tjaaltonbryce: I asked pitti to promote vmmouse and openchrome to main, so we can test them with alpha318:39
bryceok cool18:44
bryceI've done a  pkill -9 fetchmail  - there was some fetchmail process hanging around18:46
bryceoops, mischannel :-)18:53
tjaaltonheh19:29
tedgOkay, I upgraded my laptop to Hardy... not good.19:55
tedgIt seems when ever I have the synaptics driver in my xorg.conf my mouse no longer moves.19:55
tedgI've played with it a bunch, but I can't seem to get the two happy together.19:55
tedgThe only thing that is a little odd is this: "(**) Synaptics Touchpad: doesn't report core events"19:57
tedgIt seems that, in theory, it should report core events.19:57
tedgOr is that done through another interface and the synaptics driver only handles the "extra" events?19:57
tjaaltontedg: did you upgrade or install from scratch? I mean is the xorg.conf the same as before?20:19
tedgWell, it was.  But the nvidia driver won't load, so I had to switch it to "nv".20:19
tedgOther than that it's the same.20:19
tedgOh, I guess I didn't answer the question: upgrade :)20:19
tjaaltonheh, ok20:19
tjaaltonI don't have a touchpad on any of the laptops in my possession, so can't help there much :/20:20
tedgYeah, I'm guessing it's a synaptics driver issue.  I think it must be disabling the movement parts of the touchpad.20:21
tedgThe funny part is that if I comment out "AlwaysCore" I get the touchpad working in a fixed position mode like a tablet.20:22
tjaaltonthe driver hasn't changed much, so probably it just doesn't work right with xserver 1.420:22
tjaaltonmjg59 promised to look at it though ;)20:23
tedg:)  So, should I file a bug then?20:23
tjaaltonI think there's a dupe20:24
tedgThe other thing that's interesting is that when the nvidia driver failed I didn't get any reasonable fallback.20:25
tjaaltoncheck the log20:25
tjaaltonI'd just like to know why it failed :)20:25
tedgI got "get-edid is not installed" and that 'does not know how to configure the "shared/default-x-server doesn't exist" X server'20:26
tedgIt didn't fall back to nv or vesa on it's own.20:26
tjaaltonoh20:26
tedgOh, the reason it failed is that it couldn't load the kernel driver.20:26
tedgWhich seems to be because my computer won't boot with the -386 kernel, but only the -generic one, but I'm unsure of what that means.20:26
tedg(and why their symbols would be different to the point of not loading the nvidia driver)20:27
tjaaltonhmm, so it installed the -386 flavor by default?20:27
tjaaltonahahaa, failsafeDexconf needs an update (lots of debconf keys gone now) :)20:28
tedgI'm guessing, but it does seem to exist in the modules directories... I'm kinda confused on that right now.20:28
brycethe get-edid warning is non-harmful.  I need to figure out how to suppress that20:29
tedgbryce: I was looking for it, it's not in a supported package -- so that'd be a good thing :)20:30
* tedg is dying without right click... must find external mouse...20:32
tjaalton    # Discard stderr, which is text data about the card20:39
tjaalton    get-edid 2>/dev/null20:39
tjaaltonbefore that there is 'is_installed get-edid "retrieve EDID" || return 1'20:40
tjaaltonbryce: I'll merge xorg/xorg-server/mesa for alpha3, so if you have pending stuff queued up, let me know20:53
tjaaltonI'll fix failsafeDexconf to always use "xorg" as the xserver, like the real dexconf does20:54
bryceok20:55
bryceI don't have anything for mesa; I chucked the work I was doing on it since I never got it working properly20:55
tjaaltonok21:01
ubotuNew bug: #178718 in xorg (main) "Gain root shell when X broken" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/17871821:02
ubotuNew bug: #175436 in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (restricted) "Hardy LiveCD fails to identify nVidia 8400M GS on Sony Vaio SZ" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/17543622:30
tjaaltonhum, no need to merge xorg-server, so I'm done for the day23:17
tjaaltonbye!23:17
brycecya23:35
* bryce continues to struggle with libdrm23:35
bryceI wish Intel would do their packaging better, it's such a pita23:35
