blkorpheuslirc seems broken often00:02
Dr_willisi dont think i ever have tried my remote with mythbuntu00:04
puckHey, just wondering if any of the mythbuntu maintainers are hanging around, I wrote mythtv-status a handle little tool and thought I'd check to see if you guys know about it.00:09
Davieypuck: pastebin or hit the mailing list?00:10
DavieyHave no idea what it is :)00:10
puckhttp://www.etc.gen.nz/projects/mythtv/mythtv-status.html00:10
puckand I just realised how bad some of the grammar on that page is...00:11
* puck goes and fixes it00:11
Davieypuck: handy - thought about trying to gget it into contrib?00:12
puckIt will be in Ubuntu Hardy.00:13
puck(Well, it is in the repo now, as well as Debian unstable)00:13
Davieyyou've had it approved for universe?00:13
Davieyah, a mere?00:13
Davieymerge*00:13
puckyeah00:13
puckFrom Debian00:13
Davieycool00:13
puckI was wondering if it might be handy to have enabled by default on a mythbuntu install00:14
DavieyI think the best thing to do, is mention it in the guide.. rather than including it in a base install00:14
puckOkay00:14
Davieyhmm, could be!00:15
DavieyI'll have a word with the other chaps00:15
puck:)00:15
puckIt doesn't worry me (I don't use mythbuntu) but thought it might be nice for your users00:16
Davieypuck: all the cool kids are using mythbuntu, why not you? :)00:16
puckI'm still a Debian hold out.  My server at home (which is my MythTV backend) had, um, Potato installed on it I think.00:17
puckand just upgraded since then...00:17
Davieyheh00:17
Davieypuck: keep us in mind when it blows up :)00:18
puckhehehehe00:18
puckIf you guys have a target for running diskless front-ends using NFS boot then I'd be very interested!00:19
Davieywe are trying to get that into hardy!00:19
Davieyme and laga are working on it atm00:19
puckawesome00:19
Davieytrying to be clever tho :(00:19
puckoh oh00:20
alexvdhey00:20
DavieyUnionfs with just the diff in a $MAC_ID/ location00:20
DavieySo it _should_ be configless aswell00:21
alexvddiskless frontend is what i am trying to do...  i thought i would try with livecd and saw the mythbuntu autostart live disc00:21
Davieyie, just work TM00:21
puckNice, that'd be a bit easier than what I'm currently using (old unsupported shell scripts)00:21
puckthat would be awesome.00:21
puckI should grab my post from mythtv-users and make a blog entry about how I set my system up00:21
Davieyalexvd: i didn't have much to do with the autostart - just the discussions on how, sorry00:21
alexvdonly problem is it runs 8.2 lirc which irman is broken.  CVS fixes00:21
alexvdDaviey: cool00:22
* Daviey bed, nn00:22

yotuxhave a question:  I run ubuntu right now and am interested in mythbuntu will having a separate home partition work01:43
Dr_willisi use a seperate home on my Mythbuntu box.01:58

alexvdsynaptic or the restricted manager or manual install of the package03:06
rhpot1991grrrrr, another sony ARccOS disc that wont even play in mythtv from netflix04:08

stuen93i am using a plextor usb mpeg4 capture card with mythTV but it seems that regardless of what settings I change in mythtv it always records as a .nuv file.  is there a way to make it record in another format?15:04
alexvdstuen93: you should ask in the mythtv-users but I think your options are to transcode15:08
stuen93ok, thanks15:09
alexvdstuen93: i thought the nuv was just a container and that you could rename to mpeg2 but i dont know how that works for mpeg415:09
alexvdask on mythtv-users15:09
stuen93i have done that15:09
stuen93thank you15:09
alexvddid you check the gossammer threads mythtv users lists15:10
stuen93i have not done that15:10
MythbuntuGuest73Hi, I need help setting up mythbuntu.  I can't get the backend set up.  When ever I try to start the myth tv setup it just restarts the system.  When I try to open the terminal window it restarts the system.  any help would be appreciated17:58

javatexanhowdy....finally got my RS232 IR reciever......which Remote do I choose in Lirc19:52
nan1I need some help concerning the installation of xmltv 0.5.50. Am I  right here?19:53
javatexanrhpot1992: i got most of it to work just fine19:54
javatexanI can convert tivo to mpeg and get it into mythtv in recordings....the commercial doesnt seem to work though19:54
rhpot1992hmmm, might not be raw mpeg2 then19:56
javatexanbut that might be a setting problem19:56
javatexanor that too19:56
javatexanI am trying to learn how to transcode to something else, but its slow go19:56
nan1I need the tv_grab_eu_epgdata. It will be available in 0.5.50 but in synaptic there is still 0.5.49 available. I tried the weekly builds, installation was okay but there is no change. Thank you for any help.19:58
rhpot1992javatexan: how are you trying to transcode?19:58
javatexanright now....the easiest way I can find...unfortunately I dont have any prior experience with converting movies at all, so its a learning process.  Until I installed mythtv, I didnt even know that mencoder and ffmpeg exists20:00
javatexansorry20:00
javatexani guess I could try to transcode in myth, but I am learning that too20:00
rhpot1992look at this some: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/iPodVideoEncoding20:01
rhpot1992has some ffmpeg lines in there for ipod20:01
rhpot1992will at least give you an idea20:01
javatexanwont the ipod completely make the screen grainy and such?20:02
rhpot1992http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/faq.html20:03
rhpot1992well ipod is a tiny screen20:03
rhpot1992and is limited20:03
rhpot19921.20 Which are good parameters for encoding high quality MPEG-1/MPEG-2?   '-mbd rd -flags +trell -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -g 100 -pass 1/2' but beware the '-g 100' might cause problems with some decoders. Things to try: '-bf 2', '-flags qprd', '-flags mv0', '-flags skiprd.20:03
javatexani found one thing that I tried and I think I converted them all to look grea on ipod...but they look terrible on TV20:03
rhpot1992well ya, ipod res is 320x24020:04
rhpot1992TV is much higher than that20:04
rhpot1992do you have an ipod?20:04
javatexanno ipod here...It was the auto setting for h.264 conversion in another program20:05
javatexanI didnt realize it until too late20:05
javatexanit just said h264 conversion.....go!20:05
rhpot1992http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Mythtranscode20:05
rhpot1992should just use that if you can20:05
javatexanok thanks...ill read up on it20:06
nan1I know there is a german irc for mythbuntu. How can I find it. Thanks!20:06
rhpot1992I don't see any xvid options though, which appear in the transcode menus20:06
rhpot1992!irc20:07

rhpot1992that might help?20:07
javatexanwhere do I run this...terminal or in mythbuntu somewhere?20:08
rhpot1992that command can run in the terminal, but there are also hookins for it within mythtv20:09
rhpot1992if you go into mythtv-setup, there is a check under general about 4 tabs in to enable transcoding on a backend20:09
javatexanI have that set I think20:10
rhpot1992then you can configure transcoding options under setup of your frontend and run them on individual recordings20:10
rhpot1992for you with scripting you are gonna want to do them via the command I would think20:10
javatexansetup TV?20:11
rhpot1992as far as your commflagging and you file name problem, why don't you ask the mythtv-users mailing list for ideas20:11
rhpot1992I think, then under encoding profiles or something like that20:11
nan1thank you, have fun20:13
javatexanrhpot1994: I think you are right about the mpeg2, mythtranscode says unknown video codec when I run mythtranscode --infile <File> --buildindex --showprogress20:44
rhpot1992thats unfortunate20:45
javatexanI am trying to convert with mythtranscode --infile --mpeg2 --showprogress to see if it will make one it can do20:46
javatexanwork with20:46
javatexanls20:46
javatexannow i have movie.mpeg and movie.mpeg.tmp  whats up with that20:46
rhpot1992mythtranscode makes a backup by default IIRC20:47
rhpot1992though I thought they were .old20:48
rhpot1992is it done running?20:48
javatexannow they both say unknown video codec20:48
javatexanwhen I --buildindex....thats odd20:48
javatexanmythbuntu will play the files in Tv Recording20:48
rhpot1992it will play just about anything I think20:49
javatexanlol20:49
javatexanapparently .... even if it doesnt know what it is playing20:49
rhpot1992problem is that the flagging is done frame by frame, and if it can't access it like that then you get failure20:49
javatexanah....any ideas on fixing?20:49
rhpot1992not really, this is beyond anything I have done now20:50
javatexancould I play with ffmpeg and encode it that way20:50
rhpot1992start asking on the mailing list20:50
javatexanokay..thanks20:50
rhpot1992you could, but I have no idea if myth could commflag it then20:50
rhpot1992if you ask on there, then maybe someone who knows about the process could give you some better advice20:50
javatexanokay...thanks a million20:51
rhpot1992no problem20:51
rhpot1992let me know how it works out20:51
javatexanhow do I look at the Job Queue..?20:52
javatexanfound out the problem...on the tivodecode forums21:00
rhpot1992job queue is under information section21:04
rhpot1992whats the fix?21:04

_andrewI've been using MythTV for a while, and I've got some ideas/scripts/docs that might be interesting in the Mythbuntu control center.  What I don't have is the time, skill or energy to make something graphical or nice to use.  Is there any point in my writing this stuff up, and if so, where's it best posted?22:07
tgm4883_laptop_andrew, writing it up is good.  Just make sure you get it to a dev and perhaps it can go either in the install manual, on the website, or in a program included or packaged for mythbuntu22:16
_andrewFair enough.  Would you recommend sending it to the mailing list?  Filing it as a bug report on launchpad?22:17
tgm4883_laptopwell it really depends on what it is22:17
tgm4883_laptopgo ahead and stick it on the mailing list22:18
_andrewFair enough.  Today it's setting up the initial list of channels and getting XMLTV set up more easily, but tomorrow I might have another problem :)22:19
tgm4883_laptopa writeup would be great22:20

tgm4883_laptopyep22:35
rhpot1991or something else?22:35
rhpot1991I posted a link on here about it, and no one commented :(22:35

rhpot1991couldn't read the bullets22:39
tgm4883_laptopi probably saw the same scan22:39
tgm4883_laptopyou can save the picture and blow it u22:39
rhpot1991in a perfect world we would be able to hook up the the ethernet/usb on it and have it usable, but I doubt it will be that easy22:39

rhpot1991I don't think there is any news on when it will be released though22:39
tgm4883_laptopnope22:40

tgm4883_laptophopefully in the next 6 months though22:40
rhpot1991though DTV is an evil evil company in my mind....22:40

tgm4883_laptopit should work well for Local HD channels22:56
rhpot1991I actually don't have an HD tv either22:57
rhpot1991so it would only be used as a tuner to access the digital channels, in the hopes that they aren't encrypting everything for no good reason22:57

tgm4883_laptopnot exactly sure how well that would work22:58
