When I run pg_upgradecluster 7.4 mail as described in the Readme of postgresql-common, i am getting a Error: could not get cluster default encoding [10:28] what am i doing wrong? === \sh is now known as \sh_away === MenZa_ is now known as MenZa === ember_ is now known as ember [13:00] is the server kernel compiled with CONFIG_TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING? [13:00] in either gutsy or hardy? [13:17] XiXaQ: No. [13:20] oh, I hope it will be. [13:20] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/157191 [13:20] Launchpad bug 157191 in linux-meta "please enable CONFIG_TASKSTATS, especially CONFIG_TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING" [Undecided,New] [13:21] it's been reported though, but noone seems to have acted on it. [13:23] It's marked as experimental. [13:32] yeah, so? ;) [13:38] <_ruben> so roll your own (experimental) kernel(package) :-) [13:39] I think I'd rather just switch to debian :) === \sh_away is now known as \sh [14:27] morning [15:01] mathiaz: ping ill see what I can do about #154149 (mod_authz_external) === \sh is now known as \sh_away === dantalizin1 is now known as dantalizing === Gargeh is now known as Gargoyle [16:28] hello. is it a driver or a bios problem with the HP Proliant DL380 when the booting process stops at "Attempting to boot from Hard Drive (C:)" [16:29] citybird: could be a boot sector problem. Has grub been installed properly? [16:30] Gargoyle: i was using the 7.10 server install cd. i thought that this would be installed from there [16:30] citybird: should have been. [16:31] Gargoyle: how would i do it manually? rescue option? [16:32] did you erase the entire disk or just make room for ubuntu? [16:41] Gargoyle: sorry for the delay in responding. I erased the entire disk and created 4 partitions on a raid 5 disk. [16:41] Gargoyle: the boot partition i marked wit the boot flag [16:41] software raid or hardware? [16:42] Gargoyle: hardware raid. I set it up with the bios utility. [16:42] citybird: If it's like our dell servers then I think you need to set the bios to boot from the raid array. [16:43] In the normal bios, not the raid utility bios [16:43] what kind of raid card is it? [16:43] Gargoyle: i checked that and the bios looks ok. there are many boot options. usb, internal raid, external fibrechannel, etc... [16:44] Gargoyle: perhaps i should try installing on the fiberchannel disks and set it to boot from there. [16:46] there is a standard boot order menu and a boot controller order menu. both are set to point to the internal array. [16:47] You could try booting from the install CD, one of the options in the boot menu is to "boot an installed system" (or "boot from 1st HD" or something like that) [16:48] Gargoyle: yes i tried that too. still no love. im beginning to think that this is a new problem. [16:48] Was the server working? [16:48] i tried searching for the same problem and noone has had it before [16:49] Gargoyle: yes it was an exchange server in a previous life [16:49] and i havent moved it. [16:50] "booting from drive C:" does not sound very linux like to me... I would guess at it still having a windows based boot sector. [16:51] soren: feeling any better? [16:51] booting from drive c: is a bios message. i was just wondering if it was failing there or if it was possible that there was some sort of driver issue after reading the boot partition. [16:52] or perhaps the install was putting grub on the wrong disk array. [16:54] mabee i should try disconnecting the fibre channel cables during the install. [16:54] nealmcb: Slightly. I'm at about 67% now, I think. [16:56] dam i need a remote screen [16:58] soren: hope you can get some rest :-) [17:02] nealmcb: any luck installing ubuntu on your olpc? [17:11] sommer: I haven't tried, but have a friend (fedora dev) that is working on xfce for it [17:12] it is great fun to show the olpc to non-techy friends - they just ooh and ah (running the "record" activity to show them video of themselves is popular :-) [17:23] nealmcb: ya... I like most of the apps, but I must admit I bought it as a regular laptop not an educational tool [17:23] I've found that the Sugar interface doesn't let you multi-task that well... heh [17:36] how about this for a new factoid: ebox is a web-based GUI interface for administering a server. It is designed to work with Ubuntu/Debian style configuration management, unlike webmin. See the plans for Hardy in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EboxSpec [17:39] !ebox [17:39] Sorry, I don't know anything about ebox - try searching on http://ubotu.ubuntu-nl.org/factoids.cgi [17:40] did i miss the mtg time again ? [17:42] jjesse: 1:42 ago.... [17:45] dang it [17:45] google calendar didn't remind me === \sh_away is now known as \sh [18:22] nealmcb: looks good to me [18:59] has anyone thought of collecting links from websites that could possibly help users? (ie: http://www.howtoforge.com/openldap-samba-domain-controller-ubuntu7.10) [19:00] hrm interesting idea, shouldn't those then go into the documentation? [19:04] what about adding the links to a wiki page covering the same topic if a wiki page already exists - if not, create a wiki page for the topic and add the link to it. [19:05] ? [19:05] mathiaz that would make sense [19:05] maybe more sense then including them in system documentation [19:05] mathiaz: thats what I was thinking [19:05] * jjesse wonders if there is an existing wiki page === \sh is now known as \sh_away [19:07] hi all [19:07] hello J_P [19:07] people, I have one server with RAID1 (md0 = /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1) via software and I would like passa fsck to see if there are some badblocks. My question is: I will go to linux single (init 1) and I need run fsck on /dev/md0 or in /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1 ? [19:08] J_P: /dev/md0 [19:09] mathiaz: thank you guy! :-) [19:27] It'd be nice is those who remember we are starting a meeting might think to mention it here for those of us that don't. [19:29] ScottK: but you are suppose to know everything though :) [19:29] Yeah. Well I may, but I'm organizationally impaired. [19:29] don't worry i missed it as welll [19:29] the meeting wasn't like 5 hours ago? [19:29] thoght i had google calendar to remind me [19:30] gcal it's a good tool to remember such thinks, but i need to go to a client at that time :( [19:30] so i couldn't attend [19:53] ScottK: still around? [19:53] Sure [19:53] can you take a look at the comment on Bug #130836 [19:53] please [19:54] Launchpad bug 130836 in apache2 "Specify OpenDocument icon(s) in Apache2 configuration" [Wishlist,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/130836 [19:54] i don't understand why the license isn't compatible, i don't see where it limits the use or modification of the icons [19:56] * ScottK looks [20:08] ScottK: they say the license is the problem, but i don't fin why [20:08] * ScottK is still reading [20:08] * nxvl_work *HUGS* ScottK [20:09] get a room [20:09] dantalizing: This is Ubuntu. Stuff like that happens all the time around here. You get used to it. [20:09] nxvlq [20:09] Urgh. [20:10] dantalizing: yes, we love to hug each other on Ubuntu [20:10] nxvl_work: Does Pete Harlow own Trademarks on OpenDoc? [20:10] nobody hugs me [20:10] dantalizing: thats why the Bug day it's called Hug day [20:10] * nxvl_work HUGS dantalizing [20:10] 'cept my mom, she says i'm special [20:10] ScottK: i don't think so [20:11] Then how can he assert such a Trademark? [20:11] License is bogus as is. [20:11] ScottK: i have c&p from the source where i get the icons [20:11] Understand. I'd say as is, it's not distributable. [20:12] You have no copyright license. [20:12] Without that, you can't distribute. [20:12] mmm [20:12] so, i need to find other icons with a better license? [20:13] Or get the author of the license to give you an actual license. [20:13] Apache license would be cool. [20:14] mmm [20:14] the author is subscribed to the bug.. [20:15] ScottK: http://www.catnip.co.uk/opendocument/icons/#apache [20:15] ScottK: this is where i get the icons [20:17] That page doesn't say Trademark. Where did that come from? [20:18] ScottK: yes, it says after the generic icons [20:18] more or less on the middle of the page [20:19] Right [20:19] I don't think he can Trademark the icons. [20:19] They are copyright him. [20:20] but as i remember it's unclear if that license if for the icons i downloaded or the other ones [20:20] To Trademark something you have to be engaged in trade (businsess) and he's not. [20:20] Which ones did you download? The ones above that or below? [20:21] the first ones [20:22] Then I'd say that the Trademark and the bit follows applies to those [20:23] that's what i thought [20:23] so, you say i need to contact the author and ask him for the license? [20:23] As a copyright license, the paragraph he's got there is fine I think. [20:23] I don't see it as imcompatible with the Apache license. [20:24] The claim of Trademark, is I think, a problem. [20:24] but i can't change the license from trademark to copyright without the permission of the author or can i? [20:24] No. You can't. [20:25] IANAL and all that, of course. [20:27] IANAL? [20:28] what i understand, soren meant as incompatible license, is the "identification and promotion " part [20:38] I Am Not A Lawyer [20:39] Yeah. Actually that's a DFSG problem. [20:39] It's a limitation of use [20:39] Now that you mention it. [20:40] mmm [20:40] It'd be highly useful if the author would pick some ASF compatible license (which I think is most anything except GPL v2 or earlier). [20:40] so it's not a compatible license [20:41] Nope. Doesn't meet DFSG which we mostly follow. [20:41] on that web, he also license some icons with CC [20:41] The one exception that I know of is we'll take GFDL, but Debian won't. [20:43] Off the top of my head, that particular CC license is OK, but I got ~2 hours of sleep last night, so I could be totally wrong. [20:43] heh [20:44] that happens [20:44] soren: around? [21:33] hey guys, I am looking for a php app or something that I can run on my server and it can give me graphs of cpu usages and ram usage over periods of time etc, does anyone know of anything like this? [21:41] jetole: nagios? [21:51] jetole: have a look at cricket [21:52] jetole: hobbit [21:57] alright, I will look at all 3 although I think nagios may be more then what I need from past experience with it [22:20] hmmm, I can't seem to find many ubuntu specific docs or posts on ubuntu forums, should I be running the apt-get cricket.deb etc? or should I compile from source ? [22:24] jetole: apt-get cricket should install cricket on your computer [22:27] More specifically sudo apt-get install cricket [22:27] is there any way to check which packages hasn't a watch already? [22:38] mathiaz: and how do I use it once it is installed, how do I see it from a browser? [22:39] I didn't see a file in site-available or a dov in /var/www [22:39] http://www.postgresql.org/about/news.907 <-- I hope I will make to hardy [22:39] s/I will/it will/g [22:39] jetole: check /usr/share/doc/cricket/ - this directory should have some documentation in it [22:40] thanks mathiaz [22:51] why is Bug #24864 still assigned to server team? [22:51] Launchpad bug 24864 in acpi-support "Samba mount point becomes inaccessible after hibernation/suspend" [Medium,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/24864 [22:51] is more a problem with acpi than with samba [23:41] Hi there i need help applying a patch for my esata controller so that it supports the port multiplier function [23:56] Can anyone help me with applying a patch to my system? [23:56] do you have the patch and the source ? [23:58] http://home-tj.org/wiki/index.php/Libata-tj-stable <- that is where the patch is located [23:58] im very new to linux in genral [23:58] basically i have a esata controller card that supports port multiplier [23:58] and from what that site says is that i need to patch the kernel [23:59] but it doesnt give me a good walkthrough of howto do it
