=== JordanC is now known as JordanC[Bedness] [02:38] hi guys [02:38] im trying to preseed edubuntu [02:38] i have this line but it doesn't seem to work, i get no gui [02:38] tasksel tasksel/first multiselect standard,edubuntu-desktop [02:55] anyone? === Am|Birthday is now known as Amaranth === RichEd-1 is now known as RichEd [12:41] Hi - I'm putting together a computer from spare parts for my neighbour's ~6 year old kid, and edubuntu seems a good choice for the OS. Looking at the wiki, I can find suggested hardware requirements for thin clients and servers for LTSP, but not for a standalone machine - any idea what it will run on? [12:42] or is it just the same as ubuntu for that case? does it use gnome for the desktop? [12:46] ojwb: same as ubuntu ... and yes GNOME [12:46] but it also has kde apps [12:49] sure, I was meaning "rather than being based on xubuntu" really [12:50] yep ... edbuntu is more or less ubuntu with an edubuntu-desktop package on top ... additional education applications, younger/simpler look & feel [16:08] bonjour à tous [16:08] le channel est français ou anglais [16:09] english, even though i think some here would understand french [16:10] ok. First of all, I'm a newbie to edubuntu. [16:10] hep you won another soldier :) [16:10] i put a wallpaper in /usr/share/backgroud [16:11] i would like al; my users to see it [16:11] here is what i don't understand: [16:12] when i'm logon as a user, i see images in /usr/share/background [16:12] but not the one i added ? [16:13] if you can help me to understand how an admin can setup edubuntu for all users [16:14] (I have 5 childrem...kind of a admin lol) [16:14] childrens [16:14] I'm not sure how gnome works on that point, but there is certainly some kind of .xml file storing the list of available wallpapers [16:15] in the /home/user ? [16:16] so i had to find that file, and mv to all other users ? [16:16] have a look at /usr/share/gconf/defaults/20-edubuntu [16:16] what if users have personnal settings? [16:16] ok [16:16] create your own file in that dir with a higher number [16:16] and set the background like in the ubuntu file but with your own image [16:17] the higher number will make the settings you put in that file overrule all others [16:17] dont change the edubuntu file, that gets overwritten on updates [16:22] another question (maybe stupid). Why /usr/share/gconf/defaults/20-edubuntu has a symbolic link. Would it be easier to have only one file. Is it common in *nix systems ? [16:23] Hi all [16:26] I am trying to debug a thin client issue but it seems to be ignoring my SCREEN_02=shell in /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf [16:26] any ideas [16:28] paste your lts.conf to a pastebin [16:28] its just two lines [16:28] the version and the SCREEN_02=shell [16:29] sec [16:30] ogra: http://phpfi.com/281449 [16:30] looks fine [16:30] *three lines [16:30] you can drop the version var btw [16:30] ok [16:31] didn't know if it was required or not [16:31] its just a placeholder for the default file ... getltscfg would moan if it fineds the file empty [16:31] ahh [16:32] so why am I not getting a shell on tty2? [16:32] what happens exactly when you boot [16:32] you get a normal X login ? or is it stuck at the first console ? [16:33] it grabs the DHCP, the image, gives me the Ubuntu boot screen then goes to a black screen [16:33] x doesn't start [16:33] thats what I am trying to diagnose [16:33] and alt-f2 doesnt get you to a terminal ? [16:33] I need the shell to see what the graphics chipset is [16:33] nope [16:33] just a blank screen [16:33] tty1 has the login on it [16:34] but thats disabled right? [16:34] thats gutsy ? [16:34] yeah [16:34] 7.10 [16:34] you can enable it with: sudo /opt/ltsp/i386 passwd && sudo ltsp-update-image [16:34] that enables the root login [16:35] ok [16:35] ogra: s/sudo/sudo chroot/ ? [16:35] oh, right [16:35] still I wonder why I am not getting the shell [16:35] thanks for pointing [16:35] * ogra is in a meeting alongside [16:37] ok, thanks for the instructions ogra [16:45] where in proc should I look to find the video chipset? [16:53] i had a problem where if the desktop failed to come up properly [16:54] like the autolgin bug, i couldn't move over to the the screen 2 [16:55] hrm [16:57] maybe similar [16:57] but I can't tell for sure [17:19] Heya [17:27] anyone here preseed edubuntu? [17:30] wow it's quiet! === meduxa is now known as toscalix [17:59] hrm [17:59] Does anyone know if there is LTSP client support for the AMD Geode LX800 chipset [17:59] ? [18:00] Specifically graphics support [18:08] wow, too quiet in here todya! [18:08] today [18:10] yeah [18:10] Goosemoose: I don't suppose you know if there is support for AMD Geode LX800 Graphics chipsets? [18:13] I thought I saw something in the handbook but now I can't find it [18:17] ahh, it was on ltsp.org's site [18:19] ahh [18:19] unfortunately no [18:19] maybe the nsc driver is what I need [18:29] apparently nsc only supports the older GX1 and GX2 chipsets [18:29] :( [19:28] anyone using preseed with edubuntu? [20:34] anyone using preseed with edubuntu? [20:37] sorry, not yet [20:44] ok, having problems with the pressed file [20:45] i read so, but unfortunately i do not have a solution too. tried preseeding once with sarge, but did not succeed at that time. hat too little time to look into it. [21:54] ok, good night everybody [22:02] das-t, night?? it's 2:00pm here in cali. ;) [22:13] lns, isn't that technically afternoon? ;) [22:13] unless the smoke down there is still dense enough to blot out the sun... lol [22:15] joebob777as7, not too bad anymore. ;) [22:53] anyone see something wrong with this line: tasksel tasksel/first multiselect ubuntu-minimal,ubuntu-standard,ubuntu-desktop [22:53] trying to get preseed to work for edubuntu
