Dr_willisI used to perfer ati ages ago... Now i have to say. with Linux. Its still  Best to use Nvidia.02:06
Dr_williseven under windows.. I have to favor Nvidia - just because they seemt o have less hassles.02:07
unix_lappyDr_willis: actually, ati on windows is really quite easy.02:08
unix_lappyit's just linux that's so crazy hard, even after the amd buyout, even after the users yelling at them.02:08
unix_lappywhich is why media companies who have engineers who work with opengl and linux (which is quite a lot lately) are gaining momentum02:09
Dr_willisunix_lappy,  given the issues ive had with it in the past.. I dissagree.. :)  I switched to Nvidia about a yr ago. and havent looked back.02:09
unix_lappyDr_willis: I havent bought a computer in the last couple years.02:09

Dr_willisits was nice how ati and nvidia kept leap frogging each other with new cards.. but seems now they are just all forcing more gpus on the same card.02:09
tekteenand works with linux02:09
unix_lappyDr_willis: i think the AMD ATI buyout was a bigggg mistake.02:10
Dr_willisI got a ati 9800  (i think) was the last ati card i got.02:10
unix_lappythey spread themselves too thin, and didnt manage resources to compete with c2d02:10
Dr_willisI dont plan on getting ati any more in the future. Unless they do some major changes.02:10
Dr_willisNow if only Intel would focus on making some decent offerings and give us a 3 way competition.02:10
unix_lappythey have no reason in the world too.02:11
unix_lappyto*02:11
Dr_willisIts downright amazing the power of todays video cards. and gee the games Still manage to suck it all down.02:11
Dr_willisI keep hearing that Intel is looking into it. but so far just rumors. :)02:11
unix_lappyDr_willis: it doesnt work that way, games build against future trends in technology, because it takes so long to get a game out.02:11
Dr_willisthen ya get 90% of the market that cant play a new game. :) catch-2202:12
Dr_willisCrysis was at least playable on my box. after i turned it down a bit.02:12
unix_lappyDr_willis: no you get 90% who cant play, 10% who can (the l33t) who then talk down to the n00bs who cant afford the latest hardware.02:12
unix_lappywhich leads to more buying.02:12
* Agent_bob doesn't upgrade02:13
Dr_williswe will see what next years trends will be.  $500 video cards are getting hard to justify.02:13

norvit edits the address line when you are changing it..03:19
NickPrestaNegatratoron, personally, I can't read a backtrace and I don't know what could be causing amarok to crash. I would ask in #amarok, find a way to get the backtrace and hope someone can diagnose the problem. You can then submit a bug to Kubuntu if the problem isn't specific to your machine...03:19

hellothereherehi, advanced desktop effects does not work on kubuntu?07:42
level1Hi, I'm using yakuake which is similar to konsole.  The bash function "clear" doesn't actually clear the screen, rather it just scrolls up a little bit so that the history is out of view07:43
Jucatolevel1: that's actually the same behavior in Konsole07:45
level1Jucato: I'm not suprised07:46
level1enouf didn't have a solution07:46
AshexHow do I change the default file viewer back to konquerer from Dolphin?07:46
Jucato!d3lphin | Ashex07:47
ubotuAshex: Dolphin, or more properly D3lphin, is the new default file manager for Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. If you would like to make Konqueror your default file manager again, go to Konqueror - Settings menu - Configure Konqueror - File Associations and change the association for inode/directory and inode/system_directory to Konqueror at the top rather than Dolphin.07:47
Ashexthe dual-sidebars is driving me insane07:47
Ashexah07:47
Ashexthanks Jucato07:47
JucatoAshex: you can remove the sidebar07:47
Jucatoremove, reposition, merge, etc07:47
Jucatoit's more flexible than Konqueror's sidebar07:47
Ashexhow does one do that?07:47
Ashexthe preferences menu is really basic07:48
Jucatolevel1: all terminals behave the same way, even tty's07:48
JucatoAshex: View menu I think. View -> Panels07:48
Ashexoh damn07:48
Ashexit was that easy?07:48
Ashexwow. I feel really stupid now07:48
Jucatodon't. :)07:49
level1Jucato: yakuake and konsole behave differently07:49
Jucatolevel1: how so?07:50
Ashexhmm07:50
level1Jucato: yakuake doesn't put blank lines after clear07:50
level1Jucato: try it07:50
AshexJucato, know how to add more details to the details view?07:50
AshexI kinda wish I could include filetype in it07:50
level1sorry, not as many blank lines07:50
JucatoAshex: not sure. try right-clicking on the column headers07:50
Ashexyeah, that doesn't work for me :/07:50
Ashexeh, I'll just leave it be07:51
Ashexfilter bar works fine07:51
Jucatolevel1: yakuake can't behave different from konsole because yakuake uses konsole inside it. how are you determining the amount of blank lines?07:51
level1yakuake only makes 3 blank lines, I can count them07:52
level1konsole makes 1007:52
level1I wish it was configurable, I could just set it to 1000 or 100000007:52
Jucatodo they both have the same height?07:52
* Jucato is confused as to what level1 actually means...07:53
level1Jucato: no, they have different heights07:54
level1Jucato: clear is height dependant?07:54
Jucatoafaik, yes07:54
level1is there another terminal that isn't as retarded?07:56
level1I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that07:56
level1but is there an alternative?07:56
Ashexthere is a gnome equivelant to yakuake07:57
level1it probably does the same thing07:57
Ashextilda07:57
Ashexwhat is the issue?07:57
AshexI used tilda and it behaves differently then yakuake07:57
Jucatolevel1: try any terminal, even try tty1 (ctrl+alt+f1) and you'll see that they're the same07:58
Jucatounless I'm misunderstanding your issue, it's really the default behavior of any terminal/terminal emulator07:58
Ashexand guake, but it was just released in the wild a few weeks ago07:59
Jucatoclear scrolls up a number of lines, depending on the terminal's height, so that the prompt would be at the very top line07:59
level1Jucato: what I want is a command which deletes the entire history07:59
stdinif you want a "true" clear on a TTY then "clear_console" is the way08:00
level1Jucato: so I don't have to figure out: is this the output the last time I ran gcc or the time before08:00
level1stdin: is there a X11 terminal equivilent to clear_console?08:00
Jucatoclose the tab. that would solve your problem08:01
stdinlevel1: that'd be application specific08:01
=== dustin is now known as MrLinky

Jucato20 seconds? O.o08:01

Jucatoharmental: I think there  might be a KDE frontend for pdftk... try searchin in kde-apps.org08:04
level1oh thank god08:04
level1wait... it doesn't work for yakuake08:04
Jucatolevel1: yeah... it's very Konsole-specific...08:04
harmentalJucato:08:04
harmentalthx08:04
JucatoI'm guessing that the embedded konsole doesn't provide that functionality so yakuake can't use it08:05

Jucato[16:12] <Jucato> [16:12] <Jucato> Settngs -> Configure Notifications? (one last try?)08:13

RamlaI think i've got the xorg config in a state that it would work (in logon screen the monitors are in bigdesktop mode) but when kde launches, it goes into clone mode08:48
Ramlain gnome it does the same but you can set the resolution to a dualscreen res. can't figure out what I should do in kde to get the same effect08:49

AMcBainWhat's wrong with ext3?21:10
mikeosflipstar: you're right, but consider laptop users with glidepoint/touchpad on hi-res LCDs  always reaching window decoratin sections to move/size windows..21:10

articpenguinthe overhead i lost 8GB because of ext321:11

Invisible_Slackflipstar,  in my xorg.0.log it shows that glx, dri, drm,dde modules are all loaded no problems, It loads the "ATI" driver and still won't do the 3d rendering21:11

ahmosHi, I had this problem while mounting 2 ntfs partitions..they r sda1&2..I opened fstab and added this line to both of them22:30
ahmos  nls=utf8 user,fmask=0111,dmask=0000   0   022:30
brian__I am having a problem burning an ISO.. K3b is telling me "Cdrecord has no permission to open the device.. what does that mean?22:31
ahmosand then itried to mount bysudp mount -a and i get this message Line 8& 10 are bad22:31
ahmosany ideas?!!!!!22:31
Flare183brian__: means you don't have permission to burn anything to the cdrom's device22:31
BobSappnormally k3b has a wizard to allow access to the cdwriter device22:31
ahmosanybody help plz?22:32
brian__Why don't I have ther permission and how can I get it? Does it deal with the chown thing?22:33

brian__I think it could be the file. How do I check?22:36
BobSappyou should have at least read access on the iso22:36
BobSappalso k3b should do a checksum on the page just before burning22:36
brian__I believe I do. By right clicking on the file and checking the permissions? And k3b did a checksum and it came out fine22:37
BobSapphmm22:37
BobSappsorry then i dont know what else it could be22:37

BobSappbut22:39
BobSapphave you switched the pc off since the last time it didnt work?22:39
