mindframecan someone help me?00:00
mindframeas soon as my system logs in it exits back to gdm00:01
lime4x4it's 80 bucks for Pentium D 1.6 daul core or 50 bucks for a celeron 3.4 ghz single core00:03
tgm4883lime4x4, I ran that on a 1.6 C2D00:05
tgm4883with HD00:05
lime4x4this is th ene i'm looking at  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681911603700:06
portahexpentium d never went as low as 1.6ghz did it?00:06
portahexah, that's not pentium-d00:07
lime4x4it's core duo just a dual core cpu00:07
rhpot1991_laptopdual core will be nice for transcoding and commflagging and stuff00:07
rhpot1991_laptopwhere that can eat a single core and not effect the system00:07
portahexdespite the name, it's based on core, not pentium-d00:08
portahexthat celeron is pentium-d based though00:08
lime4x4so go with a 1.6 dual core00:08
portahexi would00:08
lime4x4that's what i was thinking00:10
superm1okay quick question to folks idling in here.  would you be more confused if we had an 8.04 public alpha 1 or public alpha 3 (since you haven't seen the last two)00:11
portahexi'm confused generally00:11
rhpot1991_laptopI like 8.04 alpha 1 better00:12
lime4x4i'd go with 8.04 public alpha 100:12
portahexhas there been that version freeze thing on hardy yet?00:12
superm1yeah its right about to happen00:13
superm1which makes for a lot of trouble because 0.21 of mythtv isn't ready yet00:13
superm1so there is a level of reluctance to add a snapshot00:13
portahexcurrently i'm concerned about monodevelop. it's off-topic, but the version in hardy is neolithic & it's causing serious problems for upstream when half their bug reports come from ubuntu00:14
superm1portahex, is it in universe?00:15
portahexyeah00:16
superm1lets see, we have 0.14 in hardy00:16
superm1what's the newest one?00:16
superm1looks like 0.18 is in debian00:17
superm1just needs a merge on our end00:17
superm1let me check MoM and DaD00:17
superm1is 0.18 new enough?00:19
portahexyeah00:20
superm1if its an easy merge i'll fix that right now00:20
superm1looks like it should be00:20
portahexi don't know if there's a specific reason it hasn't been merged - libmono-addins-gui0.2-cil has been updated to the required version00:21
portahexi ought to check with slomo00:21
superm1well pochu was the last merger00:22
superm1in november00:22
superm1slomo hasn't touched it since july00:22
portahexsod it, hit the button. worst case scenario, it wakes up people who are meant to be maintaining it00:22
portahexblame me if they moan \o/00:22
superm1well meant to be maintaining it is the whole "team" i'm part of00:24
superm1so...00:24
superm1:)00:24
portahexubuntu-motu?00:26
superm1yeah00:26
lime4x4okay while i'm waiting for my new processor to arrive if i install a celeron d then install mythbuntu then install the 1.6 ghz dual core cpu will that mess anything up?00:28
superm1shouldn't00:28
portahexshould be fine00:28
lime4x4okay another question should i use eide drive or sata? I have a 500 gig external usb 2.0 drive for storage00:29
portahexpata is dead00:30
lime4x4i know i have a few 160 gig ones laying around and i also have a 110 gig sata first genration drive00:31
lime4x4just trying to recycle when possible..lol00:32
Xenocidesuperm1, ya there?00:41
javatexanfound a little oversight on the ubuntu install....it doesnt work very well on 800x600 ;)01:09
superm1javatexan, yeah there is a bug filed about that01:10
superm1there should hopefully be a fix coming in ubiquity in the near future01:10
superm1portahex, that merge actually wasn't too bad01:10
superm1any other big showstopping apps you know of that need their newer versions?01:10
superm1Xenocide, yeah i'm here.01:12
Xenocidei tried what you said, no luck01:12
superm1Xenocide, okay well so does it work via the init script now?01:12
Xenocideno01:12
superm1okay then your hardware.conf is still broke01:12
superm1remove all those LIRCD_ARGS01:12
superm1you did that right?01:12
Xenocidewell if i do lircd -d /dev/lirc0 /etc/lirc/hardware.conf it works fine01:13
Xenocideyes i did01:13
superm1well that file isn't used via the lircd binary01:13
superm1its used via the init script01:13
superm1can you restart via the init script and show me the execution line as seen via 'ps aux'01:13
superm1it should be in the listing01:13
portahexsuperm1, none i enormously care about. i use MD at work though01:13
superm1portahex, are there other MD packages that need to come with this after the merge?01:14
Xenocidesuperm1,  this? root      5204  0.0  0.0   2920   504 ?        Ss   20:14   0:00 /usr/sbin/lircd01:14
superm1Xenocide, that would be it, interesting.01:14
superm1can you pastebin gutsy's init script?01:15
superm1i'm on hardy now and don't have all the old versions handy01:15
Xenocidehow can i copy the whole thing from nano over ssh?01:15
superm1scp it instead01:15
superm1or use cat01:15
superm1and then scroll up and highlight the whole thing01:15
portahexsuperm1, not at this moment in time. upstream has stopped bundling most add-ins, but hasn't entirely decided how to distribute the separated ones yet, AFAIK01:16
superm1portahex, okay yeah i'm not about to do any NEW packages for something i've never even started :)01:16
portahexsuperm1, push comes to shove, MD has an integrated add-in manager which should download bits & pieces to ~/.config/MonoDevelop01:16
Xenocidehttp://pastebin.ubuntu.com/3766/01:16
superm1Xenocide, okay remove that DEVICE argument01:17
superm1from the hardware.conf01:17
superm1it will be built on its own01:17
Xenocideok01:18
Xenocidestill no go though01:19
superm1okay what does the process listing look like now?01:19
Xenocideid on't even see lirc in there01:20
superm1try to restart it again01:20
Xenocideroot      5251  0.0  0.0   2924   504 ?        Ss   20:20   0:00 /usr/sbin/lircd01:20
superm1hm.01:22
superm1well lets see the current hardware.conf as it stands then01:22
superm1there has to be a typo or something.01:22
Xenocidehttp://pastebin.ubuntu.com/3767/01:22
superm1Oh.01:23
superm1you have a DRIVER defined01:23
superm1do you want to use the kernel mode driver01:24
superm1or the userspace one?01:24
Xenocideuserspace01:24
superm1well what modules are loaded for you right now01:24
superm1can you check for any lirc_*01:24
superm1modules in lsmod01:24
Xenocideatiusb01:24
Xenocideand dev ofcourse01:24
superm1well that would be an issue there01:25
superm1you have the kernel module loaded01:25
superm1but are trying to use userspace01:25
superm1when using userspace, no modules get loaded like that01:25
Xenocideeh? thats what dave morris says to load01:25
Xenocidehah01:25
superm1well this is why it sucks that there are two ways to do it01:25
superm1when you are starting via command line01:26
superm1the sudo lircd -d /dev/lirc001:26
Xenocideshould i re-blacklist that one?01:26
Xenocideright, that works for me01:26
superm1you are telling it to use the kernel module01:26
superm1so if that works, i say take out the DRIVER="blah"01:26
superm1in hardware.conf01:26
superm1and move on your merry way01:26
Xenocideok01:26
superm1and use the kernel mode one01:26
Xenocidehell i dont' care which module as long as it works01:26
Xenocideseems to have worked01:27
Xenocidelet me do that restart thang01:27
Xenocidei got one other issue idk if you have heard of this one01:27
Xenocidebackground music on recordings is so loud its hard to hear the voice01:27
Xenocidequite weird01:27
Xenocidebut playback in mythvideo is fine01:27
superm1no haven't heard that01:28
superm1can you please post this solution that we came up with back to the thread01:29
superm1and explain in the thread so future people don't run into it01:29
Xenocidenp will do01:29
javatexansuperm1 you are on fire tonight ;)01:29
superm1apparently01:30
Xenocideno ideas on the audio problem though?01:30
superm1na01:31
Xenocidehm k01:32
javatexanto install ffmpeg should I uninstal it first in synaptic and mencoder too?01:34
javatexansorry install ffmpeg from source01:34
superm1javatexan, depends what you are trying to achieve with it01:35
javatexanffmpeg is broked in synaptic and ubuntu 7.10 apparently, so I am gonna do it by hand...I guess01:36
javatexanfor x264..etc01:36
superm1its broken?01:37
superm1i've usedd it to transcode things myself.01:37
rhpot1991_laptopffmpeg from gutsy will do h264 (very slowly)01:38
javatexanbeen using mencoder with good success01:39
rhpot1991_laptopjavatexan: back to TV, I'll be around later if you need some help with it01:39
javatexanthanks ...ill try something else for a while too01:39
leprasmurfhello all.  I'm about to start a migration from knoppmyth to mythbuntu.  I'm worried about my LVM, anyone know if mythbuntu has a method for importing existing lvms?01:59
rhpot1991_laptopjavatexan: hows it going?02:17
javatexangood...you?02:17
rhpot1991_laptopnot too bad02:17
rhpot1991_laptophaving any luck with ffmpeg?02:17
javatexanwhat am I missing.... ffmpeg -i infile.mpg -vcodec mpeg2video -acodec mp2 -s 720x480 -b (BITRATE) outfile.mpg02:18
javatexanorig is 480x480, v:mpeg PES and a: mpeg PES02:19
rhpot1991_laptopwhy are you bumping the res then?02:19
tgm4883proper dvd complient02:19
tgm4883most likely02:19
rhpot1991_laptopgive me a second and I'll get a ffmpeg line that I use02:20
javatexannot sure  lol ....guess I will keep the size for now02:20
javatexanyeah ... could do that too02:21
javatexanlol.. still just fishing...thought of doing the video copy, but I cant find that stuff tonight....google just doesnt like me tonite02:21
rhpot1991_laptophmmm what type of output are you trying to get?02:22
rhpot1991_laptopI'm watching TV, so my responses might be a little slow02:23
javatexana compliant mpeg2...right now02:23
javatexanright now it will crash the default player in mythtv after about a minute or two02:23
rhpot1991_laptophmmm I've never gone that way02:25
rhpot1991_laptopalways mpeg2 to mpeg4 or h26402:25
rhpot1991_laptoptry this: http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/faq.html#TOC2102:25
javatexandoes anyone have a to-dvd-mpeg2 conversion....I'll just use that for now02:28
rhpot1991_laptopnuvexport generated this for dvd:02:43
rhpot1991_laptop/usr/bin/nice -n19 ffmpeg -y -f s16le -ar 48000 -ac 2 -i /tmp/fifodir_9441/audout -f rawvideo -pix_fmt yuv420p -s 720x480 -aspect 1.33333333333333 -r 29.970 -i /tmp/fifodir_9441/vidout -aspect 1.3333 -r 29.97 -deinterlace -croptop    6 -cropright 10 -cropbottom 6 -cropleft  10 -s 720x480  -b '6000k' -vcodec mpeg2video -qmin 5 -ab '384k' -ar 48000 -acodec mp2 -f dvd '/mythtv/ipod/5 (WPMT) - Wed Jan 2 14-00-00 2008.mpg' 2>02:43
rhpot1991_laptopyou can try messing with that line or with nuvexport: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Nuvexport02:44
jargonjustinHi, I've got Mythbuntu 7.10 installed on a box with a Hauppauge PVR-150 and am having trouble getting the remote working.  After the install, I tried it and it "just worked" but now that I'm finishing setting up the box, something broke.04:41
superm1well what'd you change?04:41
jargonjustinsuperm1: Nothing, I thought :-/ I did do an apt-get upgrade though04:42
superm1well take a look at your dpkg log04:42
superm1and see what got upgraded04:42
superm1that could have broken in04:42
jargonjustinIt looks like mythbuntu-lirc-generator was upgraded (0.16 to 0.17), but I'm didn't touch the configs at that point04:44
superm1nothing else?04:44
superm1no linux-ubuntu-modules04:44
superm1or kernel or anything04:45
jargonjustinOh, I grepped for lirc, looks like it installed a linux-image04:49
superm1linux-ubuntu-modules installs the kernel modules04:49
jargonjustinI see the package in the initial install, but not for the upgraded image04:50
superm1well check whether the modules are loaded04:51
jargonjustinAlthough "uname -r" says "2.6.22-14-generic" which is what I originally had04:52
superm1and open mcc and check that the proper remote is set04:52
jargonjustinlsmod shows lirc_i2c, lirc_dev and i2c_core, MCC has the Hauppange TV card set (I removed it and had it set it back up again as well)04:53
superm1try irw04:53
superm1and see if you can capture any button presses04:53
jargonjustinLooks like /etc/lirc/lircd.conf is correct as well04:53
jargonjustinNothing from irw still04:54
superm1okay well even though it was fine before, check the cable04:55
superm1just to make sure nothing got jiggled in the process by accident04:55
superm1i know those i2c cables are really finicky04:55
jargonjustinThe cable looks good, I plugged and unplugged to be sure, and the LED lights when it's partially plugged it (it has a blaster which I don't need / haven't tested)04:56
jargonjustinDoes the LiveCD support lirc?04:57
superm1it does04:57
jargonjustinI'll try booting off that and see if it works04:57
superm1it has to (obviously) be configured for your remote04:57
superm1but yeah04:57
jargonjustinThanks for the help by the way04:58
superm1no prob05:00
jargonjustinIt doesn't seem to be working off of the live cd05:04
jargonjustinI'm starting to think it didn't actually work before and maybe I just imagined it…05:08
jargonjustinAny suggestions for other troubleshooting steps, or things that would be good to check if it hadn't worked before?05:15
superm1the batteries in the remote :)05:25
jargonjustinsuperm1: first thing I checked :-)05:27
jargonjustinAlright, thanks for the help05:43
hansoffate-laptohow do i tell if my card is set for opengl?05:51
MythbuntuGuest75mythbuntu requires a front and backed to function correct?05:59

superm1on a stable release updates should be safe17:33

compywill i386 builds work on my amd6418:32
Bastian@ the start of mythbuntu my system are doing scaling die themepictures, is that right ?18:32

thegodfatherok thanks18:42
thegodfatherglibc is fine..18:42
thegodfatherthis is weird18:42
superm1i'm here18:51
superm1thegodfather,18:52
superm1are you on amd64?18:52
thegodfathersuperm1: no, i38618:52
thegodfathersuperm1: i just added some info to #18510818:52
superm1thegodfather, did you just upgrade a bunch of other packages too, or just myth?18:52
thegodfatherdist-upgrade from gutsy to hardy18:52
thegodfatherthis bug could even be a kernel bug18:52
superm1so was mine, and mine is fine (with all packages updated..)18:52
thegodfatherbut i can reboot with an old kernel18:52
thegodfatherand see18:53
thegodfatherok.. rebooting.. just need a few secs18:53
thegodfathersuperm1: i can trigger the issue easily with mythtv-setup18:54
thegodfatherif i try to add a new card, it will scan for /dev/video and crash18:54
thegodfathertry that18:54
superm1well the machine that i'm on doesn't have tuners unfortunately.18:54
thegodfatherthe backend doesn't always crash if you have the option enabled to use a card on demand18:54
superm1can you get a backtrace at all?18:54
thegodfatheryes i have a trace18:54
thegodfatherstrace18:54
thegodfatherbut it's of no use18:55
superm1do you have apport-gtk installed?18:55
superm1or apport-kde ?18:55
thegodfatherno, it's a very custom machine18:55
superm1can you install apport?18:55
superm1it will build a backtrace that is usable18:55
superm1from debug symbols18:55
compywould you guys recommend me installing mythbuntu i386 or i686 if i have amd64x218:56
compyie, are there many problems w/ 64 bit mythtv users?18:57
tgm4883_laptopcompy, FYI, i686 is 32-bit18:57
tgm4883_laptopyou mean x86_6418:57
thegodfathersuperm1: yes i know what apport is, and no, i don't plan to clutter that machine :)18:57
compytgm4883_laptop, oh hehe then yeah x86_6418:57
tgm4883_laptopcompy, i'd run 64-bit version18:57
compytgm4883_laptop, so you dont have any mythtv problems?18:58
superm1thegodfather, well you can remove it when you're done, it would be really useful in this case to catch this issue18:58
superm1since none of us can reproduce it in VMs or anything like that.18:58
tgm4883_laptopcurrently though, im only running 32-bit to do a bug with ir blasting and the pvr-150, although that should be fixed by now18:58
tgm4883_laptopim just too lazy to change it right nowo18:58
tgm4883_laptopnope, no mythtv problems other than the ir blasting thing18:58
tgm4883_laptoplirc was hanging and such18:58
tgm4883_laptopwhat tuners do you have?18:59
compytgm4883_laptop, none currently, but when i buy one ill be sure it will work in 64 bit19:00
tgm4883_laptopcompy, SD or HD?19:00
thegodfathersuperm1: it's not kernel related.. one thing less to worry about19:00
compysd?19:00
thegodfathersuperm1: old kernel shows the same problem19:00
tgm4883_laptopget a PVR-150 or a PVR-50019:00
tgm4883_laptopalthough HD is great19:00
compyi will want to do HD in the future19:00
compyi dotn have a high def tv so its pointless at this point19:01
tgm4883_laptopI suppose19:01
thegodfathersuperm1: apport doesn't catch it19:04
superm1hmm interesting19:09
thegodfathersuperm1: dpkg - warning: downgrading libmyth-0.20 from 0.20.2+fixes15096-0ubuntu2 to 0.20.2-0ubuntu10.1.19:09
thegodfather^^^ this work19:09
thegodfatherany newer version of the library do crash19:09
superm1well that's interesting.19:09
thegodfatherthere can be 2 million reasons why it breaks19:10
thegodfathermostlikely code in mythtv :)19:10
superm1well let me diff the two source packages19:10
superm1and see how much could have really cahnged19:10
thegodfatherso one test would be to rebuild the old source on top of the new toolchain19:10
thegodfatherand see if that's still ok19:10
superm1can you try turning off upnp19:10
superm1there is a whole bunch of upnp changes19:10
superm1in the diff19:11
thegodfatherhow do i do that?19:11
superm1edit /etc/default/mythtv-backend19:11
thegodfatheri am not a real mythtv expert19:11
thegodfatherok19:11
superm1there is an area for extra args19:11
thegodfatherwill they work for mythtv-setup as well?19:11
superm1add --noupnp19:11
superm1to it19:11
thegodfatherthe backend is not running19:11
superm1this is a frontend only box?19:12
thegodfatherthis machine is both19:12
thegodfatherthe backend crashes with the same error19:12
thegodfather19:54 < thegodfather> the backend doesn't always crash if you have the option enabled to use a card on demand19:12
superm1okay hm19:13
thegodfatherbrb...19:13
superm1ls19:13
thegodfatherso will that config change affect mythtv-setup.real or not?19:13
superm1well it changes something in sql19:13
superm1so it potentially can affect mythtv-setup.real19:14
DavieyIs this trunk?19:15
superm1no its not19:16
superm1its just -fixes, uploaded yesterday for a few small bug fixes19:16
* Daviey didn't know upnp was in -fixes :O19:17
superm1yeah they bckported the entire thing from trunk19:17
superm1at 0.20.219:17
Davieyawww, thats very un-myth to introduce whole new features into released versions19:19
DavieySD excemption ofc'19:19
superm1well upnp was causing crashes19:20
superm1in 0.20.119:20
superm1when someone had say a 360 on their network19:20
Davieytwo upnp 'servers'?19:20
superm1beats me what it was19:22
superm1but also my openwrt liked to fsck it up sometimes19:22
superm1well diffing the two .orig.tar.gz's, nothing here looks crazy enough to cause these crashes19:23
superm1very minor changes19:23
Davieyodd19:23
superm1thegodfather, can you ldd that libmyth19:25
superm1and see if something is missing?19:25
superm1Daviey, okay i tested the new iso you made19:55
superm1appears to be working fine19:55
superm1i dont see the issue thegodfather was having either19:55
superm1but then again i dont have a tuner in this box19:55
superm1so i cant put that option for using a card on demand19:55
thegodfathersuperm1: nothing was missing. that was my first check19:55
superm1thegodfather, hm19:56
superm1the thing is that stat64, i thought came from glibc19:56
superm1so that's just so bizarre19:56
thegodfathersuperm1: it's there..19:57
thegodfatherlet me upload the strace somewhere19:57
thegodfatheryou will see tons of lstats64 before that one19:57
thegodfatherthat was my second thought..19:57
thegodfatherand glibc is fine19:57
superm1well the thing that also gets me, is k3b broke recently19:57
superm1according to one of those bugs19:57
thegodfatherlack of stat64 would make the world come to a unpleasent end19:57
superm1so it makes me think build-dependency that broke19:57
superm1yes it would19:58
thegodfatherwell check the build log?20:01
thegodfatherand diff it with the old one20:01
superm1there has been a ton of changes on the build depends20:01
superm1i can say that for sure20:01
_taz_superm1 do you know of mythtv working with IPTV, specifically U-Verse from AT&T?20:19
superm1no i can't say i do20:19
_taz_this could suck :)20:19
=== _taz_ is now known as TazgodX
superm1i can't say i dont either though :)20:19
TazgodXim switching from comcast digital cable to AT&T U-Verse very shortly and my mythbox might be useless20:20

TazgodXhmmm, what kind of host name is that tgm4883?20:24
=== fabbione is now known as thegodfather
thegodfathersuperm1: did you try to talk to Marillat?20:26
superm1thegodfather, our package is significantly different than his nowadays20:26
thegodfatherhis library segfaults the same way20:26
superm1thegodfather, on a debian box?20:27
superm1or on hardy?20:27
thegodfatheron hardy20:27
thegodfatheri don't have debian here20:27
superm1see that's why i'm thinking another library that we depend on is doing it20:27
thegodfathersuperm1: look for the code that opens /dev/video...20:28
superm1if this was only happening in the frontend, i'd say take off mythmusic, because there is a libmp5v2 transition going on20:28
thegodfathershouldn't be too hard to spot20:28
superm1but since its with video devices in the backend...20:28
superm1*mp420:28
thegodfatherand -setup...20:28
thegodfathernot just the backend20:28
thegodfatheroh good... the mercurial repo of v4l-dvb + hvr3000 patch starts to work decently20:30
thegodfatherat least dvb-s, dvb-t and analog..20:30
thegodfatherradio is still flacky20:30
wekI have some trouble with the xmltv. I adde xmltv as videosource , then connected it to my two dvb cards in the input connections. Then I added the xmltv id via mythweb into the channels. After doing mythfilldatabase --manual, the xmltv asks me for callsign,channelid,... and creates new channels. I searched for mythtv and xmltv tutorials on the net but did not find any. Help appreciated. wek: Well I guess i should aska question: Which channels20:31
wek do I need to delete? Is there any sense of unclicking the dvb epg data tickbox at the end in mythweb?20:31
trimetaAnyone know how the UPnP/DLNA stuff works? In particular, where do I put my music on my Mythbuntu box such that it will be shared?20:31
wektrimeta: Shared via which protocol: samba?20:32
trimetaNo, UPnP.20:32
trimetaI've got Samba sharing working.20:32
trimetahttp://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Talk:UPnP20:32
trimetaWait, not the talk page.20:32
trimetaBut you get the idea.20:33
tgm4883TazgodX, huh?20:34
tgm4883oh, thats the default one for the space station20:34
tgm4883we get pretty good connection up here, but no ipv420:34
superm1tgm4883, oh is that why your build took so long?20:36
tgm4883heh, yep20:36
tgm4883it's a wireless connection, so we have to deal with solar flares20:36
tgm4883and sun spots20:36
superm1it all makes sense now20:36
tgm4883now you know why I can't get cable anymore ;)20:37
tgm4883_laptopAny alpha testers around?22:23
rinaldi_hi i set a program to record earlier and it finished 30 mins ago. however when i go to view my recording through the frontend via media library > watch recordings i can only see a few of my previous recordings. the program i recorded is definitly in var/lib/mythtv/recordings . is there anything i have missed out?22:35
