Cygnetanyone have experience with the hauppage wintv pvr 150 mce?01:35
tgm4883Cygnet, what about it?01:35
Cygnetmythbuntu isn't seeing it and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong or if there's something really dumb and obvious I missed or what01:35
tgm4883Cygnet, fresh install?01:35
tgm4883it should be recognized out of the box01:36
Cygnetxubuntu with mythbuntu installed on top01:36
Cygnetthe box isn't doing anything else except running an irc bot01:36
tgm4883hmm01:38
tgm4883what happened when you tried to add it via mythtv-setup01:39
foxbuntuCygnet, have you checked dmesg?01:39
foxbuntuif not please post it in pastebin01:39
CygnetI get the screen where you choose the card type01:39
Cygnetfoxbuntu, I'll do that now01:39
Cygnethttp://pastebin.ubuntu.com/236901:41
CygnetI tried the MPEG-2 encoder (PVR x50) type because that seemed like the most likely one but it said it couldn't open the card01:42
foxbuntuCygnet, do this01:43
foxbuntudmesg | grep ivtv01:44
foxbuntuand pastebin that01:44
Cygnetok01:44
Cygnetgot nothing01:44
foxbuntuthen your card either isnt install, or more likley not working01:44
foxbuntuwas the card installed when you setup the xbuntu box from the start?01:45

CygnetI just put it in today01:45
tgm4883lspci01:45
foxbuntuCygnet, yes..do an lspci and post it01:46
Cygnetand I was trying to use a different TV tuner thing (a USB box) but that didn't work so I got the wintv card01:46
foxbuntuCygnet, I run two of those exact cards..they work pretty well01:47
Cygnethttp://pastebin.ubuntu.com/237001:47
tgm4883i don't see it listed01:48
Cygnetthe computer had 2 free pci slots but the first one there was no screw for the cover and it didn't seem to actually come off at all, so I put it in the second one01:49
foxbuntuCygnet, that should be fine unless there is something wrong with your machine01:50
Cygnetit's one of those linspire boxes that they used to sell at fry's01:51

mindframe_any guides on creating a diskless frontend w/ mythbuntu?02:28
samson--mindframe_: you looking to do a pxe boot or something?02:56
mindframe_yes02:56
samson--mindframe_: i'd look at a pxeboot distribution and add in the mythtv parts to it02:56
mindframe_can i ask your opinion on something?02:56
samson--sure02:57
mindframe_the box i'm using as a frontend is quite powerful... AMD 6000+ /  2GB memory.  should i even worry about making it diskless?02:58
mindframe_i can put all my tuners in it02:58
samson--i personally only have a BE/FE system with dual SD tuners, it is not nearly as powerful as yours02:59
samson--and it is plenty powerful/has plenty of storage02:59
mindframe_i plan on doing a good bit of hd with it02:59
mindframe_i was thinking of putting the tuners in my desktop system which has a lot of storage03:00
samson--in the future I will add in various frontends, but they will not be as beefy as yours03:00
mindframe_i guess i can just tell the be/fe to use an nfs share03:00
samson--i'm just not sure what you would use all that processing power for in a frontend system03:00
samson--in a BE, it could be put to work doing transcoding and multiple HD streams03:01
samson--but admittedly I dont have as much experience in building BE, FE, BE/FE systems as some of the others in here03:02
=== samson-- is now known as LairSpirit

samson--ahh03:04
samson--that been working pretty well?03:04
mindframe_yeah it's excellent... just underpowered03:04
mindframe_cant play h264 or anything03:05
mindframe_the linux xbmc project will be interesting once it comes to fruition03:05
mindframe_im gonna move the xbmc to the bedroom now03:06
mindframe_do you know of any issues with the amd64 build of mythbuntu?03:06
S10LoLoim having some trouble getting xbmxmythtv to connect to my backend database keep getting the error "Failed to connect to mysql db Conn". I can connect from my other frontends just fine, just not the xbox. Is it not compatible with mythbuntu 7.10 yet?04:19
S10LoLojust noticed a typo.. thats xbmc mythtv04:28
tgm4883S10LoLo, well I would check to see what protocol that it is trying to work with04:43
tgm4883mythbuntu uses mythtv 20.2 unless your running trunk04:44
S10LoLoxbmcmythtv was defaulting to 30, i hadnt read anything about having to change that04:52
S10LoLoalthough it tells me 20.2 - invalid integer supplied04:54

S10LoLohow can i check what protocol my mythtv backend is running?05:06
S10LoLothis protocol thing has me confused here... i am running mythbuntu 7.10 and using xbmcmythtv-0.20.34b on my xbox... which protocol should I set to use in xbmcmythtv?05:29

mpathyHi there.. How difficult is it to get a almos Mythbuntu installation on a Mac Mini? (PPC) because it has not more than 20W power consumption and the perfect HTPC becaus of that.. Havent the money for a x00 Watt HTPC.. Germanys power prices are expensive! :)10:43
frink_I duno if u can get mythbuntu for PPC10:50
frink_but you can get ubuntu for it10:50
frink_and apt-get the mythtv bits10:50
frink_Do you want a front end or backend and what TV receiver will you use?10:51
frink_Or you could just get a small x86 mini/micro ATX motherboard with a minimal processor and use that, it'd be smiliarly low on power.10:51
frink_or a laptop10:51
mpathyfrink_: I want to use something like the standard requirements.. and the Mac Mini has those..11:48
mpathyfrink_: What does Mythbuntu other than Ubuntu + MythTV packages?11:49
mpathyfrink_: I want frontend and backend on it, and I will use a USB DVB-S device11:49
superm1mpathy, you can install mythbuntu-desktop to get the other items11:50
superm1they (should) all work on all arch's11:50
superm1but they have only been tested on i386 and amd6411:51
mpathysuperm1: the metapackage works also on PPC? that would be great11:52
superm1mpathy, i believe that i added a ppc arch when building it back on gutsy, but i never had hardware to build the live disk or test it11:52
superm1http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=mythbuntu-desktop&searchon=names&subword=1&version=gutsy&release=all11:53
superm1yeah it should work for you11:53
superm1get me a ppc this cycle and i'll see about mastering and testing a ppc mythbuntu disk :)11:53
mpathysuperm1: great, I try it. should I then start from a server install?11:57
superm1mpathy, that's up to you11:57
superm1i'd probably say command line system install11:58
superm1rather than server install11:58
mpathyyes I meant that. ubuntus description of it is very unclear.. I didnt mean ubuntu-server but ubuntu -> server install from the boot menu11:58
superm1mpathy, hopefully all works well, if so we might be getting you to do some future ppc testing if you would be up for it12:00
mpathysuperm1: Sure, you can note me for that..12:01

Davieyawww13:30
Davieyi see.13:30
DavieyWell tbh, i only started running mythbuntu when my backend blew up13:31
Davieyseemed little point migrating from a working ubuntu system.. but the *bang* gave me the excuse13:31
frink_it blew up? What happened? :(13:31
Davieypsu fan died, got hot - smoked - blew PSU fuse..13:32
directhex|bspmy 7.10 upgrade went... badly13:32
Davieyhow so?13:32
directhex|bspsystem froze midway, journal wasn't as transactional as journals are meant to be13:33
frink_oh13:33
frink_Well we had an ext3 filesystem die last week.13:33
directhex|bspsome things got corrupted. config files, libc, stuff like that13:33
frink_I thought it was the disk array, but it all seems fine.13:33
Davieyi've had my myth old_recorded (sp?) table marked as corrupted twice in 2 weeks13:40
DavieyMight have been due to lack of space tho..13:40

mindframe-anyone have a recommendation for finding a proper modeline for a LG 32FS4D ?  I have no idea on technical specifications for this TV and can't find anything anywhere about it.  The edges of my screen are cut off.16:02
tgm4883mindframe-, lcd?16:24
padanI dont really need the tv-capture capabilities at this time (although i may want it later), but what I really want is something that an idiot (such as the people i live with) will be able to browse through my movies/tv stuff and play16:25
padansort of like the dlink media center which i hav enow16:25
padanis mythtv the right thing to be looking into for this?16:25
tgm4883padan, mythtv would work for that16:25
tgm4883you'll still have to setup the backend portion though16:25
padanso the fact that i dont care about tv capture is ok?  I can just ignore this part during the setup?16:26
padanI would just put backend/frontend on the same box16:26
padanand nfs mount the media archive16:26
tgm4883since you may want it later i'd go with mythtv.  Then when you get to the part for capture card and such, you won't need to enter anything16:26
tgm4883although the watch tv thing will still show up IIRC16:27
padanthats fine... i'll condition the users with a cattle prod16:27
tgm4883sounds good16:28
mindframe-tgm4883, widescreen HD CRT16:33
tgm4883mindframe-, did you check the tv setting for an adjustment there?16:37
mindframe-in mcc?16:39
tgm4883no on your TV16:39
tgm4883mine was the same16:39
tgm4883kinda like on an old CRT monitor16:39
mindframe-like messing with the aspect?16:39
tgm4883no, like horizontal and vertical adjustment16:40
mindframe-oh, no16:40
mindframe-i don't think it has that16:40
mindframe-i looked for settings in it last night and i've been through em 50 times before16:40
mindframe-sucks16:40
tgm4883k16:40
tgm4883i didn't think that my Flat panel LCD had them either16:40
tgm4883i'll look around a little bit for some settings on your tv, but it will probably be awhile as I got to go to class16:41
mindframe-i might try and contact LG for specifications.. don't think i'll have much luck16:41
mindframe-thanks!16:41
mindframe-i scoured google last night16:41
mindframe-this 32FS4D which was really an AU model was sold as a 30FS4D16:42
mindframe-i think it's the same thing16:42

the_alienis my english that bad? :/17:21

frink_Youe english is great!17:22
the_alienhmmm this 2 second thing is pretty annoying17:23
mindframe-the_alien, what happens when you browse the web with that same pc?  any delays?17:25

the_alienhmmmm, the gui seems to be pretty fast17:26

the_aliennot the mythtv one17:26
mindframe-can you ssh into it and watch top while you browse through the mythtv gui?17:27
the_alieni think i have to throw this goddamn network cable out of the window...17:29

mindframe-hah yes19:38
padani just installed mythbuntu and the very first thing I am wondering is if there is a way to speed up the menus?  there is a lag time going between no only screens, but just menu items... it can't be the box.. its a dual core amd with 2gb of mem and a nv 850020:27
tgm4883_laptoppadan, did you install your restricted drivers?20:29
padanno... do the proprietary nv drivers work better than the open source ones?20:30
padani figured the open source ones should work well since nv is fairly good about playing nice with linux kernel developers20:30
Davieypadan: Have you changed the painter to be openGL?20:31
DavieyQt is generally faster20:31
Daviey^ Qt default.20:31
padani jus tchanged the painter to opengl... qt was defaulted20:31
padani haven't rebooted yet so i haven't seen the opengl change20:31
padani will try the restricted nv drivers20:31
padanand see if that makes a difference20:31
padanok way better!20:34
padanthanks again tgm20:35
padannow next question is what is the best way, for mythtv, for me to nfs mount my media archive?20:35
padanis there a menu option in mythtv or should i just do this on the OS level?20:35
tgm4883_laptopcurrently you should do it on the OS level, in the future there should be a gui for that (for music, pictures, and movies)20:37
padank20:38
Davieypadan: I'd avoid NFS mounting your storage on your backend if i were you20:39
DavieyI did it for a while.. sure it works - but IMO it isn't ideal20:39
mindframe-what's wrong with that?20:40
Davieyunless ofcourse you have a decent switch etc20:40
mindframe-i bought a gigabit switch for it :)20:40
mindframe-dell 8 port20:40
DavieyAh.. i did it with an el cheapo 10/10020:40
padanwhy?20:43
padani have like 6 tb of storage in my storage server20:43
tgm4883_laptopI did it over wifi.......ok, no i didn't20:43
padanheh20:43
padanand gigabit all over20:43
padanwith tcp offloadable nics20:44
padanand jumbo frames20:44
padan:P20:44

padanelite.20:44
tgm4883_laptopword has it that superm1 uses 2 tin cans and some string20:44
padanwhy does mythtv need write permission to the media directories?20:45
padanlike what is it going to do?20:45
tgm4883_laptopafaik, it shouldn't20:46
tgm4883_laptopjust the recording dir20:46
Davieytgm4883_laptop: no, superm1 memorises a file of hex then retypes it on his storage box20:46
padanok... because it explicity says that it needs write when I am adding the directory20:46
tgm4883_laptopDaviey, i thought it was binary?20:47
padani jus twant to make sure its not going to reorganize everything since there are multiple devices accessing the data20:47

tgm4883_laptopk21:24
tgm4883_laptopdo we have the iso's on there?  what would happen if we didn't?  I wouldn't want all our mirrors to delete the iso's if they are unavailable21:25
DavieyI don't even know the fs structure for the iso's+rsync21:25
tgm4883_laptopI think bendailey set that all up21:25
Davieythe iso's aren't there yet, no21:25
tgm4883_laptopk21:26
Davieyprobably best if he does it again then21:26
tgm4883_laptopi'd like to setup just the new iso's then21:26
Davieyagreed21:26
tgm4883_laptopcause the old ones were supposed to be deleted awhile ago21:26
tgm4883_laptopand I think im at or over my limit currently at osuosl.21:27
bendaileytgm4883_laptop: are we talking about rsyncing isos?21:27
tgm4883_laptopyep21:27
tgm4883_laptopbendailey, you set that up for us right?21:27
bendaileyyes I think so21:27
tgm4883_laptopk21:27
tgm4883_laptopso were going to need it setup again21:27
tgm4883_laptopand i think it can be started anytime.  Right Daviey21:28
bendaileyI wrote a push script for superm1 for sure is that still around?21:28
tgm4883_laptopmaybe, not sure.  I know some mirrors only update via rsync though21:28
mckimwe only do an rsync pull21:28
bendaileyyeah I think most do rsync pulls but my mirrors are only available via ftp push21:29
tgm4883_laptopok, well were not releasing any iso's for a few weeks, so is it possible to set this up next week bendailey?21:30
Davieybendailey: I've been doing your FTP pushes IIRC21:30
tgm4883_laptopand only setup the current release iso21:30
bendaileythanks Daviey do you still have the script?21:30
Davieyi hope so :)21:31
bendaileydid I here that we lost the download stats?21:31
Davieya months worth21:31
tgm4883_laptoplike i said, osuosl was nice enough to host our iso, i don't want to abuse the service, and was told under 2GB21:31
bendaileyok I started using bzr and love it21:31
Daviey:)21:31
Davieybendailey: if you set up the rsync server, can you again?21:32
bendaileywould now be a good time to update & start bzr branch of the download script21:32
Davieyerm21:32
bendaileyyeah I can set it up again any backups of /etc/rsyncd.conf by chance?21:32
Davieynope21:32
Davieyi can check21:33
tgm4883_laptopsorry mckim, i guess i probably should have stopped by osuosl and let you guys know what was going on21:33
Davieybendailey: nope not there21:33
bendaileyok can you pm the login info for the server? do you still have the ssh pub keys?21:34
Davieyyour ssh pub key?21:34
bendaileyyeah21:35
Davieynope21:35
bendaileyI think I gave it to superm1 when I did the original rsync setup21:35
mckimtgm4883_laptop: Well, I'm not so worried about my failure notices now. :-)21:35
Davieyif you pm me that, i could sort that?21:35
bendaileyso you want me to pm you my ssh pub key? Are you ready for rsync setup?21:37
tgm4883_laptopmckim, ok, so Daviey is bringing the website back up on that box, and bendailey will bring the rsync back up.  Once both are setup, we should be able to swing dns back to frink_'s box (which is where everything was originally stored).  I don't recall offhand which address the rsync is setup for, so you may have to wait for the dns21:39
tgm4883_laptopDaviey, bendailey does ^^ sound about right?21:39
Davieysounds good21:39
tgm4883_laptopok then.  class ended early, so im heading home.  If anyone needs me ping tgm4883 and I should be back in about 30 minutes21:40
mckimtgm4883_laptop: sounds great.21:43
Davieyrsync will be working by the end of the weekend21:46
bendaileybye21:48
Davieyhmm.. possibly the best mATX mb out there for myth? http://www.inno3d.com/products/motherboard/Sl73um_hdmi.html21:50
DavieyVGA + DVI + HDMI and nVidia21:50
directhexDaviey, IF, and only if, it does digital audio via hdmi21:53
Davieydirecthex: well linux + hdmi audio is crappy atm21:53
directhexDaviey, well, it shouldn't (in theory) be any worse than linux with spdif21:53
Davieydirecthex: take a gander at launchpad21:54
Davieyhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+bug/14809721:54
directhexoh, i believe it can suck, it just shouldn't ;)21:54
directhexalsa's terrible at moving with the times21:54
directhexit took 3 releases before my office pc had sound21:54
Daviey:(21:54
directhexand know what? it was a 3-line fix21:54
directhex1-line if you do it in a more lazy fashion21:55
Davieyhehe21:55
DavieyI did manage to get some HDMI audio working... but it was the early hours and i don't know even what kernel is was21:56
williammandahey22:11
williammanda i'm trying to get mythvideo working22:12
williammanda on playback...I don't get any audio until I hit the left arrow22:12
williammanda any ideas22:12
williammanda I have used mplayer and xine as the default player22:12
Triskaidekaphobiis this the 'official' channel for mythbuntu support?22:38
tgm4883Triskaidekaphobi, yes22:39
Triskaidekaphobithank you tgm4883, then on to my quandary: after a power outage (due to heavy snowstorm weather in the northern tundra) i cannot access any of my previously recorded shows, the schedule of shows to be recorded, or even schedule a show to record (via guide or manual). would love some suggestions as i'm about ready to start over from scrap22:42
Triskaidekaphobitgm4883: don't go too far, please, my daughter is calling me urgently.... brb....22:42
tgm4883_laptopTriskaidekaphobi, use MCC to optimize your database, then enter mythtv-setup/exit mythtv-setup so it runs mythfilldatabase22:42
tgm4883_laptopI had that same problem before22:43
williammandahey guys22:43
tgm4883_laptophey williammanda22:45
williammandai installed mythdvd & mythvideo.....22:48
williammandahow can I get all the computers to see what each has ripped?22:48
tgm4883_laptopwell you would have to share each dir with the others22:49
tgm4883_laptopbecause mythvideo and mythdvd do not get transfered via the mythtv protocol22:49
williammandai have nfs setup on each computer and share the home dir22:49
Triskaidekaphobitgm4883_laptop: thanks, will try that now...22:50
tgm4883_laptopthe easiest way to do it IMO, is to share with NFS, then mount each shared computers drive inside a folder (ie, /var/lib/mythtv/videos/comp1, /var/lib/mythtv/videos/comp2, etc)22:50
tgm4883_laptopthen point the frontend to /var/lib/mythtv/videos22:51
tgm4883_laptopand it should search recursively22:51
tgm4883_laptopdoes that make sense?22:51
williammandayes it does but where do I enter the info for the frontend?22:52
tgm4883_laptopok, you will have to mount those on each frontend.  Then in the frontend, go to settings > media settings (i think thats what it's called) and set the dir to whereever you mounted it to.  I believe the default is /var/lib/mythtv/videos, so if you mount the nfs shares inside of that, then it should work after you mount the shares22:54
williammandasettings > media settings > general settings > directory that holds videos ?22:57
tgm4883_laptopUtilities/setup > setup > media settings > video settings > general settings > dir that holds videos22:58
williammandadoesn't that field tell myth where to store the ripped videos?23:00
WcktKlwndoes anyone know how to move the watch video's to the front below the watch tv option?23:01
tgm4883_laptopno, that would be under DVD settings > rip settings23:01
tgm4883_laptopsec23:02
tgm4883_laptopif you notice, when your at the area that you can change that "Dir that holds videos", you will notice at the bottom that it says it only needs read permission23:03
WcktKlwnhey tgm4883_laptop, if you share the mythtv/video's do I have to enter imdb info on the remote frontend's?23:06
WcktKlwnor does it pull down from the backend23:07
tgm4883hmm, thats a good question, let me check23:07
tgm4883WcktKlwn, looks like you only need to pull the data once23:12
WcktKlwncool, thanks23:13
williammandatgm4883 your suggestion sounds very much like what I already have....23:49
williammandaI have nfs....example...computer name/home/dvd....23:50
williammandaI store each video in the "DVD" sud dir23:51
williammandaon each computer23:51
williammandawhen I pull up "Watch Videos" it gives me all the videos from all computers23:52
williammandabut I can only view the resident videos on each computer23:52
tgm4883ok, lets break this down so I am understanding your right23:53
tgm4883on frontend123:53
tgm4883you can see all the videos that are stored on frontend2, frontend3, etc, but can't play them?23:53
tgm4883you can only play videos on frontend1 that are stored on frontend1?23:53
williammandayes23:54
williammandaI will give you my setup...23:54
tgm4883ok, and on encoder2, you have mounted the nfs share from encoder 1?23:54
williammandacomputers: C2D & PIV3G23:55
williammandaboth computers have videos ripped before myth and after...23:56
williammandaI used RIP|DVD before and myth to record dvds23:57
williammandaon both computers I can see the videos through "watch videos" in myth23:58
Triskaidekaphobitgm4883_laptop: looks good, thanks23:58
tgm4883np23:58
williammandathe icon shows them as a file...23:58
williammandai select the file...23:58
williammandaI get a tmp and vob file23:59
williammandai select the vob file23:59
williammandathen I select the vob23:59
