[01:15] hello, everyone [01:16] I'm in need of some help. [01:17] I have a PVR-500. Tuner 1 is fine. Tuner 2 records blackness. [01:17] Any suggestions? [01:19] As stupid as this sounds, are you using the same channel lineup for both tuners? [01:24] MythbuntuGuest83, hmm [01:25] Ha. Yes, both have the same lineup [01:25] Are there more than 1 header on the card? [01:25] I had this same problem a few days ago, although I use SVideo inputs [01:26] Ok, that rules out the stupid, on to the odd... During the setup, did you set up the same bits for both tuners 0 and 1? [01:26] turns out I needed to be plugged into the second header, not the first [01:26] Agamotto, I'm not sure what you mean by the same bit. [01:27] When you set up the tuners, you set up a channel list, etc for tuner 0 and tuner 1? [01:28] Agamotto, yes, both have a channel list. [01:28] I don't suppose you have a link to your specific card [01:28] Hmmm [01:28] What sort of link? [01:29] like if you ordered it off of newegg, that link. That way we could tell exactly which one you have [01:29] Try this, as odd as it sounds... take the lead/cable from tuner 0 and put it on tuner 1, see if anything appears on the screen [01:30] Ah. It's a Hauppauge PVR-500 with a samsung chip. [01:30] I wish the HVR-1600 was supported [01:31] Agamotto, my card only has one input connection. [01:31] MythbuntuGuest83, how are you hooked up to your card? With coax, svideo, composite, etc? [01:32] MythbuntuGuest83, where did you get this card? [01:33] Now that is funny, as Hauppauge assured me in an email recently that the WinTV HVR-1800 would work with Mythbuntu [01:33] Amazon, but it's not new. It previously worked on my Ubuntu Feisty Mythtv setup. [01:33] The card receives it's signal with coax cable. [01:33] MythbuntuGuest83: I would have to say that I am stumped then. [01:33] agamotto, I believe the 1800 uses the same chipset, and it's limited support in linux right now [01:34] MythbuntuGuest83, AFAIK, you can only record 1 channel per hookup [01:34] Hrm [01:35] No, the card has an internal splitter. My previous Feisty setup recorded two shows at once. [01:36] Now that would be odd. MythTv confirms that there are two tuners that it sees? [01:36] hmm [01:36] Yes, it sees both. [01:36] Speaking of questions: Does anyone know if any of the USB stick tuners works with Mythbuntu? [01:36] and you set the card up twice in mythtv-setup, one set to /dev/video0 and one set to /dev/video1? [01:36] Now that is truly odd [01:37] tgm, that's right. [01:37] agamotto, nvm, it's a different chipset, which is supported [01:37] http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-1800 [01:38] nvm? [01:41] nevermind [01:41] ahhhh [01:41] txt spk? [01:42] only problem with that card is I don't have any pci-e slots in my box [01:42] that's aim speak from like 10 years ago [01:42] Ahhh [01:43] I am working on doing up a box for my mum, and I figured that the easiest route might be the USB stick-style tuners, but Hauppauge only came up with the 1800. [01:43] Well, if that is all that will work, I suppose that would be it. [01:44] I really wish I would have bought the pvr-150 that was right next to it when I bought it [01:44] frink__, ping [01:45] Hmmm, according to the wiki, analog support on the card isn't there yet... confusing [01:46] I have a pvr-150 in my current box... works well [01:46] yeah, I wish I would have gotten one [01:46] Try amazon [01:47] eBay, if that doesn't scare you away [01:47] newegg [01:51] how are the WinTV-PVR 500 ? [01:52] I could not say, as I haven't played with the multi-tuner cards yet [01:55] mine works pretty good, although I have to use the svideo inputs [01:56] Svideo in? what from/for? [01:56] I have read that they are a little sensitive to too much power from the coax (degrades picture) [02:00] * agamotto twiddles [02:05] I almost want to over night a pvr-500 [02:08] Tempting, isn't it? [02:08] only bad thing is, it won't actually get here tomorrow [02:09] Who knows? [02:09] I ordered the kit for mum's new box Monday, and everything but the memory was here yesterday, with ground shipping [02:10] order has to get in before like 5 [02:10] Turns out that they have a warehouse in Naperville, Il., with my living in Moline [02:10] yea in order for it to get there tomarrow, it would have to ship today [02:11] and I don't think any new orders are going out tonight for newegg [02:12] True, but I was rather surprised that TigerDirect got my kit to me next day... Usually, 3day ground w/UPS means about a week [02:19] is there a way to install/enable mythmovies in mythbuntu, or do i need sources? [02:20] I am afraid that question is out of my league, as I only use it as a DVR [02:20] mythmovies is just on by default isn't it? [02:21] isn't it just mythvideo now? [02:21] I am not sure. I have played with the streams a bit, but I don't use most of the other functions [02:22] perhaps its called something else now, im looking for movie times at the cinema, aka getting out of the house :) [02:22] oh [02:22] it was in previous releases if i recall correctly === MythbuntuGuest25 is now known as Z-Man === Z-Man is now known as MythbuntuGuest25 [02:24] http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MythMovies [02:24] nope [02:24] it's in trunk [02:24] that is in trunk [02:24] it's brand new [02:24] thats all i can find, other than mentions of thetr unk [02:25] i get that through svn correct? [02:25] you can get it via weekly builds [02:25] well as of this upcoming weekend's weekly build at least [02:25] I have problems with iso playback in the weekly builds [02:25] it will be included in that [02:27] so by enabling weekly builds, i will receive the mythmovies plugin? [02:28] I haven't even tried to burn a dvd with it yet [02:28] I use it mostly as a better VCR [02:28] MythbuntuGuest25, as of this next build yes [02:28] as of right now im using it as a huge dvd jukebox so to speak, i haven't narrowed down a capture card yet [02:29] what do you store your dvd's on? [02:29] You rip them into the hd, right? [02:29] two sata hd's lvm'ed together [02:30] yes, perfect mode which creates vob's [02:30] some people like special features and menus, i hate them [02:30] well, i like special features _once_ [02:30] I wanna take my dvd's and my girlfriends dvd's and turn it into a huge dvd server.. but the problem is, I need alot of storage space (4tb right now and room to grow) [02:31] thats some serious movies [02:31] Hmmm, now that would be a use for a serious movie fan... [02:32] together we have 509 movies [02:33] not that anybody's counting [02:33] I have a movie database going for our movies [02:33] Wow. Far more than I have... my whole collection would add up to about 60 [02:35] you figure an average of 20 bucks per movie, that comes to $10,180 [02:35] sad isn't it? [02:35] Hmmm, I have rarely paid over $10 [02:36] depending on what you get and where you get it [02:36] I always wait about 6months after something comes out... save a lot that way [02:37] i haven't gotten to one yet, but how do you rip/catalog episode dvds, such as family guy seasons? [02:37] for storage space, you probably don't need to archive the whole disc either, movie only [02:39] im still trying to figure out how to remove foreign language audio tracks from it...i found a guide using mplayer but it core dumps [02:44] why would you want to? [02:44] space [02:45] one of my movies defaulted to french, though i might have done something goofy, i havent tried it recently [03:02] My first DVD player defaulted to Espanol for everything... took me three days to get it to English [03:12] Here is a question I didn't think of... if someone wanted to set up a unit with two pvr-150s, would one remote control both tuners, or would you be stuck with needing two remotes? [03:13] can't imagine you would [03:13] if you had two identical tvs either remote would control either [03:13] Ok, I wasn't sure if it would work that way, as I can't see how each tuner would know which one you are 'aiming at' with the remote [03:14] Unless you move the little 'eyes' a few feet apart? [03:14] as i understand it, the remote controls the computer, not the card [03:14] Hmmm, I will look it up on the install guide [03:15] does anyone know what the text viewer is used to view the full plot info in in mythvideo, when viewing by list? [03:17] not sure i understand your question [03:18] agamotto: http://www.pvrweb.com/bbs/lofiversion/index.php/t5235.html [03:19] im talking about the window that displays the plot info when in mythvideo [03:19] ok what about it [03:19] you can bring it up by typing i then choose view full plot [03:20] is it a text viewer or part of myth frontend [03:20] Danke [03:20] you mean this? http://www.mythtv.org/mythimages/mythvideo4.png [03:20] i guess i mean is it a standalone text viewer that myth uses or codeed into mythfrontend [03:21] its probably coded into it, it doesn't appear to be external viewer [03:21] ummm, no [03:21] it available when in list view [03:21] im sure, but not positive, that the plot information is stored in the mysql database, and is just regurgitated on the screen [03:22] Ok, that settles it. I will just get two pvr-150s, and not bother with the digital until cable switches over... [03:23] ota is switching, not cable [03:23] though they probably won't offer analog packages much longer past the deadline [03:23] if your in mythvideo, in the tree list view, then press the i key, you get a window, it looks to be a text viewer [03:24] I know... this box is mostly for cable tv viewing, so I don't mind spending on two 150s... they will last until the switch-over [03:24] i dont see ntsc going away anytime soon [03:25] i have dish network sd and it is connected to my tv via the ntsc...nothing changes for me next year [03:25] yep, boxes will still exist for analog [03:26] the only problem you might run into, and the 'problem' that i have is that the built in tuner won't be changing the channels [03:26] I just wish all of the companies would just sit down and make crap that 'just works.' The term 'universal remote' should be punishable by $50,000 fine for each use on packaging [03:27] i thought they were unreversible remotes [03:27] lol [03:29] by that analogy, so should 'plug in play', 'usb', and 'one size fits all' [03:29] plug n play [03:32] Plug and Play, especially. USB is pretty reliable... least problems I have ever had with cabling/devices [03:32] my biggest beef with usb is the connector is square instead of some shape that signifies its alignment [03:32] like the other end has [03:32] Ok, I can see that [03:34] as long as we're bitchin.. [03:34] whats the deal with printer ink? [03:34] heh [03:35] No kidding [03:35] I seal my carts in ziplocs, as I don't print that often [03:35] their biggest money maker by far [03:35] I would consider Kodak, but I am not going to buy a new printer to use their ink [03:35] go to a store and there's a whole aisle full of them, and thats just the latest versions [03:36] I do quite well with the home refill kits [03:36] not one is compatible with another [03:36] although they are not marketed as universal [03:36] true [03:36] but why not? [03:37] and you can get generic [03:37] Yep, my neighbors are big fans of Walgreen's refilling [03:37] it's a balance between features and standards [03:38] oops [03:39] It helps that they do the refills about the same time they do their meds :) [03:43] * agamotto waves [03:43] Time to wander off... my eyes are starting to glaze [03:43] * MythbuntuGuest83 waves back === MythbuntuGuest90 is now known as led === led is now known as ledhead [05:38] question [05:38] I had a previous install of ubuntu running and audio was fine (gutsy gibbon) [05:38] now I have installed mythbuntu and have no audio any ideas? [05:40] will try back tomorrow when people are awake I guess [05:40] good night ;) [05:51] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyHeron/Alpha4 [05:52] please don't break my mythtv again :-P [05:53] blkorpheus, well be ready for breakage, I added trunk today :) [05:54] there are several areas that still need to build though and be ack'ed by archive admins [05:54] so it might be a few days until they show up [05:59] cool [05:59] my backend gives me a crash warning pretty regularly [05:59] I have since ignored most, but they still appear whether I click ignore or not [06:00] I assume, they are known bugs [06:00] well please start submitting them after you upgrade to the trunk stuff [06:00] we need to get those fixed if we can :) [06:01] sure, will do [06:01] i just got bit with bug fatigue [06:01] but I like that I can help make 8.04 solid [06:01] I'm luvin' it already [06:02] I know stuff will break, I don't mind, nothing critical like X [06:02] I've alpha'd since ubuntu began [06:02] alwasy impressed with how stable from the start [06:02] I need to do more, learn C or something to help you guys out, python something [06:03] well once you submit one of these bug reports, the biggest thing you can do is interpret it and determine the true cause [06:03] if you can, that saves upstream a heck of a lot of trouble [06:07] true [06:08] can't believe gnome weather applet is still broken? [06:08] it my favorite app [06:08] they have a fix for it, but not implemented yet? [06:08] will need a reboot I guess [06:11] what's wrong with it? [06:11] Works for Me (TM) [06:13] the xml for locations is missing [06:13] so perhaps because i had it working in gutsy [06:13] and it carried my location over? [06:13] ah yeah i can't change it [06:16] yup [06:16] mine worked in gutsy and in hardy [06:16] but there was a gnome-applet update, which killed it [06:34] can someone tell me where to change the default startup user ? [06:35] mcc can modify that [06:35] so can gdmsetup [06:35] or by hand in /etc/gdm/gdm-cdd.conf [06:38] superml , thats great thanks [07:49] anyone here? [07:50] ? [07:55] ? [09:39] superm1, nothing broke :) [09:40] hello [09:40] blkorpheus, not everything has made it through the NEW queue yet [09:40] hey superm1 ! [09:40] so i dont think it will be broke yet [09:40] :) [09:40] hey frink__ [09:40] how are you? [09:40] blkorpheus, see https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+queue [09:41] and you can see that they are still sitting at the top for a few NEW things [09:41] I am goood thank, you? [09:41] frink__, pretty good myself. i just finished relocating, and have about a week or so off here to relax before I start my job [09:42] superm1: Cool, where did you move to and.. What job! [09:42] frink__, so its basically a ton of Ubuntu stuff to catch up on this week :) [09:42] frink__, i'm in TX now [09:42] nice and warm here [09:48] TX. nice [09:48] bloody freezing here [09:48] windy [09:48] raining [09:48] dark [09:48] haha [09:48] wake up and think "why oh why...." [09:48] my family was telling me that it was around 11F today in the midwest, while i enjoyed 65F :) [09:49] And add to it, that I paid 104.5p per litre for petrol this morning [09:49] thats like $2 a liter [09:49] litre [09:49] whatever [09:52] :( [09:52] well i need to get to bed, its getting lat... er i guess early at this point, yeah bed time for sure [14:49] superm1: still there? [14:56] he's sleep [14:59] blkorpheus: in addition to him and laga, anyone else here involved in building the mythbuntu packages? === anubis is now known as blkorpeus [15:20] hi every whre [15:20] where [15:21] do you know if this operating system supports win tv hvr 3000 hardware [15:21] ?¿ [15:21] somebody?¿ [15:21] somebody knows it?¿ [15:22] ok by thanks for nothing [15:22] somebody here [15:23] there is a system test posibly i will get involved in the testing hardware compatibility... [15:23] nothing to do bye [15:27] fine, don't wait for an answer [15:35] wow [15:35] must of forgot his meds [15:35] he coulda had a much nicer tone too [15:35] saying thanks for nothing 2 minutes after asking [15:35] that helps [15:38] there should be a blurb on mythbuntu's irc page about etiquette [15:52] wireless AV transmitter on sale here: http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?product_id=58-12335&catalog_name=MCMProducts [16:03] <[nrx]> ello [16:21] rhpot1991_laptop, you mean like the blurb on this page? http://mythbuntu.org/support [16:24] hmmmm, has that always been there? [16:24] no, i just added it ;) [16:24] heh, ok good [16:24] you should put something about !ask in there [16:32] hi guys. i'm working on getting mythtv working and i'm hitting a few stumbling blocks. I'm following the guide on the website for installing and I'm at 'connect source to input'. When i hit the scan for channels ( i selected EIT) I'm getting nothing coming back. Can anyone help me please? :) === ircleuser is now known as [nrx] [16:42] sorry [nrx] I don't know anything about EIT, you can try #mythtv-users if you don't get any response here after a while === MythbuntuGuest44 is now known as [nrx] [16:54] <[nrx]> :( [17:32] so.. I did a complete fresh install of mythbuntu [17:32] and whenever I try to select "keys" the frontend crashes [17:32] anyone know where I can check logs or enable logging? [17:41] astyler, /var/log/mythtv [17:41] there are 2 [17:41] thanks [17:41] although you probably want mythfrontend.log [17:41] right. [17:49] Can anyone offer some advice about setting up an IR blaster? [17:55] check mailing list [17:56] there are lots of people who have done and documented it [17:56] forums as well [17:56] i've been digging around with no luck but i'll check the mailing list. Thanks. [18:02] In case anyone's feeling generous, I bought a double headed IR blaster from Liebtech and I'm trying to set it up from the Mythbuntu live cd. I can't find my remote model in the drop down list and I'm unsure which kernel modules and drivers I need. Searching for IR blasters turns up tons of stuff but searching for Liebtech turns up nothing. [18:04] oh [18:04] why setting it up from the livecd? [18:05] if its a temp frontend you might have trouble [18:05] but post-setup and post-updates, you might find better support for it [18:08] I suppose that as a linux noob my best (maybe only) tool is erase and reinstall. The whole point of my myth box is to learn more about linux but I'm still a lot more comfortable in a GUI than on the command line. My setup is a combined front and backend. [18:37] immensewok: are you actually installing from the live cd, or just trying to run from it? [18:37] installing [20:56] <[nrx]> i've installed mythbuntu. enabled the restrcited drivers for my ati radeon. The colour depth isn't there though - can anyone tell me how i increase it? [20:57] <[nrx]> actually, got a few issue. don't have a mixer control, either [21:03] [nrx], did you run alsamixer from the command line? [21:14] [nrx], just read the documents for your video card and drivers for linux [23:17] laga bist du da, ich habe jetzt die config
