bob__jrib: no05:14
jribokay, well we are going to make a simple program to test mono05:14
bob__ok05:15
jribopen a text editor05:15
bob__done05:15
jribhttp://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/59656/05:15
jribpaste that in your editor05:15
bob__ok05:16
bob__done05:16
jribsave it to your desktop as helloworld.cs05:16
jribinstall the package mono-mcs05:17
jribopen a terminal05:17
jribexecute 'cd ~/Desktop'05:17
jribexecute 'mcs helloworld.cs'05:17
jribexecute 'mono helloworld.exe'05:18
bob__the letters hello world come up05:18
jribthen mono is working05:20
bob__I just read on the forums that it needs mono 1.2.505:21
bob__how do I get that?05:21
jribI do not know of an easy way for you to do that as only 1.2.4 is in Gutsy's repositories.  The only way I know of is for you to compile it.  Ask in #ubuntu if someone knows of an easier way05:23
bob__jrib: oh, the whole problem was I wasn't spelling it right in terminal05:24
jribhmm?05:24
bob__but now that i did i still get a massive error05:24
bob__http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/59657/05:25
bob__jrib ^^05:25
jribprobably a version issue as you suggested before05:26
bob__because in the forum they said to just go to synaptic and it would get me version 1.2.505:26
jrib!info mono05:26
bob__mono (source: mono): Mono CLI (.NET) runtime. In component main, is optional. Version 1.2.4-6ubuntu6.1 (gutsy), package size 1 kB, installed size 28 kB05:27
jribyep, 1.2.405:27
bob__latest version is 1.905:28
bob__according to mono site05:28
jribyes, but ubuntu repositories are frozen each release to ensure a stable environment05:29
bob__is there a safe way to install a newer version?05:29
jribI do not know of an easy way for you to do that as only 1.2.4 is in Gutsy's repositories.  The only way I know of is for you to compile it.  Ask in #ubuntu if someone knows of an easier way05:29
bob__ok, thank you so much for your help05:29
jribno problem, good luck05:30
bob__thanks, I don't suppose anyone will answer though05:30
jribexplain that you have an application that requires a later version of mono than what is in the repositories when you ask your question05:31
jrib!compile05:31
jribif you decide to try to compile it ^  I'll probably be around tomorrow too if you are still stuck05:32
jribubotu: compile05:32
jribubotu: wake up05:32
jribthere's also ubuntuforums.org and lists.ubuntu.com mailing list05:33
