staind9383does anyone know how to get download channel icons in .21?  the button for that is greyed out for me in my mythtv settings00:05
pdragonwhere's the new option to set the LiveTV idle timer in .21?00:44
pdragonhrm... seems there's no option for it on the gui00:50

pdragontgm4883_laptop_: you there?02:47
tgm4883_laptop_no02:51
pdragondamn02:51
mrplow-dan_0.21 is working great, I love the greedy deinterlace filter02:51
pdragonhttp://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/13574  any idea where that base.xml is?02:51
groutWhen I hit enter on "Watch Video" nothing happends.02:52
pdragongrout: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=72275602:53
mrplow-dan_is it possible to use the greedy de-interlace filter during a mythtranscode to a .NUV I've been trying to guess the custom filtername for it, greedyhdeint didn't seem to work02:53
tgm4883_laptop_pdragon, are you using .21?02:53
pdragonyes02:53
tgm4883_laptop_thats already in there02:54
tgm4883_laptop_or are you making a theme?02:54
pdragonno, i just don't see a clock02:54
tgm4883_laptop_what theme are you using?02:54
pdragonblootube02:55
pdragondefault mythbuntu one02:55
groutpdragon: Thanks a lot02:55
pdragonnp. i had the same problem02:55
tgm4883_laptop_pdragon, that may be why02:57
tgm4883_laptop_i'd have to check it on my system02:57
pdragonit wasn't added to the default theme?02:57
tgm4883_laptop_yep, it's there03:00
tgm4883_laptop_right on the bottom03:00
tgm4883_laptop_what type of tv do you have?03:00
pdragonhmm... ok. now something else weird is happening. when i'm watching tv and a recording starts or stops, the frontend freezes03:00
pdragonhttp://pastebin.com/m14e0bfeb03:02
pdragonthat's my frontend log03:02
Periumtgm4883_laptop_, oops, sorry I was just seeing who was here, no questions to ask03:04
pdragontgm4883_laptop_: I've got a 32" tube tv03:05
tgm4883_laptop_pdragon, use the screen setup wizard03:05
pdragoneverything else in the frontend looks fine. and there's a lot of free space on the bottom03:05
tgm4883_laptop_sounds like an overscan issue03:05
pdragonsec03:06
pdragonhmm... just realized my laptop that i have the frontend on still has the old version03:09
pdragonregular ubuntu doesn't see there's any update for it03:09
tgm4883_laptop_do you have backports on?03:12
tgm4883_laptop_cause .21 should be in backports03:12
pdragonahh no i don't. didn't realize mythbuntu had that turned on03:12
pdragonany ideas on the freezing frontend?03:12
tgm4883_laptop_sorry, no03:13
pdragonk. making a post in forums before logging a bug03:13
pdragonalright... something is really wrong. program guide says things are recording. upcoming recordings on mythweb does too. but the tuner isn't reporting that it's in use and i see nothing in my recorded shows03:18
pdragonjust restarting the stupid thing. brb03:20
pdragonamazing. that fixed it. lost the last show i recorded and the first 20 minutes of this one, though03:25
mrplow-danarg, I can't get any custom filters to work during a transcode, shouldn't I be able to put in "bobdeint" as the Custom Filter to at least get some deinterlacing?03:27
mrplow-danI'm trying 'invert' to see if thats working03:28
tritiumWhat are the release plans for mythbuntu 8.04?03:29
pdragon7.10 was released same day as ubuntu03:29
pdragoni think they're doing the same03:29
mrplow-dannope, invert isn't working either03:29
tritiumpdragon: was it the same day?03:29
pdragoni believe so03:30
pdragonsame or next03:30
tritiumpdragon: okay, that's encouraging.  This transition to 0.21 packages has left my system in a little less than desirable state.  I'm looking forward to a complete reinstall.03:30
mrplow-daninvert works fine as a custom filter for regular playback but not in the transcode settings03:31
pdragonit's on the frontpage of the mythbuntu website03:31
pdragonyeah, there's been some bumps for me too. gotten them fixed for the most part so far tho03:31
tritiumpdragon: thanks.03:31
tritiumpdragon: I do for the most part too, except for a lot of NO DATA in my Channel Listings.03:32
tritiumAnd I've checked the raw XML from Schedules Direct -- it's good.03:32
tritiumBy the way, this is fantastic: http://www.digitalhome.ca/ota/superantenna/index.htm03:32
tritiumI already have a DB2, or I might build myself one.03:32
pdragonhmm... i dunno. mine is working ok03:33
pdragonpart of me wants to reinstall from scratch, too. but i've got it all set up and working how i like. would be a lot of work :/03:39
tritiumpdragon: I understand.03:41
pdragonwill try the upgrade a week or so after release. if it doesn't work well afterwards, i may reload03:49
tritiumI've had troubles with Comcast, and reconfigured my tuners several times.  It's minor, but annoying to me, that my tuners are now numbered Encoders 10 through 13.03:52
pdragonhmm... i see the Screen Setup Wizards option on my one remote frontend, but don't see it on my main backend/frontend combo system04:12
superm1pdragon, on gutsy?04:41
superm1if you're on gutsy there is a bug related to it :)04:41
tritiumIt's quite strange that a subset of my local HD channels are showing NO DATA in the channel listings.05:00
pdragonyes, gutsy05:05
pdragonthe remote front end is gusty, too, but it's an ubuntu desktop with the frontend installed05:05
superm1pdragon, yeah05:17
superm1so here's wh05:17
superm1y05:17
superm1MCC diverts that xml file05:17
superm1the hardy version is updated for it05:17
superm1but gutsy isnt05:17
pdragonhmm.. ok05:20
pdragoni just changed my theme to mythcenter instead of the default. the time shows up ok in that one now, so don't have to adjust the screen05:22
pdragontime for bed. finally got my netflix account set up and going to test the livetvtimeout option tonight05:26
homercyclesHelp. I'm trying to add a capture card during myth setup, and I'm stuck in an endless loop of Capture Cards <> Capture Card Setup. All I can do is (New Capture Card), (Delete all..), (Delete all again...) or choose the card I just added. How do I get out of this section and save my new card? Thanks05:39
homercyclesEvery time I choose Finish in the Capture Card Setup screen, it loads the Capture Card screen allowing me to add/delete/choose my new card05:40
tritiumhomercycles: you hit Esc?05:42
homercyclesAh, Esc. Thanks. There should be a button down the bottom to exit that section, but anyway, I know now.05:52
camelreefgood morning from Scotland08:00
camelreefI'm looking for XMLTV setup help08:01
camelreefhere is my issue: http://mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2008-March/215332.html08:01
fubuntuI need some help, when I try to watch tv with mythtv the screen changes and then goes back to the menu imediatly. I though my capture card wasn't installed properly so to test I downloaded tvtime and it works fine. How can I make it work for mythtv? any ideas?09:12
fubuntuI also have problems with dvds, when I try to play a dvd my screen goes black and the computer freezes. If I try to rip a non protected dvd made from tv shows mythtv says can't connect to dvd daemon, something has gone seriously wrong. Any ideas on that one?09:14
Koffadoes mythtv-setup log somewhere?09:18
Koffait offers to create /var/lib/mythtv/livetv/ -directory, but fails without any visible errors09:19
Koffait's silent even when started from terminal o,O09:21
Koffamedia library -> watch videos *click09:55
Koffa* -> nothing happens09:55
myth-newbis that after the update?10:20
myth-newbI had the same problem10:20
myth-newbmyth-dvd has been superseeded by myth video10:20
myth-newbso you nee to go to package manager10:21
myth-newbuninstall myth-dvd and install myth-video10:21
myth-newbworked for me?10:21
Koffaumm10:26
KoffaI thought I got rid of all .20 stuff already10:26
Koffano mythdvd here10:27
Koffahmm.. restarting frontend fixed it... probably forgot to do that earlier10:28
Koffathx for the tip though10:28
Koffafunny that nothing was logged10:29
lime4x4heres an odd problem running hardy mythbuntu as long as i have the wired ethernet connected my wireless works13:40
Koffayou can't test backend-capabilities with the live-cd?-o14:44
Koffadunno if there are any developers around but it seems to ignore layout selected at boot14:46
Koffaworks in X but not in vt's14:46
=== myth-newb is now known as Iggle-Piggle
reclusivemonkeyhello everyone14:59
reclusivemonkeycan anyone point me to some instructions on configuring mythbuntu with XMLTV? It all seems to have changed since last time :-S15:01
reclusivemonkeyOh, it seems channels.dat is feeling empty inside again LOL.15:23
ahave_hello room15:29
ahave_is there a hardware list that i can cross refrence for compatibility?15:29
ahave_i would like to know if the onboard graphics in the GA-MA78GM-S2H are linux friendly15:30
directhexahave_, what brand is the chipset?15:33
ahave_amd15:34
directhexjunk15:34
ahave_:(15:34
ahave_should i stick with nvidia or intel?15:34
directhexofficially, ati does not support mythtv. unofficially, they're right15:34
directhexi.e. http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=2690715:35
ahave_well do you have any suggestions for good htpc MB? i am looking for blu decoding and would prefer intigrated graphics to keep noise down15:35
directhexto play blu-ray will require a decent cpu. graphics, anything goes15:37
ahave_I was trying to go AMD to save some cash, but if I went intel.. how does this setup look?  https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=8417086&WishListTitle=IBM%2DMediaPc15:41
directhexchrist on a bike, what do you need a $200 graphics card for?15:42
directhexi thought you wanted onboard graphics15:43
ahave_i was told i need to go big for bluray/HD playback15:43
ahave_well that setup did not have onboard15:43
directhexyou were lied to, unless the person in question was specifixally talking about windows15:44
ahave_well they actually said the graphics card was not enough..15:44
ahave_lol15:44
directhexthey're drowning in bullshit, then15:45
ahave_hmm15:45
directhexglub glub glub15:45
directhexglaaaarg gasp splutter15:45
ahave_but if i went with a mythtv/xp dualboot.. i would need such a graphics card, right? just for XP?15:46
directhexif you wanted to play games at high resolution, sure15:46
directhexfor playing video, you can rely on the CPU, or GPU-based acceleration. there's no GPU-based accleration for HD formats under linux, so you need a decent CPU. if the CPU is good enough under linux, it's good enough for windows15:47
ahave_so i just need a fast CPU and a MB with onboard hdmi/DVI15:49
directhexcorrect15:49
ahave_with nvidia15:50
ahave_*chipset15:50
directhexnvidia or intel are fine15:51
ahave_do you know the diffrence between nForce and gForce15:51
ahave_I would like to go AMD just for the cost, so nvidia is my only choice15:52
ahave_can someone explainto me how a mythtv backend works?16:14
ahave_it is possible to put all cable cards on the backend and stream the video via cat5/6 network?16:15
tgm4883ahave_, cable cards?16:15
ahave_err, tv tuner16:15
tgm4883afaik, cable cards don't work16:15
tgm4883tuners though16:15
tgm4883yes, you can do that16:15
tgm4883in fact16:15
tgm4883most people do16:15
ahave_what type of processing power do the backends to to have?16:16
tgm4883If it's just SD content, you can even use wireless16:16
tgm4883Depends on what you want it to do16:16
tgm4883and what type of tuners you have16:16
ahave_lets say stream HD content.. bluray .iso for example16:17
tgm4883just a backend, no frontend?16:17
ahave_frontend would be there also16:17
tgm4883well the frontend would take most of the power, serving iso's is easy16:17
tgm4883it's just transfering content16:17
ahave_true, all the decoding would be done on the front16:18
tgm4883yes16:18
ahave_what about using the tv tuner cards? what if i had 2 SD and maybe one HD16:18
tgm4883thats why on backend only machines with hardware encoder cards you can go with low system specs16:18
ahave_watching 1, other 2 recording16:18
tgm4883well if you had 2 SD tuners and an HD tuner on a backend only, you could get away with probably something around 1ghz16:19
Koffagah16:19
Koffastill missing program data16:19
tgm4883again, it's the playback that requires lots of power16:19
ahave_ok16:20
tgm4883get something like a pvr-500 (or 2 pvr-150) and a HD encoder card like the pcHDTV 550 and your set16:20
ahave_what about HD storage.. do i need some raptor-esk hard drive to ensure no hiccups when recording off tv tuner cards?16:21
tgm4883no, pata is fine, sata is better16:21
tgm4883I did 1 HD recordings and 1 HD playback concurrent on a pata drive just fine16:22
ahave_hmm16:22
ahave_any need for cat6 networking?16:23
tgm4883for HD?16:23
ahave_or 10/100 fast enough16:23
Koffaanyone using ssd?16:23
ahave_yea, HD16:23
tgm488310/100 is fast enough16:23
ahave_would it be worth buying a 10/100/1000 just in case?16:23
ahave_a router that is16:24
tgm4883_laptopno, and i will tell you why16:24
tgm4883_laptopIIRC, gigabit routers are rather expensive16:24
tgm4883_laptopalot more than gigabit switches16:24
tgm4883_laptopand since you wont need it for your internet (unless you have really fast)16:25
ahave_true16:25
ahave_i could just got with a gigabit switch16:25
tgm4883_laptopyep16:27
tgm4883_laptopthats what i did16:27
ahave_one last Q, CPU wattage.. for a HTPC trying to be quite, how much is too much? will 65W be too much to cool quietly?16:27
tgm4883_laptopwell it would also depends on your cooling fan/heatsink16:27
ahave_well i am still looking for a nice case.. wanting one with dual 120mm fans16:28
ahave_and lets say i get the best heatsink in can fit in the case16:28
tgm4883_laptop65w should be fine16:28
tgm4883_laptopprobably even with stock16:29
ahave_125W overkill? too much?16:29
tgm4883_laptopalthough if you really wanted quite, you would stick the backend in the basement or something and just have a frontend by itself16:29
=== ahave_ is now known as ahave
ahaveoh, sorry.. the CPU i am talking about would be for the frontend16:30
tgm4883_laptop8.04?16:30
ahavewhat do you mean by 8.04?16:31
tgm4883_laptopwhat are you going to install on it?  Gutsy or hardy?16:31
tgm4883_laptopcause if it's hardy, and there are no tuners on your frontend, you should forego the Hard drive too and netboot16:32
ahaveoh oh, idk yet to be honest.. mostlikely the latest and greatest, so hardy16:32
ahavehmm16:32
ahavewell i can do that in the future, but for now the plan is to build the front end... adding HDs for storage as need, then once I am maxed i will offload all but one HD to the backend and install tv tuners and such16:33
ahavebut I could at that point do a net boot as you suggest.. any performance drop?16:34
* tgm4883_laptop shrugs16:34
tgm4883_laptopyou would want to talk with laga about all that16:34
ahavewhy is that?16:35
tgm4883_laptoplaga is in charge of implementing all of that16:37
tgm4883_laptopi haven't used it yet16:37
ahaveah16:39
ahavewell it will be awhile before i get to that point16:39
ahavedo you know if the LG bluray/HD dvd is mythtv compat?16:43
tgm4883_laptopwell the better question is linux compatible16:43
ahavei found this, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/BluRayAndHDDVD16:44
ahavebut i am still reluctant to get it16:44
* tgm4883_laptop wouldn't get it16:46

tgm4883_laptopif you can still find the the xbox 360 hddvd drive is $50 new16:49

ahaveheh16:57
* tgm4883 hates over used buzzwords16:57
ahavedo you have any HD content then? just over the air/cable?16:58
tgm4883especially when everyone is like, ohh, next gen.  and i'm like sweet i'll buy one, and they hand it to me and i'm like "what the fsck is this?  An optical disk?  I thought this was next gen.  Call me when it's on a freaking flash drive"16:58
tgm4883I use to have OTA/Cable via firewire HD, but then i moved16:59
tgm4883no i have to have directv :(16:59
tgm4883so no HD until hauppauge releases their card16:59
ahavei agree that flash will be the 'next gen' for media17:00
ahaveeither that or just download. but american ISPs will need to get on the ball before that happens17:00
tgm4883seriously, i can buy a 4 gb drive for like 20 bucks the size of my fingernail17:00
tgm4883true17:00

AndroktasieHi, new Ubuntu user here, I'm having problems setting up Mythbuntu 7.10 for use with my D-Link DWL-520 rev. E wifi card.  I've read that the hostap drivers are junk for it, so I've went ahead and blacklisted them so I no longer see the card in networking.  I then installed ndiswrapper and successfully got it to install the proper INF driver, and while it says that the driver is installed and...19:55
Androktasie...the hardware is present, the wifi won't show up in the Networking pane. Could anyone please help me?19:55
