MythbuntuGuest53did anybody else's mythvideo got broke by the trunk build?01:19
=== MythbuntuGuest53 is now known as dattas
Aval0nguys what's the command to make mplayer play dvds in the player settings?01:49
Toxicity999anyone know if the mythplugins suite are being generated in the weekly unstable builds anytime soon? Still old mythplugins in the repo, so tons of version mismatch error calls.01:59
rhpot1991which plugins are you having a problem with?02:04
rhpot1991versions should be the same, 0.20.2 I think02:05
=== MythbuntuGuest37 is now known as dattas
dattasI updated to the newest trunk version of mythbuntu and now i cannot get into mythvideos... can anybody help?02:06
Toxicity999rhpot1991 Like I said, unstable weekly builds,02:06
Toxicity999dattas Unstable too?02:07
dattasyes02:07
dattascrashed once or twice02:07
dattasweirdest thing ever02:07
Toxicity999Same, the plugins aren't uploaded yet for unstable.02:07
dattasi don't think mythtv has ever crashed since02:07
dattaser before that02:07
Toxicity999if you look at the output in a terminal you'll see the plugins all fail to load02:07
Toxicity999and some things will pop up a version inconsistancy warning in myth02:07
dattasi have seen that version inconsistancy as well02:08
dattasoh wow yeah, unable to initialize plugin... and all of them are there...02:08
Toxicity999Yea, then it's nothing to fear... when whoever maintains the unstable repo updates the plugin packages it'll work fine again.02:09
Toxicity999you just can basically only watch Tv 'till then =/02:09
dattasis there an eta?02:09
Toxicity999No clue02:09
Toxicity999I was just asking02:09
dattasdang...02:09
dattaswanted to watch some survive and some totally rad show02:09
Toxicity999the rest of the packages were updated... last night I think it might have been. And plugins isn't a complex build, so I don't know if it just was forgotten or something's going on.02:10
dattasit is not anything with the mythplugins... i re-compliled them all and i still get the same error02:11
dattasit must be the main package02:11
Toxicity999well02:11
Toxicity999you're compiling against the old mythlib still02:11
Toxicity999the versions need to match perfectly, or it doesn't run it.02:11
dattasoh? i thought it said it was updating libmyth...02:11
Toxicity999mines up to date... eh... *shrug*02:12
Toxicity999plus you probably installed to /usr/local (the default)02:12
Toxicity999where the packages float in /usr02:12
Toxicity999best to just wait it out, compiling over it will just possibly make more inconsistencies.02:13
Toxicity999On the site it calls it automated... so with this long of a gapping.. I think there must be a problem no ones seen yet.02:14
dattasi think i might just svn it and see if i can get it to work... i don't like to wait and if i screw it up, i can always just redownload the new trunk build from the automation02:14
dattasi hate waiting... lol02:14
Toxicity999Likewise, I'd do the same if kde-devel weren't broken in ubuntu hardy02:15
Toxicity999I used to do that anyway02:15
Toxicity999I just got lazy.02:15
=== MythbuntuGuest86 is now known as dattas
Toxicity999well there's a section of the bugboards for svn trunk builds.02:16
dattaswhy you not using gutsy?02:16
Toxicity999I always test for ubuntu.02:17
dattasah02:17
Toxicity999Alright wrote up a quick report.02:20
dattaswhere should mythtv be installed to for ubuntu?02:20
Toxicity999well the packages install to /usr but by default compiling installs to /usr/local02:20
dattasah02:20
Toxicity999https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/mythbuntu-trunk/+bug/16326402:21
Toxicity999Someone should see that soon through alerts and such.02:23
dattasyup02:23
dattasin the meantime i am compliling it to /usr :D02:23
dattasnow i just gotta decide if i wanna play GH3 or AC :D02:25
Toxicity999Lol.02:27
Toxicity999Firing up miro to kill some time myself *yawn*02:28
dattaslol i would be doing that except mine is compliling02:31
MythbuntuGuest43Anyone ever seen the following when trying to watch TV: RemoteEncoder::0penControlSocket(): Connection timed out.03:42
rsriverrathello people04:17
rsriverratanyone up tonight that might beable to help me out for a sec?04:18
rsriverrat>can anyone provide the ./configure settings for an svn build i need to do please?04:21
rsriverratcan anyone provide the ./configure settings for an svn build i need to do please?04:53
rhpot1991anyone have any idea if transcoding works on backends when the files are located on another backend, my systems seem to fail when that is the case05:20
MythbuntuGuest85hello... anyone here care to answer an install question about display configurations?05:26
Wy|laptopSure, what sort?05:33
MythbuntuGuest85ok, cool... here's my issue.05:38
MythbuntuGuest85i have an nvidia gforce4, with s-video out.  i've enabled the proprietary driver that comes with mythbuntu.  i would like a mirror display setting so that i can always plug in a monitor to change settings, etc.  but i also want the main display to be my s-video-attached TV.  there seems to be no way to do this.  what do you recommend instead?05:40
Aval0nwhat's the best app for playing dvd's from mythtv?05:55
Aval0nthe internal player gets the languages wrong all the time, and mplayer doesn't have dvd menus...05:56
toorimaxine is popular06:04
Aval0nexcellent06:04
Aval0ndo you happen to know the package name?06:04
toorimagxine i think06:05
toorimasudo apt-get install gxine06:05
Aval0ncool thanks06:05
toorimanp06:06
Aval0nI guess that means more lircrc stuff to setup06:06
Aval0n*sigh*06:06
toorimaxine is normaly in the lircrc already06:06
Wy|laptopMythbuntu-guest: use the nvidia display utility06:07
Wy|laptopAvalon: I just use mplayer.. it does too have dvd menus06:07
Wy|laptopAlso, you should be able to activate xine in mythbuntu from a single button-press06:08
Wy|laptopin mythcontrolcenter06:08
rsriverrathey since there are some people talking now i have a ?06:11
Aval0nmythcontrolcenter?06:12
Aval0nnever heard of it06:12
Wy|laptopAval0n: Are you using Mythbuntu?06:12
Aval0nno06:12
Aval0nfeisty06:12
Wy|laptop:P06:12
* Wy|laptop points at /topic06:12
Aval0n:)06:12
Aval0nheheeh sorry06:12
rsriverratdoes anyone know the proper ./configure settings for mythbuntu when compiling from svn06:12
Wy|laptoper .. what part of mythbuntu are you compiling, rsriverrat?06:13
rsriverratmythtv trunk06:13
rsriverratand/or.20- fixes06:13
Wy|laptopAval0n: check out mythbuntu, then. it's a gutsy based myth-centric distro06:14
Wy|laptoprsriverrat: not sure. Shouldn't it be system specific?06:14
Wy|laptopI mean, specific to your system settings06:14
rsriverratwell what i actually need is the install prefix, for example knoppmyth is /usr06:14
Wy|laptopwhy aren't you making debs?06:15
rsriverratto be honest, all ive ever done is compile from svn and then a make and make install, ive obly used fedora and knoppmyth06:15
rsriverratnew to mythbuntu06:16
Wy|laptopAh, that's why.06:16
Wy|laptopThe 'debian' way is to make a package, then install the package06:16
rsriverratohhhh k.... is that hard?06:16
Wy|laptopinstead of compiling from source and make install06:16
Wy|laptopnope.06:16
rsriverrati can use my patched source to make the .deb?06:17
Wy|laptopread http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt-howto/ch-sourcehandling.en.html06:17
rsriverrati will have a read of that tomorrow, thanks06:18
Wy|laptopYeah, that way if you upgrade your package in the future, it doesn't leave crap all over the place06:19
rsriverrati noticed when i tried compiling and installing svn tonight that mythbackend was never upgraded, even after reboot, so something is awry06:19
Wy|laptop=)06:19
rsriverrati am sure making debs will still require a location to install too06:20
rsriverrator will it not?06:20
Wy|laptopiirc, it should use the same parameters as the package you're building from06:22
Aval0nxine -pfhq --no-splash dvd:/06:22
Aval0nis that right?06:22
Aval0ncause it's not launching my dvd06:22
Wy|laptopWhy are you fscing with the svn packages, anyways, rs?06:23
Wy|laptopAvalon: dvd:// ?06:23
Wy|laptopoops, my bad06:23
Wy|laptopAvalon: do you have libdvdcss2?06:24
rsriverratthere are certain patches i have to apply to allow true dvb sat scanning06:24
rsriverrat5 diffs changing about 10 files total06:24
Wy|laptoprsriverrat: and you're sure they're not in myth already?06:24
rsriverrati know for a fact06:24
Aval0nyeah I do06:24
Aval0ni've been playing dvd's with mplayer and mythtv internal06:25
Wy|laptopaval0n: what happens if you just launch xine and then select dvd manually? does it work?06:25
Wy|laptoprs: did you submit the bug into launchpad as well?06:25
Wy|laptopfor the future, I mean06:25
rsriverrati have the procedure down to a science, ive even made a script to automate it06:26
rsriverratwell its not a bug i have really06:26
Wy|laptopsure, but woulnd't it be better to move it into the base package so that you can stop needing to do that?06:26
Wy|laptopand help out others?06:26
Aval0nI don't have kb/mouse hooked up to this thing06:26
Aval0nso it's hard to test stuff like that06:26
Wy|laptopaval0n: heh, I have a little usb keyboard for just that reason06:27
toorimam206:27
rsriverratwell what i am doing isnt exactly 100% legal, it is but it isnt, its kinda a gray area06:27
toorimaAval0n: vnc?06:27
Wy|laptoprs: *grin* and libdvdcss2 is?06:28
rsriverrati want to watch nasa on a dish net satellite, its a free channel, however myth doesnt scan north american sats unless it has these patches06:28
rsriverratwell ok point well taken06:29
Wy|laptoprs: *laugh* I know I'm being silly, but you'd think that for nasaTV, it'd be easier to point mythstream to the nasa webpage06:29
rsriverrattechnically the patches are legal, its the *other* software that makes it illegal06:30
Wy|laptopeh?06:30
Aval0nnow I have this big grey box playing over the DVD06:30
Aval0nxine settings06:31
Aval0nlol06:31
Aval0ndoes that always pop up?06:31
rsriverratin either case i have to rebuild mythtv and install my new patched version of mythtv06:31
Aval0nis svn a lot better than .20.2?06:31
rsriverratWy: are u familiar with dvb sat cards at all06:32
Wy|laptoprs: not really06:32
rsriverratok, well u can get dish programming with *other* software06:32
Wy|laptopavalon: odd. what are you using for vid drivers? Like I said, we'r emostly on mythbuntu here06:32
Wy|laptopand xine / mplayer are a LOT better on mythbuntu vs feisty06:33
rsriverratthe patched mythtv just allows u to scan dish network sats is all06:33
rsriverratin the past with either fedora or knoppmyth after i patched myth i would run06:34
rsriverratsudo ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-dvb --enable-xvmc --enable-proc-opt --enable-xvmc06:34
Aval0nnvidia drivers06:34
Wy|laptopopen source or nvidia ones?06:34
Aval0nyou have enable xvmc twice :)06:34
Aval0nthe glx drivers06:34
rsriverratscratch the sudo part, thats from my current script06:34
Aval0nit's gone now after i've rebooted myth06:35
Aval0nI see the mouse cursor for a second or two though lol06:35
Wy|laptopaval0n: odd. does it work now?06:35
Aval0nyes06:35
Aval0nbut oddly it looks interlaced06:36
Wy|laptophrm. you're doing video-out?06:36
Wy|laptopI output to a projector, so ...06:36
Aval0nhdmi out06:36
Wy|laptop=)06:36
Wy|laptopAval0n: nice. dvi > hdmi adapter?06:36
Aval0nno just hdmi06:37
Aval0nand it carries my audio to the TV06:37
Wy|laptopnice.06:37
Aval0n:)06:37
Wy|laptopwhat card?06:37
Aval0n7300gs06:37
Wy|laptopheh. I have one in mine right now, didn't know that it had a HDMI out version06:37
Aval0nwow xine is like doign english and not french!06:37
Aval0nlol06:37
Aval0nmti makes the one with hdmi out06:37
Wy|laptopI have a HD2400 that isn't in that machine that does hdmi06:38
Aval0ndoes xine have a skip to root menu option?06:38
Aval0ncool06:38
Wy|laptopavalon: no, but you can hit fast forward a few times06:38
Wy|laptopiirc06:38
Aval0nhmm ok06:38
Aval0nthe interlacing is weirding me out06:38
Wy|laptophrm.06:40
Wy|laptoptry using the deinterlacing flag06:40
rsriverrati just did a sudo apt-get source mythtv, and i think i found what i was looking for06:42
Wy|laptoprs: *grin*06:42
rsriverratsettings.pro says the install prefix is /usr/local06:42
rsriverratinstead of /usr06:42
Aval0nhmmm so mplayer does dvd menus?06:43
Aval0nit wasn't for me06:43
Wy|laptopAval0n: yeah, I'm using the default one here06:43
Wy|laptoprs: makes sense.06:43
Wy|laptoptoo lazy to change things if it works06:43
rsriverratby doing that last command that got me the mythbuntu mythtv source correct?06:43
Wy|laptopI used to use xine, though,b ecause mplayer didn't when I was using gentoo for my myth box06:44
Wy|laptoprs: yeah06:44
Aval0nwhat is your command string for mplayer wy?06:44
rsriverratok cool i'll give it a shot, will you be on tomorrow night? if so i'll let you know how it goes06:44
Wy|laptopavalon: I'd have to go downstairs to check the htpc06:45
Wy|laptopbut remember I am using a newer version of mplayer06:45
Wy|laptoprs: someone will be.06:45
Wy|laptopOdds are I will be on, but idle :P06:46
rsriverratWyl: thanks for the tips, if i can get this to build and install correctly i will give making debs a go, i love linux but sometimes old school works too06:50
rsriverratnow if i can get the mythmusic deps figured out i'll be good to go06:53
rsriverratlibmad and libid3tag are required, of which i have both06:53
MythbuntuGuest55can anyone tell me what I should have my dvd rom listed under in /media?  Trying to add a dvd post-installation...06:55
Sjorshi, i'm having trouble connecting from a new frontend system to an existing system (FE+BE). I can connect with mysql (mysql -u mythtv -h 192.168.2.11 -p mythtv, where 192.168.2.11 is the IP address of my backend system). The problem is that mythfrontend says it cannot connect to the master backend, which is set to 192.168.2.11. Any ideas where to look?07:07

MythbuntuGuest90anybody around?21:55
tgm4883_laptopMythbuntuGuest90, ask your question22:18
MythbuntuGuest90whoops, started shopping around and didn't notice you responded22:23
MythbuntuGuest90anyway, I've got tiny fonts. DPI is 38x46. Don't know how to enlarge them22:24
MythbuntuGuest90tried using the mythbuntu settings, those that I could read22:24
MythbuntuGuest90tried editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and addint Option "DPI" "96x96"22:24
MythbuntuGuest90restarted the xserver and saw no change22:25
JThundleymy fonts were too small too, I changed them all through the gui though22:28
JThundleymythtv fonts in mythtv's setup menus and application fonts in xfce control center dealie22:29
MythbuntuGuest90yeah, the setup menu didn't seem to work, although maybe I just couldn't see what I was changing22:32
MythbuntuGuest90xfce control center I couldn't see anything at all22:32
MythbuntuGuest90I'll try hooking up another monitor, maybe that will help22:32
JThundleyit's in there, poke around22:32
JThundleydefinately hook up a monitor so you can read the text :)22:32
JThundleyI'm running a 1024x768 resolution on a normal TV and I have everything readable22:33

=== Tar1 is now known as Tari
Lazarushi there, im trying to make a little diagram of what id need to setup a mythtv box23:25
Lazarushow exactly did some of you do it23:25
Lazarusdid you need a coaxial/usb converter?23:26
NeoFaxLazarus: What hardware do u currently have?23:26
Lazaruswell, i have a pinnacle coaxial/usb converter23:27
Lazarusand an old box23:27
Lazarusfrom year 2000 or so23:27
Lazaruslike 400 mhz processor23:27
Lazarus128 mb ram23:27
NeoFaxDo u have a TV Card?  Also, what r u planning to do with it?23:27
Lazarusprobably 16-32 mb video card23:28
NeoFaxWith those specs, I don't think Myth will work for u23:28
LazarusNeoFax: just implement a cop out of tivo23:28
NeoFaxNot a video card, but a TV card23:28
NeoFaxOK, for Myth to work you will ned a TV card.  I recommend a Hauppauge PVR-500 as it has a mpeg decoder built on the board23:29
LazarusNeoFax: what do you mean by tv card23:29
NeoFaxU will also need at least a 800Mhz CPU, 1GB of RAM and 80GB of Hard Drive space23:29
LazarusNeoFax: ah, i see23:30
LazarusNeoFax: thats the bare minimum?23:30
NeoFaxA TV Card is exactly that.  It turns a TV signal into 1's and 0s23:30
NeoFaxNo, but that is a fairly decent system for a PVR-500 system.  Unless you want to use it as dual purpose like I do23:30
LazarusNeoFax: im very cheap, i wouldnt waste good hardware23:31
Lazarusi have a coaxial to usb23:32
Lazarusso i guess thats what youre referring to23:32
NeoFaxThat hardware you have is designed for hooking a camcorder to a computer and downloading the video from it.  With a 400Mhz system you will get choppy video as it will have to drop frames to keep up with the camcorder.23:32
LazarusNeoFax: no, its not23:33
Lazarusits for watching cable tv on your computer23:33
Lazarusi got it from my dad23:33
NeoFaxThe best bet for that 400Mhz system would be to install IPCop on it and turn it into a firewall or install a server type linux system on it and turn it into a media server/file server23:33
Lazaruscomes with a little remote23:33
LazarusNeoFax: would Mythbuntu run?23:33
NeoFaxYes, just slow23:34
NeoFaxonly in the TV part23:34
NeoFaxAs that is where the CPU is being taxed23:34
LazarusNeoFax: yeah23:34
LazarusNeoFax: i could probably get away with using something even lighter than xfce like icewm or fluxbox23:35
NeoFaxXFCE is fine and light enough.  However, if that Pinnacle does not have a built-in decoder/encoder the CPU will have to do this.  Go to Mythtv.org to see the min specs they recommend23:36
LazarusNeoFax: alright23:37
