nwidgerif i want to customize the lirc button mappings for my remote, what should i do?00:23
solarbabytazgodx: in about a year from now fireware is going to quadroople in speed01:31
solarbabytazgodx: its expected to be fast enough for HD01:31
tgm4883whats fireware?01:32
solarbabyFirewire01:32
tgm4883_laptopisn't firewire already fast enough for HD?01:32
solarbabyI doubt it01:33
tgm4883_laptopthats strange, i was under the impression that I could stream HD over cat5e01:33
solarbabyI have no real experience with it01:33
solarbabybut I do know it will quadroople in speed, and thats good news01:33
tgm4883_laptopI was also under the impression that HD could be streamed via firewire from a cable box01:34
solarbabyread this about firewire if your interested01:35
solarbabyhttp://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-6223102.html?tag=nl.e55001:35
solarbabyyou may be correct..01:35
solarbabyI really hadn't played around with it.. but in about a year I sure will01:35
tgm4883_laptopI hope im correct, otherwise my mythtv setup is defying technology01:36
solarbabyin that case, you already know your correct01:36
solarbabyhopefully the next myth server I build will be HD capable..01:37
solarbabyI'd love my myth server to be the size of a pack of cigerettes, with a firewire hub01:38
solarbabyand HD capable01:38
tgm4883_laptopwell, you really should build the frontends capable01:38
tgm4883_laptopas most backends are already capable of some form of HD01:38
tgm4883_laptopand while not as small as a pack of cigerettes, the via's are pretty small and HD ready01:39
solarbabyim using a Hauppauge 350, that for sure wouldn't be HD capable for recording01:39
solarbabyvia would be a great way to go01:39
tgm4883_laptopyea, an HDHomerun would be better :)01:40
solarbabyI could settle for a myth server the size of a cartoon of smokes01:40
solarbabycarton01:41
solarbabyI really am having a hard time spelling today01:41
solarbabymust be the holiday jitters01:41
tgm4883_laptopwtf, my master backend is totally screwed02:38
tgm4883_laptopthat was pretty strange02:44
tgm4883_laptoplooks all fixed now02:44
tazgodxhmm04:21
tazgodxwhenever im in here im alone lately04:21
tazgodxok so i have my firewire set up to control my STB, and it all works. but when i go to watch that tuner, i jsut see a black screen and then it kicks me back to the menu.04:29
tazgodxwhen i first set it up, and turned to that tuner it showed me video of what was on, so i know it was somewhat working04:29
tazgodxbut when i went to change channel it did this04:29
tazgodxand now won't do anything but this04:29
tazgodxany ideas?04:30
javatexanhowdy all06:32
GWillakersI just upgraded my myth box and I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the font sizes right... the EPG descriptions are so small I can hardly see them (the column headings are normal).  Anyone run up against this before?06:33
javatexanI have a question for all you seasoned guys with mythtv.  What is the 'best', i know this is a loose term format to convert movies and tv programs into for storage.  in a storage-friendly way without terrible pixelation etc06:33
javatexanseems like the stuff I am trying plays back terrible....mpeg4 mainly is what I've been trying06:34
javatexanit plays back fine in mpeg format tho....06:35
MilhousePunkRockHello everyone!08:49
nettow0822tgm4883 you here?16:48
nettow0822foxbuntu...did you see the fix I found for the snapstream remote channel id?17:00
foxbuntunettow0822, yes...good work17:02
nettow0822so it looked ok to you?17:02
foxbuntuI am actually working on a GUI Interface for remote mapping and config...I will try to add that as well17:02
nettow0822ok ty17:02
MilhousePunkRockHello everyone!17:43
MilhousePunkRockHow much of this http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV_Nova-T_500_PCI do I still need to do to have my Nova-T 500 fully working?17:43
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: you need to wget the firmware for some of the 500's stil yes17:48
Davieypretty painless.. just wget it and shove it in the firmware folder17:48
DavieyAlthough i have heard of some problems with the IR reciever still not working, i'd love to hear how it goes with you17:50
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: Well, I got the firmware from here already, http://www.omskakas.se/2007/01/howto-hauppauge-nova-t-500-pci-under-linux.html17:50
MilhousePunkRockAnd in fact, my IR receiver is not working, it does not even seem to be recognised17:51
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: thats not the most recent one17:51
MilhousePunkRockI wonder if that is because of the firmware I use, the blog author mentiones he does not use the remote/receiver17:51
Davieythe most recent is from ~Sept this year17:51
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: From when is the firmware mentioned on the wiki?17:52
Davieyhttp://www.wi-bw.tfh-wildau.de/~pboettch/home/linux-dvb-firmware/dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw <- i belive that is the most recent17:53
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: OK, time for a change... Turning on the amplifier as mentioned on the wiki reduced the bit erros to 0, by the way17:54
Davieycool17:55
Davieylet me know how you get on with that firmware17:55
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: "dmesg | grep input" is your friend btw17:55
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: I've gone through dmesg completely, no sign of the IR receiver17:56
Davieyafter that firmware from above ^?17:56
MilhousePunkRockNow I wonder why the resolution of MythTV now is lower than it should be... Note to self: Change one thing at a time ;)17:57
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: Right now I use the firmware from the blog, that will change in a few moments though17:57
Davieychange it now, and reboot to be sure - do it now, you know you should17:58
Davieycome on charlie17:58
MilhousePunkRocklol17:58
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: ?18:02
MilhousePunkRockHang on18:03
Davieytick tock18:03
MilhousePunkRockrebooting now18:04
DavieyOkay, should be up now - how's the dmesg?18:07
MilhousePunkRockNo sign of the IR receiver18:11
MilhousePunkRock:(18:11
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: bah, let me know what you find out - where did you buy it out of interest?18:17
MilhousePunkRockseems like the card needs to be in cold state for the other firmware to be loaded18:18
MilhousePunkRockebay... Is supposed to be used only for testing purposes, remote, ir receiver and batteries were still sealed18:18
Davieyah, good point!18:20
pdragonFor video input to a TV, would the regular VGA port be better or worse than Component video?18:21
Davieybetter18:21
pdragonTV actually has a VGA port18:21
DavieyDVI/HDMI > VGA > Component18:21
pdragoncool, thanks!18:21
pdragonyeah, doesn't have  DVI port. Has HDMI, but dont have a video card with one of those connectors18:22
pdragonthink onboard video on the motherboard would be good enough for HD, or still get an inexpensive video card?18:23
Davieypdragon: HDMI = DVI + sound18:23
pdragonyeah i know18:23
Davieyebay has some cheapo DVI to HDMI converter cables18:23
pdragonhow would the sound go in with one of them?18:24
Davieydoesn't18:24
pdragonok18:24
Davieyi used to use dvi -> hdmi cable with seperate amo18:24
Davieyamp*18:24
pdragoncool. this is for my parents. they just have an HD LCD TV. no stereo18:25
pdragontv has a PC audio connector on it, tho18:25
Davieythat might work, what model tv?18:25
DavieyPC audio connector with DVI/HDMI cable worked on mine - but no promise18:26
pdragonSony Bravia18:26
pdragonthink I'd need a video card or would the onboard video be good enough?18:27
pdragonthey may get an HDHomerun at some point, but aren't for now18:27
pdragonso, just Standard TV right now, with possibility of HD18:27
Davieyhard to say, sorry18:29
Davieydon't touch ATI tho (IMO)18:29
pdragonoh i know18:30
pdragon/qhttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E1681412504118:31
pdragonwoops18:31
pdragonhttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E1681412504118:31
pdragonthat's what i've got planned right now18:31
Davieyyou could look into cards with HDMI on.. but the audio driver for many of them is currently borked18:33
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: There was a typo in my cp line, the new firmware never got where it belongs... ;)18:34
tgm4883pdragon, what onboard video?18:34
tgm4883heh, i have that exact video card on my desktop18:35
pdragonhttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E1681312131918:35
pdragonthat motherboard18:35
* tgm4883 shrugs18:35
tgm4883I use an onboard nvidia 620018:35
tgm4883and it plays HD just fine18:36
pdragoncool18:36
tgm4883wouldn't hurt to try it18:36
tgm4883also, you might be able to get that video card intown for about the same price.  I paid about $45 for mine in town about 10 months ago18:37
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: it now works?18:38
tgm4883anyone have a hvr-950 picking up HD?18:38
tgm4883heh, i'll take that as no18:40
MilhousePunkRockThe wiki is a bit imprecise, cp <firmwarefile> /lib/firmware is not sufficient, since the version at the end is then not the file the kernel wants to load... I fixed it now and the reboot is almost done18:41
Davieysudo cp dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw /lib/firmware/$(uname -r)/18:41
MilhousePunkRockThe .10 is wrong18:41
Davieyah18:42
MilhousePunkRockAnd I thought it was supposed to go into /lib/firmware only, without the kernel folder18:42
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: so, sudo cp dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw /lib/firmware/$(uname -r)/dvb-usb-dib0700-01.fw18:43
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: And another reboot18:44
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: cremove the power for a few mins18:44
MilhousePunkRockWill do if it does not work now, technically the card should be "cold" since the last two reboots the firmware was not in place18:45
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: dmesg will  tell you if it is col or warm following a reboot18:46
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: I prefer removing the power cable and pressing the power button until I hear a little hissing sound (probably some transistors, resistors, whatever getting rid of the last volts)18:46
Davieyyou could test it with your tongue?18:47
MilhousePunkRockhehe18:47
MilhousePunkRockwell, firmware loads fine now, TV works, but still no sign of the remote receiver18:48
Davieyawwww18:51
Davieydmesg grep.. showed nothing?18:51
DavieyDon't know if upgrading v4l-dvb would help18:52
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: Well, more on that tomorrow... Dinner's almost ready...18:59
DavieyMilhousePunkRock: okay, let me know if you have success18:59
MilhousePunkRockDaviey: Will do... See you tomorrow...19:00
MilhousePunkRockHave a nice evening everyone!19:00
Davieytgm4883: are you using the binary drivers for your graphics card?19:11
rinaldi_i am currently installing mthbuntu 7.10 and i selected standard settings to configure the backend, i have a hauppuage nova-t dvb-t cx8800, does anyone know which card type i should be selecting in capture card settings? i have tried all of the options and nothing seems to find any channels. im still running the live cd. any ideas?19:30
Davieyrinaldi_: DVB19:34
Davieyrinaldi_: is it the nova 500 per chance?19:34
rinaldi_daviey: no its the cx8800, well at least thats what it says when the video device is /dev/video019:35
rinaldi_daviey: il try dvb again then19:35
rinaldi_Daviey: should i need to configure things like "dvb card number" or "signal timeout"?19:38
Davieyyes19:38
Davieyprobably card "0"19:39
Davieysignal timeout leave19:39
rinaldi_Daviey: yeh thats already there, and the timeout is already 1000. and the tuninng timeout is 300019:39
Davieyrinaldi_: if you can't get it working, try something like gxine or vlc as video players and see if it works outside myth19:39
Davieywhen you select the device it should state the model in card setup19:40
rinaldi_Daviey: in the Frontend ID is says Could not open card #0 Subtype: No such file or directory19:41
rinaldi_Daviey: sould i try vlc through the livecd?19:42
rinaldi_Daviey: i tried through vlc and xine as dvb and it says it can't find it19:50
Davieyhmm19:51
DavieyAh, are you currently in the livecd?19:51
rinaldi_Daviey: yes well it hasnt asked me for reboot so i continued setup, should i go through hardrive?19:52
=== Sphagnum is now known as Tari
Davieyrinaldi_: yeah, i would just carry on and sort it once installed19:53
rinaldi_Daviey: wow, never realised the livecd wouldnt have the same functionality, its found the card and its scanning. thanks, though i would have come across it eventually!20:01
