jamesstansell | panosru: are you using 32bit or 64bit? | 14:01 |
panosru | 64 | 14:01 |
jamesstansell | sun-java6-plugin doesn't have a 64 bit version | 14:03 |
jamesstansell | I've heard it's possible to use the 32bit, but I'd have to refer you to help.ubuntu.com for that | 14:03 |
panosru | ok i will try something else then :/ | 14:04 |
jamesstansell | Or, if you like to experiment, there's a package with a name similar to icedtea-java7-plugin that's said to have a 64bit version | 14:05 |
panosru | i tried icedtea | 14:05 |
panosru | but it not work too | 14:05 |
panosru | :/ | 14:05 |
panosru | i'm also working on eclipse platform for develop and i need sun-java | 14:06 |
* jamesstansell has stayed away from 64bit so far because of issues like this | 14:07 | |
panosru | 64bit system is about 30% faster of an 32bit system | 14:09 |

dpml | Have just completed an install of icedtea and I'm trying to figure out how to configure things so that I can install Ant 1.7.0. I see the ubuntu package description at http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/devel/ant ... however 'aptitude show ant' list version 1.6. Presumably I need to update my software sources to include the devel content - is that correct? If so what should by deb statement look like? | 22:56 |
jstansel_ | https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ant/ also shows 1.7.0 | 23:14 |
jstansel_ | ant is in main? | 23:15 |
jstansel_ | dpml: what does "apt-cache madison ant" show? | 23:17 |
dpml | umm - so it does | 23:17 |
dpml | ant | 1.7.0-3 | http://ftp.iinet.net.au gutsy/main Packages | 23:18 |
dpml | ant | 1.7.0-3 | http://ftp.iinet.net.au gutsy/main Sources | 23:18 |
dpml | Looks like I've been seeing things. | 23:19 |
* jstansel_ nods | 23:19 | |
dpml | ok - I'll continue - thanks | 23:20 |
jstansel_ | you're welcome :) | 23:21 |
dpml | Is there some documentation somewhere on the overall logic of java-based product packaging best practice for ubuntu? | 23:44 |
dpml | p.s. ant 1.7.0 install successfully | 23:44 |
dpml | s/install/installed | 23:44 |
dpml | Have just located http://blogs.sun.com/tmarble/resource/FOSDEM-2007/FOSDEM-2007-Debian-Ubuntu.pdf ... reading now. | 23:46 |
