=== tritium_ is now known as tritium
levanderIs Component TV Out just something that's very iffy with the nvidia driver?04:03
tritiumNo, it's pretty good.04:04
levanderI posted a question about not being able to get it to work on nvnews.net, and all I got was some guy making a joke saying the word "Component" is forbidden on that site.04:05
levanderhttp://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=10225204:05
tritiumaww04:05
levanderaww is sarcasm?04:06
tritiumNo, compassion.04:07
tritiumAs in, sorry to hear about what he said.04:07
levandertritium: Lord knows I need it after fooling with this mess...04:07
tritiumlevander: mine was as simple as "TVOutFormat" "COMPONENT" in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf04:08
tritiumI also chose others, such as "TVStandard" "HD720p"04:08
tritiumetc.04:08
levandertritium: I'm about to give up.  You'd think if the nvidia driver knew how to access the HD modes on the TV encoder on this graphics card, that it'd have printed out those modes in Xorg.0.log.04:09
tritiumwhich card?04:09
levanderLeadtek WinFast a620004:09
levanderI know it has the modes because the manual that comes with it has a few pages about how to get them to work in Windows.04:10
CofWYhi everyone, i'm doing my first attempt at setting up mythbuntu, i have an abit-m2hd mobo.  I can't see to get the mythbuntu live cd to start.  I get to the display setting where it warns me about running in low graphic mode, the display is set to 800x600 using generic vesa and it test ok...but then after I click ok, it dumps me at the console, from there what do I do?04:10
levanderCofWY: you can try reconfiguring X to get it to work "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"04:10
levanderdo that command to try to reconfigure X04:11
CofWYthank you let me try that04:11
tritiumSorry, got detached from this screen session when my laptop froze.04:14
levandertritium: it's a Leadtek WinFast a6200 card I'm working with.04:15
levanderI know it has the modes because the manual that comes with it has a few pages about how to get them to work in Windows.04:16
tritiumlevander: ah, okay.04:16
* tritium has a 6150 on-board04:16
MythbuntuGuest09hi... anyone there?05:52
JThundleywe're all bots I'm afraid05:52
MythbuntuGuest09if bots can answer install questions, i'm a bot-lover.05:52
JThundleyinput question here05:53
* JThundley moves his arms like a machine05:53
MythbuntuGuest09i am having trouble with an install... i'm a novice with mythtv.  when i opt for watch TV, i get a blank screen.  i have a video card that has both a VGA and an s-video out, and at this point, i'm just running the vga to my monitor.05:55
MythbuntuGuest09the guide is there, so that part is totally fine.05:56
JThundleyif you get a picture otherwise, the mythtv menu for example, your graphics card is working fine05:56
JThundleya blank picture when you watch tv means your tv tuner is jacked up05:56
MythbuntuGuest09ok... now a question on connectivity...05:56
MythbuntuGuest09can i run my co-ax from the wall to my tv, in order to not have to bother dealing with the connection from my PC to my TV?  Or must I run from the wall to my card, and watch TV off the video card?05:57
JThundleylol, yes, you have to do that. think about it05:58
JThundleyif you run the tv cable from the wall to the TV, the computer can't see any tv shows05:58
JThundleyhow will it record them?05:58
MythbuntuGuest09well i would run the tv to the PC.05:58
JThundleythat would get the computer showing up on the TV05:58
JThundleyso you could watch movies that you download05:59
JThundleybut you can't record tv shows without the cable going to the computer05:59
MythbuntuGuest09well i was thinking wall -> tv -> computer (so the cable would go via tv to PC)06:00
MythbuntuGuest09but ok fine let's go with your scenario.  so i go wall -> computer -> TV.06:00
JThundleyyour tv has cable out?06:00
JThundleyright, that's normal, that's what I've done06:01
MythbuntuGuest09oh... ok i'll copy you.06:01
MythbuntuGuest09so you're saying that blank screen means that i likely incorrectly specified my tuner input?06:02
JThundleyor something else is wrong with it06:02
MythbuntuGuest09i guess then i should take a look at those settings... i'm going to try that...06:02
JThundleyare you sure your tuner is working?06:02
MythbuntuGuest09how would i know if the tuner is working?06:02
JThundleyyou can test your tuner by running mplayer /dev/video006:02
JThundleyhah, it's like I read your mind06:02
MythbuntuGuest09ok i'll try that !  ...06:02
JThundleyany luck?06:06
MythbuntuGuest09nope. so the mplayer trick works fine (i can see tv), but i still get the blank screen from the watch tv menu option.06:10
JThundleywell that's a good thing, it means at least your tuner is working right06:11
MythbuntuGuest09(i'm curious why you are volunteering to answer these questions -- it seems pretty altruistic to me.)06:11
MythbuntuGuest09i am going to take a peak at my input device options... brb06:11
JThundleywell I guess I am06:11
JThundleythat's what I was going to suggest, start messing with all the settings :)06:12
MythbuntuGuest09hmmm so my capture card was incorrectly set to composite 1 instead of tuner 1.06:14
MythbuntuGuest09but after fixing that, i still have the same problem.06:14
JThundleywell since you have /dev/video0 working, you should have the same settings as me06:15
JThundleylet's make sure that your tuner settings are right06:16
JThundleyI think all you have to do is tell it that tuner1 = /dev/video006:16
MythbuntuGuest09yeah, in the input connections section, that is actually exactly what it says... i'm double-checking this...06:17
MythbuntuGuest09that all looks okay.  could it possibly be a video card issue?  maybe when it tries to do tv on the whole screen it's too much to handle, whereas the mplayer window is just fine?06:20
JThundleyI think mythtv uses stuff similar to mplayer06:22
JThundleyyou can easily test this with mplayer though06:22
MythbuntuGuest09any other ideas?06:22
JThundleycheck this out....06:22
JThundleyr i in xv x11 gl ; do mplayer -vo "$i" -fs /dev/video0 ; done06:26
JThundleyfor i in...06:26
JThundleyrun that, it'll mplayer your tuner 3 times with 3 different video output modes06:26
MythbuntuGuest09that seems to be working fine...06:33
MythbuntuGuest09although the 3rd resolution led to very choppy video06:34
MythbuntuGuest09unwatchably choppy06:34
JThundleyyeah, we don't use gl though, don't worry about it06:39
JThundleyxv is the one we use06:39
MythbuntuGuest09hmmm, i don't know what i should have under capture card setup / card type06:41
MythbuntuGuest09analog v4L for my haupt pvr-150?06:41
MythbuntuGuest09ok i see -- mpeg2... maybe that'll fix it... trying...06:44
MythbuntuGuest09yep, that did it... cool!!!! thanks for your help!06:45
JThundleytheeeeere ya go06:51
MythbuntuGuest09ok i do have another question though.  i can see tv on my monitor (via VGA), but i still can't get the TV output back to my TV.  I have a video card that has s-video and vga output.  the s-vido one is the one i'm using, but i can't see any signal...06:52
JThundleyyou're in luck again, that's my setup06:53
JThundleythe mythtv install was a little wonky detecting my TV06:53
JThundleyso you can do what I did and just throw a new xorg config in there06:53
JThundleyor use that mythbuntu control center thing to detect it, if it works it's easy to use06:56
MythbuntuGuest09the control center needs to detect my tv?  will this require me removing the vga connector that currently is plugged into my monitor?06:56
MythbuntuGuest09i've never even heard of xorg.  i'lll try the control center first.06:57
JThundleythe control center can do it all for you06:59
JThundleyxorg is the X window system, the program that gives you graphics and windows and a cursor and stuff07:00
MythbuntuGuest09ok i haven't yet found where to deal with this from within the control center... still looking...07:02
JThundleyyou know what, I don't think it's in there07:04
JThundleyI thought it was07:04
JThundleyare you using an nvidia graphics card?07:05
MythbuntuGuest09not sure.  what's the way to determine that?07:06
JThundleylspci | grep -i nv07:11
MythbuntuGuest09ok it is nvidia07:13
MythbuntuGuest09GeForce4 mx 42007:13
JThundleyok, good07:13
JThundleydo me a favor and do this one too: lsmod | grep nvidia07:13
MythbuntuGuest09nothing with nvidia can be grepped -- lemme browse the lsmod output..07:15
JThundleyif it didn't return anything, you don't have the module loaded07:16
JThundleyso go enable it first, it can be done in the mythbuntu command center07:16
JThundleyin manage proprietary drivers07:16
MythbuntuGuest09ok ... doing07:16
MythbuntuGuest09well, i haven't finished yet, but i'm hopeful.  sadly i have to go to bed, but thanks again for your help.  i really appreciate it.07:24
MythbuntuGuest09tttyl07:24
JThundleysure thing dude07:24

stevetvhi :)09:37
stevetvim having troubles with motion artifacts when watching live tv.. its very annoying09:38
stevetvand recordings09:38
stevetvbut i dont have the problems using mplayer to watch videos... im guessing my problems are settings related in mythtv .. but ive tried so many combinations of settings im becoming frustrated09:39
stevetvusing bob helps.. but also causes the image to become blurred.. which isnt suitable09:40
stevetvwell.. ill keep playing :)10:34
bjweeksI'm running the trunk builds repo and the mythtv package is over a month old and it says there is no update. any way to fix this?12:16

MythbuntuGuest68I have an older WinTV 878 card that Mythbuntu seems to detect alright. Problem is, when I try to "watch live tv" I get a black screen for a few seconds then back to the menu. I watched the output of running "mythtv" from the CLI and it says something about not being able to connect to the socket. Any ideas?17:05
MythbuntuGuest68I'm guessing this means it can't talk to the card properly but I'm not sure where to go from here.17:07
BalachmarHi, mythfilldatabase is complaining about not getting to the url for the program information, but the computer has a internet connection and the webpage does exist and is accessible through firefox17:55
bendaileyBalachmar: proxy?18:19
Balachmarbendailey: no, not that I know of18:20
bendaileydo you have wget installed?18:21
Balachmarfunny thing is, that urllib.urlopen(url) doesn't work with that url, eventhough I am able to open it in firefox18:21
Balachmarwell, it is a python script18:21
Balachmarand previously it worked...18:21
Balachmarwget doesn't work on that url either!18:22
Balachmarstrange... maybe they started blocking automatic downloading... ???18:23

samson--MythbuntuGuest68: have you tried a 'cat /dev/<video device> > /tmp/outputfile.mpg' for a few seconds and then 'mplayer /tmp/outputfile.mpg' to see if your tuner works without mythtv?18:51
MythbuntuGuest68Samson, no I haven't tried that. I will asap. Thanks for the info.19:05
Sjorshi, i'm having trouble connecting from a new frontend system to an existing system (FE+BE). I can connect with mysql (mysql -u mythtv -h 192.168.2.11 -p mythtv, where 192.168.2.11 is the IP address of my backend system). The problem is that mythfrontend says it cannot connect to the master backend, which is set to 192.168.2.11. Any ideas where to look?20:12
Ava-guys when I use the default packages for ubuntu fiesty, when I play a dvd or xvid it isn't passing focus for my remote21:06
