=== pcrtech__ is now known as evil_tech [00:20] hi all! [00:20] does anybody uses blender? [00:20] whats blender [00:21] www.blender.org [00:21] nifty [00:24] ? what's nifty? [00:24] i don't know the word, sorry. [00:24] nifty= cool [00:25] :) [00:26] i've just compile the latest svn source of blender and i'm having a little problem, and if someone here uses it i could compare [00:47] hello again [00:54] anyone else trying to use xubuntu with a thinkpad? [00:54] I've used an X41 pretty consistently with several Xubuntu releases [00:55] I have an old one and have sound issues (600E) [00:55] thinking about putting it on my T40 [00:55] neur1: namely, "it doesn't work" or "no sound card detected"? [00:55] thats a common issue with the 600e [00:55] lol yes [00:55] xubuntu mis identifies the soundcard [00:56] neur1: right, fairly easily resolved. Use http://trilug.org/~crimsun/tp-init-snd-cs4236.sh [00:56] ebay special [00:56] neur1: also, make sure fast/quick/easy boot is /disabled/ in bios. [00:56] did the bio's thing [00:57] evil_tech: err, no, it doesn't misidentify it. It's a resource clash with non-compliant hardware. [00:57] pretty common back then, and sadly, even today. [00:57] oh [00:59] the place i got the fix from has the problem labeled wrong [01:00] whoa is that a link to a file to download? [01:00] neur1: yes. [01:01] neur1: it's a community-written script that I modified for *buntu quite some time ago. [01:01] do i save or open with less (default)? [01:01] how do i share an internet connection in xubuntu? [01:02] neur1: save it. [01:02] o.k. [01:03] (you'll need to execute it with sudo) [01:03] open a terminal? [01:03] Unable to contact the Xfce Trash service. anyone know something about this ? [01:05] crimsun, how do I execute? [01:06] neur1: sudo bash tp-init-snd-cs4236.sh [01:07] what if I get no file or directory [01:07] how do I point it to the file [01:08] neur1: did you download it to your desktop? [01:08] it's on the desktop yes [01:08] neur1: then it probably needs to be `sudo bash ~/Desktop/tp-init-snd-cs4236.sh` [01:09] I don't recall offhand if the Desktop entry has the same dirname [01:10] still no file found [01:10] find ~ -name 'tp-init-snd-cs4236.sh' [01:11] (what does that command return?) [01:12] - /home/neuro: is a directory [01:13] you need to copy and paste verbatim what I typed above [01:13] including find? [01:13] yes. [01:13] the entire command /exactly/ as I typed it. [01:14] nothing it goes to a new line [01:14] ok, now replace the '~' with '/' [01:15] permision denied [01:27] neur1: for which command? [01:29] when i changed ~ to / [01:31] find / -name 'tp-init-snd-cs4236.sh' [01:40] should I move it to a home file? [01:40] just download it again and save it to your unprivileged user's home directory [01:48] so just leave it on the desktop for now? [01:48] right, and then run the original command I gave you (using ~/Desktop) [01:49] instead of find [01:49] yes [01:54] this? ~/desktop ~ -name 'tp-init-snd-cs4236.sh' [01:54] no [01:54] sudo bash ~/Desktop/tp-init-snd-cs4236.sh [01:55] the coffee shop is closing here, so I need to go [01:55] o.k. thank you [02:02] if anyone has some experience with my problem, i'd appreciate some help. my roommate is trying to install ubuntu, and I am trying to install xubuntu. i've tried the installer and the alternate installer for version 7.10. We both get the installers to start, and then about 3/4 of the way through the install, our laptops go to a black screen and the install stops dead. any advice??? [02:28] I am noticing that the battery monitor seems to use quite a bit of processor power. Has anyone else noticed this? [02:29] if anyone has some experience with my problem, i'd appreciate some help. my roommate is trying to install ubuntu, and I am trying to install xubuntu. i've tried the installer and the alternate installer for version 7.10. [02:36] merovingian58: I had a similar issue and I could not ever get around it. I ended up installing 7.04 with no issues. I am not sure why, but it might be worth a shot. [02:37] thanks for that. i'm going to try it! [02:39] I cannot assure you that it will work, but all of my 7.04 installs have gone much better than 7.10. Good luck!
