clayboHey everyone.  I'm running Mythbuntu RC1 for the current release (am currently upgrading everything) and can't get my DVB card to work.  It is recognized and can be set up as a tuner, but when I go to scan channels in QAM 256, nothing locks despite it showing a signal of 99%.  When in KnoppMyth, everything locks fine.  Anyone have any idea what I'm overlooking?00:16
sunghey there guys00:42
sungso, i've two pc-5500 cards in this a machine running mythbuntu 7.1000:42
tgm4883_laptopclaybo, what card?00:43
tgm4883_laptopsung, yea?00:43
sungand uh, i go to search for channels00:43
sungand it says that signal strength is 0%00:43
sungbut i know i've got a good antenna and can receive good signal00:44
sung( i used the same antenna/etc with an hdtv )00:44
sunglooks like i got everything configured and setup okay00:44

tgm4883_laptopwell mine shows up accuratly for the channels I do receive00:56
tgm4883_laptopclaybo, hmm not sure00:56
tgm4883_laptopclaybo, it's detected properly in mythbuntu?00:56
MythbuntuGuest95Hi, I have some questions about transcodeing00:57
sungtgm, thanks very much for your help00:57
tgm4883_laptopnp00:57
tgm4883_laptop!ask | MythbuntuGuest9500:57
ubotuMythbuntuGuest95: Don't ask to ask a question. Just ask your question :)00:57
claybotgm4883_laptop: it's detected properly, it seems like.  It sees its chipset in mythtv-setup and everything.  It's just that when I go to scan channels, it shows a signal of 99% and a signal/noise ratio of 93% to 60%, and nothing locks.00:57
tgm4883_laptophmm00:58
clayboWhat's interesting, too, is that plugged directly into my LCD TV, I'm getting strong locks on way more channels than I was getting in Knoppmyth.00:58
clayboI at least got locks in Knoppmyth, though.00:58
tgm4883_laptopwell i see one person with that card in the forums, but they don't say how they got it working00:58
clayboSo now I'm wondering if it's something with my card, or some settings not quite being dead-on?00:58
tgm4883_laptopim wondering if you need to get the firmware for it (probably)00:58
clayboHmm, good thinking.00:59
tgm4883_laptopclaybo, take a look at this.  It's for feisty, but may have some good info  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV_Feisty_hardware_list#head-cf80b2fb0dccd57465e5d45f55e8e34f54bc4a1900:59
MythbuntuGuest95I've poked around several forums and wikis about diffrent methods of transcodeing and exporting from the .nuv format to something playable in windows enviroment. Everyone seems to have there own ideas and own programs. What does Mythbuntu come with built in?01:00
tgm4883_laptopMythbuntuGuest95, are you wanting to use mythtranscode?01:01
MythbuntuGuest95Yes, if that is preloaded.  I'm intrested in learing how to porperly transcode before I install a bunch of extra software I don't really understand.01:02
solarbabythats funny my Hauppauge TV 350 TV out works better if I unflag the option to use PVR-350's TV out/MPEG Decoder from the MythFrontend01:02
solarbabyhehe.. not sure why01:02
dwf_starbandive selected Enable vnc service in the MCC and selected a password, i restarted the computer but am getting  a "No password configured for VNC Auth" error when I try to access it from the Terminal Server Client in gutsy01:02
tgm4883_laptopMythbuntuGuest95, install mytharchive, that should get you what you want01:03
sungtgm4883_laptop: is there a recommended way of doing vnc-like remote control with my myth box?01:05
dwf_starbandsung: im trying to figure that out too,01:06
MythbuntuGuest95good question tgm4883_laptop,01:06
MythbuntuGuest95I have noticed the vnc service and enabled it, but can't connect to it with a RealVNC client01:07
tgm4883_laptopsung, dwf_starband i dont think i understand what your trying to get here01:07
sungtgm4883_laptop: so, i've got a mythtv box, but i want to control whatever i'm seeing on hte screent01:07
dwf_starbandI want to be able to access my mythbuntu computer from another computer for administrative purpouses01:07
sungnormally xvnc would do it01:07
sungis that okay?01:07
sungdwf_starband: i'm doing all the console stuff through ssh01:08
sungbut id''d rather not get off my lazy ass to do this when i've got a laptop01:08
tgm4883_laptopdwf_starband, vnc is a bad way to do that01:08
tgm4883_laptopyour talking about running mythtv-setup and such right?01:08
dwf_starbandwhat is better? and why is it part of the control center then?01:08
sungtgm4883_laptop: i just want to do it remotely01:09
dwf_starbandits all set up, but if I want to change something later I want to be able to do it without having to plug a keyboard mouse and monitor into it01:09
dwf_starbandcuz all ill have pluged into it is the tv and network cable01:09
tgm4883_laptopa better way of running things remotely is to ssh in01:09
MythbuntuGuest95Where can find mytharchive?01:09
tgm4883_laptopssh ipaddress -X -Y01:09
dwf_starbandi can do that, but im very new at the command line01:10
sungwould01:10
sungx11vnc does it01:10
tgm4883_laptopMythbuntuGuest95, it's in the repos01:10
dwf_starbandwhat do the -X  and -Y do?01:11
tgm4883_laptopit will let you open the gui program on your own computer01:12
dwf_starbandoh, ok01:12
MythbuntuGuest95sorry not sure what "repos" is01:12
tritiumMythbuntuGuest95: repositories, where packages are kept01:13
dwf_starbandthanks, that helps alot, I think thats all I need01:13
sungargh.01:13
sungtgm4883_laptop: fyi, x11vnc is a great thing for doing this01:14
dwf_starbandi just tried it and it worked, im sure I still have lots to learn about it, but at least now I have someplace to start01:14
sunginital setup makes it a lot easier01:14
sungwelp01:14
sunglooks like my sound isnt working :(01:14
claybotgm4883_laptop: thank you!  You are a wonderful person.  My A180 is picking up channels perfectly with the updated firmware.  Don't know how I missed that in my Google searches, but it provided everything I needed.  Thank you!01:22
tgm4883_laptopno prob claybo01:24
sunghrmm01:36
sunghow do you set the default sound output01:36
clayboHey guys, one more quick question: when I turn on OpenGL vertical sync, my video is scrambled.  Is there any kind of known issue in Mythbuntu with OpenGL?01:47
sungokay01:53
sunggot that working01:53
sungasoundconf 4tw01:53
MythbuntuGuest05is ubuntu able to span multiple disks to one logical volume OR recorde to multiple disks?01:53
sungokay, now remote receiver issues01:53

pcgluesuperm1, yes, that's me01:55
superm1pcglue, great!01:55
superm1okay i've got it on a PPA right now until it clears proposed01:55
pcgluesuperm1, can you explain what's PPA please?01:55
superm1can you install that, and if it works, i'll need you to comment on the bug after it hits proposed01:55
superm1pcglue, add this to your sources.list01:56

pcgluesuperm1, do i have to comment out something existing?  it's complaining about duplicate entry01:58
superm1pcglue, do you already have it in there?01:58
superm1you likely shouldn't01:58
pcglueno, i don't01:58

MythbuntuGuest05Looks like spanning drives isn't so much recomended. Is there a way to make an aditional drive avalible myth for recording?02:15
superm1Daviey, please tell me you'll pushed the weekly builds by now right?02:18
Davieysuperm1: No!  I told you earlier in the week that my PPA's are pushing02:19
Davieyand you said you would push it!02:19
superm1Daviey, i thought you were going to fix them02:19
superm1no i didn't02:19
superm1you said you would sort it out....02:19

superm1did it say something was held back?02:33
pcgluesuperm1, it says they were not used and will be removed02:35

superm1this is one of those reasons that i hate aptitude btw.02:40

superm1you didn't hear the spec this week then02:40
superm1as of hardy02:40
superm1recommends by default02:40
Davieyffs!02:40
Davieywhy?!02:40
superm1that's what debian switched to02:41
superm1a few days ago02:41
Davieypackages such as smartmontools recommends mailx or mailutils... really something that isn't required for just checking02:42
Davieyso there is now no difference between depends and recommends?02:42
superm1well they both get installed02:42
superm1but recommends can be removed safely02:42

Davieyaww.. i missed that one02:43
Davieywere there any objections?02:43
superm1yeah02:43
Daviey*good*02:43
superm1i brought up how much would get installed on an existing system02:44
superm1and it was explained that universe is where the real trouble is02:44
superm1and it won't affect existing systems02:44
superm1its only new recommends added to the packages on existing systems that are upgraded02:44
superm1but if you do a fresh install of a package then you get them02:44
superm1if you dont want them, then fix the package02:44
Davieyand dist-upgrading to hardy will also cause it?02:44
superm1because its a bug and not using the depends/recommends/suggests properly02:44
superm1only items that additionally made recommends between the two versions on the dist-upgrae02:45
Davieyseems unclean imo02:45
superm1well its happening02:45
superm1so there is nothing to change that now02:45
superm1and like i said that is how debian does it now too02:46

superm1hi903:39
cbrunnerfor some reason I cant get vnc to operate on the same display as myth tv03:39
cbrunnerI want it to be display 003:39
cbrunnerwhen I do vnc4server :003:39
cbrunnerit says a vnc server is already running as :003:40
cbrunnerbut when I try to connect it says connection failed: connect()03:40
cbrunnerbut it will connect to display 103:40
superm1cbrunner, that's not how you start vnc in mythbuntu03:40
superm1go into mcc03:40
superm1turn it on there03:40
superm1and restart X03:40
superm1and it will be on03:40
cbrunnerI did turn it on there03:40
cbrunnerthats how I turned it on03:40
superm1and you restarted the computer (or at least X)?03:41
dwf_starbandanyone around?03:43
cbrunnersuperm1 trying now03:43
cbrunnerlet me see03:44
cbrunneroh sweet03:45
dwf_starbandi was in here a little bit ago asking about remote access to mythbuntu and was told that the best way was ssh ipaddress -X -Y03:45
cbrunnerit worked doing that03:45
cbrunnerthanks superm103:45
cbrunnera ton03:45
dwf_starbandso i tried it and it worked, so I unpluged it and set it up where Im going to be using it03:45
superm1dwf_starband, either that or vnc will work03:46
superm1if you want gui03:46
superm1like just cbrunner did03:46
dwf_starbandand realized that it was still set up for a monitor and not the tv, so i ssh'ed into it and opened nvidia-settings03:46
dwf_starbandbut it seems to be seeing the monitors connected to my desktop not my mythbox03:46
superm1you need to run nvidia-settings in VNC03:47
superm1or directly on that box03:47
dwf_starbandam i just parinoid or is that actually what is hapening?03:47
=== cbrunner is now known as CCB0x45
CCB0x45superm1, thanks for your help so much last night03:48
CCB0x45getting X configured03:48
dwf_starbandok, how do i get vnc working, thats what I wanted to know, when I was told to use ssh03:48
CCB0x45I was in a pissed off mood after dealing with it forever03:48
CCB0x45but I finally got it working03:48
superm1dwf_starband, open up mcc03:48
superm1and turn it on03:48
superm1and reboot03:48
superm1and that's it03:48
superm1CCB0x45, what'd you have to do eventually?03:48
dwf_starbandi tried that already before and i wasnt able to connect to it03:49
superm1dwf_starband, the important part is that you need to reboot03:49
superm1or restart x03:49
CCB0x45superm1, well03:49
dwf_starbandI did and still it doesnt work03:49
CCB0x45superm1, something is buggy with the nvidia drivers03:49
dwf_starband"No password configured for VNC Auth"03:49
CCB0x45it was validating my mode remember you couldnt see why it wasnt03:49
CCB0x45and I turned verbose logging to 603:49
superm1dwf_starband, you are final version right?03:49
CCB0x45and it was even saying03:49
CCB0x45The mode is valid, for the res I wanted03:50
CCB0x45and never adding it to the mode pool03:50
CCB0x45and not giving a reason why03:50
dwf_starbandim not sure, how do i check the version?03:50
CCB0x45so I had to do what you said, turn off certain validation tests03:50
superm1oh i didn't realize that you could go that high on verbose logging03:50
CCB0x45yea, it does even more logging03:50
superm1dwf_starband, you downloaded the final iso03:50
superm1i'm asking03:50
CCB0x45but I had to turn off certain validations and not other03:50
superm1this isn't a RC03:50
superm1or anything like that03:50
CCB0x45I couldnt have all off....03:50
CCB0x45and finally it validated a mode that normally wouldnt be valid03:50
dwf_starbandit might not have been the final one, i cant remember03:50
CCB0x45and added that to the mode pool03:50
superm1CCB0x45, yeah that was my experience before too when i had to use overrids03:50
dwf_starbandit was a week or two ago03:51
CCB0x45even though it said it validated the right one03:51
CCB0x45but never added that to the modepool03:51
superm1dwf_starband, well there was a bug with VNC fixed with the final03:51
CCB0x45either way03:51
CCB0x45it works now03:51
superm1dwf_starband, so its important to check03:51
CCB0x45I also found out my tv can do03:51
dwf_starbandhow?03:51
CCB0x451080p03:51
superm1CCB0x45, please document this somewhere so that people can find this03:51
CCB0x45which might be nice to play with03:51
superm1CCB0x45, either on the forums, or the wiki, or both03:51
CCB0x45yea once I get it set up, I lan on adding to the wiki03:51
CCB0x45plan03:51
CCB0x45I just wanna finish configuring it first03:51
superm1CCB0x45, well while this is fresh in your head, maybe a good idea to get it all down on a forum post03:52
superm1and then move it to the wiki later03:52
superm1and format it and such03:52
CCB0x45ill put my xorg on there03:52
dwf_starbandis the version documented somewhere on the installation?03:52
superm1i think the most important  part is the process03:52
superm1CCB0x45, ^03:52
superm1because how you figured out the invalid mode is information that i know i never found03:53
superm1but figured out03:53
CCB0x45ok ill make sure to write it up03:53
superm1dwf_starband, you can check the version of mcc03:53
superm1dwf_starband, that's where the bug is03:53
CCB0x45yea when you turn on verbose 6, it shows you every single mode its trying to validate03:53
CCB0x45and why each one didnt get validated03:53
superm1dwf_starband, dpkg -l | grep mythbuntu-control03:53
superm1that's exactly what i remembered from last time i had to do it too03:54
superm1great :)03:54
CCB0x45yea im so stoked, looks awesome in 720p03:54
superm1CCB0x45, well and by doing this, your tv is better than your friends' tv eh? :)03:54
dwf_starband 0.10-0ubuntu103:54
superm1dwf_starband, you're not on the final version then.03:54
CCB0x45superm1, no his tv works without having to do what I did, with the same mode03:54
CCB0x45that is what is weird, and its exactly the same tv03:54
CCB0x45same EDID settings03:54
dwf_starbandis there a way to upgrade? easily?03:54
superm1dwf_starband, well apt-get update/upgrade, but also download the deb that is here http://ppa.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/ubuntu/pool/main/m/mythbuntu-control-centre/mythbuntu-control-centre_0.11-0ubuntu1~ppa1_all.deb03:55
CCB0x45but for some reason I had to do it to get mine working03:55
CCB0x45no rhyme or reason03:55
superm1CCB0x45, but i mean yours does 1080p03:55
superm1whereas his doesn't03:55
dwf_starbandwhich do  you recomend?03:55
CCB0x45no, his does too03:55
CCB0x45we just realized it by looking at the EDID03:56
superm1dwf_starband, you have to do BOTH03:56
CCB0x45the thing is the TV isnt supposed to really do 1080p03:56
superm1dwf_starband, or you need to reinstall from a fresh ISO03:56
dwf_starbandoh, ok03:56
CCB0x45it was one of the first versions of the tv that does do 1080p but it only supported it over firewire03:56
superm1CCB0x45, so it takes in 1080p, but doesn't render in 1080p?03:56
superm1or what?03:56
CCB0x45but we found out that if you put it in hdmi port 2 and turn it to pc mode, it can do 1080p03:56
CCB0x45it does render in 1080p03:56
superm1cool03:56
CCB0x45but the only way its documented of accepting it is firewire03:56
superm1then leave it in 1080p i say :)03:56
CCB0x45yea someone else realized it with their ps303:57
tritiumsuperm1: where did you say I could tweak nvidia settings to correct for overscan?03:57
CCB0x45if they set it to HDMI port 2 and do PC mode03:57
CCB0x45it says it doesnt know the resolution but still displays it in 1080p03:58
superm1tritium, mcc, nvidia-settings03:58
CCB0x45pretty nice03:58
superm1and that's it03:58
CCB0x45ok office is on, gotta go!03:58
superm1cya CCB0x4503:58
CCB0x45thanks again superm1, ill be sure to add that stuff03:58
superm1directhex, btw^ see EDID works! ^03:58
superm1:)03:58
dwf_starbandit warns me that an older version is avaliable and I should use it instead, should I continue with this one?04:00
superm1install it04:00
superm1like i said.04:00
tritiumsuperm1: where?04:02
tritiumI don't see anything there to correct for overscan04:02
superm1click your tv04:02
superm1and there are sliders04:02
pcglueafter installing mythweb, the browser will try to download a php file instead of displaying the output.  PHP works in other directories, only in the mythweb directory will it try to download a php file.  Any ideas what's wrong?04:02
dwf_starbanddo I need to restart or anything before using it?04:02
superm1pcglue, libapache2-module-php504:03
superm1dwf_starband, no.04:03
superm1but you need to apt-get update/upgrade as well04:03
superm1and then start it04:03
tritiumsuperm1: hmm, no sliders04:03
superm1tritium, well then you're not using a tv.04:03
superm1:)04:03
tritiumsuperm1: I sure am :)04:03
dwf_starbandI did that before, do i need to do it after?04:03
superm1dwf_starband, no you shouldn't need to then still04:04
superm1dwf_starband, so choose reconfigure on vnc04:04
superm1tritium, i doubt that. either that or you cant do it for your tv out type04:04
tritiumI'm using DVI -> HDMI into my JVC HD-61Z786A (720 D-ILA TV)04:04
pcgluesuperm1, libapache2-module-php5 is installed.  it's only in the mythweb directory that the browser will try to download a PHP file.  In other directories, PHP works.04:05
dwf_starbandbut you said i do need to restart after reconfiguring vnc?04:05
superm1pcglue, clear your FF cache04:05
superm1dwf_starband, yes04:05
dwf_starbandok thanks04:05
tritiumPerhaps you can't adjust for overscan with DVI out.04:05
superm1tritium, no you can't04:06
superm1only for composite, svideo, and component04:06
pcgluesuperm1, thanks.04:06
tritiumsuperm1: maybe I'll try for component, although I prefer DVI04:06
superm1tritium, you need to adjust it on the tv level04:06
superm1tritium, you can look in your tv's service menu04:07
tritiumsuperm1: okay, thanks04:07
superm1tritium, but i'll give you my 3 cents on the matter04:07
tritiumWhat's that?04:07
superm1tritium, the DVI specification used by tvs leaves in overscan04:07
superm1and that's why you see it04:07
tritiumWould you switch to component?04:08
superm1unlike on a normal monitor04:08
superm1tritium, well you have 3 solutions04:08
superm1(1) most preferable in my opinion: VGA04:08
superm1(2) DVI with a custom modeline to account for overscan04:08
superm1(3) component04:08
tritiumI've had no luck with custom modelines in the past.04:08
superm1neither have i04:09
tritiumNor with VGA.04:09
superm1have you tried vga on this tv though?04:09
superm1or just in the past had bad experiences04:09
tritiumMy TV basically says it only supports 1024x768@60Hz04:09
superm1yuck.04:09
superm1that's what the EDID says?04:09
tritiumNothing else seems to work, and it ends up centered in the middle with lots of black space around it.04:09
tritiumI'd have to verify that.04:10
tritiumI've not hooked up VGA in a long time.04:10
superm1tritium, well also04:10
superm1tritium, myth can be resized04:10
tritiumI have myth resized already04:10
superm1to account for overscan04:10
superm1i see04:10
tritiumBut I'd like to see the panels :)04:10
pcgluewhen you guys use VGA, is the motion jerky?  my tv's vga is a lot more jerky than s-video or composite when using mythtv.04:10
superm1eh they're overratedd04:10
superm1pcglue, not at all.04:11
tritiumsuperm1: :)04:11
superm1sounds like it would be due to using a higher resolution04:11
tritiumyikes, batter dying...04:11
tritiumbattery, even04:11
dwf_starbandvnc still doesnt work, but I realized that I had the tv on the wrong input and it seems that it realized what was pluged in already04:14
dwf_starbandi would still like to get vnc working though, it its something simple, otherwise dont worry about it04:14
superm1dwf_starband, well is the vnc module loading04:21
superm1check /var/log/Xorg.0.log04:21
superm1just grep it for04:21
superm1"vnc"04:21
dwf_starbandthe command is "grep vnc" ?04:23
superm1grep vnc /var/log/Xorg.0.log04:24
dwf_starband(II) LoadModule: "vnc"04:24
dwf_starband(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libvnc.so04:24
dwf_starband(II) Module vnc: vendor="RealVNC Ltd"04:24
superm1so it loaded fine04:24
superm1nmap localhost -ant | grep 590004:24
superm1and see if its listening04:25
superm1er just nmap localhost04:25
superm1even04:25
dwf_starbandnmap is not installed04:25
dwf_starbandjust a second04:25
dwf_starbandthere are a couple listed but 5900/tcp open vnc is one of them04:29
dwf_starbanddont worry about it, i dont need it for now04:32
superm1well its listening then04:32
superm1my money is on your client issues then04:32
superm1not on the server side of it04:32
dwf_starbandis there a better client than the one that comes with ubuntu?04:33
dwf_starbandit can see tightvnc on my windows machine just fine04:33
dwf_starbandyou guys are doing a great job with mythbuntu, keep up the great work04:38
dwf_starbandthanks04:38
JThundleyI'll second that04:47
CCB0x45hey im tryint to compile a different version of lirc that has the driver I need04:55
CCB0x45and its giving this error when I configure04:55
CCB0x45configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables04:56
CCB0x45actually I think I know the issue04:57
superm1your asking for trouble compiling lirc, you will have to recompile if any new kernel comes out04:59
superm1you are better off having it work with the lirc modules shipped if you can04:59
CCB0x45well that one doesnt have support for my ir blaster and remote05:00
superm1what ir blaster and remote?05:00
CCB0x45so... I think this is all I can do05:00
CCB0x45PVR 15005:00
superm1yes you can.05:00
CCB0x45hauppage05:00
superm1look at the forums05:00
CCB0x45it doesnt show up in the list05:00
superm1the forums has a thread discussing it05:00
CCB0x45ok let me check it out05:00
superm1there were a few thigns that came up after release05:00
superm1but people have sorted it out05:00
CCB0x45the mythbuntu forums?05:01
superm1(one of the items requires something from my ppa, i helped to solve the problem)05:01
superm1yes05:01
CCB0x45ppa?05:01
superm1honestly i wish people would browse the forums more for solutions first05:01
superm1before thinking compiling it themselves is the best idea05:01
CCB0x45sorry but there is a huge tutorial showing how to set it up05:01
superm1because it leads to later complications usually (like what i'm describing if newer kernels come up)05:02
CCB0x45I figured on following that05:02
superm1so if you're lurking in here and you catch someone else trying to compile something, point them at the forums first, (hence also why i wanted you to put your EDID mishaps and such there and on the wiki)05:03
CCB0x45ok I will, I cant find this thread one sec05:03
superm1http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=587732&highlight=pvr+15005:04
CCB0x45ah05:04
CCB0x45shouldnt have searched for hauppage05:04
CCB0x45hmm05:08
CCB0x45this is kind of hard to follow05:10
CCB0x45one sec05:10
superm1the jist of it is follow http://help.ubuntu.com/Install_Lirc_Gutsy05:10
superm1but make these changes first05:10
superm1as in the first post05:10
CCB0x45well05:11
superm1er https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Install_Lirc_Gutsy05:11
CCB0x45I added the ppa... then I went to synaptic manager and installed it05:11
CCB0x45then installed lirc05:11
CCB0x45and it trys to configure lirc05:11
CCB0x45but the pvr 150 isnt in there05:11
superm1thats fine05:11
superm1that's for "remotes"05:11
superm1choose the closest thing05:11
superm1which is the hauppauge remote05:11
CCB0x45well I need to get my remote working too05:11
superm1and then follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Install_Lirc_Gutsy#head-6559a7d145224976113e808c33411621122a58f305:11
CCB0x45the module im looking for is05:12
superm1you'll just need to change /etc/lirc/hardware.conf to use lirc_pvr15005:12
superm1its included with gutsy05:12
CCB0x45ah I think it worked now05:12
CCB0x45should I remove the modules that were there before?05:14
CCB0x45the guy in the first thread said he did05:14
superm1right05:14
CCB0x45but it doesnt say that in the other05:14
CCB0x45ls05:14
superm1i've heard that it only works with one module in place05:14
superm1once you sort things out here, i think it'd be great if you can update that Install_Lirc_Gutsy page with the items necessary, and perhaps comment on that thread to make him link to the Install_Lirc_Gutsy page05:15
CCB0x45ok05:15
CCB0x45well I copied the firmware in05:15
stevetvgents.. is there a backup script included in mythbuntu?05:18
* stevetv should probably take better notes when im doing things05:19
stevetverr.. i mean to backup the file system.. not the recordings05:20
superm1rsync -avz from to?05:20
stevetvthat wouldn't make a bootable recover disk tho05:21
CCB0x45someone said I could test this by running irw05:22
CCB0x45and seeing if remote commands come through05:22
CCB0x45but I run it and its ust blank05:22
superm1CCB0x45, you may need to unload the modules and reload them05:22
superm1because the old i2c module might be loaded still05:23
CCB0x45you cant just restart lirc?05:23
CCB0x45how do you unload them?05:23
superm1i'm just saying you may need to05:24
superm1its not for sure05:24
superm1rmmod lirc_i2c05:24
superm1rmmod lirc_pvr15005:24
superm1sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart05:24
superm1will load only necessary modules then05:24
CCB0x45seg faulted when I did the pvr150 rmmod05:25
CCB0x45lol05:25
CCB0x45when I try to restart it hangs after stopping lirc deamon05:25
superm1CCB0x45, you installed that package from the ppa right?05:26
CCB0x45yea I believe so...05:26
superm1sounds to me like its not on your system right now05:26
CCB0x45I went to add third party packages05:26
CCB0x45I added the line05:26
CCB0x45then I went to synaptic05:26
superm1and it upgraded?05:27
CCB0x45I searched for linux-ubuntu-modules05:27
CCB0x45the only with a little star with it05:27
CCB0x45I clicked that and marked it for upgrade05:27
CCB0x45and applied05:27
CCB0x45its linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-14-generic05:28
CCB0x45installed version 2.6.22-14.40~ppa105:28
superm1okay that's right05:28
CCB0x45I think it did the lirc upgrade at the same time05:28
CCB0x45would that matter?05:28
superm1well at this point i'd just restart for sanity's sake05:29
CCB0x45ok one sec05:29
superm1since it sounds like things are in a state of flux05:29
CCB0x45does that module add support for the remote too?05:29
superm1you know between this and the pvr 350 bug people have been hitting, i wish that more people would have tested support for these things before we mastered the "final" disk :(05:30
superm1that's my understanding05:30
CCB0x45I built my system after the final disk05:30
CCB0x45ok 1 sec05:30
superm1yeah people started to report these issues a few days ago05:30
superm1for the 350 and 15005:30
CCB0x45I wish my wireless card would work too05:32
CCB0x45ok I rebooted05:32
CCB0x45is there any way to see if its loaded?05:32
CCB0x45ah05:32
CCB0x45I did a dmesg grep lirc05:32
CCB0x45looks like its loaded now05:32
CCB0x45http://pastebin.com/m14b9010805:34
CCB0x45but still reading no commands...05:34
superm1you've got a lirc_imon?05:36
superm1why?05:36
CCB0x45autodetected that05:36
CCB0x45but I want it05:36
superm1you can't have both05:36
superm1not easily at least05:36
superm1its one or the other.05:36
superm1that's your problem here.05:36
CCB0x45wait what is my lirc imon?05:36
CCB0x45I thought that was my VFG05:36
superm1that's what i'm asking you05:36
CCB0x45VFD05:36
CCB0x45I mean05:36
superm1is that what you are intending to use to capture remote?05:37
superm1or the pvr150?05:37
CCB0x45pvr15005:37
CCB0x45cause I need to blast05:37
CCB0x45with its ir blaster05:37
superm1so you are blasting and receiving from the pvr 15005:37
superm1correct05:37
CCB0x45well can I blast from the 150 and recieve from the imon?05:37
superm1this is why i'm asking you05:37
CCB0x45id like to do that if possible05:37
superm1is that what you wanted to do05:38

CCB0x45thats fine05:38
CCB0x45honestly whatever is easier05:38
CCB0x45I just want it to work05:38
superm1any time you need to setup two lirc devices using different drivers it gets rough05:38
CCB0x45ok05:38
superm1then you need to blacklist lirc_imon05:38
superm1if you don't know how to blacklist, then google it05:39
CCB0x45I know how05:39
CCB0x45ok one sec05:39

MediaBuilderhey, how can I add SMB shares from my Windows network to my media library?10:00
directhex|workmythvideo expects to see a single directory tree of media. so mount your smb share inside the tree10:01
MediaBuilderhmmm is there some noobish guide out there for someone who is coming to this after using Xbox Media Center?10:03
directhex|workmount -t smbfs //machine/sharename /path/to/some/empty/folder10:04
MediaBuilderooooooooooh10:04
MediaBuilderwow, that was oddly easier to understand than the english explaination10:05
MediaBuilderI need to get out more10:05
MediaBuilderthanks10:05
directhex|work/path/to/some/empty/folder should be somewhere within where myth expects to see stuff - or you can change where myth expects to see stuff. one or t'other10:05
MediaBuilderOk, so I have have all my media on 6 500GB USB drives, is there a good way to link folders in the drives together, and then make that location the place Myth is looking for content?10:07
directhex|workyou could mount them all in the same vague place - /mythtv/drive1, /mythtv/drive2, and so on. mythvideo, for preference, uses metadata-based browsing rather than flat file browsing10:09
directhex|worki think myth also supports multiple folders seperated with a : these days, as the path - e.g. /data/foo:/data/bar10:10
directhex|workmaybe10:10
MediaBuilderhmm10:11
MediaBuilderthat seems to be the best bet10:11
MediaBuilderit'd appear as a list, so I'd do something like /myth/tv:/myth/tv2:/myth/Movies etc10:12
MediaBuilderThe media would appear as10:12
MediaBuilderTV10:12
MediaBuilderTV210:12
MediaBuilderMovies10:12
MediaBuilderright?10:12
directhex|worknot 100% sure, i don't do it that way10:14
directhex|worki just have 1 large partition for everything, which is much simpler10:15
MediaBuilderyeah, I wish I could do that, but the drives move around with me10:15
MediaBuilderI just wish the xbox could handle high def content, XBMC really is a phenomenal project10:16
MediaBuilderhmm now its telling me I can't mount these drives (they were used on Windows)10:41
directhex|workanything specific?10:50
MediaBuilderIt says cannoth mount volume TVOtoZ10:54
MediaBuilderwhen I plug in the USB drive10:54
MediaBuilderIts been formatted and used on windows10:55
directhex|workntfs?10:56
MediaBuilderyeah10:56
directhex|workmake sure you have the "ntfs-3g" package installed, and are a member of he "fuse" group10:56
MediaBuilderI'm sorry, the "fuse" group?10:57
directhex|workthe "fuse" group.10:59
directhex|workas in "if i type 'groups' in a terminal, does it list 'fuse'?"10:59
MediaBuilderok, yeah it does list fuse11:01
directhex|workhm. and if you try to mount from a console - mount -t ntfs /dev/sdb1 /media/foo11:02
directhex|workguessing at both the mountpoint and drive at this point11:02
MediaBuilderyeah, I'm trying to find the installer right now11:02
MediaBuilderlike in ubuntu11:03
MediaBuilderok, there it is11:04
MediaBuilderyeah ntfs-3g was not installed11:04
MediaBuilderinstalling now11:04
MediaBuilderWell, I give up, I can't mount these volumes, Looks like its vista for me, good luck with the project folks, I'll be watching closely, hope it gets more noob friendly11:20

KingArthur10hello all: I have a quick question.  I had an old laptop lying about and I decided it might be nice to just hook it to my TV via VGA and set up a myth-tv system.  The only issue I have is that I don't have a remote for it.  So, I want to try my wiimote instead as the remote.  Does anyone know of an automatic startup script that will run at startup and wait for wiimote connections?17:28

superm1_you must have set one20:14
DucoNihilumI just did what you said.20:14
superm1_its a choice during installation20:14
superm1_well then dpkg-reconfigure mythweb20:14
superm1_er20:14
superm1_sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythweb20:14
DucoNihilumalright20:15
DucoNihilumnow I don't have a static IP address.....20:15
DucoNihilumIs there anything like no-ip.org for linux?20:15
MythbuntuGuest99is there an easy way to transcode a recording to divx or xvid once its done recording?20:16
superm1_you mean a daemon to update your no-ip.org address?20:16
MythbuntuGuest99and place it in another drive?20:16
superm1_there are ways to automatically update it20:16
DucoNihilumI've done no-ip.org with windows20:16
DucoNihilumbut never linux20:16
superm1_MythbuntuGuest99, there are jobs20:16
superm1_DucoNihilum, well google for it20:16
superm1_i'm sure there are daemons that do it20:16
superm1_my routers have always supported it natively20:16
MythbuntuGuest99is there a how-to I can read for these jobs?20:17
superm1_MythbuntuGuest99, i dont have anything to refer you to off hand20:17
MythbuntuGuest99ok20:17

MythbuntuGuest99does Nuvexport sound familiar?20:19
DucoNihilumI have another question.20:20
DucoNihilumI'd like to make all of my recordings smaller by transcoding them, but I don't always have the option for MPEG 4 or what I want, xvid.20:20
directhexxvid *is* mpeg420:21
DucoNihilumoh, right.20:22
DucoNihilumanyways....20:22
directhexmpeg4 part 2 is a video codec standard, xvid is an implementation20:22
MythbuntuGuest99DucoNihilum: im looking at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/User_Manual:Daily_Use#Exporting_Recordings20:22
DucoNihilumUnder transcoders I see MPEG-2 encoders20:22
DucoNihilumwith my PVR20:22
MythbuntuGuest99is that similar to what you want?20:22
DucoNihilumSee I can make my own transcoder group and select mpeg 420:23
DucoNihilumbut I can't' figure out how to implement it20:23
DucoNihilumI want it to automatically transcode them20:24
DucoNihilumto save space20:24
directhexwhat do you mean by "under transcoders"?20:25
directhexyou mean tv card type?20:25
DucoNihilumIf I go to setup > setup  TV settings  recording profiles20:26
DucoNihilumI see MPEG-2 encoders20:26
DucoNihilumTesting-transcode (i made that group)20:26
DucoNihilumand transcoders20:26
DucoNihilumIf I go into "transcoders"20:27
DucoNihilumand pick high quality for example20:27
DucoNihilumit doesn't have an option for automatically transcoding20:27
DucoNihilumthe other do20:27
DucoNihilumothers*20:27
DucoNihilumThat's also the only place I can find the MPEG- codec20:27
DucoNihilumI cant figure out how to transcode with this one after the fact either.20:28
DucoNihilumGone?20:39
DucoNihilumCan you help me?20:53

stefancrshold, will try safe graphics mode22:19
tgm4883_laptopdid you md5sum the iso and verify the cd?22:20

CCB0x45anyone gotten mythstreamtv to work with the new stuff?23:09
DucoNihilumHey23:10
DucoNihilumAnyone here that can help me?23:10
CCB0x45with what23:10
DucoNihilumTrying to set up the no-ip.org thing23:10
DucoNihilumfor mythweb23:10
CCB0x45is that like dyn-dns?23:11
DucoNihilumyeah sort of23:11
CCB0x45looks like the same thing to me23:11
CCB0x45I just set it through my router23:11
CCB0x45the netgear ones have a built in thing for dyn-dns23:12
CCB0x45whats your problem?23:12
DucoNihilumWell its not working23:12
DucoNihilummaybe its because of the router23:12
DucoNihilumshould I forward anything?23:12
CCB0x45well is the router blocking23:13
CCB0x45the ports you need?23:13
CCB0x45if you havnt forwarded anything then most likely23:13
Nixus_Maximus@CCB... Yes, works for me in 0.20.2, though it was pretty tough work.23:13
CCB0x45Nixus, you remember at all23:14
CCB0x45how you got it to work?23:14
CCB0x45im using 20.2 also23:14
Nixus_Maximustake a look at my post in the mythtv-forum http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3019&highlight=nixus23:14
CCB0x45ah thanks man23:15
Nixus_Maximusit's a while ago, but I didn't change anything an it still works though I updates mythtv23:15
DucoNihilumok i have another problem23:15
DucoNihilumtranscoding23:15
Nixus_Maximusupdated23:15
CCB0x45thats a good start23:15
Nixus_Maximusterrible typos ;-)23:15
DucoNihilumI'd like to be able to automatically transcode anything recorded23:15
DucoNihiluminto MPEG423:15
DucoNihilumbut i cant figure out how to set that up23:16
CCB0x45Nixus, do you also while I have you, have any idea why when I goto schedule recordings and click on a show, scheduling options would be grayed out23:16
CCB0x45Duco, whats the problem?23:16
CCB0x45have you looked at the transcoding set up preferences23:16
CCB0x45in the backend and front end setups?23:16
DucoNihilumYes, I see a few.... one that says "Transcoders"23:16
Nixus_Maximushm, no. in mythweb?23:16
DucoNihilumand one like that but it has the name of my card23:16
DucoNihilumHap23:16
CCB0x45Nixus, its not grayed out in mythweb23:17
CCB0x45just in mythtv23:17
CCB0x45well the transcoding you want to do23:17
CCB0x45is in software23:17
DucoNihilumok so i set up one under 'transcoders'23:17
DucoNihilumbut i dont know how to acatually make it transcode23:17
CCB0x45I havnt set up any automatic transcoders yet23:18
=== bq__ is now known as toorima
CCB0x45Nixus, it seems to let me record through mythweb23:18
Nixus_Maximusbtw. to my forum-post: I now think that's only necessary to compile vlc in the way described (maybe mpeg2dec), but not ffmpeg any more. at least if you use ffmpeg from the medibuntu-repository23:19
Nixus_Maximusthat sounds strange23:19
CCB0x45so you do need to recompile vlc23:20
CCB0x45do get mythstreamtv working23:20
Nixus_Maximusyes. that definitely23:20
CCB0x45what about torrentocracy23:21
Nixus_MaximusI think some necessary options are not compiled in - though I did not find out which, the mythstreamtv-scripts are rather complicated...23:21
Nixus_Maximusdunno, I did not try it so far. though I did not read any successful experience with it lately...23:22
CCB0x45guess ill crank away at mythstream later23:23
CCB0x45mythstream and torrentocracy are the 2 nicest plugins23:23
CCB0x45I dunno why nobody uses them with mythbuntu23:23
Nixus_Maximusmaybe this problem will be gone when they implement flash in mythtv 0.2123:23
CCB0x45its going to stream to flash?23:24
Nixus_Maximusyes23:24
CCB0x45that would be sick23:24
CCB0x45theres no way to get that working with 20.2?23:24
CCB0x45oh there is23:25
Nixus_Maximusnot with mythweb. I don't know how the implement it, it just says "Added FLV playback support for MythWeb"23:25
CCB0x45this wiki says you can23:25
CCB0x45oh wait23:26
CCB0x45that is only streaming recordings23:26
Nixus_Maximusi think this is just a user job ?23:26
CCB0x45not live tv I guess23:26
Nixus_Maximusmaybe. probably takes to much time to encode23:26
CCB0x45yea23:27
CCB0x45streaming recordings isnt bad though23:27
CCB0x45shouldnt take THAT long to encode23:27
CCB0x45right23:27
CCB0x45like maybe a couple minute delay23:27
CCB0x45I mean ive got a dual core amd in there23:28
Nixus_Maximusok, that should do it23:28
Nixus_Maximus;-)23:28
CCB0x45looks like mythstreamtv is the best option for now23:30
CCB0x45when is .21 supposed to come out?23:30
Nixus_MaximusI don't know. they do not publish any schedule and it took one year to go from 0.20 to 0.20.2 :-(23:31
Nixus_Maximusmaybe it's already in the SVN-Version, but I do not want to break my system23:32
CCB0x45yea23:34
CCB0x45ill probably fuck around with mythstreamtv23:34
CCB0x45try to get that working23:34
CCB0x45then also try to get the flash working23:34
CCB0x45for recordings23:34
Nixus_Maximusthat's a nice occupation for the weekend23:35
CCB0x45haha23:37
CCB0x45code during the week days and hack together shit on the weekends23:37
CCB0x45sweet life23:37
DucoNihilumMixus23:37
DucoNihilumDo you know how to set up the transcoding?23:37
PogonipNeed help setting up lircd.conf to control Dish Network PVR 508?23:38
Nixus_Maximusgotta fo or a moment, trying to solve vom compiz and tv-out issues...23:38
CCB0x45I just got my dish network controlled23:40
CCB0x45but I was using a PVR 15023:40
PogonipThat's as good a start as any.  How did you find the codes?23:40
CCB0x45this big long set of codes23:42
CCB0x45from here... one sec23:42
PogonipI can use irsend to send codes to the IR Emitter, but I need to find a code set that works.23:42
PogonipI think I have the set, it has dish1 to dish16 codes?23:43
CCB0x45no...23:44
Pogoniphmm..maybe you have something I don't.23:44
DucoNihilumDoes anyone know anything about transcoding?23:45
CCB0x45http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/lmilk/lircd.conf23:45
CCB0x45that conf has like every code in it23:45
CCB0x45http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/lmilk/IRcodesets.html23:46
CCB0x45and that shows how they are related23:46
CCB0x45I have a dish 81123:46
CCB0x45but it didnt use the dish 811 listed codeset there23:46
CCB0x45which was 13023:46
CCB0x45it actually used the dishnet codeset23:46
CCB0x45which was 88888888888888888823:46
CCB0x45fucking vlc23:46
CCB0x45I mean 8823:46
CCB0x45works like a charm now23:47
CCB0x45but like I said that was for the IR 150 blaster23:47
PogonipI have that one too, but I couldn't get the send_power_on shell to work.23:47
CCB0x45what do you mean couldnt get it to work?23:47
Pogonipsend_power_on would only send the first few codes and then it would stall.23:47
PogonipI never saw the IR Emitter blick,23:48
PogonipIf I copy the irsend code out of send_power_on and run it in a term, the IR emitter blinks, but not when I run it in the shell23:49
DavieyCCB0x45: torrentocracy... are you joking?!23:49
DavieyCCB0x45: Have you tried it recently?23:49
CCB0x45Daviey, no why23:50
CCB0x45whats wrong with it?23:50
CCB0x45Pogonip, yea I didnt use the script23:50
Daviey"The torrentocracy project is no longer active."23:50
DavieyHasn't worked since Myth 0.19 IIRC23:50
CCB0x45the script is pretty simple just runs one23:50
Davieyand even then it was still beta23:50
CCB0x45Daviey, well its the only torrent plugin isnt it?23:51
DavieyNo.23:51
PogonipOk, I'll keep trying.23:51
DavieyThere are no torrent pluggins23:51
CCB0x45oh is there a newer one?23:51
CCB0x45Pogonip, I didnt use the script23:51
CCB0x45I just did the commands for the different dish boxes23:51
CCB0x45till they worked23:51
DavieyCCB0x45: your best bet is torrentflux.. web based torrent client23:51
CCB0x45manually like you are23:51
CCB0x45Daviey, ill try that23:52
CCB0x45is there any new torrent plugins that actually work with the front end though?23:52
DavieyCCB0x45: tis quite nice23:52
DavieyCCB0x45: no.. and there won't be23:52
CCB0x45what do you do have torrentflux download stuff to the videos directory and it will just get imported?23:52
DavieyCCB0x45: Upstream Mythtv do not want to be associated with torrenting on myth23:53
DavieyCCB0x45: yes23:53
CCB0x45yea thats really dumb, I hate how torrenting is treated like a crime now23:53
CCB0x45its not an illegal protocal23:53
DavieyCCB0x45: just set the download location to be where videos are stored23:53
CCB0x45guess ill just do that23:53
DavieyCCB0x45: no.. but there are few legal torrents relevant to mythtv23:53
CCB0x45I just thought it would be nice to be able to see their progress with the remote23:53
CCB0x45plenty of cspan and other public domain23:54
Davieysure would.. but out of our hands23:54
DavieyCCB0x45: And they are relevant to myth?23:54
CCB0x45well if you wanna play them through myth23:54
CCB0x45and see how far they are coming along23:54
DavieyCCB0x45: but anyway.. we both know that the 99% of users would use it for illegal content23:54
CCB0x45but whatever, torrentflux does look nice I had seen that before23:55
CCB0x45I just figured torrentocracy would still work23:55
CCB0x45haha yea23:55
Davieynope.. the author gave up when the Mythtv project refused to accept it23:55
CCB0x45is there any other streaming methods of live tv besides mythstreamtv that I dont know about23:55
Davieydon't think so23:55
CCB0x45do thy refuse to accept that too?23:56
CCB0x45that seems like a feature everyone would like23:56
CCB0x45considering people pay $200 for a POS slingbox to do it23:56
