[Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183658 [00:08] bdmurray: i gave writing a test case a try, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/177114 did i do that right? [00:08] Launchpad bug 177114 in openoffice.org "Openoffice toolbars have a confusing behavior when moved from default location" [Undecided,New] [00:13] bdmurray: cool, that fixed the screencast too [00:13] subterrific: the format of the test case looks great I'm just drawing to follow the steps [00:16] New bug: #183659 in file-roller (main) "Dragging file from File Roller to root Nautilus fails" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183659 [00:16] trying even [00:17] bdmurray: k, i've uploaded a screencast now too so you can watch from the comfort of your couch [00:17] subterrific: awesome, maybe I'll be able to figure out how to do it then [00:21] subterrific: I see I was putting them on the side so they didn't disappear like that [00:22] subterrific: you could change the bug's status to confirmed too [00:29] bdmurray: done [00:30] New bug: #183663 in kvm (universe) "kvm installation and uninstallation failure" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183663 [00:31] New bug: #183661 in libmail-box-perl (universe) "FTBFS in Gutsy/Feisty" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183661 [00:35] subterrific: did you say you are using a hardy vm? do you have gutsy around at all? [00:37] bdmurray: right, i couldn't figure out if it really wasn't being remembered or if it was just confusion [00:38] right and they seem to be on Gutsy but I think that bit of it is kind of moot [01:08] bdmurray: there is no "waiting followup info" status anymore? [01:09] subterrific: that is what Incomplete is for [01:11] hello [01:11] bdmurray: k [01:12] hello [01:12] I've got what seems to be a juicy one, but I'm rusty on how to file a bug. I did a dist-upgrade, it completed, but borked up some stuff. Mainly, my locale has been unset and my language packs seem to have been uninstalled, if that makes any sense [01:13] I'd be willing to show you guys some logs if someone could point me in the right direction [01:15] i'd like to know some information on a bug if anyone has some help they can give [01:15] I mean, I know how to file a bug, but I don't know which files would be most helpful to attach in the bug report [01:15] ... for this particular problem [01:15] extra: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUpdateManager has what you are looking for probably [01:16] I just bought a sony vaio and put ubuntu on it. It has a wireless switch that wont turn on even when it's in the on position [01:17] so the wireless card remains dead [01:17] extra: It has information about the files to add to your bug report about update-manager [01:17] even ndiswrapper doesn't work for this [01:17] blackranger211: which release of Ubuntu did you put on it? [01:17] 7.10 [01:18] bdmurray: thank you very much.. that page is indeed informative.. but, would that also apply if I used sudo apt-get dist-upgrade ?? [01:19] calc: I work on inkscape now and then, yup. [01:19] bdmurray: perhaps I shouldn't have done that command after the update manager exited with an error, reporting that "could not calculate upgrade" but I don't know [01:19] keescook: ok [01:20] keescook: fix its clipboard feature... ;-) [01:20] calc: what brings it up? [01:20] hah [01:20] keescook: assuming it doesn't work, i have no idea actually [01:20] sure, send a patch. :) [01:20] keescook: we were talking about apps not supporting the new fdo clipboard spec that gnome uses, which causes their copied items to disappear after the app is closed [01:20] got any idea bdmurray? [01:21] calc: aah. is there bug open for it? [01:21] blackranger211: try Hardy Alpha 3 as it has a different kernel version [01:21] blackranger211: you should be able to test that feature via the livecd [01:21] extra: the same logs would be helpful [01:21] what's hardy alpha 3? [01:21] extra: if you forced an upgrade, you'll probably need to do a bunch of manual stuff and it might not be a bug so much as hardy being in a constant state of development [01:22] blackranger211: see http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ [01:22] keescook: not sure [01:22] subterrific: see keescook he is inkscape upstream [01:22] Is the alpha version of the next release of Ubuntu [01:22] keescook: subterrific was working on the bug earlier but not specifically wrt inkscape [01:22] calc: which bug? [01:23] calc: okay. well, ironically, I just discovered that either gtk or gcc changes (very recently) cause inkscape to FTBFS on hardy now. :P [01:23] subterrific: the one about clipboards [01:23] keescook: fun! :) [01:23] calc: wrong guy, wasn't me :) [01:23] subterrific: oh hmm [01:23] * calc looks in scrollback [01:24] ah [01:24] saivann: ping [01:24] saivann: see keescook [01:24] subterrific: you both had nicks starting with s ;-) [01:24] very confusing i know [01:24] calc : Concerning the bug about gnome clipboard? [01:24] saivann: yes [01:25] saivann: assuming inkscape doesn't work right wrt gnome clipboard you could talk to keescook about it :) [01:25] bdmurray, would this be ok? PC (Intel x86) alternate install CD [01:26] hi all [01:26] blackranger211: the alternate CD does not have a live destkop environment [01:26] looks like some people ended up with their locales unset after upgrading in prior releases... not sure if there's a clean solution listed though [01:26] bdmurray, the others say desktop, would that still work? [01:27] calc : Did you test if this bug happens with inkscape as well? I didn't yet [01:27] I could use some help determining the status of bug #183659 [01:27] Launchpad bug 183659 in file-roller "Dragging file from File Roller to root Nautilus fails" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183659 [01:27] blackranger211: yes, the desktop CD provides a "live" desktop session where you can test ubuntu [01:27] ok thanks [01:28] saivann: nope, someone mentioned inkscape, i don't know if it is affected [01:28] keescook: so note i don't know that there is even a bug or not ;) [01:29] mgunes: I'm reading [01:29] bdmurray, thanks [01:29] calc : Thanks, I just looked and Inkscape is one of the smart application that doesn't has this bug :) [01:30] saivann: ah ok [01:30] keescook : I just looked and clipboard works for inkscape even when the program is closed, bug like bug #21202 seems to be already fixed in that program [01:30] Launchpad bug 21202 in firefox "firefox doesn't work with gtk clipboard management" [Low,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/21202 [01:30] ah, it's starting to make sense.. I'm unable to install language-support-en, which depends on openoffice.org-l10n-en-gb, which "is not going to be installed" according to apt-get... which must have been why openoffice was grayed out in in my update manager prior to my dist-upgrade [01:30] extra: that's bug 181762 [01:30] Launchpad bug 181762 in update-manager "[Hardy] update-manager could not calculate the upgrade due to openoffice.org-l10n-en-gb" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/181762 [01:30] saivann: it might be a good example program to see what it does to work for the other programs [01:31] extra: i'm working on that one right now [01:31] ah, k [01:31] <- ooo guy [01:31] you can work around it via synaptic though [01:31] calc : This one and gedit both works, yes. But it's still not the case of most programs, I'll start working on this and triage bugs for each programs [01:31] extra: in a case like that you can usually do: aptitude install openoffice.org-l10n-en-gb [01:31] mgunes: I don't think that is a valid use case [01:32] grr still failed after making some changes :-\ [01:32] extra: to force an install of a depend [01:32] calc : Anyway, thanks for your help on this :) [01:32] saivann: no problem :) [01:32] subterrific: so, I should just use aptitude all the time then, huh :) [01:32] * calc wonders what is causing it to still fail to build l10n package [01:33] bdmurray, I was led to think that it was, since there are plans to employ policykit to escalate privileges in such operations. do you think it's not valid specifically because the directory is owned by root (i.e. not another regular user)? [01:33] extra: well apt-get install, aptitude install they do pretty much the same thing ;) [01:33] keescook: have you looked at policykit much? [01:34] * calc uses dselect :-) [01:34] subterrific: oh, but aptitude will fix said problem and apt-get won't?? oh, wait.. I think I see what you mean... just manually install it [01:34] right? [01:37] mgunes: I'm not aware of the plans regarding policykit but it seems like that could work. [01:39] this is weird.. so, I had synaptic applying an upgrade, but I forgot about it and I did a 'sudo aptitude install openoffice.org-l10n-blahblah' and, appropriately, it cried saying it couldn't get a lock on /var/lib/dpkg/lock .. but then, surprisingly, it went on to do the installation [01:39] bdmurray, let's keep it confirmed then [01:40] well, it looks like synaptic failed it's upgrade and aptitude came in and bumped it out of the lock [01:40] New bug: #183668 in ubuntu "Wine Looking for Internet Explorer when its not to be found" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183668 [01:43] but aptitude went on to say that all of the openoffice packages are broken, and to complete the operation 97 MB will be freed, removing 13 openoffice packages, python-uno, and ubuntu-desktop... [01:44] extra: yes i just meant to manually install [01:44] it asks to accept this solution, etc.. then it has a new slew of messages, looks like basically the same thing, but now it says 290MB will be freed [01:45] * extra is reticent to accept this solution [01:45] removing the "ubuntu-desktop" package sounds risky [01:46] Good call :) [01:46] * extra wipes his brow [01:46] I knew it wasn't the red wire! [01:51] New bug: #183671 in usplash (main) "Race with drawing vs. vt switching" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183671 [01:55] well, I'm just going to leave it as is, until I find that a bunch of stuff is broken.. otherwise I'll just wait till final release and do a reinstall then [02:10] mdmurray? The question is, should I report it on launchpad too with a link to the bug on bugzilla? [12:53] New bug: #178622 in compiz (main) "compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/178622 [12:53] New bug: #179479 in compiz (main) "compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/179479 [12:53] New bug: #179633 in compiz (main) "compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in eventLoop() (dup-of: 179801)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/179633 [12:53] New bug: #179801 in compiz (main) "compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in eventLoop()" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/179801 [12:53] New bug: #180071 in compiz (main) "compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in groupGetStretchRectangle()" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/180071 [12:53] XiXaQ, that totally depends, bugs that are caused by packaging shouldnt go upstream ... the others indeed may be linked to bugzilla [12:54] how do I know if it's caused by packaging? [12:54] well :) [12:54] XiXaQ: report upstream only, we don't have the ressources to do their work [12:54] either by looking at the code and finding it out yourself or by talking to someone who knows the package :) [12:55] XiXaQ: we have almost no evolution patch, it's not likely issues there will be distro specific [12:55] ogra, there isn't any typical symptoms? [12:55] XiXaQ, seb128 cares for evo, so do what he says [12:55] XiXaQ, dependency probs during package updates/install would be a very likely candidate ... [12:56] XiXaQ: what we do with evolution bugs is only to send valid ones on bugzilla so no need to open those on launchpad [12:56] New bug: #175543 in compiz (main) "compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/175543 [12:56] seb128, yes, that's why I'm asking. By reporting it to launchpad too, I was thinking it could reduce the workload. [12:56] New bug: #176451 in compiz (main) "compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/176451 [12:56] seb128, oh, so you don't check if it's already filed on bugzilla before reporting it? [12:56] XiXaQ: what workload? we will just add an upstream watch and it'll increase the list of bugs and make working on it harder [12:56] XiXaQ: we do, why? [12:58] seb128, well, if someone files a bug on launchpad that I've already filed on bugzilla, then someone would have to go to bugzilla, see if the bug is already reported, etc. If I file a bug on launchpad too, with a link to bugzilla, then I was thinking it'd be easier to know that you don't have to. [12:58] you assume that people would look over the hundred of evolution bugs before sending theirs [12:58] that's usually not the case [12:58] those who know enough about that usually file their bugs upstream directly [12:59] hmm. That's what I asked.. If you check to see that the bug isn't already filed on bugzilla? [12:59] I don't understand the question [12:59] when I file a bug I send it on bugzilla and look if the issue has already been reported there [12:59] when we forward launchpad bugs we do the same [13:00] if you open a bug on bugzilla no need to open it on launchpad as well though [13:00] well, it's normal for users of ubuntu to file bugs on launchpad. If that's a duplicate of a bug I've already filed on bugzilla, wouldn't it be easier to detect that if I'd also reported it on launchpad? [13:00] because the only thing we will do is to add a watch to the upstream bug [13:00] if we wanted every upstream bug on launchpad we would import bugzilla [13:00] XiXaQ: we already do that [13:00] check for dups on LP then bugzilla... [13:01] wehn somebody add a bug on launchpad we look upstream if the issue is listed [13:01] pedro_, right. If I stated in a bugreport on launchpad that this bug has already been filed there, then you'd only have to find the duplicate in launchpad? [13:01] when it's there we add a bug watch [13:01] otherwise we sent it to bugzilla [13:02] XiXaQ: that's not clear [13:02] what is not clear, my description? [13:02] you suggest creating a launchpad bug for every bugzilla bug to make possible to use only launchpad to find duplicates? [13:02] no. My bugs. [13:03] how your bugs are different of the bugs from an another user? [13:03] well, those automatic bugs, for instance. They don't have the level of detail that my bugs will have, because I've spent hours learning as much as possible about them. [13:04] right [13:04] but what I say is that we don't have the ressources to do evolution hacking [13:04] so we will just copy your bug on bugzilla [13:04] no, you'll search for duplicates on launchpad, then on bugzilla, if I understand correctly? [13:04] if you can file it directly there we don't have to copy and it's less work for everybody [13:05] right, we don't send duplicates [13:05] but if you file it upstream we will not have anything to do on launchpad [13:05] which is less work for everybody when the issue is an upstream one [13:06] no need to search on launchpad, no need to open 2 bugs, no need to update the launchpad bug when upstream update theirs [13:06] ok, then if I file a bug on bugzilla. Another user comes along and files a duplicate bug on launchpad. You'll search through launchpad and won't find any. You'll then search through bugzilla and find mine. If I filed the same bug on launchpad too, then the second step could've been skipped. [13:06] New bug: #183757 in kdeaddons (main) "kicker-applet "Media Control" player set to noatun, not amarok" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183757 [13:06] right [13:06] though I search on bugzilla first because it's easier to find duplicates there than on launchpad [13:06] heh, I feel like I'm making at least some sense of sense :) [13:06] oh, ok. [13:06] I often search on bugzilla to find launchpad bug numbers [13:07] and your case is a win when somebody else file a duplicate of your issue [13:07] but most of the bugs have no duplicate [13:07] so it creates extra mails and work on hundred of bugs only in case a few there would get duplicates [13:09] I see. [13:10] open on launchpad bugs we should consider for the next ubuntu though [13:10] so we know about those [13:10] hmm? [13:10] but no need to file small issues or wishlist there we don't have the ressources to work on those [13:10] if you have a bug that is really annoying, open it also on launchpad [13:10] so we can milestone it === _bigon is now known as bigon` === bigon` is now known as bigon [13:11] and make sure to work with upstream to get it fixed for hardy [13:11] we don't have the ressources to work on small issues [13:11] but we try making sure the software is usuable [13:12] does it make sense to you? [13:12] New bug: #183759 in elisa (universe) "Please update Elisa to latest version (0.3.3)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183759 [13:12] so no wishlist bugs, but real errors should be filed? [13:13] in doubt open it on launchpad and mention the upstream bug number if there is one [13:13] that's not easier to explain the limit [13:13] there is some sort of bugs we want to fix before a stable [13:14] crashers which happens for lot of users is one example [13:15] right. That automatic chrash report thingy.. I don't remember what it's called. Are those compared automatically, or is each handled manually? [13:15] apport [13:15] right. [13:15] it does automatic debug retracing and duplicates closing [13:18] I see. === bigon is now known as bigon` === bigon` is now known as bigon [13:29] New bug: #183761 in ubuntu "reported to http://www.protonic.com "getting error message installing computertemp"" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183761 [13:31] New bug: #183762 in mysql-dfsg-5.0 (main) "mysqldumpslow doesn't work" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183762 [13:35] New bug: #178268 in gnome-vfs2 "gnome-vfs-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV" [Medium,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/178268 [13:56] New bug: #183764 in procmeter3 (universe) "Please sync procmeter3 3.5a-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183764 [13:56] New bug: #183766 in language-pack-cs (main) "Nové návrhy na překlad gcompris" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183766 [14:00] New bug: #183768 in spacechart (universe) "Please sync spacechart 0.9.5-14 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)." [19:20] icedtea is in hardy but its still in universe for now so we can't compile OOo with it yet [19:21] subterrific: marking them as in progress should be fine and note on the report that this probably will be fixed once we can use the icedtea jdk [19:21] ok [19:22] so that once we have icedtea compiled debs we can go back and verify if it fixed the problem :) === Kmos_ is now known as Kmos === bigon is now known as bigon` [19:26] New bug: #183827 in ubiquity (main) "Installer crashed" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183827 [19:36] New bug: #183846 in evolution (main) "google calendar source does not show all events" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183846 [19:41] New bug: #183848 in dpkg (main) "md5sums don't match installed files" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183848 === bigon` is now known as bigon [19:45] New bug: #183849 in ubuntu "update to cvs version of screen" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183849 [19:50] New bug: #183851 in rhythmbox (main) "Rhythmbox not saving file info" [Low,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183851 [19:50] New bug: #183853 in bzr-svn "bzr status crash w/ svn checkout" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183853 [19:51] New bug: #183850 in policykit (main) "gnome-system-tools can't authenticate (dup-of: 183673)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183850 === bigon is now known as bigon` === bigon` is now known as bigon [20:00] New bug: #183859 in ubuntu "RAM upgrade (2x2GB RAM) on Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon -> Not able to connect by IPW3945 WiFi" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/183859 [20:00] New bug: #183860 in pam (main) "pam_cracklib.so doesn't work as it should?
