[02:57] Now that is sure to get some attention [03:02] awwww... are you starving for attention? === subsume_ is now known as subsume [08:17] hello [08:18] where can i download the edubuntu hardy desktop CD? [08:18] edubuntu is an addon cd for ubuntu with hardy [08:18] no way! [08:18] no longer a full distro?? [08:19] yeah. [08:39] hi, I'm migrating an office to LTSP / Gutsy but having a bit of problem, could someone please help. The LTSP server is setup, I tried connecting from my laptop and it's ok. But when it's on my friend's office, none of their computer will show the GUI. The GUI seemed to be about to come up at first, but then all went back to the console. No /var/log/ldm.log, so I'm at loss. Any idea where else I can look for clues ? [08:41] harry_, can you tell us more details? [08:42] sure [08:42] let's see [08:42] stock edubuntu install really [08:42] fully updated [08:43] default settings [08:43] my laptop boots to it straight away [08:43] but these computer, they're finding the DHCP ok [08:43] booting process alright [08:43] then it's trying to bring up X [08:43] then suddenly it's back to text mode [08:43] showing the login prompt [08:44] what are the computers that dont work? age/hardware/etc [08:44] video card specifically [08:44] these are old computers [08:44] i810 graphics [08:44] detected just fine by X [08:44] what bothers me is I haven't been able to find X's error message [08:44] so I have no idea why X failed to came up [08:45] S3 cards [08:45] it should be /var/log/ldm.log isn't it ? [08:45] or am I wrong ? [08:46] I've had this problem before actually [08:46] i havent dealt with ltsp5, so i'm not sure where it should log to. have you asked #ltsp? tell them about your video card, and ask how to enable logging to the server [08:46] but I had some time, so I just used dapper + LTSP 4.2 [08:46] I would, but to my knowledge, LTSP5 on gutsy is 100% the product of canonical [08:46] it's rewritten from ground up [08:47] its not ubuntu specific [08:47] so I thought I'd ask about it here [08:47] oh... ok [08:47] afk. dinner time [08:47] no prob [08:47] thanks kaiser [08:47] good luck, back in ~30-60 [08:47] see you then [09:17] back [09:24] hi kaiser, welcome back. i'm discussing it now on #ltsp [09:24] basically I've got login screen [09:25] but it won't authenticate the user :) [09:25] still working on that [09:26] cool :) i'll leave you in #ltsp's capable hands, rather then split the conversation [09:28] thanks :) [09:29] gl, let me know how it goes [10:26] hi Kaiser, I ended up using startx instead of ldm [10:26] will troubleshoot ldm later [10:26] gotta go [10:26] thank you :) [10:26] later mate [10:27] well done :) [12:39] how do i install hardy add-on cd? [12:39] hello [12:40] Nergar, have you got the cd downloaded, and do you have an existing ubuntu install to add it on to? [12:41] i installed ubuntu hardy and i mounted edubuntu hardy but i can't install [12:43] Kamping_Kaiser, both ubuntu and edubuntu are beta [12:44] Nergar, i'm aware of that [12:44] when you put an edubuntu addon cd into an ubuntu hardy system it should open a few dialgue boxes - does it do that? [12:46] Kamping_Kaiser, only one: [12:47] This cd has software ready for autoexecution, do you want to execute it? [12:47] or something like that (ubuntu is in spanish) [12:49] but it fails because it can't find the autoexec software [12:49] Nergar, ok. so it does it offer to "Start addon installer"? [12:49] yes [12:49] but it fails [12:50] hm. [12:50] what cd are you using? the beta? [12:51] yes [12:51] md5 checksum is correct [12:54] hm. [13:03] Kamping_Kaiser, and for some reason neither feisty nor gutsy work on my pc [13:15] Kamping_Kaiser, sorry, my wireless card is faulty [13:16] no worries. i'm a bit distracted atm anyway [13:18] so what can i do? is there a manual way of installing this? === subsume_ is now known as subsume [14:30] can we use edubuntu as a live cd? [14:31] mez,can we use edubuntu as a live cd? === gvy_ is now known as gvy [19:02] Can anyone tell me what this sentence means? Edubuntu is now provided as an add-on to Ubuntu instead of as a separate stand-alone flavour, permitting even greater reuse of Ubuntu technologies. [19:02] probably "it's a CD2, not CD1 now -- go get Ubuntu as your install media" [19:03] heh [19:03] maybe it'd be clearer if whoever wrote that left out the marketing speech :) [19:04] * gvy . o O ( that'd not be ubuntish ) [19:05] * gvy hides [19:05] heh [19:05] * laga is cranky due to pre-easter shopping madness [19:05] so just ignore me :) [19:07] hm, easter is full month away yet... april 27 [19:07] * laga blinks [19:07] i think [19:07] i doubt that, they were having some good discounts on coloured eggs ;) [19:08] but then again it's how orthodox think it is, after jewish easter (as logically it should be)... [19:08] in states it's probably a sort of valentine's day, that is marketing event [19:08] ah, shows my ignorance. i was talking about catholic easter [19:08] or mine. :) [19:08] heh [21:51] Hi, has anyone managed to correctly install italc so that the ltsp clients can be shown/managed? Ubuntu hardy/Ltsp 5.0, it currently reports "no user logged in" for the clients... [22:07] ogra_cmpc, hey
