xqHeya19:14
desertchi xq19:14
xqI just wanted to say hello :) I joined the team on LaunchPad and wanted to be more active in Ubuntu Marketing projects.19:15
desertcthat's awesome - what did you have in mind?19:15
xqI'm active in Ubuntu LoCo US and the team leader for Ubuntu US SC...and am in eMarketing/Marketing (and Web Design/Graphic Design as my Career) so would love to contribute to this effort.19:15
xqAnything that is needed.19:15
desertcIt doesn't seem to work like that19:15
xqThen I would love to learn more of how it works19:16
xqAnd be assigned tasks or items19:16
desertcIt's more like you find something you like to do19:16
xqAnd work with a designated team19:16
xqI would love to help promote Ubuntu LoCo US more19:16
desertcooohh... you give this team too much credit for being structures19:16
xqAnd find ways to promote the Ubuntu US teams individually19:16
desertc*structured19:16
xqPerhaps be a go-to for individuals teams who need help with marketing structures19:17
xqOr business card design or any design at all19:17
desertcin fact, our chat right now will be the most activity this channel will see all weekend19:17
xqOr just simple P.R. devices/advise or where/who to go to19:17
xqTo utilize local channels or segments19:17
xqI would love to help LoCo teams and then branch out19:17
xqThat was my main idea at first that I shot to Aaron in LoCo US19:17
xqHe told me to bring it to the floor here19:18
desertcIf you have this written up already, maybe you want to post to the mailing list, which is way more active19:18
xqAh, desert19:18
xqSure, will do19:18
xqI do have a plan of action written up that I sent to him19:18
desertcto arron?19:18
xqI will modify it into a more "formal" action plan and post it19:18
xqAaron Toponce?19:18
xqatoponce?19:19
xqSorry, real name19:19
xqHe is involved in the US LoCo Project19:19
desertcyes, I know19:19
xqI will post it19:19
xqI'm just full of marketing ideas and really think a lot of design/P.R. and eMarketing things (FREE) would help expose the teams and bring more "active" members to the forefront19:20
xqAnd help with membership drives etc.19:20
desertcwant to hear about a project that was being discussed here last week?19:20
xqIt would really benefit teams and the entire Ubuntu p roject alike19:20
xqSure, would love to19:20
desertcWith the next version of Ubuntu coming out soon, a couple people are talking about putting together a press release and working with LoCos to get it into papers, after modifying the text to include info about their club19:21
xqI think the Ubuntu Marketing Team might benefit from smaller subteams that would work on individual projects of their likings as well (with open membership of course of volunteers)...to simplify things. I know it's one big team at the moment in Launchpad. It gets hard to keep up with such large membership basis and having certain "direct report" designees for team leaders inside the main umbrella team sometimes simplifies communication.19:21
desertcYou seem particularly well suited to participate in this effort, since you are already involved with an active LoCo19:21
xqSounds exactly like one thing I was talking about19:21
xqAnd helping LoCos get that to their local newspapers and blogs19:22
xqAnd also writing up "how tos" and mini guides on how to find the correct contacts locally19:22
xqBecause locally is where to start19:22
desertcPlease understand xq that this is a low-activity chat room.  You're posting good ideas for discussion, but I'm going to be the only one reading them.19:22
xqAnd also the correct way to write such releases is key, and I am sure there are plenty of us that can help write releases or format such things if need be19:22
desertcThe mailing list is where you want to be posting this19:22
xqI understand19:22
xqGot it19:22
xqIt has more activity?19:22
desertcOh yeah19:23
xqDo we have a forum?19:23
desertcNope19:23
xqWe should get one ;)19:23
xqIf it's not on ubuntuforums.org -- I would offer to host a phpBB forum on my own dedicated server if need be19:23
xqI can offer web space and band width to the project as well19:24
xqI will get together and make a post this evening19:24
xqThanks desert19:24
desertcyou bet.19:24
xqI think this is a great project19:24
xqAnd it all starts with proper marketing :)19:24
DPicwhat do you guys think of this idea? http://slashdot.org/firehose.pl?op=view&id=55016621:32
johnc4510-laptopDPic: hey21:33
DPichi21:33
johnc4510-laptopdid you get the sample flier tyche sent you?21:33
DPicwas that in my email? 21:33
johnc4510-laptopshould have been21:34
DPico believe i was busy when i got it so i starred it for later. i'll check it out now21:34
desertcThere are companies out there that are trying to switch schools to linux.  You might work with them, in an internship or something.21:34
johnc4510-laptopnice21:34
DPici've googles around looking for some21:34
DPicgoogled*21:34
desertcYou didn't find any?21:34
johnc4510-laptopi like googles too21:34
johnc4510-laptopoh, that's giggles maybe21:35
johnc4510-laptoplol21:35
DPicdesertc: no, but i wasn't specifically looking for ones to do schools and it was a while ago so i don't remember the specific queries i used21:36
DPici'll look again21:36
DPicbut do you know any off the top of your head/21:36
desertchttp://www.google.com/search?q=Linux+consultants21:37
DPichah, i find it hard to believe i was stupid enough not to search that but i dunno haha thanks21:38
DPicdo you think loco teams could gather the resources and people to establish sub-teams to do this for free as part of a worldwide project from ubuntu-marketing?21:46
DPici don't think this is something that loco teams themselves could do because it's a never ending project (at least until the whole world is running linux)21:46
desertcwhat do you mean by 'do this' ?21:47
boredandblogginglocos should be handling it21:47
DPicconvert cities21:47
desertcyeah, I agree with boredandblogging, that's the purpose of locos21:47
boredandblogginglets help the locos do their thing21:48
boredandbloggingand get out of their way21:48
DPicno, because many loco's don't have the time or maybe even people to undertake something like that. i know the ma-team has been trying but we're having trouble just talking to my cities public school tech department21:48
DPiccity's*21:49
boredandblogginghow is ubuntu-marketing supposed to help with that?21:49
DPicmy proposal was for a project/initiative (not mandatory) for loco teams to start sub-teams that would be very organized for the specific purpose of working with cities to convert all of their computers to linux, and train them to use them. 21:51
boredandbloggingok21:52
desertcthey would walk in and convert all the school computers to linux?21:54
desertcIn the cover of darkness and with an airtight alibi, presumably...21:55
johnc4510-laptopDPic: did you get a chance to look at that flier yet  hee hee   i know your busy :)22:26
johnc4510-laptopi think you'll like it22:26
DPici do but i'm making a few edits22:27
DPicthen i'll send it back with explanations for each one22:27
johnc4510-laptopkk22:28
johnc4510-laptopI thought we also need to leave a place where the loco's could advertise22:28
johnc4510-laptopyou know22:28
johnc4510-laptoplink to wiki22:29
johnc4510-laptopchannel22:29
johnc4510-laptopproviding support22:29
johnc4510-laptopthat kind of thing22:29
DPicwell we'll offer the .odt file which they can use to do that22:36
johnc4510-laptopsure, i just thought we should leave space for that and suggest what they might include22:36
johnc4510-laptopif we don't suggest it, some won't think of it maybe22:37
DPicah i see. instead of creating a finalized product, make it a template for loco's to use? 22:37
johnc4510-laptopyes22:38
DPicand all they have to do is fill in their info (and translate it if they speak a different language)22:38
johnc4510-laptoptemplate of the release to be used as is   they just add info about their loco22:38
johnc4510-laptopor translate22:38
johnc4510-laptopsort of a fill in the blank type of thing22:38
DPicyeah22:39
johnc4510-laptopthat way it's consistant, but has info from the loco that's distributing it22:39
johnc4510-laptop:)22:39
johnc4510-laptopwe not only advertise the release, we advertise the loco and it's support 22:40
