walterCan I retrieve any useful bug info from an un-bootable partition trashed during upgrade?02:24
walterLast night my amd_64 hardy tried to install 300+ updates (guess I'd been slacking) and when I went to check progress it was hung (mouse movement on black screen but nothing else). Now it won't boot but I can access the partition from Live CD to recover my home dir. Is there anything that would be useful for a bug before I whack the partition?02:24
RAOFwalter: Sounds like you've been hit by the "libc breaks everything" bug.  Support in #ubuntu+1 :)02:28
walterThanks, figured I wasn't the first. I'll try over there. Just wanted to make sure it was known :-).02:30
RAOFwalter: In fact, the /topic for #ubuntu+1 contians a link to how to fix :)02:30
walterEven better :-) Gotta be better than starting from scratch. Thanks again!02:31

henopedro_: could you look at bug 201466 when you have a chance? just see if there is more info I could supply11:23
ubotuLaunchpad bug 201466 in gdm "gdm_slave_xioerror_handler error in ubuntu hardy heron Alpha 6" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/20146611:23
pedro_heno: looking11:24
pedro_mmm that's the same error i had a couple of weeks ago11:24
henopedro_: it happens here every 2-3 days for the past weekish11:25
pedro_yeah intel card right?11:26
henopedro_: yes. I guess I should add lspci11:27
pedro_mm yeah, I've reported it a month ago or so, I've solved it by changing the AccelMethod in xorg.conf11:27
pedro_for being able to work at least11:27
pedro_Option          "AccelMethod"   "XAA"11:28
pedro_that workaround works for me11:28
pedro_it's reported as a xorg issue, let me grab the number11:28
henothanks11:29
pedro_sourcercito: congrats!11:29
henoThis happens with all desktop effects turned off though, FYI11:29
sourcercitopedro_, thanks11:29
sourcercitoabout what?11:29
pedro_heno: yep same happens to me11:29
henook11:30
pedro_haha sourcercito about your score on the hug day, did you look at the page?11:30

sourcercitowoohoo, no, i just open my little eyes, and turn on the computer, not the browser yet though ;)11:31

ubotuLaunchpad bug 140554 in xorg "X crashes on RV370 with firefox + gnash visiting certain urls (no desktop effects)" [Medium,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/14055411:31

pedro_sadly it doesn't show me any decent trace about it :-(11:32
pedro_so can't update the bug, but it's still happening11:32
henomine is not related to gnash though11:33
henowhat gnome bits are affected when you drag an image from the desktop to Gimp?11:34
pedro_mine either, when i just do some random things with a web browser it crashed the X session11:34
henobecause that seemed to trigger it11:34
henopedro_: did you get returned to GDM?11:35
henoI just get a blank screen11:35
pedro_noup i have to turn off the computer11:35
pedro_yeah same thing11:35
henook, same thing11:35
pedro_even if i log in trough ssh and kill gdm and X11:36

seb128hi Iulian11:39
hggdhhum. I just booted into 2.6.24-12.22... I do not understand. I *do* have X now11:40
pedro_yay greasemonkey is broken with latest firefox11:40
pedro_time to switch to epiphany11:40
hggdh:-) did it a loong time ago ;-)11:41
pedro_yeah me too, i'm an epiphany user, but it wasn't working too well for me so yeah firefox for a couple of weeks11:41
sourcercitopedro_, just hangs in my machine, a hard freeze without info ;)11:42
sourcercitodamn b43legacy11:42
hggdhmine would simply hard-reset into a new boot11:42
pedro_and i learn to hate the "location bar"11:42
pedro_what a intrusive thing11:42
henopedro_: under which section of xorg.conf did you add Option  "AccelMethod"   "XAA"? ServerLayout?11:44
pedro_heno: under the Device section11:44
henook, cool11:45
hggdhpedro_: insteresting -- all I did was put back a saved version of xorg.conf (and, of course, I forgot to save the original one). Now I can boot nicely with X/GDM (but right now configured to use KDM-KDE4)11:47
pedro_hahaha!11:47
pedro_nice nice11:47
hggdhalso, while I was having the issue, I could get to X by replacing the manager from GDM to KDM-KDE4...11:48
hggdhusing GDM I would be the hard-resets11:48
pedro_anything interesting on the gdm logs?11:49
hggdhno, not that I can see... most of the time I would get a hard reset; once I got a loop on fglrx causing oops in kernel mode11:51
hggdhno, there *are* strange thingies in the GDM log11:52
hggdhlibhal.c 3483 : Error unsubscribing to signals, error=Connection is closed11:54
hggdhprocess 10723: arguments to dbus_connection_get_dispatch_status() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 4081.11:54
hggdhThis is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.11:54
hggdhxinit:  connection to X server lost.11:54
hggdhthis is the last boot with GDM. I then rebooted in recovery mode, and dpkg-reconfigured  to use kdm-kde411:55
hggdhI think this is the one that I kept getting oops on fglrx11:55
hggdhyay... we are starting to get bugs on fglrx...12:27

affluxis there a way to quickly mark a set of bugs (and their duplicates) as a duplicate of a different one?16:02
affluxand don't tell me "tabs" ;)16:02
bdmurrayafflux: using python-launchpad-bugs it is fairly trivial16:02
affluxbdmurray: oh, didn't you post something to the ML or the wiki or something?16:03
bdmurrayI wrote something up about it using the e-mail interface too16:04
affluxah, okay. I'll check the python module16:05
bdmurrayThat was more for marking as a duplicate than changing duplicates16:05
bdmurrayafflux: I could show you an example script if you are interested16:06
affluxbdmurray: I just found https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugHelper/Dev/python-launchpad-bugs/Bug, I'll read it first ;)16:07
bdmurrayhmm, I think you could write something smarter than what I have too16:07
bdmurrayI'd be interested to see what you come up with as we've added an examples directory to the bzr branch of python-launchpad-bugs and I think a script like this would be a good example16:09
affluxalright16:11
telexiconHow is the 'm' key only responding half of the time within an xnest instance not a bug?16:29
james_wtelexicon: what is the bug number?16:30

ubotuLaunchpad bug 201729 in gdm "Pressing 'm' key only works half of the time." [Low,Invalid]16:30
affluxbdmurray: can I change the duplicate status just by changing the duplicate_of attribute of a Bug object and commiting afterwards?16:33
bdmurrayafflux: I think you want set_duplicate, I'm double checking now16:34
james_wtelexicon: you may have got the wrong package, I'm not sure though. I do think it is probably a bug though.16:34
telexiconjames_w, gdmflexiserver is part of the gdm package i thought16:35
bdmurraytelexicon: your bug could use some additional information like the release that you noticed it on and the package version16:35
telexiconbdmurray, ok thats fair, i wasnt sure what information to add, so i can do that16:36
thekornafflux, b.duplicate_of = 123456; b.commit()16:36
affluxthekorn: right, thank you16:36
bdmurrayHow did you submit the bug?  I thought there were instructions for adding that information.16:36
telexiconbdmurray, it just asked for a title and description16:37
telexiconbdmurray, i just went to the ubuntu page in launchpad and clicked, 'report a bug'16:38
bdmurrayBelow the description box there should be some instructions about things to include.16:38
telexiconok ill fix it16:39
affluxBug = Connector.ConnectBug(); Bug.authentication="cookies.txt"; print Bug(197712).duplicates --- this returnes an empty set for me, while bug 197712 has four duplicates. What am I doing wrong?16:40
ubotuLaunchpad bug 197712 in screenlets "ACPIBatteryScreenlet.py crashed with OSError in __create_tempfile()" [Undecided,In progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/19771216:40
affluxhaha16:40
affluxI'm not reloading the page in firefox, that's wrong :)16:40
bdmurraytelexicon: it'd be interesting to know that happens if you just run Xnest or Xephyr too16:43
bdmurraydepending on which you have installed.16:43
bdmurrayafflux: so it worked then?16:48
affluxbdmurray: I think I've a quite good solution for recursivly finding all the duplicates, I'll still need re-mark them16:49
bdmurrayYou may have though of this already but the order of operations be important, first do all the duplicates and the master if necessary.16:50
affluxbdmurray: http://pastebin.ca/94257616:51
affluxthe start_list is taken from bughelper16:52
affluxbdmurray: this is what I get: http://pastebin.ca/94257816:53
affluxIs it save to change the dups in that order, or should I start from the "last level"?16:55
bdmurrayWhat I was trying to say was if you have bugs 5 4 3 and they are dups of 2 but you want them to be dups of 1.  You have to change 5 4 3 and then 2.  You can't make 2 a dup of a bug when it has duplicates.16:57
affluxah, okay16:57

affluxcoffee time!17:26
bdmurrayGreat!  I'm curious about the start_list when you get back.17:27
affluxbdmurray: back17:41
affluxthe start_list was a set of bugs I extracted manually from bughelper -d --cookie=cookies.txt -A -T screenlets '__create_tempfile()' "propably dup of bug 160266" -p screenlets17:42
ubotuLaunchpad bug 160266 in screenlets "Files in /tmp not user-specific" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/16026617:42
bdmurrayafflux: Is it still an issue?17:45
affluxbdmurray: you mean 160266? According to the list of duplicates, yes17:45
bdmurrayI pulled the latest version it crashed with from one of the duplicates and put it in the description17:47
bdmurrayI think writing and submitting a clue file for this might be useful since we could still get crash reports about it.17:48

thekornafflux, you can use regex in cluefiles, .bughelper/packages/bughelper.info has an example17:55
