[00:06] hello [00:06] yo [00:06] please [00:06] TALK [00:06] PPL [00:07] ARE U HERE [00:07] Hi [00:07] who [00:07] wow [00:07] How can I help you? :) [00:07] someone answered [00:07] yea [00:07] so you can help me out with unbuntu right [00:08] ? [00:08] #ubuntu is the Ubuntu support channel [00:08] so you can help me [00:08] This channel is for the coordination of the development of the Ubuntu documentation [00:08] oh [00:08] sorry [00:08] Please refer to #ubuntu [00:08] is that it [00:08] do i search for that [00:08] #ubuntu [00:09] i am not fimilar with this kinda chat server [00:09] type: /join #ubuntu [00:10] where do i type that [00:10] Where you're typing right now [00:10] OH [00:10] ok [00:11] thanks alot === LjL is now known as LjL2 [02:54] somerville32: that was a pretty humorous help request and response above ^ [02:55] lol [02:59] somerville32: i like the idea of a xubuntu help browser, so long as it doesn't take a crazy amount of time/effort, which i don't think it will [02:59] let me know if you guys need any help on it [03:01] Awesome :) [04:33] hey all [04:38] im trying to start writing the basic commands for xubuntu hardy. so far, i have 'man' 'sudo' 'ls' 'pwd' 'cd' and 'ifconfig'/'dhclient [04:38] anything else? [04:43] posingaspopular, We're have a basic commands section? [04:44] i could have sworn.... [04:44] or else i was mapping out docs in my head all day for no reason [04:45] As long as we aren't expecting anyone to use them :P [04:47] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Xubuntu/Documentation/HardyAssignments [04:47] basic commands [04:47] It should be nothing more than an appendix at best. [04:48] ummm.... okay.... [04:48] We should strive to make it so that users don't even have to touch the cli [04:48] somerville32: im really bad at this docs thing by the way [04:48] posingaspopular, No you're not :P [04:57] somerville32: the ubuntu docs have a CLI section, we just duplicated it [04:57] oldmanstan, Okay. Are we trying to maintain a minimum delta or is there no point to that now? [04:58] yeah, imho we should try to change as little as possible, at least in areas where that's feasible [04:59] i mean, obviously there are significant software packages that xubuntu doesn't ship by default that k/ubuntu do, so in those areas we should probably just forget about trying to stay parallel [05:00] oldmanstan, So why do we need to write our own basic commands now? [05:00] Can't we mirror what ubuntu has? [05:00] And is it a full chapter in Ubuntu? [05:01] yeah, when i made that table i basically just copied the old one, but for certain things we can probably specify that the goal for a section is just to keep up with the ubuntu changes (and fix them where they don't work for us) [05:02] it's a full chapter yeah, i was a bit surprised myself when i saw it, amazingly it was also had quite a few bugs, haha, you'd think a bunch of nerds could write a command line guide [05:05] lol [05:05] It wouldn't require much hacking to make it an appendix instead [05:05] oldmanstan: the level 400 classes in communication for web design teach HTML and then go into DTD. === jjesse_ is now known as jjesse === darkforce__ is now known as actuallypopular === actuallypopular is now known as posingaspopular
