[00:13] Is there anyone "in charge" of mythbuntu? [00:14] https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu [00:14] The Mythbuntu team [00:14] Can i get involved? [00:15] I've built a small silent VIA based PVR [00:15] And i'm hoping to turn it into a commercial product [00:15] but I still need to work on the linux backend [00:16] Sure, you can get involved - but you don't need to join the team for that to happen [00:17] If there is something that can be improved you can submit patches [00:17] helping in here and the forums is a *big* help [00:17] hah, I'll be here from now on 24/7 if needed [00:17] cool! [00:18] also, is there any possibillity of perhaps rolling out a different kernel for mythbuntu [00:18] why? [00:19] remember mythbuntu mimics kernel version of ubuntu [00:19] support for certain PVR hardware and specific chipsets [00:19] true true [00:19] well hardy isn't that far away really [00:20] We are reluctant to push changes lke that mid-release [00:20] How many more months/ [00:20] April [00:20] oooh [00:20] 5 [00:20] yeah i understand [00:20] how much longer before upstream freeze? [00:20] yonks [00:20] i believe it already has [00:21] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyReleaseSchedule [00:21] I believe it did [00:21] 13th [00:22] hah [00:22] Daviey, do you know when the repo freezes? [00:22] timeline is on the wiki somewhere [00:22] but we have a good amount of time left [00:22] March 13th [00:22] is it the feature freeze or the beta freeze? [00:22] feature [00:23] that would be Feb 14th then [00:23] yeah [00:23] Eh, wouldnt know [00:23] yea, it's the feature freeze [00:23] I have worked for a project before [00:23] did we get excemption for .21 yet? [00:23] that got backported to i think feisty [00:24] its pretty cool to see your own code inside the repos [00:51] Hey all, I'm working on getting a diskless Ubuntu system to network boot. I've followed the guide online and the system now gets an IP and begins booting the provided kernel. The problem is, during boot I get a kernel panic with the error message: "Can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf". I've configured /tmp to be type tmpfs in fstab but there seems to be some problem. Any suggestions? [00:52] diskless mythbuntu that is [00:52] Yutlin: i'd recommend NFS root (/) [00:53] Daviey, I'm not following [00:53] PXE boot for the kernel.. then the root filesystem is mounted via VFS [00:54] Daviey, I do have the root specified as NFS in fstab [00:54] hmm [00:55] it seems somehow though, despite the fact that I've marked /tmp as tmpfs in the fstab that there is some trouble writing to /tmp/net-eth0.conf while booting [00:55] no idea, sorry [00:55] worked for me :( [00:56] bummer, I'm a bit stuck [01:01] Yutlin: if you find the solution can you let me know - just in case? [01:06] Daviey, I found something about adding the network module to /etc/initramfs/modules [01:06] but I'm not sure how I go about finding the module for my nic [01:07] here's a link to someone with, what seems to be the same problem, and the proposed solution: http://www.mail-archive.com/ltsp-discuss@lists.sourceforge.net/msg32644.html [01:08] Any idea how I can determine what module I need to add to the /etc/initramfs-tools/modules file? [01:54] muahahahaha! PXE Boot success! [01:55] had to add a module for my network card and then had to overcome a bug with Network Manager trying to re-initialize the nic [02:33] where can I find the setting to tell XvMC off for Myth? [02:33] its seems to be the last thing the front end complains about before it crashes on my Nvida 7600 [02:34] what would cause mythtv to have really low dvb-t signal < 25% ... while everything is fine with kaffeine? [02:35] btw i am using a winfast usb with right up to date mythbuntu [02:49] jumpkick, probably in the frontend playback settings [02:49] jumpkick, also, can we setup a torrent server on your server? [02:49] for the mythbuntu release [02:49] superm1 was supposed to give me your contact info but never did, and I wasn't sure if he contacted you about this either [03:41] can anyone tell me if the taskbar is supposed to be showing on my front-end? [03:41] it seems to be pushing the mythtv front-end too low so the bottom of the app is cut off [04:15] fullscreen the frontend [04:16] there's an option in the setup, "run the frontend in a window" or some option [05:00] I believe it is running in fullscreen, that is the strange thing [05:00] I can't resize the window at all, but I do see the window's title bar as well as the task bar [05:42] I was wrong, the window mode was enabled [06:20] how does mythbuntu set up drives if i select guided use entire disk? [06:24] nothing different than standard ubuntu atm [07:52] ?? MCC [07:54] mythbuntu-control-centre [07:54] thanks [07:54] :) [07:54] decided i would reinstall everything and couldn't figure out how to type that :) [07:56] you truely are a great man superm1 [07:56] :) [07:59] finally decided to switch out my HDDs [07:59] whew that took you some time [07:59] yeah [07:59] haha [08:00] since then i havne't been using this box, live TV was driving me NUTS [08:01] well so is it all better now? [08:02] so far seems so [08:02] my other tuner card is screwed up somehow [08:02] but ill work on it tomorrow [08:03] and im gonna need to set up the serial IR Blaster for my digital cable [08:03] god now that i look at this, i still have a lot of work :( [08:08] if i put a folder with a ripped DVD with all the .vob files in it in the videos dir, would it notice it as a DVD? [08:09] um. i don't believe so [08:10] yeah didn't think so either [08:22] OHHH, and it does work...just FYI for ya :) [11:50] hi my mythtv will not play dvd and it does have the correct items installed [13:20] Hi I am trying to get my soundlaster audigy SE card working I can not seam to get surround sound [14:09] firekool did you load the driver [14:10] thanks famicon for helping I duno [14:10] "soundblaster audigy se" "surround not working" "ubuntu" [14:10] google that [14:10] I just did a fresh install this is driving me insane I tried going https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SurroundSound?highlight=%28surround%29%7C%28sound%29 and following directions http://www.halfgaar.net/surround-sound-in-linux but /etc/asound.conf: is not found [14:11] firekool, when you say "surround not working", how exactly are you testing it? how are your speakers connected? [14:12] directhex|speakers are connected correctly [14:12] firekool, connected using what? [14:12] I only hear out of left and right they are connected regular audio jack [14:12] it is a 5.1 speaker system [14:13] three 3.5mm stereo jacks? [14:13] speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -l1 -twav is what I am using to test [14:13] yes directhex| [14:14] get rid of "-twav" [14:14] you should get static on each speaker in turn. when it says it's testing a rear speaker, do you get silence or sound from the front speakers? [14:15] only left and right front I hear sound [14:15] so it's silent otherwise? [14:15] yes [14:16] does your card have any combination jacks (e.g. rear speakers double up as line-in)? [14:16] I have a sound blaster audigy SE [14:16] so I think I do [14:18] yes i do directhex| [14:19] directhex| Do you think that buying a new sound card would be easyer and if so what one should I get [14:20] i'm looking [14:21] not 100% sure what to suggest, i don't see any evidence suggesting known issues with surround on that card [14:22] I got this card becouse the Via Chipset one was not working either [14:37] lol directhex| I found out what the problem was becouse my screen is cut off I could not find the mixer [14:38] i ran alsamixer turned up the volume and they all work now [14:38] well, that's some money saved [14:38] it certaily seemed odd that it wasn't working O_o [14:38] what is the command for the graphical mixer [14:39] alsamixergui, i think [14:39] or you can access all of alsamixer's functions via the gnome volume control if you know how [14:39] thank you a bunch for your help [14:39] well i am in xfce [14:40] xfce4-mixer ought to work [14:41] ya I need to ajust my resolution so I can see that part of the screen [14:42] thank you a lot [14:50] directhex| would I need to add a command to acculy utalize my surround sound in mplayer [14:53] mplayer? not sure, i use digital audio, so surround gets passed to my receiver [14:53] how much did the digital audio system cost ya [14:53] try adding "-channels 6" to the mplayer command [14:54] it's a high-end amp, so £400 for that. plus cost of speakers [14:55] eww ya I am not that rich yet [14:55] I just had a spare system laying around so i desided to put it to use [14:56] http://alsa.opensrc.org/SurroundSound says put in mplayer -channels 6 -ao alsa:mmap:noblock:device=hw=0.1 dvd://4 is all the rest of that nessesary [15:01] wouldn't have though so [15:01] try without, to start with [15:05] how much extra configuration did you do to use your digital audio [15:06] one tickbox in the myth config. i'm using the internal player for video, so no mplayer messing required [15:06] a internal player? [15:07] well I tried it both ways and they both do not work [15:07] the internal player. configure mythvideo to use "Internal" as the player command [15:09] I will try that that is in dvd configuration right [15:10] DVD player is set to internal [15:12] if I am using surround sound do I need to configure anything for audio [15:15] I think I am going to go check out some speakers becouse This is getting frustrating [15:18] I am sure i can find some cheap ones that will safice [15:53] Hey all, can anyone help me get my ATI Remote Wonder working with Mythbuntu? === firekool_ is now known as firekool === firekool_ is now known as firekool === firekool__ is now known as firekool [19:42] hello0 === MythbuntuGuest41 is now known as marcelcole === marcelcole is now known as marcelbkr [19:42] anyone around? [19:42] !ask [19:42] Don't ask to ask a question. Just ask your question :) [19:43] haha ok [19:43] i'm trying to accomplish this.. [19:44] i have windows vista with an lcd monitor and a hdmi connection to a lcd tv [19:44] and i also have vmware workstation 6 with mythbuntu installed [19:44] and will be using that as the media center for the lcd tv [19:45] now when I try to install vmware tools on mythbuntu it mounts the drive but all I get is jibberish in the file manager [19:52] anyone? [19:53] wait a bit, people should come around and see your question [19:54] ok :) [20:05] i wouldn't use mythbuntu in that method [20:05] you won't get very good performance [20:06] you are better off with a dual boot [20:06] i want to run them simulatenously [20:06] it seems to be performing fast [20:08] i have tried windows media center but it basically sucks [20:08] i have also tried gbpvr and mediaportal but they aren't that good either [20:12] have a separate master backend that always runs and then just access that through the vm might run better [20:14] how do i do that? [20:17] you would need the hardware first of all, and then its an option when installing mythbuntu where you select which roll the box will have [20:17] what do i need for hardware [20:17] another computer [20:17] with all the parts you would need for any old backend [20:18] all i want to use mythbuntu or any mediacenter program for is a center for playing music and videos i have on my hard drive and emulators [20:18] not for recording tv or anything [20:18] but, if you are unhappy with media center why not just only boot mythbuntu [20:19] just wire up to your tv and use itunes then [20:19] hmm [20:20] the only problem i have with windows media center is the focusing issue..if you know what i mean [20:20] not really, never used it [20:20] i much prefer ubuntu in general over vista but its not practical for me yet [20:21] practical, whats practical [20:22] I guess having a drm loaded OS is much more practical.... [20:22] i mean certain programs are only available for windows, i have tried wine but its not developed far enough [20:22] 2gb of ram to run an OS is practical too [20:22] like? [20:22] what programs? [20:22] rhpot1991, I have 2GB of ram on my desktop [20:23] but then again, i run like 3 virtual machines at the same time [20:23] simply accounting 2008, autocad architecture, quicken 2008, newsleecher, msn messenger w/ msg-plus and a-patch [20:23] ya, I'm saying you need 2gb of ram for vista to run decent, thats unnecessary [20:23] wow [20:23] vista is a hog for resources [20:24] msn messanger == pidgin [20:24] it's almost like you went to find a list of programs that dont run [20:24] quickern == gnucash [20:24] why do you run simply accounting 2008 and quicken 2008? [20:24] for my job [20:24] just because you have 2 doesn't mean it's an independant auditor [20:25] if i could seamlessly run simply and quicken and newsleecher i would switch in the next ten minutes [20:26] what do you run for antivirus? [20:26] kaspersky [20:26] marcelbkr, perhaps it would make more sense to make mythbuntu the primary os however and having the windows apps you need running in your virtual machine [20:26] since then it gets access directly to your hardware (tuners et al) [20:26] i was thinking about that [20:26] yea, im not sure that runs well under wine either [20:26] yea [20:26] although im not sure i'd run vista [20:27] i hate to say it but vista is running perfect for me with certain tweaks applied and multiple things disabled as well as having sp1 rc installed [20:27] I was going to say that, but then I thought boy vista would run like crap in a VM [20:28] if i were to run ubuntu with a windows vm the vm would probably be xp [20:28] well maybe not [20:28] how much ram would you have? [20:28] * superm1 gets back to bug fixing [20:28] ya xp should run fine there, wasn't sure if you had a license or anything [20:28] my XP VM runs fine with 512 ram [20:29] marcelbkr: you don't have any old computers laying around? [20:29] hmm i'm assuming that my ati radeon hd 2400 pro would run fine with ubuntu [20:29] unfortunately i dont have any old computers around [20:30] go buy a $200 one from walmart and make that a mythbox and just samba share your music to it [20:30] might be easier than messing with vm's [20:30] and get you what you want [20:30] though I do hate walmart... [20:30] i was trying to avoid spending any money [20:30] ok, just tossing it out there as an option [20:32] i'd go the VM route [20:33] I wouldn't mess with mythbuntu just for music, but thats just me [20:33] so how should I go about it if i want to run ubuntu as my main os with a guest xp vm but with mythbuntu on my second display [20:34] or maybe i should just go the simplest way and just have some shortcuts to where my music/videos/emulators and such is stored shown on the second display [21:54] hello When I play avi files the video jumps and I have the codecs installed [21:54] what might I need to do to fix this? [22:05] buy a faster cpu? [22:06] firekool, what system specs [22:06] and what kind of avi file? [22:07] it is a avi video files and how do i pull off the specs of the system [22:07] it might be divix encoded avi file though [22:07] can you pastebin the outut of [22:07] cat /proc/cpuinfo [22:08] http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/2820/ [22:09] do you know any other info about the avi file? [22:09] your specs do seem a little low [22:09] what do you mean any more info? [22:09] resolution? [22:09] framerate? [22:09] my guess is that your processor isn't beefy enough to decode mpeg4 [22:10] tgm4883: ya I am testing that out right now on another system [22:11] it should be though it is a amd 2400 [22:12] you sure? [22:12] cpu MHz : 1198.887 [22:13] perhaps it's being clocked back [22:13] that is how amd's are [22:13] it is a AMD 2400 running at 1.9mhz [22:14] at least that is what I thought [22:14] according to what you posted, it's running at 1.2Ghz [22:14] not 1.9 [22:14] sorry 1.2 [22:15] so you think that system has just got too old [22:16] could be, although there are other factors to check [22:16] what video card? [22:16] geforce 6200 AGP [22:17] did you install the restricted driver? [22:17] yes and I just tested it on a intel centrino system and same thing happened [22:17] I think it is becouse it is a divix encoded avi [22:18] try a different file [22:18] sounds like that one is bad [22:18] it plays in windows fine [22:19] hmm [22:20] ya I just checked and it is a divix encoded avi file [22:20] and divix is not installed [22:33] Anyone have an idea why a smb mount I added to my fstab doesn't seem to mount at boot but will mount fine with a "sudo mount -a" ?? [22:39] Yutlin: is the mount passworded [22:56] firekool: yes, it is [22:56] I have the username and password specified in the the mount [22:56] can you mount it othereise [22:57] yea, when I execute "sudo mount -a", which in my undertanding just mounts everything in the fstab, it mounts fine [22:57] which is why I'm confused
