superm1_well dont change it in mcc -00:00
superm1_that will change the driver too00:00
superm1_but there is only one conf file to include00:00
rhpot1991ya00:00
superm1_for mceusb to be a possible rmoet00:00
rhpot1991thats what I did00:00
rhpot1991let me reboot and make sure its not loading the old by accident even though I reloaded and restarted lirc00:00
rhpot1991superm1_: I know what lircd command is run, how do I run that not as a daemon?00:10
superm1_lircd --help00:10
superm1_i dont know off hand00:10
rhpot1991ok, it goes ready, and nothing else00:11

tgm4883those above questions are for you01:12
linnixUnited states - Colorado, i was using firefox (i will try ie and safri in a second) and i did try a refresh01:12
tgm4883hmm, interesting01:12
tgm4883do you have javascript enabled?01:13
linnixyeah i sure do01:13
linnixI see a javascrip error with IE let me copy it down for you, just a moment01:14
linnixLine 7, char: 1, Error: Object Expected, Code: 0 URL http://mythbuntu.org/download/?file=mythbuntu-8.04-alpha4-alternate-i386.iso01:15
linnixerror in firefox is: urchinTracker is not defined http://mythbuntu.org/download/?file=mythbuntu-8.04-alpha4-alternate-i386.iso01:17
linnixI am not sure if this helps or not01:17
tgm4883I will pass that along to the guy who wrote the script01:17
tgm4883you are looking for the alt i386 iso?01:18
tgm4883linnix, might I be able to help you with this01:20
tgm4883http://mirror.foxmediasystems.com/mythbuntu-8.04-alpha4-desktop-i386.iso01:20
linnixyes i am but i tried all of the links and none of them worked (8.04a i386 desktop/alt or amd desktop/alt nor did the md5 sums)01:21
linnixthanks01:21
tgm4883afaik, there is a problem with the alt disks, and they need to be pulled01:21
superm1_tgm4883, yeah they do need to be pulled.  i dont know why they are broke yet01:40
superm1_but they are01:40
tgm4883k01:40
tgm4883pulled01:43
linnixis there a direct link that i can use?01:48
superm1_linnix, what version of FF are you running?01:48

superm1_or anything similar?01:48
tgm4883linnix, i gave you a direct link01:51
linnixFF 2.0.0.101:52
linnixand no popup blocker were used01:53
linnixwhere is the direct link?01:53
superm1_well that's rather odd that you were getting that01:54
superm1_my suspicion would be that higher up something is filtering our click tracking01:54
superm1_http://mirror.foxmediasystems.com/mythbuntu-8.04-alpha4-desktop-i386.iso01:54
superm1_thats the URL tgm4883 gave you01:54
asmythewhat is the best card for mythtv01:55
linnixasmythe, i have had a lot of luck with my hauppauge pvr35001:57
tritiumasmythe: for HD, I like my DViCo Fusion, and the HDHomeRun (external)02:01
asmytheI want to add another tuner to my mythtv box same quality as my tv wonder pro02:15
superm1_asmythe, the hauppauge pvr series cards are the way to go then i say02:24
superm1_pvr 150,250,350, 50002:24
asmythethanks I will look for 1 of those03:38
sslashesi'm so dumbfounded: i cannot - regardless of what i do - install mythbuntu 8.04 a4. the desktop version won't let me select any items on the bootmenu - it doesn't respond to any keyboard input - i tried the ubuntu 8.04 a6 desktop cd, and that worked fined - additionally, the ubuntu alternative cd doesn't exhibit this issue - any ideas?03:45
sslashesby "ubuntu alternative" cd, i mean both the ubuntu and mythbuntu alternative cds03:46
sslashesso this issue is *only* with the mythbuntu desktop cd03:46
superm1_sslashes, usb keyboard?03:47
sslashessuperm1_: usb, ps2, and usb using a usb to ps2 converted =)03:49
superm1_hm interesting03:49
sslashesi cannot think of any reason why that would occur...03:50
superm1_if [$user = "sslashes" ]; then act_bad(); else act_normal() fi03:51
superm1_:)03:51
sslasheshehe03:51
superm1_sslashes, fwiw, i found the bug on the alt disks03:56
superm1_it should be resolved with tonight's build03:56
superm1_as long as i got these changes in in time03:57
superm1_which i think i di03:57
superm1_did03:57
superm1_i'll verify once the build finishes (at ~1:30 cst)03:57
rhpot1991superm1_: does a user created with mythbuntu automagically get added to the mythtv group?03:58
superm1_rhpot1991, only in the desktop installer03:58
superm1_not the alternate03:58
rhpot1991ok good, lets see if thats the problem03:58
sslashessuperm1_: great, i'm bitting at the bit to get this alpha installed =)03:58
superm1_rhpot1991, how'd you install?03:58
rhpot1991latest alpha desktop cd03:58
rhpot1991!pastebin03:59
ubotupastebin is a service to post multiple-lined texts so you don't flood the channel. The Ubuntu pastebin is at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org (make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic)03:59
rhpot1991superm1_: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/59894/04:00
rhpot1991made mythtv own that even04:00
rhpot1991drwxr-xr-x are the perms on it, should work04:00
superm1_how are you starting mythbackend?04:00
rhpot1991init.d04:01
superm1_okay04:01
superm1_can you do ls -alh on / then?04:01
rhpot1991frontend is run as john, which doesn't seem to have perms to write to that04:01
superm1_let me just see what it says on it04:01
superm1_and then ls -alh on /mythtv too04:01
superm1_see now if you stuck with the default directories odds are this wouldn'ta happened.... ;)04:02
rhpot1991http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/59896/04:02
rhpot1991heh04:02
rhpot1991I like my /mythtv scheme04:02
rhpot1991actually I'll go check against those04:02
superm1_hm well those look sane04:03
rhpot1991different perms04:03
superm1_probably rwxrwxr-x04:03
rhpot1991drwxrwsr-x04:03
rhpot1991know what that is in digits off the top of your head?04:03
superm1_i'm not sure what the sticky bit does on it?04:04
superm1_it shouldn't matter04:04
sslashessuperm1_: where are the daily builds available?04:04
superm1_sslashes, cdimages.ubuntu.com04:05
superm1_only alternates are built daily04:05
superm1_the desktop cds are much more preferable to use though, because they do a lot of magic during install that cant be done on the alternate yet04:05
superm1_rhpot1991, but i mean if you ignore sticky bit, it should just be 775 should it not?04:06
rhpot1991I got the sticky bit on, still no go04:06
rhpot1991my user can do things in there now04:07
superm1_your user doesnt need to do things in there04:07
superm1_its only the 'mythtv' user04:07
superm1_you can try this04:07
superm1_sudo su mythtv04:07
superm1_and become the user04:07
superm1_and see what he can and can't do04:07
rhpot1991he can touch files04:07
superm1_is that log current then?04:08
rhpot1991no, but its still doing the same, so its current enough04:08
rhpot1991let me verify my fstab isn't funky04:08
rhpot1991and this kids, is why you don't touch working hardware...04:09
superm1_i do it all the time04:12
superm1_i'm just careful04:12
rhpot1991well the problem is I went all new hardware, and I'm used to configuring the old stuff04:12
superm1_so are you amd64 this time installed?04:18
rhpot1991yep04:18
rhpot1991I have an idea of what it might be, checking now04:18
superm1_something silly i hope04:19
rhpot1991ah darn, looks like nx doesn't work here04:19
rhpot1991it is silly04:19
rhpot1991complained about something gnome related04:19
rhpot1991thats a shame04:19
superm1_that's what is was?04:19
rhpot1991no, thats nx not working04:20
superm1_oh04:21
superm1_so what was it then?'04:21
rhpot1991I don't know if I should tell you04:22
rhpot1991I have to have some pride after all :)04:22
superm1_oh come on04:22
superm1_what was it04:23
rhpot1991I did /mythtv/drive1/ in my file system, and /mythtv/disk1/ in the mythtv-setup04:23
superm1_haha04:23
superm1_yeah so you did04:23
rhpot1991btw this display works good on here04:23
rhpot1991lcdproc04:23
superm1_easy to make work?04:24
rhpot1991installed lcdproc and went to the config and told it to use the imon driver04:24
rhpot1991then turned it on in mythtv04:24
superm1_want to add a page to mcc to prettify that?04:24
superm1_or is it worth it?04:24
rhpot1991not sure its that hard to do that it requires something on MCC04:24
rhpot1991if I ever get lirc working I was planning on doing a wiki page on the fusion04:25
rhpot1991easy enough to just toss it in there04:25
rhpot1991I have to be doing something stupid, cause I don't seem to see any talk about lirc problems and I'm sure there are lots of people using the fusion04:25
rhpot1991thats semi annoying, power button on this remote turns my xbox on04:27
superm1_haha04:27
superm1_that's really annoying04:27
superm1_electrical tape to the rescue04:27
superm1_again04:27
rhpot1991seriously04:28
superm1_do you use it for anything else?04:28
superm1_i mean that you need the ir04:28
rhpot1991the 360?04:28
superm1_the mceusb remote + 36004:28
rhpot1991mceremote is just for the mythbox for now04:29
rhpot1991360 is just for games04:29
superm1_yeah then electrical tape on the 36004:29
rhpot1991if irrecord can see button presses then the remote should be compatable with the receiver right?04:29
tgm4883_laptopyou can disable the remote on the 36004:30
rhpot1991tgm4883_laptop: I'll just do that then04:31
tgm4883_laptopalthough for some reason mine was still turning on for some reason04:31
tgm4883_laptopso try disabling it first04:31
tgm4883_laptopand if that doesn't work, then get some white tape04:31
rhpot1991anyone know a command line cpu temp sensor?04:31
superm1_sensors04:32
superm1_you may need to run sensors-detect first though04:32
superm1_and hit yes to everything, cept at the end you need to type yes04:32
tgm4883_laptoplmsensors04:34
rhpot1991Core1 Temp:  +24.0°C04:34
rhpot1991suppose thats good enogh04:34
rhpot1991I had a hard time getting the fan on, so I am kinda worried about the heat04:35
rhpot1991though one core is hotter than the other04:35
tgm4883_laptoprhpot1991, getting the fan on?04:35
tgm4883_laptopoh you mean mounted04:35
rhpot1991heatsink04:35
rhpot1991not fan, just the whole sink04:35
rhpot1991was contemplating redoing it, but I was tired so I didn't04:35
tgm4883_laptopwhen i mounted mine on my C2D, i thought it was broke cause when i turned the system on it didn't move04:36
superm1_good enough, that's pretty good04:36
rhpot1991my buddy did that, and it apparently has some strange plug on the bottom04:36
rhpot1991that he missed04:36
superm1_supermario's CPU temp is 35.5 C04:36
rhpot1991spam warning04:36
rhpot1991Core0 Temp:  +17.0°C04:36
rhpot1991Core0 Temp:   +6.0°C04:36
rhpot1991Core1 Temp:  +24.0°C04:36
rhpot1991Core1 Temp:   +9.0°C04:36
superm1_out but my core temp is 12 C04:37
superm1_the CPU fan temp is 3504:37
rhpot1991hmmm, mine is only saying core temps04:37
superm1_yeah you need to run sensors-detecft04:37
superm1_to get the other sensors added04:37
rhpot1991I did04:37
superm1_and at the end it lists some modules04:37
superm1_modprobe those04:37
tgm4883_laptopmine actually only spins up when it needs cooled04:38
rhpot1991Sys Temp:    +28.0°C CPU Temp:    +25.0°C04:39
superm1_that's how my old P4 was too04:39
rhpot1991superm1_: you should look at this fan for your microatx04:39
superm1_not my pentium d though :(04:39
superm1_rhpot1991, i got a thermaltake 15 dollar deally04:39
superm1_it works fine04:39
rhpot1991http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185046&Tpk=Scythe%2bNinja%2bmini04:40
tgm4883_laptopi'm using my stock heatsink and it doesn't get to hot04:40
rhpot1991well hold on to that for when you upgrade04:40
superm1_god that looks excessive04:40
* rhpot1991 had a heck of a time finding a fan for the antec fusion04:40
superm1_wouldn't fit in my microatx i fear04:40
superm1_very little room by the power supply and CPU04:41
superm1_they are like neck to neck04:41
rhpot1991ah04:41
rhpot1991need a new case then too :)04:41
superm1_no not at all04:41
rhpot1991may I suggest an antec fusion04:41
superm1_let me go get camera and show04:41
superm1_brb04:41
rhpot1991then you can fix lirc and tell me how04:41
tgm4883bah, i think i screwed up encoding this file04:42
rhpot1991tgm4883: what are you encoding for?04:43
rhpot1991is that no password bug still in MCC apparently?04:43
tgm4883rhpot1991, was thinking about encoding all my dvd rips into xvid or h26404:44
tgm4883so i can play them back on my 36004:44
tgm4883but i'm getting some horizontal tearing04:44
rhpot1991don't you do iso?04:44
rhpot1991or didn't you04:44
tgm4883rhpot1991, the 360 doesn't play iso04:44
rhpot1991ya I know04:45
rhpot1991really need it to play them?>04:45
foxbunturhpot1991, didn't you see the wiki about the VFD and knob on the Fusion?04:46
tgm4883If i'm going to use the 360 as a frontend, then yess04:46
rhpot1991you should transcode on the fly, that would be slick04:46
superm1_http://picasaweb.google.com/superm1/MythTVFrontend/photo#517856733131326657804:46
rhpot1991foxbuntu: the one on wiki.mythtv?04:46
rhpot1991superm1_: ouch, that would not fit at all04:46
foxbunturhpot1991, yea04:46
tgm4883eh, transcoding on the fly may be a waste of some good processing power04:47
rhpot1991tgm4883: how so04:47
rhpot1991you planning on watching them that many times each?04:47
tgm4883i could put that processor to better uses04:47
superm1_rhpot1991, yeah that case is really really tight, but it makes it look nice at least04:48
rhpot1991foxbuntu: that only tells you how to do the wheel though, I am trying to just get the remote working right now04:48
foxbuntuoh didn't know it had a remote04:49
rhpot1991ya it has a built in IR sensor04:49
rhpot1991imon of some sort, that is supposed to be compatable with mce remotes04:50
rhpot1991what desktop manager does mythbuntu use by default?04:50
foxbuntuimon or mce?04:50
foxbuntuxfce404:50
rhpot1991its an imon sensor according to what I have read04:50
rhpot1991I tried the mce ones hoping, no go, imon ones aren't being very helpful either04:51
superm1_woah the new gphoto library is rather nice04:54
superm1_my camera operates in PTP mode normally04:54
superm1_but this obfuscates that04:54
superm1_and makes it look like its acting in USB mode04:54
superm1_rhpot1991, refresh that web album04:55
superm1_you can see the front view of it04:55
foxbunturhpot1991, you tried an hal-device query to find the ir receiver and find out whaqt it shows up as?04:56
rhpot1991nice04:56
rhpot1991foxbuntu: I looked at it via lsusb04:56
foxbunturhpot1991, hal-device provides more details04:57
rhpot1991SoundGraph Inc. iMON PAD Remote Controller04:57
rhpot1991http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/59900/05:01
rhpot1991I wonder if its bad that the first has lirc_imon as the driver and the 2nd has usb05:01
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, I have an idea05:02
rhpot1991lets hear it05:02
foxbuntu_laptopsudo cp /usr/share/lirc/remotes/imon/lircd.conf.imon-pad /etc/lirc/lircd.conf05:04
foxbuntu_laptopsudo mythbuntu-lircrc-generator05:04
rhpot1991is there anything I should import from my old db other than my recording schedule if I am not bringing any recordings with me?05:05
foxbuntu_laptopthen restart lirc and mythfrontend05:05
rhpot1991foxbuntu_laptop: give me a second05:05
foxbuntu_laptopk05:05
rhpot1991gonna need to disable the mce usb05:05
foxbuntu_laptopk05:05
rhpot1991you want me to do that with the imon enabled right?05:06
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, what do you mean enabled?05:06
rhpot1991selected via MCC05:06
foxbuntu_laptopignore MCC05:06
foxbuntu_laptopclose it05:06
rhpot1991actually imon is already loaded05:06
foxbuntu_laptopoh also...05:07
foxbuntu_laptopsudo depmod imon_pad05:07
foxbuntu_laptoper05:08
foxbuntu_laptopmodprobe i mean05:08
rhpot1991s/imon_pad/lirc_imon05:08
foxbuntu_laptoplol05:09
foxbuntu_laptopyea05:09
* foxbuntu_laptop is getting tired05:09
rhpot1991irw isn't gonna like this, its a mce remote not the imon pad :(05:09
foxbuntu_laptopwell you might need to do some crazy stuff to make it all work05:10
rhpot1991ya05:10
foxbuntu_laptopdid you enable the lirc_imon in the hardware.conf05:10
rhpot1991I can cat /dev/lirc0 and see crap05:10
rhpot1991it was before, now its mce (thats what I was talking about disabling before)05:10
sslashessuperm1_: the desktop cd bootmenu acts normally on my setup with mythbuntu 8.04 alpha 2, alpha 3 exhibits the same problem as the latest alpha (an unresponsive bootmenu)05:11
superm1_sslashes, that's really bzr05:12
sslashesheh, yeah - idk ho to explain it05:15
sslashes*how05:16
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, so if you have the lirc_imon enabled in the hardware.conf and load it with depmod/modprobe and then use the MCE lircd.conf05:16
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, don't try to do it with MCC05:17
rhpot1991foxbuntu_laptop: I tried that with no luck05:17
rhpot1991coulda messed something up though05:17
rhpot1991let me try it agian05:18
rhpot1991foxbuntu_laptop: did that, I don't see a thing with irw then05:28
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, right...but irw doesn't do anything for my MCE either05:28
rhpot1991does it matter that hardware.conf still has this REMOTE_LIRCD_CONF="imon/lircd.conf.imon-pad"05:28
foxbuntu_laptoptry it on the frontend05:28
rhpot1991ah05:28
rhpot1991whats the easiest way to restart the frontend, I'm use to killing gdm on my old box05:28
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, yes it matters05:28
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, clear that out so it uses the default config05:29
foxbuntu_laptopwhich if you copied the MCE file over it should be your MCE remote05:29
rhpot1991ya I did that then reran the lircgenerator05:30
foxbuntu_laptopk05:30
foxbuntu_laptopso make REMOTE_LIRCD_CONF="imon/lircd.conf.imon-pad" to REMOTE_LIRCD_CONF=""05:30
rhpot1991yep05:30
foxbuntu_laptopand you restarted lirc after that?05:30
rhpot1991yep, just rebooted the box actually05:31
foxbuntu_laptopk05:31
rhpot1991cause I don't have a keyboard hooked up to restart the frontend05:31
foxbuntu_laptopoh05:31
foxbuntu_laptopwell ssh05:31
rhpot1991wasn't sure how to spawn it there05:31
foxbuntu_laptopyou using vnc?05:31
rhpot1991like I said, I used to restart gdm, but I don't have that now05:31
rhpot1991ssh05:31
rhpot1991and nx05:31
foxbuntu_laptopoh05:31
rhpot1991though nx with xfce4 sucks05:32
rhpot1991so I might have to go back to vnc05:32
rhpot1991no go on the frontend05:32
foxbuntu_laptoprhpot1991, gdm should still be there05:32

MUS4SHIIIok, I think I found the problem. Apparently gedit was saving the files in DOS format. I opened the file with nano and added a #Note to force a save on exit. The save says I need to press menu+d to get rid of the DOS format. My menu key just keeps bringing up a context menu. Now this is just getting silly :)06:27
superm1_okay so it was my original suspicion then !06:29
superm1_i'm surprised gedit was doing that to you06:29
KillerKiwi2005stupid budget mythbuntu machine with only 2 usb ports....06:29
MUS4SHIIIlooks like your were right, you're the man. Can I change that in the gedit properties somewhere?06:30
superm1_MUS4SHIII, i'm not sure.  I stay away from gedit06:30
superm1_i use geany personally06:30
MUS4SHIIIok, i've got geany installed and up. is there somewhere that tells me the file format in geany?06:34
MUS4SHIIInvm, think i found it.06:35

superm1_oh yeah06:35
superm1_after you play with the settings a bit, you'll see a lot of really cool features in it06:36

superm1_well as long as it doesnt spit out errors when loading the file don't worry i say06:38
KillerKiwi2005make sure im getting raw input06:38
superm1_irw tests lircd.conf for errors, and ircat tests lircrc for errors, and /cat /dev/lirc0 tests the module for errors :)06:38
KillerKiwi2005mythbuntu should have a wizard for all those06:39
superm1_well we don't have much in terms of a debugging suite, but that is a good idea for intrepid06:39
KillerKiwi2005or just driver error/ lirc error/ lircd error detected06:39
superm1_something with shiny buttons to test all those possibilities06:40
MUS4SHIIIsounds good. While I"m here, got any ideas about speeding up response time in X. I just setup three monitors today with 2 nVidia cards. 2 LCDs are on Twinview and one 32" CRT TV is running a separate X session. Since I did it, things just aren't quite as snappy.06:40

MUS4SHIIIHi everyone. I'm doing a MythTV install and having some trouble with my tuner cards. I'm getting the error "mythtv failed to open card" when I try to scan for channels in the backend setup. I also saw "no device tree for cardid". In the frontend it was saying that all the tuners were in use. Here is the pastebin of my ivtv grep if that helps. http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/59904/08:32
MUS4SHIIIWow, this is frustrating. I really don't want to go back to MCE 2005. I'm finally trying to go all Linux, but I need TV to work. Any help would be appreciated.08:36

directhex|workKillerKiwi2005, yes, there is10:37
KillerKiwi2005how? besides working it all out by hand?10:37
directhex|workare all your cards of the same type, i.e. they use the same kernel module?10:44
directhex|workif not, then simply put drivers into /etc/modules in the order you want them. if so, read http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Device_Filenames_and_udev10:46
weiserMythvideo, how does it work, I have seprated frontend and backend, but does it play the files centralzed from the backend or local at the frontend?15:28
JediahAnybody have any tips for troubleshooting wireless on 8.04a415:28
rhpot1991_laptopweiser: mythvideo files are read from the frontend in that instance15:29
directhex|workweiser, it plays files which are accessible on frontends, from a "central" location15:29
rhpot1991_laptopso store them there, or store them on the backend and share them out to the frontend15:29
Jediahweiser, i had to share the folder from my backend to get them all to work15:30
directhex|worki.e. if they're in /media/myvideos on the backend, and you add them to mythvideo with that location, all frontends must also use /media/myvideos15:30
weiseroki, I will set up a share for it, thanks for all the answer15:32

KoffaNVP: prebuffering pause (abt 10 times), WriteAudio: buffer underrun (once), NVP: Prebuffer wait timed out 10 times. (until you exit the channel, picture and sound halts here)... tried googling those, all I get is some problems with a version from svn back in 2006 ...17:07
Koffaalso some talk about nvidia-glx-legacy, but doesn't apply here17:07
rhpot1991_laptopKoffa: is your cpu usage maxing out or something?17:37
Koffanope17:39
TehSnarfIs nuvexport already built in to mythtranscode in .21?17:39
Koffahaven't looked at top/uptime at the time of timeouts, but it's totally responsive17:40
rhpot1991_laptopTehSnarf: I don't believe so17:40
rhpot1991_laptopKoffa: backend and frontend on the same box?17:40
TehSnarfalright, so I'm in the clear with setting up my own jobs then... I'm just making sure that I'm not being redudant17:40
rhpot1991_laptopand you are using the correct video drivers?17:40
rhpot1991_laptopTehSnarf: it appears to be in apt in hardy17:41
TehSnarfyeah, I installed it with apt in 7.10, I just wasn't sure it was something built in to myth already... like I didn't want myth to do it, then me to come in on top of that and manually do it17:42
Koffarhpot1991_laptop: yes... gutsy with mythtv-stuff from backports17:42
rhpot1991_laptopKoffa: you are using nvidia or fglrx drivers though, and not a generic set?17:43
Koffa'Installation of the fglrx-kernel-src source failed.' when I tried module-assistant... some naming-error somewhere17:50
Koffasince it seems to be in -source, not -src :)17:51
rhpot1991_laptoprestricted manager17:51
rhpot1991_laptoprestricted driver manager17:51
Koffashows NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (latest cards) as 'In use'17:54
rhpot1991_laptopwhy are you trying to install fglrx on your nvidia card then?17:55
javatexanhey...ubuntu wont install at 800x600 either, is that a bug, or a setting that I am missing.  The dialogs for installation go off the screen and I can't get to them.17:55
Koffaalso (unrelated?) channel change takes some 3-4 seconds since the upgrade... used to be 1-217:55
Koffarhpot1991_laptop: I was thinking about testing it with another card too since some forum posts suggested it might be nvidia-specific problem...17:57
rhpot1991_laptopah ok17:57
rhpot1991_laptopmight want to check your xorg.conf and make sure that its using the nvidia drivers and you didn't throw ati stuff in there in the process of that17:58
Koffait says nvidia... glxinfo says direct rendering: yes and all seems peachy except for mythtv :)18:01
Koffathe commercials have always lost the last second or so (sound is lost, image flickers once or twice), but it has never hanged before 0.2118:07
TehSnarfAnyone have a link or something that I can read on how to convert from .21 to .22 svn?18:49
rhpot1991_laptop.22 will be in the weelky trunk builds for hardy at some point18:52
rhpot1991_laptopwhy do you want to do that though?18:52
tgm4883_laptopTehSnarf, do you run 8.10?19:16
=== TRiSS is now known as TRRiSS
iuliusDoes anyone know whether mythbuntu runs the mythfilldatabase periodically by default? I didn't see it in the cron* directories.19:38
iuliusThe installation is a frontend and backend19:38
Koffawonder what's the difference between 0.21.0-0ubuntu2~gutsy1 and 0.21.0-0ubuntu3 :)19:48
Koffashould I go to hardy already...19:49
Koffaiulius: I didn't find it anywhere, added it myself19:49
rhpot1991_laptop!pastebin19:50
ubotupastebin is a service to post multiple-lined texts so you don't flood the channel. The Ubuntu pastebin is at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org (make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic)19:50
rhpot1991_laptopKoffa: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/59957/19:50
rhpot1991_laptopit runs it daily, but I can't find where for the life of me19:51
rhpot1991_laptopmythfilldatabase that is19:51
Koffarhpot1991_laptop: thx19:51
rhpot1991_laptopKoffa: np19:53
Koffadunno if that helps though :)19:53
iuliusCool, thanks19:53
rhpot1991_laptopKoffa: depends on what you are looking to do with the system I guess19:54
rhpot1991_laptopfor instance weekly fixes build will be hardy only19:54
rhpot1991_laptopthe same with the 0.22 trunk whenever that happens19:55
Koffawell I'm looking to get livetv working again (:19:55
rhpot1991_laptophave you searched the forums and mythtv users mailing list?19:57
TehSnarfFor some reason my covers for videos in mythweb aren't showing up... the link is correct, anywhere else I should check?19:58
rhpot1991_laptopcheck the perms on the directory19:58
rhpot1991_laptopare they actually being created and so on19:59
rhpot1991_laptopI think your frontend user runs that script, not mythtv19:59
TehSnarfhrmm19:59
TehSnarfit's pointed to /media/Storage/videos/covers, which is an NTFS drive20:00
Koffarhpot1991_laptop: only found some old postings from '06 and newer ones regarding legacy nvidia-drivers20:00
TehSnarfshould it be video_cover or video_covers?20:04
rhpot1991_laptopTehSnarf: go check in the setup menu, you can define it there20:05
TehSnarfgroovy, thansk20:06
rhpot1991_laptopto check that it works go into that dir with the user who runs your frontend and try to make a file20:06
Koffadpkg-reconfigure killed backend while recording <320:12
Koffa*nuke*20:12
rhpot1991_laptopreconfiguring what?20:13
Koffaall myth stuff, one forum posting suggested even desperate measures like that :)20:14
rhpot1991_laptopwell, nothing real bad can come from that, but of course it is going to reconfigure your backend20:14
Koffanot real bad?-D20:18
TehSnarfStrange...20:20
TehSnarfwonder why it's not taking...20:20
rhpot1991_laptopmight lose some settings and all, what you are doing is reconfiguring them from scratch20:21
rhpot1991_laptopI think your mysql stuff remains20:21
Koffawell killing the backend without asking was quite bda20:21
Koffabad20:21
rhpot1991_laptopTehSnarf: did you try making a file by hand, and double check that the directories match?20:21
TehSnarfyep20:21
TehSnarfeven sudo -u mythtv touch /media/Storage/videos/covers/test20:21
TehSnarfworked fine20:21
rhpot1991_laptopKoffa: not really, reconfiguring isn't exactly an every day task20:21
rhpot1991_laptopTehSnarf: check /var/log/mythtv/mythtvfrontend.log20:22
rhpot1991_laptopmine was throwing errors in there when it wasn't working20:22
KillerKiwi2005superm1: thats for the help yesterday20:27
TehSnarfhmm20:34
TehSnarflooks like it's a mythweb issue20:34
rhpot1991_laptopTehSnarf: check the symlink for mythweb, make sure it points to your directory20:35
rhpot1991_laptop /var/www/mythweb/data/covers IIRC20:35
TehSnarflrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 2008-03-17 16:36 video -> /var/lib/mythtv/videos/20:39
TehSnarflrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 2008-03-17 16:37 video_covers -> /media/Storage/videos/covers/20:39
TehSnarfI think it just needs a hug20:41
rhpot1991_laptopis that working?20:42
TehSnarfnope, mythweb still popping up with "missing cover"20:42
TehSnarfI'm not too worried about it right now, though20:42
rhpot1991_laptopTehSnarf: try to cd with the symlink and see if it works20:44
TehSnarfyep20:44
TehSnarfThere's probably something I'm missing that's really obvious20:45
rhpot1991_laptopI can think of a few shots in the dark20:45
rhpot1991_laptopclear out your browser cache, restart apache, verify the files are readable by mythweb20:46
rhpot1991_laptopI think wwwdata will try to access them20:46
TehSnarfyeah, www-data20:46
TehSnarfprobably something to do with mythvideo scripts somewhere not firing like they should20:47
TehSnarfbecause if I put in the IMDB info and hit the IMDB to grab everything automagically, it doesn't seem to do anything20:47
rhpot1991_laptopare you grabbing them via mythweb?20:48
rhpot1991_laptopor with your frontend?20:48
TehSnarfattempting mythweb20:48
TehSnarffrontend doesn't seem too pleased either20:48
NikasYo! What's wrong when "Remote" in MythWeb tells me "XXXXX is not responding."?20:48
TehSnarfweird... frontend won't allow me to put in the IMDB#20:56
rhpot1991_laptopiulius: I might be wrong about that mythfilldatabase, you might need to activate it in your setup menu, been a while since I did a new install :)20:59
iuliusThanks, I'll take a look21:01
jepeltwgood afternoon all, I just apt-get dist-upgraded MythBuntu and got updated to 0.21, but the backend now refuses to start, pausing for a bit then saying "Illegal instruction (core dumped)"21:05
Sartschenthi21:43
Sartschentmy mythbuntu crashes when I try to use Vesa drivers. :(21:44
Sartschentmythbuntu ver 7.10 and gpu is a old ati rage 12821:46
asmythewill mythweb stream my videos to a remote location?21:49
rhpot1991recordings yes, videos no21:50
asmytherecordings "what I record off television"21:51
asmythetranscode failed with status:24721:56
pdragonmy LiveTV just stopped working. was working fine yesterday and haven't done anything different. getting this in the frontend log22:22
pdragonhttp://pastebin.com/dd6a67c322:23
pdragongives a different missing file name every time i try. any ideas?22:24
foxbuntupdragon, have you tried restarting the BE?22:33
pdragonrestarting now22:38
pdragonnope. same thing22:41
directhexis this a remote frontend?22:42
pdragonno, front and back on same system22:42
pdragonhaven't run any remote frontends for quite a while22:42
pdragonnot since i've upgraded to .2122:42
directhexanything shown in the backend log when you switch to livetv?22:42
Nikascheck the permissions for you recordings-folder22:44
pdragonhttp://pastebin.com/d700336e322:44
pdragoni turned off the glx module in xorg.conf last week to try and fix another LiveTV problem I'd been having. Hasn't been working perfectly, but it was working22:45
pdragonhttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=72542822:45
directhexpdragon, so ivtv isn't working22:45
pdragonposted that but got no responses22:45
directhexwhich would explain the lack of recording files to watch22:46
pdragonany idea why22:51
lime4x4any ideas why  avi file will play perfect on my pc running hardy but when transfered to my mthtv box the audio is off?22:53
foxbuntulime4x4, could be a number of issues, the player, the file endocing, the bit rate of the encoding, the deinterlacer module you are using if any, the video display method (OpenGL, XvMC)...22:57
pdragonok. rebooting fixed it. this is the second time since upgrading that I've had to reboot because LiveTV keeps causing failures23:01
lime4x4i tried totem, vlc, myplayer and xine on hardy and they all play the file just fine. Anyone know what the default player in mythtv is for avi?23:01
pdragonmplayer i believe23:02
pdragonUtilities Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Videos Settings -> Player Settings23:03
pdragonThere's also a File Types section where you can give a specific command. Default for AVI is your default mediaplayer defined in Player Settings23:03
lime4x4ok thanks i'll have to look into that some more then23:04
pdragontry just playing the file from the command line with mplayer and see what output it gives23:04
lime4x4ok23:05
pdragonif you have a windows machine, there's a program called GSpot I like to use. Tells all video/audio codecs that a file uses23:05
lime4x4no windows here...lol23:05
lime4x4i'm sure thou there is a linux app out there23:07
pdragonyeah, mplayer may even be able to do it23:08
pdragoni just haven't looked into it much since i found GSpot and have a windows machine for my gamer to use it on :)23:08
pdragon*sigh* was hoping i wouldn't have to reload my machine when 8.04 came out. really looking that way now, though23:15
pdragonLiveTV still isn't working right when things start and stop recording in the background23:15
AlowishusI have a Feisty system running 0.20.2 from the official updates... are things going to go well if I just wholesale dist-upgrade to Gutsy and let it pull in 0.21 in the process?23:40
Alowishusthis is a single machine, backend + frontend23:40
pdragonno telling really. i did an upgrade to .21 in gutsy and having livetv issues now23:45
Alowishusok so there may just be latent 0.21 issues anyhow then23:45
AlowishusI'm just trying to figure out how well supported Feisty -> Gutsy is, or whether it'd be better to just backup MySQL and my recordings and install from a fresh Mythbuntu CD23:49
directhexpdragon, ivtv dying should not be related to the 0.21 change - it's a kernel issue23:49
directhexAlowishus, feisty -> gutsy ought to work. usual recommendations apply - take backups if you care, etc23:49
Alowishusdirecthex: hehe ok... well I'll take the backups and try the dist-upgrade... if it all goes to crap, then I can still do the fresh install :)23:50
