therethinker$mythbot00:43
mythbotHi! I know a lot about MythTV! I can also do things like look stuff up on wikipedia. To see what I know, use $. To learn more about me, say $help.00:43
therethinker*gasp*00:43
therethinkerIts alive!?! How'd that happen00:43
directhexit's a quantum bot00:44
directhexat any moment, it is both functional and broken00:44
therethinkerHeh00:45
therethinkerI'm truly surprised its alive00:45
therethinkerThe "angelbot" is even dead >_>00:45
tgm4883Woohoo for 20,00000:46
therethinkerDownloads?00:47
therethinker(I'm not coming back, I just wanted to try to keep mythbot alive :P00:48
rhpot1991anyone ever have any problems with hard drives running real slow?00:49
rhpot1991Timing buffered disk reads:   26 MB in  3.27 seconds =   7.95 MB/sec00:49
tgm4883mine run slow00:49
rhpot1991its strange, that is a PATA but ubuntu is giving it sda00:49
solarbabymy system boots up in less then a minute00:50
rhpot1991so I can't do anything with hdparm00:50
solarbabyso I figure my hard drive speed is fine00:50
rhpot1991but on my other box I have 3 drives:00:50
tgm4883rhpot1991, use sdparm00:50
rhpot1991PATA there is ~40, one SATA is ~40 and another SATA is ~6000:50
rhpot1991sdparm doesn't seem to be of any help, I can't find any way tof enabling 32bit IO with it00:51
rhpot1991and dma is already enabled on that slow drive00:51
rhpot1991also the slower sata is 16bit IO, and the faster one is 3200:52
mythbotAlthough I didn't know, ubotu says: pong is an old atari game. It's fun!00:53
therethinker(ignore that)00:53
therethinkerbye, again!00:53
rhpot1991tmg4883: do you know that sdparm can actually do that?00:55
rhpot1991I keep seeing people randomly saying use sdparm, but there is no documentation saying it can do that, and nothing but a random "use sdparm" then a dead thread00:56
tritiumwhere does mythtv keep logs of why it deletes recorded programs, etc.01:01
tritium?01:01
MythbuntuGuest66drive partitioning quick cd 7.10 question01:30
tgm4883$ask01:30
mythbotAlthough I didn't know, ubotu says: Don't ask to ask a question. Just ask your question :)01:31
MythbuntuGuest66i have 2 drives, 120 ide, 320 ide, I want to lvm both, whats the best way to install.01:31
MythbuntuGuest66a new system, nothing on the system yet01:32
tgm4883hmm01:32
tgm4883do you know how to setup LVM from the command line?01:32
MythbuntuGuest66i installed the first time using the defaul, second time, use the "entire disk" selection. and set up a lvm .01:33
MythbuntuGuest66but not sure if this is the best way. I was thinking the os on a 50 gig partition, and the "storage" for music, shows, dvds, on the lvm01:33
MythbuntuGuest66i really like the this distribution better than mythdora01:34
tgm4883whoa01:34
tgm4883is this just a standalone frontend/backend?01:34
MythbuntuGuest66yes,01:34
tgm4883ok01:34
tgm488350 gigs is way too much01:34
MythbuntuGuest66so like 20 gig for the os? and rest for lvm storage stuff?01:35
tgm4883i'd do 15GB for /, 1GB for swap, and the rest for storage01:35
MythbuntuGuest66k01:35
MythbuntuGuest66i like that.01:35
tgm4883IMO, 15 is too much too, but i wouldn't quabble over that01:36
rhpot1991tmg4883: see what I asked about sdparm?01:36
tgm4883no01:36
tgm4883probably cause my name is tgm4883, not tmg488301:36
MythbuntuGuest66so sounds like a custom install, and then do a manual lvm create for the "storage,01:36
rhpot1991I haven't seen any evidence that sdparm can change IO to 32bit01:36
tgm4883so your comment doesn't get lit up01:36
rhpot1991I read the man and scoured the internet, just a bunch of "use sdparm" threads that are all dead ends01:36
tgm4883rhpot1991, i'll admit, thats where I saw it too.  I just figured that sdparm was the scsi version of hdparm01:37
rhpot1991its apparently similiar, but not the same01:37
rhpot1991and my bad about the name01:37
rhpot1991odly, I rebooted that box that was under 10mb/s01:37
rhpot1991and its just under 40 now01:38
morphinexMythbuntuGuest66: I think that some filesystems can't be expanded/shrunk, so you might want to consider that too01:38
tgm4883rhpot1991, dont' worry about the name.  Just remember it in the future if you want a quicker answer :)01:38
rhpot1991LVM is the way to go01:38
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest66, i'd setup a command line only system, then setup LVM, then install mythbuntu01:39
MythbuntuGuest66thx morph. i did like how mythdora created the lvm on the install01:39
MythbuntuGuest66is the ubuntu distro going to include this in the future for lvm?01:39
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest66, It will be in the alternate installer01:39
MythbuntuGuest66? whats alternate installer?01:40
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest66, did Mythdora use a graphical installer or a text installer?01:40
MythbuntuGuest66gui01:40
tgm4883text01:40
morphinexMythbuntuGuest66: yeah, fedora handles that better, but what can you do01:40
MythbuntuGuest66ahh. ok.01:41
MythbuntuGuest66has anyone ported the late mythtivo plugin to the latest mythtv ? I really like that plugin.01:41
morphinexI'm pretty sure you can expand and shrink ext3, but I don't know about, say, jfs or xfs01:42
MythbuntuGuest66would be really nice to have included in the distro01:42
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest66, officially no01:42
rhpot1991damn01:42
rhpot1991on my dual sata box01:42
rhpot1991I swapped the sata plugs01:42
rhpot1991and apparenlty the 2nd port pulls 60, but the first only pulls 4001:42
rhpot1991ever see anything like that before?01:43
rhpot1991I'd imagine they would both be using the same driver01:44
tgm4883rhpot1991, bios setting maybe?01:44
rhpot1991what kind of setting are you thinking?01:44
tgm4883idk, i know there are a few setting though for that sort of thing.  Maybe one that limits speed?  Or a legacy mode?01:45
rhpot1991I'll poke around01:45
MythbuntuGuest66tmg, im installing it again, ill give it a whirl01:51
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest66, well if you can set it up from the command line, (and want to do it that way), you will need a different disk to install the command line system01:54
rhpot1991hmmm apparently one of these are randomly in a striped raid array by itself01:55
rhpot1991and the other is free01:55
tgm4883strange01:55
* rhpot1991 wonders how that happened01:55
rhpot1991they are both in an LVM01:55
rhpot1991so its not like I need a raid array01:55
rhpot1991got a recording coming up so this has to hold on now01:57
rhpot1991think bad things will happen to my data if I delete that raid array?01:58
* tgm4883 shrugs01:59
rhpot1991there isn't any overhead of being the first HD in a LVM right?02:00
tgm4883i don't *think* anything bad will happen, but im not sure.  I think you should look for a more firm answer if your worried about your data02:00
rhpot1991this is going to be one of those nights where I break something and stay up till 4am fixing it02:00
tgm4883I live for those nights :)02:01
tgm4883I've learned more about computer by breaking them then I ever did in any class :)02:01
rhpot1991completely agreed02:01
rhpot1991do you run a LVM?02:01
tgm4883not anymore02:01
MythbuntuGuest66is there a gui LVM and Partition Manager available? is it worth running02:02
rhpot1991I recall words about running LVM inside a raid array, not sure what course I should go with my screwed up system now02:03
rhpot1991MythbuntuGuest66: I've only ever used the ubuntu alternate install cd for LVM02:03
tgm4883MythbuntuGuest66, the only one I know of (and use) is webmin. And I use that on my backend system02:03
tgm4883err02:03
tgm4883on my slave backend which is also a fileserver02:04
tgm4883it has a lvm module, but I dont use it anymore02:04
MythbuntuGuest66question, is webmin installed by default? or does it have to be added?02:05
MythbuntuGuest66next q, laternate install cd ? where do you get it?02:05
tgm4883webmin is available in a .deb from webmin.com02:07
tgm4883and the alternate cd i speak of is the Ubuntu Alternate cd, and it is available from Ubuntu.com02:07
rhpot1991http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download02:08
rhpot1991there is a checkbox saying:02:08
rhpot1991Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD. This CD does not include the Live CD, instead it uses a text-based installer.02:08
tgm4883and im not sure, maybe rhpot1991 can help with this02:08
tgm4883rhpot1991, does the alternate CD install and setup LVM for you?02:08
rhpot1991it can02:09
rhpot1991if you tell it to02:09
tgm4883hmm02:09
tgm4883so you might not even need webmin02:09
rhpot1991well you kinda have to guide it, IIRC02:09
rhpot1991you need to create the LVM, then add drives to it02:09
rhpot1991fairly straight forward02:09
tgm4883yep.  Sounds the same as webmin02:09
rhpot1991there are some words here:02:10
tgm4883so i think i would just do it from that cd.02:10
rhpot1991http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/LVM_on_RAID02:10
rhpot1991if you already have a working system02:10
tgm4883no need to install software you don't need02:10
rhpot1991just ignore the raid stuff02:10
chuk1does mythbackend.log get purged at any point?03:24
tgm4883chuk1, i belive it only keeps a certain number of days03:27
chuk1thanks, any idea how/where that is handled?03:29
tgm4883nope :)03:32
levanderNewbie question.  What's the point of creating a separate distribution for MythTV when the myth packages are already in the Canonical archives?  Why not just jazz up the Myth installation when you install the packages?  Why do you need a separate distribution?03:50
superm1_levander, you realize that the development for all of this happens directly in the ubuntu archives03:51
superm1_and by the same folks who maintain mythtv in the archives....03:51
tgm4883:)03:51
levandersuperm1_: So, why have they split it out into a separate distribution?  Why don't they just play with their myth packages?03:52
superm1_the idea is to make it into an "appliance" setup, that is minimalistic and only installs the required items03:52
superm1_levander, "they" is me tgm4883 and a few others :)03:52
levandersuperm1_: Okay, I guess that part just doesn't apply to my specific situation.  But, that's a valid rationale.03:52
levanderI'm not saying it shouldn't be done this way, I'm just asking why it is.03:52
levanderSo, if I'm going to install xubuntu on my Myth box anyway, what's the advantage of installing Mythbuntu over Xubuntu?03:53
tgm4883levander, why release Ubuntu?  Just install Debian and the packages that you want :)03:53
superm1_levander, see that's the thing, you can go and add it to xubuntu03:53
superm1_look at mythbuntu.org/existing-ubuntu03:54
tgm4883better yet, why install Debian.  Install and compile every piece of software you will ever need :)03:54
tgm4883make your own distro03:54
tgm4883and rule the world03:54
tgm4883muhahahaha03:54
* tgm4883 has been programming stupid programs for too long today03:55
levanderSo, the difference between, say, Kubuntu and Mythbuntu is that the kubuntu-desktop package gets installed with Kubuntu, and the mythbuntu-desktop package gets installed with Mythbuntu?03:56
rhpot1991final vote before I destroy stff, will deleting a striped array with a single hard drive in it destroy data?03:56
levandertgm4883: chamoille tea or maybe just some Luna bars is what I do when I get in the mode I'm in.03:56
superm1_levander, yeah exactly03:56
superm1_levander, and you can "add" mythbuntu to an existing box03:57
tgm4883levander, pretty much.  Keep in mind those are meta-packages so the installed packages differ03:57
levandersuperm1_: exactly Luna bars, or exactly chamoille tea?03:57
tgm4883ie, mythbuntu doesn't install extra unneeeded items like overoffice03:57
superm1_the big advantages really do come in the installer though too03:57
superm1_you'll have to run it to see what we mean03:57
tgm4883superm1_, +103:57
tgm4883although the real pudding is MCC03:57
tgm4883mmmm pudding :)03:58
levanderOkay, I think I'm gonna go with Mythbuntu, there's a chance I'd want to get involved in development, and from what I've read, Mythbuntu is looking for more people...03:58
levanderWhat's MCC? Control Center?03:58
tgm4883mythbuntu-control-centre03:58
rhpot1991speaking of MCC, the optimize database checkbox, does that add the command to crontab or what?03:58
levandermcc gets installed when you install mythbuntu-desktop, right?03:58
rhpot1991I already had it in my user's crontab, and I'm not sure if I should comment it out or if they are pointing at the same thing03:59
tgm4883yes, although I believe the preferred way to install is to grab MCC, then select the type of system you want in that03:59
superm1_levander, yes we can use as much help as we can get03:59
superm1_our list of specs is starting to grow very large03:59
tgm4883very very large03:59
tgm4883cause there is just so many great ideas :)03:59
levandersuperm1_: Cool, I know python (which I understand a lot of myth is written in) and I'm definitely interested in Myth.  We'll see how much time I have after I've installed it and played with it awhile.04:00
superm1_tgm4883, i might propose a spec or two for UDS here, would you be able to call into it?04:00
superm1_levander, okay sounds good04:00
tgm4883call into what?04:00
superm1_into the UDS meeting04:00
tgm4883when?04:00
superm1_i'm not sure yet04:00
superm1_Daviey probably would be able to04:01
levandersuperm1_: Just while I'm mulling it over while I'm playing with it, what development skills are yall interested in?04:01
superm1_levander, python is the big one.04:01
levandersuperm1_: Any others?04:01
superm1_levander, but once you see the list of specs, you'll see that they aren't all python04:01
tgm4883superm1_, let me invite you to my calendar04:01
superm1_they reach over alot of areas04:01
levandersuperm1_: What UI libraries do yall use?  GTK? wxWindows?04:01
superm1_levander, as of right now its all pyGTK for the custom GUI stuff we do04:02
superm1_but at least one spec is goign to be leaning towards a more complex libmythui04:02
levanderI imagine I'd just be fixing bugs or rolling packages initally, so maybe worrying about what UI library is jumping ahead anyway.04:02
superm1_that is in use for general myth stuff04:02
superm1_levander, yeah get things working for yourself first (which hopefully shouldn't be much of trouble), and then you can join our dev meeting04:02
tgm4883superm1_, you should be able to see my google calendar now if you search for me04:02
levandersuperm1_: Would libmythui be written on top of PyGTK?04:02
superm1_actually that'd be really ideal04:02
superm1_our meeting is this upcoming sunday04:03
superm1_we're assigning specs and reviewing all the proposed specs and such04:03
tgm4883levander, FYI, next meeting is sunday04:03
levandersuperm1_: Maybe, it's something I'm interested in, I may lurk in the meeting..04:03
levanderHow often are the meetings?04:03
tgm4883levander, if you PM me your email, I can add you to the list for invites04:03
superm1_levander, libmythui is in C++ actually, it will take a very very large effort to do the thing we have planned for it too04:03
superm1_but we can discuss that later04:03
levandersuperm1_: Yall should write a paper or something, no way you're gonna get people interested if they don't have some place to look and see what the hell you're doing.  And yeah, I know C++, although it's been a few years since I've developed in it heavily.04:04
superm1_levander, yeah that's probably a good idea once we get all the specs sorted out to at least link to them in launchpad from our homepage04:05
superm1_we'll handle that during our meeting04:05
superm1_and cleaning up the "getting involved" page04:05
tgm4883superm1_, what time did we say the meeting was on sunday (in your time)04:05
tgm4883or my time04:05
superm1_tgm4883, whatever is on the calendar will be fine with me04:06
tgm4883ok04:06
superm1_i should be around all of sunday04:06
tgm4883it's 12:00pm sunday PST04:06
tgm4883so i'll shoot it out now04:06
levandersuperm1_: Mark Shuttleworth did a brilliant interview a few weeks ago where in one part they talk about what it takes to get people involved in an open source project: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/10/04/open_season_four_shuttleworth/04:06
rhpot1991superm1_: any interest in adding the export to ipod script to the contrib folder?  It works in ubuntu with slight modification04:07
levanderPST? Most of you guys are in California?04:07
tgm4883no04:07
tgm4883just me04:07
superm1_rhpot1991, there are some specs about an ipod setup already out there04:07
superm1_so yes :)04:07
rhpot1991got a link?04:07
superm1_tgm4883, you know its crazy that we got more visitors since release from alaska and hawaii than montana?04:07
superm1_that and colorado has exactly 404 visitors04:08
tgm4883well i don't think moose have internet access ;)04:08
levandertgm4883: I'm thinking I'm gonna go, but my current plans are just to lurk.  Get the drift of what's going on.04:08
superm1_levander, okay lurk in -dev actually if your gonna look for dev related stuff04:08
superm1_this is more for a user support channel04:08
superm1_i'm gonna get to bed though, gotta be up for another day of UDS tomorrow :)04:09
superm1_rhpot1991, blueprints.launchpad.net/mythbuntu04:09
superm1_its in there04:09
superm1_night all04:09
rhpot1991night04:09
tgm4883ok, i just sent the invite04:10
tgm4883apparently I didn't send any of the invites for that meeting04:10
tgm4883superm1_, dont' forget to set your clock back this weekend04:10
rhpot1991can I leave comments on the blueprint if I sign up?04:11
tgm4883i'm not sure how google calendar works that04:11
tgm4883yes04:11
rhpot1991I'll do that and post what I did, I just generate the video the scp it to a sever for a friend who flies a lot04:11
tgm4883therethinker, ping04:14
tgm4883rhpot1991, are you interested in development?  I can add you to the invite list to notify you of upcoming meetings and events04:16
rhpot1991I'd be interested, but I've never worked on any open source project before04:16
pcgluesuperm1_, tgm4883: are you guys mythtv developers?  or mythtv for ubuntu devs?04:17
tgm4883well i can always add you.  It's not like were going to cut off your index fingers if you decide against it04:17
tgm4883pcglue, mythtv for ubuntu04:17
tgm4883and mythbuntu04:17
rhpot1991heh, sure go ahead04:17
tgm4883pm me your email04:17
rhpot1991gotta register first it seems04:18
tgm4883yep04:18
tgm4883must register to pm04:18
tgm4883pcglue, are you looking for us or for mythtv devs?04:18
rhpot1991hmmm do you use bitchx by any chance?04:19
tgm4883xchat04:19
pcgluei think mythtv devs04:20
pcgluewell, i'm trying to get ivtv-fb working with gutsy04:20
tgm4883pcglue, did you have a question?04:20
pcglueI have a pvr-350 and have X working on its tv-out, but not playback04:20
rhpot1991get that tgm4883?04:21
tgm4883yep04:21
tgm4883sec04:21
rhpot1991pcglue: did you check the "use pvr350 for output" box?04:22
tgm4883ok, you should have an invite now04:22
pcgluerhpot1991, yes i did04:23
pcglueit says "Unable to initialize video" when I try to playback a recording or watch live TV04:23
superm1_pcglue, try installing ivtv-utils04:24
rhpot1991try to 'modprobe ivtv-fb' also04:24
rhpot1991then try to watch04:24
rhpot1991gonna have to do that as sudo04:24
superm1_although http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/users/36980 comes to mind04:25
superm1_so that may be the underlying issue04:25
superm1_if installing ivtv-utils doesn't solve the problem, then please post in the thread about this ongoing issue, and we can see about adding that patch.04:25
* superm1_ really goes to bed04:25
tgm4883nn04:26
rhpot1991I had my pvr350 outputting a few weeks back, but dumped it for an nvidia card04:26
pcgluei think ivtv-fb is already loaded, although i did the modprobe again04:27
pcglueand when i do lsmod, ivtv_fb shows up04:27
pcgluedoes that mean it's good?04:27
rhpot1991should be loaded then04:29
pcgluewhat does ivtv-utils do?  do I just install it or do I need to run something after?04:29
rhpot1991honestly not sure, I haven't played with it since feisty04:31
MythbuntuGuest63Hey.04:31
superm1_pcglue, just install it.  if it works great, if not i'm pushing that patch to my PPA right now.  please post in the bug with your results, and i'll give you the URL to the ppa tomorrow after its built if its necessary okay?04:31
* superm1_ really goes back to bug04:32
superm1_*bed04:32
pcgluesuperm1_: OK, thanks04:32
MythbuntuGuest63Hey04:37
=== MythbuntuGuest63 is now known as Duco
rhpot1991whats up?04:37
DucoI'm wodering04:37
DucoI have two hard drives- Could I add the second one, 60GB, and have recordings on BOTH?04:37
DucoI'd like to be able to extend it so I have more space.04:38
rhpot1991ya, LVM will allow the 2 to act as one04:38
rhpot1991!LVM04:38

rhpot1991looks like P for play06:05
DucoNihilumhuh?06:05

rhpot1991I'm not sure there is a button that says go to live tv06:06
DucoNihilumI know there is in the keyboard controlls.06:07
rhpot1991figure out what it is, and plug it in there06:07
DucoNihilumIt allows you to imput it.06:08

rhpot1991as far as your usb you should check with one of the mythbuntu guys and see if there is anything in place that should be auto mounting06:17
rhpot1991you can do it yourself, but you need to figure out what partition is on the drive and what device it will be, kinda a lot of work if you don't know what your doing06:18

DavieyDaveMorris: drop EIT use RT :)16:43
directhex|workDaviey, opens up its own problems16:43
Davieydirecthex|work: pretty much rock solid here16:44
directhex|workDaviey, such as, but not limited to: problems when multiple tuners have non-matching lineups; channels on freeview not being the same as the versions of those channels reported by RT (e.g. virgin1); the LARGE number of channels with no data e.g. radio16:44
samson-- < DaveMorris> I think my listings data is screwed.  It says I have listings until 1'st July 203716:45
samson--DaveMorris: cancel schedulesdirect subscription quick before they find out! ;)16:45
Davieydirecthex|work: yeah.. this is true - juski did start trying to look into a way of making it better16:46
Davieysamson--: we don't all live in the US :)16:46
directhex|worksome of us are too thin for that!16:46
samson--Daviey: curses16:46
kolbymy EIT doesn't work either :(16:49
kolbythe Satellite company said everything should work fine.  ...but I don't think they've used mythbuntu16:49
kolbycan I get EIT even though I'm using satellite connection?16:50
kolbywhat do you guys have?  Digital Cable or Satellite?17:05
rhpot1991good old analog for me17:09
kolbyrhpot1991:  you mean through the airwaves?17:16
rhpot1991kolby nah, just regular old cable17:22
rhpot1991comcast charges you for boxes here, and they are old and have terrible quality17:22
rhpot1991I had them replace the one in my office 3 times, would overheat at least once a week and then refuse to turn on for a day or so17:23
kolbywow.  That's gotta suck.  I need to figure out how to get cable working with my Satellite connection17:23
kolby....I meant EIT working with Satellite17:26
rhpot1991http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/EIT17:28
rhpot1991seems like it either works or it doesn't17:29
kolbyrhpot1991, ALRIGHT, i'LL GIVE IT A GO18:14
kolbydamn caps lock18:14
solarbabyCable TV through Satalite? Never heard of that18:26
kolbyI mistyped18:26
kolbyI meant EIT but I was reading rhpot1991's comment18:26
solarbabyoH..18:26
kolbyyups18:27
solarbabyFranky I never heard of EIT either, other then it being in the settings page18:27
MythbuntuGuest86hi all18:28
solarbabyHello18:28
MythbuntuGuest86i need some help, just install mythbuntu, but it wont work with my Geforce 6200 :-(18:28
solarbabyHave you checked through the Ubuntu forums?18:29
MythbuntuGuest86yes, so i should post a new thread instead of getting help here?18:29
solarbabyI didn't say that.. although specific hardware is always a Iffy thing on irc..  your lucky to find someone who has your hardware18:30
kolbyhuh...18:30
MythbuntuGuest86i see, the problem is the nvidia drivers18:31
kolbyyou're using Gutsy, right?18:31
solarbabydid you install with the generic drivers or did you try one of the others?18:31
MythbuntuGuest86with generic drivers its working, i can setup everything18:31
MythbuntuGuest86but tv is a slideshow...18:31
MythbuntuGuest86so everytime i install any nvidia driver (glx-new, glx-old) and restart, it will be black screen18:32
solarbabyOh..  maybe playing with recording settings..  if you record with lower quality that might help18:32
MythbuntuGuest86even tried envy18:32
solarbabybtw im just a average new user so Im guessing.18:33
solarbabyI do know spending lots of time in the forums have helped me greatly..18:33
kolbyyeah...  I know of a few things you could check if you haven't already18:33
MythbuntuGuest86really? what is it?18:34
kolbyin Utilities/Setup > Setup > TV Settings > Playback18:36
kolbythere should be a little checkbox that says: "Enable OpenGL Vertical sync for timing"18:37
MythbuntuGuest86yes i know that option, even if i cant try it out now18:38
kolbyI have _no idea_ if that will help, but it's worth a shot.  I turned it on for my  Geforce 5600, and it didn't hurt.18:38
kolbyokay18:38
MythbuntuGuest86i will try to deinstall the driver now, again18:39
MythbuntuGuest86i think its xorg related, cause i had the same problem with knoppmyth18:40
solarbabyI couldn't get passed partitioning my hard drive with Knoppmyth before it'd crash18:41
solarbabythen I used Mythbuntu and everything worked mostly pretty well18:41
solarbabyHowdy superm118:41
superm1hi18:42
Davieysolarbaby: hw is it going18:55
solarbabyDaviey: Thanks for asking..  Its going quite well with the Master backend, can't say its been easy getting the laptop going though ;)18:58
solarbabyDaviey: first I have to figure out why my wireless laptop is crashing when I try to play recordings.. Im thinking maybe im recording in such a huge file size its just crashing so im going to attack that route first..18:59
Daviey:)19:01
solarbabyConfirmed..  File size doesn't seem to have anything to do with it :(19:04
solarbabyMaybe its Samba19:05
solarbabythe strange thing is that it plays in a thumbnail just fine..19:06
solarbabymaybe the laptop doesn't like ffmpeg19:17
solarbabythis is very strange I remember it worked ok off the live cd..19:17

therethinkerhmm21:40
Davieysuperm1 was hiding the whole time21:40
therethinkerI think I should go back to allowing the manual rebooting...21:40
Davieytherethinker: is it mythbot, or your connection?21:40
therethinkerMythbot -- the other bot dies at different times21:41
therethinkerAww D:21:43
superm1of course i kick him right *AFTER* he leaves...21:43
superm1haha21:43

therethinkerBy the way: I don't know if you saw, he has an angel in #mythbot -- I'll explain in there if you want21:44
therethinkerits possible to manually reboot mythbot, so that should help21:44

therethinkeranyone who needs to know how to use it, please come :P21:48
keescooksuperm1: lirc> lots of changes to the whitespace in some of the patches.  I don't mind, but I'm just curious why.22:00
superm1keescook, because i opened up the patch to double check if there was anything to change in it mostly22:01
keescooksuperm1: but like, tabs vs spaces, { usage.  just odd22:02
superm1oh keescook that's my editor22:03
superm1geany has a setting that cleans that stuff up22:03
keescook+-22:03
keescook++22:03
superm1and changes tabs into spaces22:03
keescookheh22:03
superm1it is great for python stuff22:03
* keescook nods22:03
superm1but weird on other things i guess22:03
keescook-+static int sense = -1;   /* -1 = auto, 0 = active high, 1 = active low */22:04
keescook-+static int txsense = 0;   /* 0 = active high, 1 = active low */22:04
keescookand stuff like that...22:04
keescook++static int sense = -1;    /* -1 = auto, 0 = active high, 1 = active low */22:04
keescook++static int txsense;     /* 0 = active high, 1 = active low */22:04
keescookit's functionally identical, but I'm not clear on where the changes are coming from.22:04
keescookis it just general cleanups you're doing?22:05
superm1oh that stuff, that's how upstream changed it22:05
superm1that wasn't me directly22:05
superm1i had to meld that stuff into the lirc_serial_igor stuff22:06
keescookso it was an "upstream patch" change?22:07
superm1well yes and no.22:07
superm1let me try to describe22:07
superm1lirc_serial_igor is basically lirc_serial copied over22:07
superm1with some static changes22:07
superm1so that when its merged into linux-ubuntu-modules22:07
keescookaaah, so effectively your rebased it.  I get it.22:07
keescooks/your/you22:07
keescooknice.  I like all the "taken upstream" notes.  :)22:07
superm1it builds one with the serial and then the one with serial_igor22:07
superm1keescook, yeah they're pretty receptive to things22:08
superm1i submitted another 5 or 6 patches up today22:08
keescook:)22:08
superm1so hopefully most of the stuff in debian/patches will eventually not be necessary22:08
keescooksuperm1: cool.  Can you run your source.changes through "lintian -iI" and fix the non-Ubuntu-isms?  (debian-rules-ignores-make-clean-error, substvar-source-version-is-deprecated)  Beyond those, it looks great to me.22:14
superm1keescook, i've been reluctant to go through and fix some of those lintian things since there is that ever so impending big change from debian to grab on the packaging22:14
superm1keescook, to switch over to their's if they ever get it done22:14
superm1so do you think we should be permanently forked and i'll just go through all that?22:15
keescookwell, I think just those two errors should be easy to fix.22:15
superm1yeah22:15
keescookif they're not for some reason, I'm happy to skip it.22:15
* keescook goes afk again22:15
superm1okay thanks again kees22:16
superm1keescook, okay i uploaded it back to the same area on http://home.eng.iastate.edu/~superm1/lirc/lirc again with those changes.22:24
solarbabyAlright..  so by following some directions I got my Dell Latitude 610 to Play recordings with out crashing by editing the xorg.conf However, Even though I hear the sound the video is just a blue screen..  still haven't found mention of this in the forums yet23:06
directhexsolarbaby, a flat colored screen usually means an app is using Xv (overlay) mode to display the pictures, but your graphics driver isn't drawing the overlay layer properly23:43
solarbabyThats a good push in the right direction23:51
