[02:11] New bug: #195636 in wacom-tools "/dev/input/wacom device missing for Bamboo Fun" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195636 [05:25] hey bryce_ you around? [05:26] heya superm1 [05:26] good evenin. [05:26] did you by chance see that patch that I attached to a mesa bug? [05:26] hey I have a question for you (maybe a bit philosophical) [05:26] sure shoot [05:26] hmm, not sure (been looking at a lot of patches lately tho) [05:27] bug 189580 [05:27] Launchpad bug 189580 in mesa "mythfrontend.real crashed with SIGSEGV in glXMakeCurrentReadSGI()" [Undecided,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/189580 [05:27] well, with mythtv I'm wondering how you think things will work once analog is turned off next year, and cable companies are using DRM-laced digital feeds. [05:28] well analog is only turned off OTA [05:28] do you think there'll be a solution, or is that going to be more or less the end of mythtv as a television recording tool? [05:28] that's a big selling point to cable companies right now [05:28] that you can "use your old tv" [05:28] still [05:29] hmm, yet the analog channel sets that the two cable companies in my area provide are a small subset of the available channels [05:29] (essentially just what's provided OTA already) [05:29] wow it's that bad by you? [05:29] i get ~80 analog stations on my cable here [05:29] I mean, for the digital packages [05:30] well the cable company can approach the issue from two sides [05:30] for "regular" cable I still get ~80 channels too, however I think they'll be ending that [05:30] 1) either keep the analog stations around, and "transition" people over to their cable packages to use their old tvs - only to eventually plug that loop hole [05:31] 2) deter people because they need a digital tuner for cable, satellite, or OTA [05:31] i personally think most cable companies are going to approach it from (1) [05:32] the issue we've run into is that comcast has been gradually dropping channels from the analog service [05:32] quite irritating [05:33] well look at it from a lamen's consumer perspective [05:33] people are going to complain that they are missing all these channels [05:34] the more that go [05:34] and so cable companies either deal with that influx of complaints, or eventually open up the "basic" digital packages or keep analog around [05:35] hmm, that could be [05:35] so, in other words my own belief is that some way or another it will be sorted out - either keeping analog around longer, or cable co's being forced to de-drm there stations [05:36] and very worst comes to worst - there is always svid capture [05:36] and ir blaster/serial changer/firewire changer [05:36] of course it sort of presumes the absence of monopolies or collusion [05:37] * superm1 shrugs [05:37] if only our capitalist society didn't allow for such things [05:37] in the event of either of those though, you do need to remember how often the ability to sue gets abused [05:38] morning guys [05:38] morning tjaalton [05:38] heya tjaalton [05:39] at least you guys have widespread HD?-) [05:39] hmm, well I guess if worse comes to worst, someone will come up with some clever mythtv/bittorrent thingee that bypasses the networks entirely [05:40] we've got about 80 channels here as well ;) [05:40] we only have a handful of crappy paytv-channels [05:40] ..that are HD [05:40] err [05:40] i mean, 80 analog cable TV channels [05:40] bryce, you also have to remember too - once everything is all digital, hackers will pop up looking for a way to circumvent security measures [05:40] yup [05:40] its always a cat and mouse game [05:41] this is the last week that cable companies are allowed to broadcast analog [05:41] in Finland [05:41] we just got a junkmail from our cable company bragging about how you can still use analog with their stuff [05:41] tjaalton, so what is happening with digital stuff then, drm free? [05:41] superm1: remains to be seen, so far it is drm free [05:42] meaning that you are able to record stuff [05:42] well that's nice :) [05:42] superm1: what was the mesa patch you wanted me to look at? I can take a look at it in a little while tonight [05:43] bryce, bug 189580 [05:43] Launchpad bug 189580 in mesa "mythfrontend.real crashed with SIGSEGV in glXMakeCurrentReadSGI()" [Undecided,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/189580 [05:43] bryce: if it looks good, I can merge it with the new mesa from debian [05:43] tjaalton: ok [05:43] superm1: have you sent it upstream? [05:43] i'm not sure if upstream mesa has already absorbed such a thing, but it resolves issues for myself and a handful of other folks that have ran into the issue using free drivers [05:44] would be nice to get some feedback from upstream :) [05:44] tjaalton, not yet, i was hoping to find someone with a good relationship with x.org to forward it on up [05:45] i'm not the original author of it, just a messenger :) [05:45] ok :) [05:45] it's easy to forward it, but the author should then subscribe to the upstream bug [05:46] tjaalton, i'll be glad to link the appropriate bug trackers if you can send it for feedback [05:49] superm1: ok I've given a thumbs up on the bug. Patch looks pretty simple [05:49] bryce, great thanks. [05:49] not certain what side-effects might come of it though [05:49] i dont have core dev powers, so if you could sponsor it too, that'd be good :) [05:50] bryce, well given the description of it, i wouldn't expect anything harsh, but i dont know for sure [05:50] there's a new release candidate in debian that needs merging anyway [05:50] I'm still a hair away from having core dev powers myself, so will leave to tjaalton [05:50] :) [05:51] superm1: well, since it's opening a dynamic library, there's a fairly limitless number of things that could happen in theory; in practice I'm betting it'll be fine [05:51] ok, bbiab [05:51] bryce, wow, surprised you don't have the core-dev prowess already :) [05:56] ok, forwarded as freedesktop bug 14675 [05:56] Freedesktop bug 14675 in GLX "mythfrontend crashes in glXMakeCurrentReadSGI()" [Normal,New] http://bugzilla.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14675 [05:56] tjaalton, okay thanks, i'll get the person who wrote the patch subscribed [05:57] cool [06:19] superm1: you're not the first to say that [06:21] bryce, well then i'm sure you won't have trouble once you apply for it [09:30] New bug: #195707 in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 "Please upgrade Nvidia binary driver to 169.09" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195707 [10:12] superm1: seems that the mesa problem is already fixed in master, and if the backported commits work with 7.0, they could be added to the stable branch [11:25] New bug: #194249 in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (restricted) "atieventsd crashed with SIGSEGV in _XSend()" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/194249 [11:41] New bug: #187421 in limewire (universe) "c->xlib.lock failed (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/187421 [11:41] New bug: #187947 in azureus (universe) "azureus crashes (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/187947 [11:46] New bug: #194846 in netbeans (universe) "[hardy] Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/194846 [11:47] New bug: #188412 in ubuntu "jvm error (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/188412 [11:47] New bug: #189064 in j2se1.4-i586 (multiverse) "cannot view java applet on konqueror (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/189064 [11:47] New bug: #192761 in sun-java6 (multiverse) "Java JVM 6 Swing Crashes (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/192761 [11:47] New bug: #193061 in ubuntu "java: xcb_xlib.c:82: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed. (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/193061 [11:47] New bug: #193103 in sun-java6 (multiverse) "sun java6 firefox plugin crashing (dup-of: 87947)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/193103 [13:21] New bug: #195767 in xorg-server (main) "Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in free()" [Medium,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195767 [13:31] tjaalton: woo, thanks for the upload. the little fix I was testing got included upstream, right? [13:31] it already was [13:32] ah, I've had mine on hold for a little while ;) [13:32] I'll unhold it and upgrade :D [13:37] cool [13:37] sigh, need to add ServerLayout back to make synaptics work [13:46] tjaalton, yeah i got an email from the author. his fix went in in November :) [13:47] superm1: heh, ok. It's uploaded now, so please test when it's built [13:47] tjaalton, alright thanks [13:48] tjaalton: why do you need serverlayout? [13:48] jcristau: people need it for synaptics [13:48] I can't test it, so I trust them :) [13:49] otherwise the synaptics section is not used by the server, I guess [13:49] hrm [13:50] there's also a strange bug where enabling the SL section the keymap is different.. [17:43] tjaalton: It may help having it back to reduce displayconfig-gtk breakage (which I think we still need for bulletproof-x mode) [17:45] bryce: speaking about bulletproof-x, was there any discussion about a boot option to start in vesa mode 800x600 or similar? [17:56] I vaguely remember something like that [17:56] I don't recall if there were any decisions [17:59] bryce: ah, indeed [18:00] seb128: have you had a chance to look at the gnome-desktop and gnome-settings-daemon changes? I think they're ready to go up. [18:00] New bug: #195843 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (main) "INTEL_BATCH=1 should be enabled per default for Intel graphic hardware" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195843 [18:00] bryce: no, new GNOME weeks are crazy, lool looked at the patches I think [18:00] seb128: gnome-control-center is also building correctly and should be ready to go up soon (I just want to do additional testing first) [18:01] he's slightly concerned about the API additions or changes [18:01] and he said the patches are not really clean [18:06] New bug: #195846 in xserver-xorg-video-amd (main) "xserver-xorg-video-amd 2.7.7.6-1ubuntu2 fails at DDC module on Flat Panel" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195846 [18:06] seb128: I hope that either you two will be able to fix the issues, or provide me with detailed feedback so I can fix it. [18:07] bryce: right, will do, I've just been busy, but I'm almost done with this week updates and I'll look at those again [18:09] I'm away for dinner, be back later [18:09] seb128: having got things to this point, I would really like to just focus on gnome-control-center and it's remaining xrandr issues, and leave gnome-desktop and gnome-system-daemon to you guys. I've taken care of most of the work with them, so hopefully between the two of you the remaining integration work should be straightforward. [18:10] bryce: right, should be alright [18:10] seb128: great [18:10] I'll ping you back about those later today or tomorrow, I have to go now [18:10] ok [19:13] New bug: #29897 in xserver-xorg-input-mouse (main) "USB mouse not working after booting with mouse plugged in" [Medium,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/29897 [21:22] New bug: #195901 in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (restricted) "please sync nvidia-glx-new to new release 169.12" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195901 [21:41] New bug: #195912 in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (restricted) "linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-10-generic broken after latest updates [Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 5]" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195912 [23:15] New bug: #195953 in wacom-tools (main) "Tablet input resolution tied to display resolution" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195953 [23:59] New bug: #195952 in xserver-xorg-video-intel (universe) "gstreamer-properties default video out should be X Window System (No Xv)" [Undecided,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/195952
