__bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('18:52
williammanda__i get this error when running this command18:52
MythbuntuGuest76hi I'm installing mythbuntu now and was wondering if xfs and /var/lib is the prefered partitioning?18:55
williammanda_xfs is yes18:58
MythbuntuGuest76i did read /var/lib/mythtv somewhere, is that where storage is now?18:59
williammanda_the location is defined during the setup process19:00
williammanda_it has a default...but you can enter any location19:00
MythbuntuGuest76ok but what is the default?19:00
williammanda_i don't remember19:01
MythbuntuGuest76default is often better when upgrades come around19:01
MythbuntuGuest76ok i go with /var/lib that I've been using all the time before then i guess19:01
MythbuntuGuest76thank you19:02
williammanda__ok...i'm stuck19:04
williammanda__i can't get past this error message...19:05
williammanda__root@C2D:/home/william# UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('mythtv') WHERE user='mythtv';19:05
williammanda__bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('19:05
pike_why ()? in bash youd either '' or if you wan t() then \('mythtv'\) right?19:06
sorenwilliammanda__: You need to do that in mysql, not in a prompt.19:07
williammanda__soren how do i do that?19:08
williammanda__i'm just following a guide19:09
williammanda__mysql -u root mysql19:10
williammanda__?19:10
superm1williammanda_, those are supposed to be issued in a mysql client19:10
pike_closest ive come to db exp is sqltools on a windows oracle box so im expecting myth to be an experience :)19:11
superm1in the ideal situation none of this would have come up19:13
williammanda__i'm still lost.....how do i start mysql client to enter the command?19:14
superm1mysql -u root mysql19:14
superm1and then type that command you have there19:15
williammanda__root@C2D:/home/william# mysql -u root mysql19:15
williammanda__ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)19:15

williammanda__am i doing something wrong?19:16
superm1MythbuntuGuest76, yes we have our own theme, and bug fixes19:16
superm1williammanda_, do you have a root password set?19:16
superm1for mysql?19:16
williammanda__no19:16
williammanda__no password19:17
superm1williammanda_, well it's sure sounding like you do19:17
MythbuntuGuest76superm1 I'll get that theme with updates later right?19:17
superm1MythbuntuGuest76, unfortunately not.  I can point you at the deb for it though.19:17
superm1MythbuntuGuest76, its not part of the ubuntu archives19:17
williammanda__would it be easier for me to uninstall mysql & mythtv and start over?19:17
superm1since it was a last minute decision to add19:18
superm1williammanda_, at this point yes.19:18
superm1williammanda_, be sure to *purge*19:18
superm1mysql19:18
williammanda__great ty19:18

superm1the other big bug fixes are in the installer anyhow though19:23
superm1so they won't be applicable19:23
toorimaok19:23

superm1it's been fun :)19:24
toorimayeah projects like this must be a lot of fun19:24
troy_sfoxbuntu: Ok... so in prep for that 26th21:24
troy_sfoxbuntu: I have more or less gotten a palette in place with the crest21:24
troy_sfoxbuntu: I am going to rest on it and see if it feels right after the rest.21:24
troy_sfoxbuntu: Then I'll ship it to you for final approval...21:24
troy_sfoxbuntu: Been trying to get the usplash into a more polished state obviously... how goes things with the flowchart?  PM when you are around.21:25
jfg_Am I better install mythbuntu choosing my whole 500Gb Hard Disk from the start or leave as installer advise half of it free? I'm new to Linux from OS X, installed, upgraded Mythbuntu with its three Desktop environments; my Home Directory is practically full with music. What should I do?21:30
jfg_I mean, there is a Linux utility to repartition disk and/or repertories... Is that not what I should now use?21:32
r0b-can someone help me?21:43
r0b-mythtv wont connect to my MySQL server21:43

superm1jfg_, yeah it was22:42
superm1DaveMorris> jfg_: your best to use the whole of the drive22:42
superm1<DaveMorris> it may have defaulted to using a fraction if it detected an OS already installed on there22:42
superm1<DaveMorris> actually22:42
superm1<DaveMorris> wait22:42
superm1<DaveMorris> have you already installed mythbuntu?22:42
jfg_Yes I have.22:44
superm1you can use gparted to resize things as necessary22:44
jfg_Is there no mean to alter disk partition otherwise with a utility?22:44
superm1yeah: gparted :)22:44
superm1you can boot off of a live disk to use it22:44
superm1since it won't work on a live filesystem22:44
superm1live meaning mounted22:45
jfg_It doesn't work. I fear I'll have to reinstall.22:47
jfg_There's something already on the empty partition. Utility quit when I unmount this free partition, quite curiously...22:48
DaveMorrisyou can also mount the unused 1/2 as a separate partition and use that for all your recordings, and the other 1/2 for the os and your music22:49
jfg_yeah, indeed but I'd rather have a proper installation from the start, though22:50
DaveMorriscopy your muisc of 1st, then install using it all, and then copy it back22:50
superm1jfg_, why doesnt gparted work?22:50
* DaveMorris off to bed22:50
superm1night DaveMorris22:51
superm1did you push your changes?22:51
superm1(or did you have more )22:51
jfg_it quits or crashes when I unmount the free partition, is it not possible?22:51
jfg_the "free" partition just wouldn't unmount...22:52
jfg_gparted shows it not all free too. There's 6Gb of it used on 234.22:53
superm1jfg_, you're doing this on a live cd right?22:53
superm1not on the live system22:54
jfg_I'll reinstall, there's surely matter for it.22:54
jfg_What about LVM? Is it available with Mythbuntu?22:55
superm1jfg_, if you want to do lvm, leave the partition unmade22:55
superm1you can do it post install22:55
jfg_allright22:56
jfg_I go and see on Ubuntu documentation then for LVM. The problem should be solved, thanks.22:57
superm1good luck :)22:58
