No clue if that is a kdm or X or another problem. It happens on my machine(with fglrx) and on a friend's machine with intel graphics. [17:07] Can anyone point me to some bug description(if tracked, found none myself), or tell me wich logfiles are important in that case? [17:09] Also, no clue what to make of the channel topic, complains about the line "exec >&3" [17:17] Exilant: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging [18:45] Hi all. [18:45] I'm looking in to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/displayconfig-gtk/+bug/147721 [18:45] Launchpad bug 147721 in displayconfig-gtk "displayconfig-gtk crashed with IndexError in _syncXorgConfig()" [Medium,Confirmed] [18:48] it seems that guidance-backends is assuming that it will get at least one usable resolution from the current running screen or the monitor (I haven't followed the logic to find which it is looking at in this case). [18:49] it appears as though that is an unsafe assumption, is that correct? [19:00] right, especially with current xorg config [19:00] james_w: btw note that we're disabling displayconfig-gtk from the menu for Hardy, in preference for the new xrandr gui [19:01] tjaalton: btw I notice that intel_reg_dumper is not being built since 2.2.1-1ubuntu2 due to libpciaccess being in universe, however even if I install it, I still cannot get it to build - does this also require a newer xserver or something? [19:08] bryce: no, e [19:08] uh [19:09] bryce: i don't recall what I did in order to disable it, but it also needed a newer libpciaccess [19:11] tjaalton: ahh [19:11] tjaalton: I notice the entry in rules was commented out; don't know if there were additional changes to disable it. [19:12] probably not [19:14] tjaalton: are we holding back on uploading a newer libpciaccess because of beta freeze, or were there additional reasons against it? [19:15] I filed a freeze exception for it, but I backed off since it would have needed promotion to main [19:16] hmm, since it's in universe, could would upgrade it to the newer one regardless of the freeze? [19:17] I could take care of doing that, if there aren't any other reasons to hold it back [19:17] it's not a huge deal, but jesse was asking about it yesterday [19:17] nope, paperwork was needed so I didn't think it was that important [19:19] okies, I'll work on it a bit === asac_ is now known as asac [19:30] bryce: thanks. This bug is on the Hardy QA list, should it be dropped from there? [19:30] http://people.ubuntu.com/~ogasawara/qa-hardy-list-archive/sort-by-package/platform-buglist.html if you don't know what I refer to [19:31] * bryce looks [19:34] james_w: the "displayconfig-gtk loads with all widgets empty" is a known issue due to the xorg.conf hotplug stuff that went in for Hardy, and is the primary reason why we've dropped displayconfig-gtk from the menus in favor of the new xrandr gui [19:35] james_w: so yes, this can be closed. Do you want me to do it, or would you like to? [19:35] bryce: I'm happy to do it, but I think that you will be able to explain the reason better than I. [19:36] james_w: sure no prob [19:36] thanks. [20:50] james_w: done (I may have gone overboard with the details... but hopefully it gives the complete story) [20:51] thanks. [20:57] New bug: #132199 in ubuntu "[needs-packaging] volume knob on dell keyboard (knob) (dup-of: 139582)" [Wishlist,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/132199 [21:05] tjaalton: I reopened your existing sync request for libpciaccess. hope that's ok. [21:06] bryce: I don't mind ;) [21:24] bryce: that's an impressive level of detail [21:25] I have a couple of questions though. [21:25] The bug that these users were experiencing were a consequence of the stuff that displayconfig-gtk could not handle? [21:26] correct [21:26] and does the xrandr gui still use guidance-backends? Does anything? [21:26] I think that's where the bug really is. [21:26] xrandr gui does not use guidance-backends [21:26] I believe kde has a tool which still uses guidance backends [21:26] also like I pointed out, displayconfig-gtk is still used for bulletproof-x mode, so guidance-backends is still required. [21:26] hey bryce [21:27] thanks, I'll ask the kubuntu team about it. [21:27] bryce: I've uploaded your gnome-control-center changes, you might want to ask slangasek for a freeze exception but that's likely late for beta now [21:27] and I'll open a guidance-backends task on the bug so that it shows up there. [21:28] hi seb128 [21:28] seb128: yeah sounds like it's late for beta but it should be ok as long as it goes in right after beta [21:28] right [21:56] New bug: #203505 in linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (restricted) "[hardy] screen stays black when using fglrx driver" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/203505 [23:00] New bug: #203748 in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (main) "too many interrupts from synaptics touchpad" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/203748
