bsdunixi am have question20:23
bsdunixwhich apache does ubuntu-server LAMP install option use? apache or apache2? both are installed here!20:24
mralphabetbsdunix: it should be apache220:25
bsdunixjaime@quixote:~$ ps aux | grep apache220:25
bsdunixjaime    17567  0.0  0.1   2828   752 pts/0    R+   15:24   0:00 grep apache220:25
bsdunixno20:25
bsdunixnot running now, at least20:25
bsdunixit is upgrading now. i was asked to chose20:26
bsdunixi chose apache20:26
bsdunix:(20:26
mralphabetwhat version of ubuntu?20:26
bsdunixmralphabet: thanks20:26
bsdunixumm 7.1, server... upgrading to 7.1020:27
mralphabetthere isn't 'really' a 7.1, there is 7.04 which is fiesty and 7.10 which is Gutsy20:28
bsdunixnot always running server kernel. most of the time, lately, my client's ecommerce has been outsourced20:28
bsdunixfiesty20:28
bsdunixfiesty-fawn, i think20:28
mralphabetyes20:28
mralphabetyou can look at packages.ubuntu.com for what packages are available for what version, but fiesty should be installing apache 2 I thought20:29
bsdunixthis is a friend's ibm i talked him into getting. i come by now to see he's not upgraded the simplest thing20:30
bsdunixjust a dual proc ecc ram scsi raid intellistation zpro20:30
mralphabetapache1 is available it looks like20:30
mralphabetapache - versatile, high-performance HTTP server20:31
mralphabetapache2 - Next generation, scalable, extendable web server20:31
bsdunixokay. updater told me (when i clicked on "help" in updater) only apache supported by php20:31
mralphabetupdater?20:32
bsdunixyes20:32
mralphabetah, you are running desktop?20:32
bsdunixya20:33
mralphabetk20:33
mralphabetapache2 runs fine with php20:33
bsdunixhe has been using it for LIMEWIRE!20:33
mralphabetlibapache2-mod-php5 - server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language (apache 2 module)20:34
mralphabet. . . I've seen smarter uses of a linux box20:34
bsdunixha ha20:34
bsdunixi like ubuntu. it was easy to jump in.20:36
bsdunixi have yet to discover the one thing or another that ALL linux distro's just HAVE to mess up20:36
bsdunixi left linux years ago after frustration with so many "standards"20:37
bsdunixFreeBSD at the time seemed more sane20:37
bsdunixhaven't really spent too much time with ubuntu, myself though20:38
bsdunixor kde. kde seems to have addressed their bloat and broken-ness20:38
mralphabetor hardware has finally surpassed the kde bloatware ;)20:40
bsdunix:). maybe both20:40
bsdunixah. now i see i'm actually using some ubuntu specific flavor of gdm20:42
bsdunixdpkg is apparently doing the upgrade for me now20:43
bsdunixokay. i see this is gonna take some hours > it's upgrading openoffice20:45
bsdunixtalk about bloatware20:45
mralphabetwhich is generally why people who do not like having the entire desktop system installed start with the server install disk and just install kde or gnome or whatever window manager on top of it if a window manager is required20:47
bsdunixit would have been nice, but this system has a bit of a task switching history. it is now a desktop - use thingy20:48
bsdunixi shine around often to work on a copy of the website20:49
* mralphabet shrugs20:49
bsdunixhoping to someday settle back into it's original task of webserver20:50
bsdunixthe experience has convinced us of how quick and robust ubuntu can be under even the most diverse scenarios20:50
bsdunixeasy, too20:51
fysafysave23:13
fysafysaIs kernel.shmmax compiled into the kernel in LTS?23:13
fysafysaHaving problems raising the shm size for eAccelerator above 32M23:13
Fryguy--hi guys, I'm running ubuntu server and noticed today my cpu spiking through the roof because of udevd.  I haven't changed anything that would cause this to happen.  searching around, the cause seems to possibly be related to evms, which I'm using for software raid, and have been, for months, without any issues.  What can I do to make udevd behave normally and without hogging cpu again?23:14
fysafysaroot@dries:/var/local/eaccelerator# sysctl kernel | grep shmmax23:14
fysafysakernel.shmmax = 6710886423:14
zulfysafysa: check the man page for sysctl23:14
fysafysawas able to raise it there and added it to sysctl.conf ..23:15
fysafysais there something I need to reload/sighup to have this take effect?23:15
zuli think you might have to reload your network scripts23:15
fysafysaaha23:17
fysafysahad to sysctl -w instead of echo > ..23:17
fysafysathanks.23:17
