Nikaswhat can i do to make the channel change faster? ~10 sec is annoying ;)00:09
HeManwill 8.04 be 0.21 based?00:11
abstrakHi all, anybody know the pctv 310i tv tuner with "remote controller" ? I cannot get any key pressed event !00:15
Arcticpenguin380is it better to use reiserfs than ext3?00:29
DJDarkstarhello?01:32
pwnguinwas 8.04 planning on / tracking the mythTV .21 release?01:36
pwnguinhardy: 0.21.0~fixes16338-0ubuntu3: all01:42
pwnguinguess so01:42
th1hi, I have Kubuntu 7.10 and I had a setup with my media pc hooked up to my amp with the coax output of my CM8738 soundcard, everything was working with AC3 and DTS passthrough, now after I did aptitude upgrade last week, it doesn't work except for DTS tracks at all anymore, either it's silent or its downsampled to Dolby Digital on the coax output, any ideas to fix it back to where it was?02:11
th1the DTS is the only thing that still works02:13
KillerKiwi2005hello anyone know of a gui for configuring a remote / lirc.conf02:49
th1KillerKiwi2005, unfortunately not you have to do it by hand :(02:56
KillerKiwi2005that sucks..... i want repeat for volume up / down and fast froward rewind... i was hoping it wasn't going to be a hit and miss trial02:57
th1KillerKiwi2005,if the remote is already working you should have a lirc.conf that you can edit to accomplish that02:57
th1but yeah, it sucks a bit that it's not gui'ed02:57
KillerKiwi2005yeah it works standard msc usb02:58
th1you're lucky, I had to compile 3-4 different kernels before I got my remote to work (it's from a hauppauge tv card)02:58
KillerKiwi2005yeah the usb seems to be the best bet02:58
KillerKiwi2005I've never had to touch a kernel for a haupauge htough.... just firmware02:59
th1for the remote I needed a lirc module that wouldn't build with the standard kernel02:59
th1I'm not sure if I was just unlucky03:00
th1it's one of the less common dvb cards so maybe that's why03:01
th1anyway, now I have a dual tuner DVB card in my server so I don't need the tuner functionality in my frontend PC, only use it for the remote. I would like a better interface but I don't really fancy buying anything new when I already have 3 remote control units for hauppauge :)03:02
KillerKiwi20052 true... i have 3 of them lying around03:04
KillerKiwi2005the blaster for the usb works well which is an added bonus03:04
th1do your hauppauge remotes work with tat?03:04
th1s/tat/that/03:05
KillerKiwi2005?03:05
th1does the hauppauge remote work with the usb blaster/receiver?03:05
KillerKiwi2005yes03:06
th1ah03:06
th1maybe I should get one then03:06
th1mine have the PCI cards with the phono socket receiver03:06
KillerKiwi2005Got a haupauge 150 wocked up to a sky box... it  uses the blaster to change the channel03:06
Egghead3i just updated, now none of the modules work, any ideas how or where to start to fix it?03:06
th1Egghead3, join the club ;)03:06
Egghead3ahh so common error with new updates?03:07
KillerKiwi2005mythtv rule #1... if it works DO NOT UPGRADE lol03:07
th1I think you just need to update a couple of times and then restart both frontend and backend03:07
th1worked for me except for my weird audio problem, which they say is not mythtv but something else03:07
Egghead3cool, i didnt try restarting frontends :)03:08
Egghead3and yea, i have to start obaying rule #103:08
rhpot1991universal rule #1 if its working, mess around with things till you break it, especially at 2am03:09
* KillerKiwi2005 ...wondars how hard a small pygtk would be for lircrc.conf03:09
Egghead3th1, i get a wierd audio error in mythfrontend log somthing about cant find audio, skipping....03:09
KillerKiwi2005rhpot1991: then the misses gets mad cause the box broke03:09
Egghead3rhpot, oh then i have been doing rule #1 right, lmao03:09
KillerKiwi2005the box she didnt think we needed in the first place ;)03:09
rhpot1991I've had a few examples where my wife's soap opera hasn't recorded the next day cause I broke something the night before03:09
rhpot1991I like to break my router in the wii hours of the morning03:10
KillerKiwi2005like locking out all your macs instead of allowing them :)03:10
KillerKiwi2005stupid toggle button03:10
rhpot1991well I run openwrt, so it normally involves making the router completely unusable03:10
th1Egghead3, it's nothing like my problem I think03:10
KillerKiwi2005i dont like to mess with the firmware... i have good fear of a bricked router03:14
rhpot1991well it depends how much of a flash friendly router you have03:15
rhpot1991I also specifically bought both of these for this purpose so newegg would have been taking them back if I screwed up03:17
KillerKiwi2005linksys WRT54G03:18
rhpot1991depending on the version it could run other firmwares03:18
rhpot1991I bought some asus wl500gP's03:18
rhpot1991love them03:18
KillerKiwi2005theres a bug in its dyndnd.... it never refreshs properly really anoying03:19
rhpot1991strange, works fine for me03:19
rhpot1991dyndns you mean right?03:19
KillerKiwi2005yes03:19
KillerKiwi2005its the router its self... it works if i can in and reset it but it drops after a while03:20
KillerKiwi2005hmmm  mythbuntu-lircrc-generator can set the delay / repeat03:22
KillerKiwi2005it really needs a ui is all03:23
superm1KillerKiwi2005, we're looking for someone with some time to author one if you'd like to take that up :)03:24
KillerKiwi2005.... might do it ..... it would be a nice to have... lirc requires vodo magic at the moment...03:24
Egghead3th1, rebooted frontend, and updated backend again, worked great, thanks03:26
th1np :)03:27
Egghead3is the internal player a program i can run from desktop or command line?04:27
superm1mythtv $FILE04:27
superm1should do it04:27
Egghead3cool thanks :)04:28

HeManHi! Is therer any checks that trunk is built correctly?07:07
HeManmeaning, is the trunk repository checked after building it?07:08
camelreefHeMan, I'm not involved with that at all, and can;t provide an answer, but what do you mean by "checked"?07:15
camelreefand from what I have read, trunk at this time only has the .21 that got released07:20
camelreefand is not moving much07:20
camelreefuntil 0.21 gets into the official backports, then -trunk will resume tracking the trunk stuff07:26
camelreefso I dare hope that today -trunk works quite nicely07:26
superm1well i sure hope it works right07:34
superm1i've got no way to test it...07:34
superm1no gutsy boxes here.07:34
rhpot1991I haven't noticed anything wrong with my trunk builds, got a specific problem?07:37
superm1HeMan, is something wrong with them?07:37
camelreefsuperm1, thanks for the answer on the mythtv users list07:41
camelreef<- Nico07:41
superm1oh hi :)07:42
camelreefhello :)07:42
camelreefI should just as well as here too07:42
camelreefare there changes regarding utf8 with 0.21 ?07:42
superm1nothing that we have directly changed in the packaging07:43
superm1i can't speak for upstream though07:43
camelreefmy tables are all using latin1_swedish for whatever reason, and that's medding my French stuff07:43
camelreefmessing07:43
camelreefok07:43
camelreefI'll ask on list on a separate thread07:43
HeMansuperm1: it says it's the wrong version on libmyth07:43
HeMani just tried to purge libmyth and installing it again to see if that solves the problem07:44
camelreefI've seen a wiki page about utf8, but I'd rather not play with the DB manually if I can avoid it07:44
superm1HeMan, can you elaborate?07:45
superm1on a plugin?07:45
superm1or on which?07:45
superm1or on package installation?07:45
HeManon all plugins07:46
superm1can you pastebin dpkg -l | grep myth?07:46
HeManbut it could be that i get some packages from gutsy-backports07:46
HeManis there any way to see from which repository i get a package?07:47
superm1HeMan, if you show me that dpkg -l output07:47
superm1i can telll you where they are coming from07:47
superm1but also07:47
superm1you can look at that via apt-cache policy PACKAGE07:47
HeMansuperm1: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5462/07:49
superm1HeMan, you have old plugins packages installed07:49
superm1update your apt lists again07:50
HeManjust did07:50
superm1what mirror are you on?07:50
HeManuk07:50
superm1yeah uk is slower at updating07:50
superm1it only syncs from the builder two times a day or so07:51
superm1us updates every 4 hours07:51
superm1you can either switch to US, wait it out, or grab the binaries here for now https://edge.launchpad.net/~mythbuntu-trunk/+archive07:51
HeMani'll try the us repo07:51
* superm1 pings Daviey 07:52
HeManit's somewhat of a chrisis here, my son want's to see his movie...07:52
superm1Daviey, can you check UK repo and see if maybe you can manually sync it?07:52
superm1HeMan, just grab the mythvideo deb then if you need07:52
superm1its on that URL i gave you07:52
HeManalready switched to the us mirror and updated07:53
HeMani'll switch back now07:54
HeManwe really love the bookmark-in-a-movie feature!07:55
superm1ooh i didn't even know that was in07:56
superm1nice07:56
HeMannow we don't need to see the same part of the movie everyday...07:56
HeManbtw, will the "regular" weekly builds switch to 0.21?07:57
HeManand will 8.04 be 0.21-based?07:57
superm18.04 has 0.21 already07:58
superm1the regular weekly builds will be 0.21-fixes when hardy opens07:58
superm1HeMan, see this url http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/321398#32139807:59

superm1it's on my todo list at least08:01
superm1but not yet :)08:01
HeMani'm having a hard time to _not_ upgrade to hardy before it's released...08:03
superm1yeah i'm glad all my machines are hardy now08:04
superm1especially since there is still time to fix bugs that i catch08:04
* camelreef is ready to hit the PPA and not wait for the backport, backups done....08:04

camelreefhuh ?08:21

camelreefsuperm1, ah, one issue08:34

superm1and it will ask you for it08:35
superm1sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database08:35

superm1that's a rather odd errror.08:36
superm1can you please file a bug with that output?08:36
superm1er all of your terminal output08:37
superm1leading up to that rather08:37
camelreefK08:37
camelreefbug url ?08:37
superm1bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu08:37
superm1that will do08:37
superm1camelreef, for now, remove mythweather, and reinstall it after the rest of the upgrade finishes08:38
DiggThissuperm1: do u have a recommendation?08:38
camelreefsuperm1, OK08:38
superm1DiggThis, other than checking SQL tables for inconsistencies, no not really08:38
DiggThisi dont even have sql turned on though08:38
superm1DiggThis, you still have it runnign locally08:39
superm1DiggThis, run an optimize/repair command on the tables08:39
superm1there is support in MCC to do it08:39
superm1or phpmyadmin08:39
superm1or newer versions of mythweb08:40
DiggThisalreadyt done and not working. is there any way i can uninstall the latest updates?08:40
superm1DiggThis, i highly doubt it's caused by the latest updates - other people would have been complaining about similar problems08:40
superm1DiggThis, and did you look at mythbackend's logs in verbose?08:41
superm1turning them more verbose can show you why the scheduler is having troubles08:41
superm1DiggThis, to do verbose mode edit /etc/default/mythtv-backend08:41
DiggThisover my head sorry superm1 just seems weird maybe xfs is the problem, u think? what do u run for your video partition?08:42
superm1xfs.08:42
superm1DiggThis, well do this08:42
DiggThisonly happened today which is weird was working fine till then and now my tuner does not even work for live tv08:42
superm1edit that file08:42
superm1dude that means broken tables08:43
superm1the mcc optimizer must not have been able to fix them08:43
superm1all of these signs point to that08:43
superm1install phpmyadmin08:43
superm1and do it from there08:43
camelreef!bug 20008408:43
DiggThisk then thx please explain not sure how to on windows with other pc08:43
superm1thanks camelreef.  i'll see if i can't get that sorted out before the official backport goes through...08:44
superm1DiggThis, apt-get install phpmyadmin08:44
superm1then visit http://IPADDRESS/phpmyadmin08:44
superm1where IPADDRESS is your address08:44
DiggThisdo u think it could have been defrag that did it?08:45
superm1no i dont08:45
superm1bad shutdown08:45
superm1or power outage08:45
superm1or something like that maybe08:45
superm1but usually a defrag doesn't cause problems08:45
DiggThisyes thats it!!! power went out yesterday...08:46
superm1okay there you go.08:46
superm1so once you get phpmyadmin installed, you'll be able to 'repair' all of your tables08:46
superm1and reboot08:46
superm1and things should be better08:46
DiggThisk ill install it now and by the way do u think i should leave on enable daily mythtv repair?08:46
superm1well it clearly isn't working, so i dont think so08:47
camelreefsuperm1, funny, mythweather was not installed at all in fact, a plain install just worked08:47
DiggThiswhat do u use as ur root file system?08:47
superm1ext308:47

lagai'm not sure if it's enabled there... it'll most likely be automatically disabled with the next upload because the xvmc-opengl renderer is highly experimental, unstable and whatnot15:33

PatrikHhmm, i can´t install 0.21 from mythbuntu auto-builds on normal ubuntu. Missing the following: ttf-liberation. Can´t seem to fins a rep that has it.15:34

camelreefhttp://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5474/15:35
camelreeflaga, OK, then15:35
lagacamelreef: please disable xvmc-opengl in your playback profile and check if it persists15:35
lagaas you can see in the logs, xvmc-opengl is not available15:36
lagais it selectable?!15:36
camelreeflaga, using the "high quality" profile works15:36
lagacool15:36
camelreefit is selectable15:36
camelreefI was just trying oprion that could give me xvmc and color OSD ;o)15:37
camelreefand no OSD flicker15:37
lagayadif and greedyh, maybe their 2x variants? although they use lots of CPU15:37
lagaah15:37
lagano, you can't use them with XvMC, sorry15:38
camelreefnevermind15:38
camelreefI'm trying out the new version, it's cool to have it on day 1 of the release15:38
camelreefI've already opened a bug on the upgrade15:38
lagacool15:38
lagait'll be fixed soon i hope :)15:38
camelreefhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/20008415:39
camelreefthe UI apparently freezes once in a while too15:39
camelreefI'm trying to find consistency about this one, and some logs before opening a bug15:39
lagacamelreef: wow, xvmc-opengl is indeed selectable. how annoying. maybe you can raise a bug for that, too?15:39
camelreefwill do15:39
* laga loves 0.21 so far. :)15:42

lagayes15:43
lagaand some big things like multirec :)15:43
camelreefoh, and there is a thing with mythweather15:43
camelreefwhen configuring the plugin, it says I should hit "menu" to move on and save15:43
lagayes, mythweather was redesigned.. i tried it a few months ago and it was.. less than stellar15:43
camelreefmenu is not working there15:43
camelreefwhen it is everywhere else15:44
lagacamelreef: report it! we need as many reports as we can get :)15:44
camelreefI tried using the remote and using the keyboard15:44
PatrikHJust whant to report that moving from svn trunk to mythbuntu trunk went well so far.15:45
lagaPatrikH: cool15:45

camelreefhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/20021715:49
nettow0822_i was looking at the gossamer threads....and superm1 was talking about using the backports15:49
camelreeflaga, 4 bugs from me in the pipeline15:49
PatrikHthey also provide ttf-liberation that is needed by mythtv15:49
camelreefwell, if you do not care about kittens, maybe you will care about the stability and upgradability of your system, then15:51

lagadoes automatix contain mythtv?16:35

nettow0822_oh well....thats was what I was asking earlier.....where to get .2116:44
hitme0.21 should come from the update server16:44
PatrikHI did the following, added mythbuntu auto-builds trunk http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds and then installed it16:45

camelreef-afksonium, HDMI is more or less DVI, they should work16:57
lagaand the whole "why mythtv sucks" thing on the ML were people kept picking on the UI (among other things)16:58

frank23it's not mythtv and that randomly generated password right?19:01
frank23http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5489/19:02
superm1frank23, well maybe the easiest way to resolve it then is to set a root password for the mysql root user19:03
superm1i think you hit a rather rare bug19:03
superm1where if you try to enter a password "once" then it stores that password and tries it every time19:03
frank23well it's the same issue as the other one  here earlier19:04
frank23superm1: how do I set a root password?19:04
frank23oh... I did try my user (frank) password the first time I did sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database19:05

superm1frank23, well mythtv-database19:13
frank23superm1: oh19:13
superm1it is an underlying problem with the implementation of the postinst scripts19:13
superm1that if you go outside the standard procedure and enter the wrong things19:13
superm1stuff goes wacky.19:13
camelreefsuperm1, do you deal with the lcdproc packaging ?19:14
frank23superm1: Is that mythbuntu specific?19:14
superm1camelreef, i haven't dealt with it in the past19:14
superm1it is a motu package though so i could touch it if you have a patch or something though19:14

camelreefI have lcdproc from Feisty atm, held19:16
camelreefI'd rather not carry that to Hardy if possible19:16
superm1jduggan, oh i know why it isn't on gutsy.19:17

superm1its because of MCC.19:17

camelreefif you are on Ubuntu, yes, there is that great package management system and policies19:19
camelreefwhy do you want hardy ?19:19
superm1camelreef, don't discourage people..... :P  we need people to keep submitting bugs they find in hardy19:20
superm1jduggan, yeah the standard Ubuntu update procedures work19:20
superm1jduggan, sudo update-manager -d19:20
camelreefhttp://www.ubuntu.com/testing19:20
superm1yeah19:20
jduggani want the screen setup wizard - my mythbuntu is a combined back/frontend and i cant get the overscan reduced for the mythfrontend - i noticed on my other frontend debian/sid running svn it has this new wizard which looks useful19:21
camelreeflet atural selection do its work, huh ? (no insult intended)19:21
superm1jduggan, well here's the easiest way to get the wizard without upgrading...19:21
jduggansuperm1: ok19:22
superm1jduggan, copy /usr/share/mythtv/main_settings.xml.diverted to /usr/share/mythtv/main_settings.xml19:22
superm1and you will have the wizard19:22
camelreefsuperm1, why do I have that wizard on one of my machine?19:22
camelreef(gutsy with PPA)19:23
camelreefplain FE19:23

frank23superm1: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythbuntu-control-centre/+bug/20031720:06
superm1thanks20:06
camelreefmario, you rock20:10
camelreefthanks for the lcdproc bug20:12
pancho can one watch tv over the internet without the tuner card?20:12
superm1camelreef, hopefully that works for you.20:14
camelreefsuperm1, I'll try the new lcdproc package when it comes tomorrow, I hope that it does not have too many weird dependencies and that I can install a plain binary, otherwise I'll backport it20:14
superm1if you've got any other bugs with patches available that you want to see in hardy20:14
superm1let me know20:14
camelreefI will, trust me20:15
superm1the sooner the better too.  freezes come up really really quick, so it will be a mad rush soon20:15
frank23Last big problem I'm having is that none of the gui tools can setup dual displays. The one that worked best for me in gutsy was nvidia-settings. But x.org changed and none of them seem to work.20:20
superm1frank23, nvidia-settings is still in 8.0420:20
frank23should my current xorg.conf work?20:21
frank23yes but nvidia-settings just segfaults when I try to save the X confguration20:21
superm1frank23, that should be fixed in the latest version of nvidia-settings....20:22
PatrikHRunning with sudo ?20:22
superm1are you sure you are up todate?20:22
superm1yeah and run with sudo if you're not..20:22
PatrikHMine did the same when i wasn´t20:23
frank23I'm up to date, run sudo nvidia-settings. Try to setup a separate screen for my TV on the right of the LCD and it segfaults when I click 'Save to X Configuration File'20:26
superm1frank23, do you have nvidia-settings from nvidia-glx-* or from the nvidia-settings source package?20:27
frank23superm1: it's from the nvidia-settings package20:30
superm1frank23, well that's not good.  the new version uploaded a day or two ago was supposed to fix that stuff..20:31
frank23superm1: I got it working. It probably didn't like my xorg.conf20:31
frank23I ran nvidia-xconfig which generated a new xorg.conf then nvidia-settings could save the changes20:32
frank23not a big deal but in gutsy I run  DISPLAY=:0.1  then mythfrontend and mythfrontend ran at 800x600 to fit in the tv. now I have to specify mythfrontend --geometry 800x600 to get it to draw at the correct resolution. I wonder what changed20:47
henrik__Hello! I got a bit of an annoying problem, after last weekly and the last update to 0.21 I have been experiencing an error message at startup, it says "Myth photo failed to mount /dev/sde using the default directory" Well I don't have a /dev/sde and I never specified it anywhere that I wanted to use this point. Looking in settings/Media/photo it states the right directory /var/lib/mythtv/photos.20:47
superm1frink_, xinerama isn't around anymore in the new xorg i think20:51
degresevenHello, i just installed mythbuntu & had everything working great. I updated everything through the update manager, and now I can't get mythfrontend to pop up. The process is running, but the window never pops up. When I run it from a terminal it just hangs after making the db connection21:45
henrik__degreseven, what does /var/log/mythfrontend.log show?22:05
degresevenjust "starting mythfrontend.real.."22:05
henrik__so your not getting any error messages?22:07
degresevenno, nothing22:07
henrik__can you start it manually as root?22:07
degresevenhavent tried as root, let me check22:07
henrik__please kill the sessions you already have with mythfrontend.22:08
degresevenyeah i did. The same thing happens when I run it as root. It just hangs after the line "New DB connection, total: 1"22:09
degresevencould it be a problem with a setting or something in the db?22:10
henrik__hmmm, it should have nothing to do with the backend, but it could very well be some corruption in the sql db.22:11
henrik__you can start frontend without even having the backend started22:12
degresevenoh right22:12
henrik__but then, you should atleast get some type of error information.22:13
degresevenyeah22:13
henrik__I would recomend starting a thread in the forum.22:13
degresevenok, thanks22:13
henrik__np sorry I couldnt be of more help...superm1 doesent seem to be here now, he could problebly point you in the right direction but he will se your post.22:14
