ryanakcayuriy_: I have the same problem!00:29
ryanakcaI want to skim to die, but removing / uninstalling it makes KDE4 hang when you log in.00:30
ryanakcayuriy_: it also insists on starting up moments after I go killall -9 `ps aux | grep scim | grep -v grep | awk '{ print $11 }'`00:31
yuriy_ryanakca: nareshov's suggestion worked for me. install skim and im-switch, remove scim.  I don't think i actually did anything else, and i don't have skim running00:45
=== yuriy_ is now known as yuriy
nareshovboth of you aren't logged into English desktops, that's why scim starts up by default00:50
yuriynareshov: well, yeah, i guess it's part of my other problem. something i did seems to have unset the locale00:51
yuriyi don't know how to set it manually and the gui tools don't seem to do it00:51

nosrednaekimwell, I agree that kde4 and gtk look far better than kde4 and kde303:10
nixternal(Konsole crashes dbus for some reason (I'm on amd64))03:10
nixternalI think that was part of my freeze issue03:10
nosrednaekimthat we should replace things with the gtk programs...no.03:10
nixternalit only occurred I figured out when Konsole or Yakuake was open03:11
yuriyhe has a few bugs like that in there03:11
nosrednaekimnixternal» yeah, some other guy was complaing about that... nice to know what it is03:11
yuriyit is a nice screenshot though03:11
yuriywe should get that gtk engine in by default03:12
nosrednaekimyeah....i'm grabbing that thing immediately :)03:12
nixternalactually, we just need the qt4 theme, we don't even need to use that gtk-qt4 utility03:14
nixternaland it only works on some gtk apps, not all03:14
nixternalat least I couldn't get it work on gimp03:14
nixternalI marked the bug as Triaged/Wishlist btw03:15
nixternaland then asked if he got the theme working with gimp :)03:15
nixternalalso note that the CD images aren't finished yet and still have some tweaking to go I believe03:15
nosrednaekimheh..... I downloaded that theme... any idea where it should be un-tarred to?03:16

yuriyand what the program is for03:18
nosrednaekimwhich thing?03:19
yuriythe qt4-gtk theme03:19
nosrednaekimoh.. the actual program? I couldn't figure it out either03:20
nixternalnosrednaekim: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UbuntuBugControl03:20
yuriynosrednaekim: i think it's supposed to change the gtk theme for you, but it doesn't seem to work03:20
nixternalit doesn't work, that is why you can't figure it out...I mean it does, but you never know because it is so poorly written03:20
nosrednaekimnixternal» how do you set the gtk theme maually then?03:21
nixternalyuriy: there is a directory to install the qt4 theme to03:21
nixternalyou need to install the qt4 theme that is on kde-look first and then run the gtk-qt4 thing03:22
nixternalyou do need it actually I think..I can't remember if I got the theme to work by setting up the gtk stuff in systemsettings-kde303:22
* nixternal goes for a cookie :)03:23
yuriyok if i understand correctly, the program generates a gtk theme from your kde theme/color scheme03:24
yuriyis that what gtk-engine-qt does too?03:25
nosrednaekimthanks nixternal, reading that now..... I am no where nearly as involved with bugs as I should be.03:26

yuriyHobbsee: i was referring to the kde3 one, but it looks like somebody made something similar for kde4 which we are discussing: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=74689&forumpage=203:34
* Hobbsee drools03:34
Hobbseethat's one of my problems against switching back to kde403:34

Hobbseei don't mind them.  wiht the right theme, they look like kde used to.03:36
nixternalyuriy: ya, I only noticed it work for firefox, it didn't work with gimp either03:37

steveireHi, I was wondering about the edits to the kde4/kubuntu page regarding lib{un}gif. Why is it the kubuntu users should use libgif? Is it something everyone should use?18:42
hungernixternal: Does not work for me:-/ No plasma is showing up.18:42
steveireThe page is inconsistent now.18:42
steveirecan someone confirm a bug for me? It's a toolbar bug in kolourpaint and kjots(though not committed yet). Launch kolourpaint and enable the text toolbar. Close and open the app a few times and watch the text toolbar move left, taking space from the main toolbar. This doesn't happen when the main toolbar is on the right of the text toolbar to begin with.18:42
steveireThat's kde4 by the way. It happens in trunk, not sure about branch.18:43
nixternalsteveire: we migrated away from libungif4 to libgif a month or so back18:43
steveireIs 'we' kde or kubuntu?18:43
nixternalkubuntu18:43
nixternalI don't know if Debian changed or not18:43
* nixternal looks in debian svn18:44
hungersteveire: libungif was necessary since libgif had patent issues. THey provide the same API, with libungif removing the patented stuff.18:44
steveireI think the cmake response asks for libungif. When you say migrated do you mean libungif is not in hardy?18:44
hungersteveire: The patent is no longer relevant, so the libgif can get used now.18:44
nixternalactually, every instance of libungif on that wiki page should be changed to libgif, as Debian converted as well18:45
hungersteveire: They are drop-in replacements of each other. Use whatever you prefer.18:45
steveireOK, I'll fix the page a bit. nixternal, yeah, that's what I mean18:45

tomanixternal: i trust you guys are going to fix it for the 4.1 packages, but i'm worried about users that will try svn21:11

nixternaljjesse: ahh, I noticed the same thing with the Live CD, and after installation it was fine21:32
jjessenixternal: hopefully that's the case21:32
jjessei'm working w/ a bunch of laptops this week, all dell latitude d830s :)21:32
nixternalahh, you just using the LiveCD to get your Kubuntu love in? )21:33
jjessenixternal: no i'm looking to reload my main laptop to hardy kde4 and i have all of work's training laptops that are the same model to mine21:33
nixternalas long as you don't have to use the fglrx drivers, all is well :)21:33
nosrednaekimI'm gonna load hardy and force those drivers to work....21:34
fdovingi guess the intel drivers in hardy sux too, my X freezes on every logout, i've tried kdm, gdm, and plain startx. freezes on logout. hardy does not look promising so far, in my eyes that is.21:36
nixternalfdoving: I have the 945 chipset and the Intel drivers have been a charm..I have heard of some issues with Intel's newer chipsets21:37
ScottKHmmm.  I've got Gutsy on a Dell D430 laptop and that installed flawlessly.21:37
nixternalScottK: we are talking Hardy, LTS, standing for LoTS of bugs21:38
fdovingnixternal: i hve the 954 too, but still freezes on every logout with hardy. gusty works fine of course.21:38
fdoving945 that is.21:38
nixternalhrmm, I just had that issue with the fglrx drivers and I removed them on my desktop and went back to the free drivers, which work great with trunk/21:38
ScottKHmmm.   I'm wondering how Lenny's going ...21:39
nosrednaekimfdoving» do you have kdm to restart X on logout? that fixes that usually21:39
fdovingnosrednaekim: i haven't changed any kdm config at all. except removed the userlist.21:39
fdovingnosrednaekim: but it happens with gdm too, and plain startx.21:39
nixternalScottK: not to shabby, I have been using my Lenny/testing on my debian box and it has been great21:40
nosrednaekimoh... plain startx?then thats probably not it.21:40
ScottKnixternal: If they decide to stick with 3.5.x for Lenny, I'm seriously thinking about switching.21:40
fdovingyeah, i have just stopped logging out for now. rebooting instead.21:40
ScottKOTOH, KDE 4.1 may totally stun me.21:40
nixternalScottK: I have to say the current trunk build of KDE 4 is quite nice21:41
nixternalfunctionality is really catching up21:41
ScottKHows kdepim?21:41
nixternalI have a nice small plasma panel, customized plasma theme21:41
nixternalkdepim is actually working which suprised me21:41
nixternalbut it isn't complete yet21:41
ScottKRight.21:41
nixternal4.1 will have a Qt4/KDE4 version of the kdepim in 3.5.9 I think...though toma or fdoving would know better since they are kdepim folks21:42
nixternaland if you use IMAP, Mailody is the way to go anyways :)21:42
ScottKThe whole idea of shoving all my data into a mysql database is very scary (thinking 4.2).21:42
tomawe chatted yesterday already21:43
* ScottK doesn't.21:43
ScottKYes.21:43
ScottKtoma promises me it'll be wonderful.21:43
tomaeven better21:43
fdovingcurrently i'd keep a backup of anything pushed into akonadi :)21:43
nixternalhehe21:43
jjessehrm what did i need out of lshw ?21:44
nixternalI wish kmail/kontact had the akonadi stuff working so I could check it out with my awesome POP3 love! :)21:44
jjesseiwconfig shows "no wireless extension"21:44
fdovingnixternal: go write a pop3-resource for akonadi. then you can atleast read them with mailody .)21:45
nixternalno thank you :)21:45
nixternalI have been following the code commits and already my eyes are crossed21:45
jjesseok this is frustrating, seems like there is a ton that i can't do in system settings kde4 and there is no system settings kde3 that allows me change21:48
jjessesystem settings problem on kde4/hardy alpha under "connection problems"  getting "orphaned control modules"21:49
nixternalya, system settings is still a mess21:53
jjesseso is system settings/kde3 going to be included w/ system settings/kde4?21:53
nixternalI couldn't tell you..I feel out of the loop on that21:56
nixternals/feel/fell21:57
jjesseawesome o'hare is closed today22:12
nosrednaekimwhy?22:12
jjessewind conditions22:13
jjesseno one is currently allowed to fly in or out22:13
nosrednaekimwow...must be really windy!22:13
jjessei guess, but they do call it the "windy city"22:14
nosrednaekimBRB... gotta get out of this stone-age dapper22:18
Riddelltoma: hi22:29
nosrednaekimRiddell» did you include the latest fixes I had for desktop-effects-kde? it was seriously broken in the last relase (my fault)22:31
Riddellnosrednaekim: nope22:32
Riddellbut I can put it on my todo, or you can poke other people into updating the package22:32
nosrednaekimalright, thanks.22:33
tomahi Riddell, i already talked to nixternal about https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.0/+bug/197476/22:34
ubotuLaunchpad bug 197476 in mysql-dfsg-5.0 "akonadi  does not work with the apparmor rules introduced for /usr/sbin/mysqld on hardy." [Undecided,New]22:34
Riddelltoma: it may help to poke keescook about that22:36
tomaok22:37
nixternalRiddell: when can we upload 4.0.2 stuff?22:40
nixternaltomorow?22:40
Riddellnixternal: what do you have?22:40
nixternalextragear except for the new libkscan22:40
Riddelltomorrow evening I guess, but I havn't started on the main packages yet22:41
nixternalooh, ya good point, I need 4:4.0.2 first :)22:41
Riddellvolunteers welcome :)22:41
nixternalif anyone doesn't want to hop on I will see if I can get kdelibs, kdepimlibs, and kdebase at least started22:42
Riddellnixternal: you have about 10 hours before I'll start, if you do start any make sure to tell me on channel so we don't duplicate and make any .debs available somewhere22:44
nixternalRiddell: 10 hours, hrmm....In about 4 hours I would be able to start on them and work for a couple of hours, so if I do any, I will link to you the files on my site so we don't duplicate22:49
nixternalI need a higher resolution than 1280x800...it just doesn't cut it for me anymore22:59
nixternalon my laptop that is22:59
nixternal1440x900 on the desktop is nice, but it isn't cutting it anymore either23:00
yuriynixternal: i made sure to get 1400x1050 when buying a laptop, deciding there's no way i'm going to go *down* from 1280x1024. expensive though23:01
nixternalya, my next lappy will be insane like that23:01
nixternalwhat I do to cheat, or what I did with KDE 3, was shrink everything down, the fonts and all23:02
nixternaland then squished the bars at the top of windows down as well23:02
nixternalmade it look like a bigger display that way23:02
nixternalnow that would be a nice feature...have KDE fake a higher resolution23:02
nixternalor any DE for that matter23:02
tomanixternal: isnt that what zoom out does in plasma23:11
nixternalheh, zoom takes it to a little 640x480 box in the top left hand corner for me23:14
nosrednaekim:)23:15
tomanixternal: aha, i couldn't check, i removed the box ;-)23:15
nixternal17" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA (1920x1200) display with TrueLife™23:16
nixternalnow we are talking23:16
nixternal1920x1200 on a laptop, that is insane23:16
nosrednaekim0.o23:16
nosrednaekimis that HP dv9000?23:16
nixternalthat is a Dell23:17
nixternalonly $799 USD too23:17
nosrednaekimnot bad...23:17
nosrednaekimI hate big laptops though.23:17
yuriynixternal: i don't think you want to carry that thing around though23:17
nixternalI hate the fact that when I bought my laptop not even 2 years ago, it was a deal, but was only $300 cheaper than that dell with half the specs23:17
nixternalyuriy: I will hire someone to carry it around for me :p23:18
nixternalthey also have a 20.1" Laptop23:18
nixternalnow that is a beast23:18
yuriywith the money you save over a lighter one?23:18
nixternalI would have to have a backpack for my backpack23:18
nixternalI want super high resolution and screaming speed23:18
nosrednaekimget a desktop23:19
nixternallike my desktop, I can do 'make -j5' and watch it scream in a KDE 4 build23:19
yuriydesktop + eeepc + ssh23:19
nixternalnosrednaekim: I have more desktops than I really need23:19
nosrednaekimisn't that "listen to it scream"?23:19
nixternalthe build goes so fast, Konsole/Yakuake looks like a blur :)23:19
yuriyhmm anybody else with an audigy on kde4?23:25
yuriyi occasionally get popups about phonon falling back to another device, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the sound23:25
jjessedog fell asleep on my foot.... looks like i won't be moving for awhile23:44
nosrednaekim^_^23:44
NightroseRiddell: http://amarok.kde.org/d/en/index.php?q=gallery&g2_itemId=8976 ;-)23:48
Nightrosesome of Myriams pics23:48
